Ballard Bookcase

I was excited to finally get some solid wood bookcases, to replace cheaper shelves I bought when I was in school. They weren’t that much more expensive than particle board shelves you find in stores, and were finished sooner than I was quoted. The staff in the store really helpful and my new shelves look great!

I am so happy to have replaced my awful, falling apart, cheap bookshelf from Ikea with a beautiful solid one from Ballard Bookcase. The styles are limited and the wood is either pine or maple, but they are solid wood, locally made, and very attractive. I really like the media shelves for a simple storage solution – they fit DVDS, CDs, etc. perfectly (only 5 ½ inches deep) so there is no wasted space. It is definitely worth going down to the showroom to talk with them rather than just looking at what’s on the website. They are very friendly. Their shelves are great for saving money if you want to stain the pine on your own. A good alternative to cheaper furniture that will break or chip in the veneer. They will stain the pieces for you if you want, however, this will really increase the price (can be double). I had my piece stained because I don’t like raw pine and don’t have a place to work on furniture myself. Totally worth it – it is now a nice dark brown shade. I will definitely consider them for future purchases.
