I Love this truck! Great tasting food, super nice folks, and an ORIGINAL concept. My favorite so far is the Colonel Custard, but they have many many flavors both sweet and savory. Yum Yum Yum!

I can’t rave about this food truck enough. They have amazing combos that are creative, interesting, and delicious. We hit them up today after the Fremont Sunday market and were not disappointed. Tried the kpop(Kalbi, kimchi, pepper jack), mmmbacon(bacon, cheddar, green onion), and sweet potato(potato, brown sugar, walnuts). It was perfect between two people for a small lunch. The flavors are awesome and there was a good ratio of fillings to pastry. Service is super friendly and funny and it is really interesting to see how they make them.

I shared the Jiro with another friend but only didn’t like it because I don’t like red bean. The price and adorable shape of these waffles are both great!

Went on a morning jog and stopped by the Sunday market just to try this place out. My friend and I had jiro(azuki beans) and k-pop(kalbi beef, kimchi, and pepper jack). The waffles had a nice fluffy, crispy on the outside texture. The azuki bean is tasty but not that sweet. K pop was meaty with a strong scent of kimchi. My friend gobbled that one up. Overall, cheap($ 10 for 2 fishes) and tasty! Also they take card :) can’t wait to try more.

I can’t really say that I loved this taiyaki place. I ordered the jiro and service was great. The lady that took my order was super friendly. When I got the taiyaki, I could see the filling spewing out. That’s wonderful because I love having lots of filling, but the taste was a bit odd. The batter was quite salty and I don’t know if it’s to balance the sweetness of the filling, but it made the taiyaki taste weird. Maybe it would taste better with a savory filling? A shame, really, because the filling was wonderful. It wasn’t too sweet and the red beans were still whole, which was nice. Overall, I am ambivalent about this place and may not come back.

Love mmmBacon! This truck makes my heart smile. I love is how it is crispy on the outside when it’s fresh.(This also means you have to eat it quickly because it will soften in its own steam). I’ve tried the custard. Jiro, Katsu rosco, K pop, and mmmBacon. I’m on a mission to try more but its hard to think that something else can beat the bacon. mmmBacon is more than just another fad bacon food. It is two thick slices of peppered bacon — long enough that usually part of it won’t fit in the fish mold, allowing the bacon to get extra crispy. Then it is covered in a blanket of cheddar and topped with bright green scallions. All conveniently held together as taiyaki! The lightly sweetened taiyaki batter actually works really well with the cheddar and bacon, just try it! The Katsu rosco was pretty good with pretty solid portions of katsu in there. Something about the seasoning in K Pop overwhelmed the taiyaki batter and left me quite thirsty. Jiro is a solid traditional taiyaki.

I had lunch here yesterday at since their food truck was at Westlake Center. I had the mmmbacon sandwich and was impressed with the taste of the bacon they used and enjoyed the waffle it was on. I don’t usually eat this type of food, especially for lunch, but I was impressed enough to want to go back and try some of their other menu selections.

Ladies in the truck were super nice! I had the red bean one(jori?) And it was really good. My friend had the Smore and beef + kimchi(can’t remember name) ones and the Smore one was okay, didn’t taste as good as it looked like it would, all of the toppings squished down a lot when cooked. I would recommend the Jori for a sweet one. The beef +kimchi was really good if you’re looking more for savory.

BeanFish is fun food. There’s no other way to describe it. I think of it as the Japanese version of funnel cake – party food that’s not exactly good for you but ohhh so good. I’ve had the apple cinnamon and the custard waffles, and both were divine. Both fillings could be a little bit stronger in flavor – the apple a little more cinnamony and the custard with a bit stronger vanilla, but no major complaints. The waffles are excellent – chewy, delicate, fluffy waffle goodness. And the prices are also pretty sweet – usually around $ 5! Highly recommend! They’re always at the Fremont Sunday Market.

Taiyaki is a specialty food item, think pancakes stuffed with a few amazing combinations of sweet or savory items, here at BeanFish a Japanese food truck, this location is only open from 12−6pm on Saturdays, check their website for the the rest of their weekly schedule. We just happened to stumble upon this place while hitting up Daiso. I’m always looking for yummy Japanese foodie items, here they do things up very well. The menu carries the two standards, custard and azuki bean the rest of the choices border on the serious WOW factor, either on the sweet or the savory side. I opted for the two standards, shared them with Grams and the two girls, we all enjoyed them very much. Prices range from $ 4 to $ 7 dollars and the girls enjoyed them so much they went back after we did some shopping to try out the Elvis and S’more combos, again, both were made up piping hot’n fresh and again a delightful treat to enjoy while walking around the area. Staff were very friendly, I asked which were the most popular savory flavors and they engaged with cheerful banter, all the while standing over the piping hot cast iron griddle, I was sweating just watching them, I’m sure during the winter months this is s good thing, but today in 85+ weather not so much. Keep an eye out looking for them, check their website for the weekly schedule and menu, it’s well worth hunting them down. YUM-O!

My first time at Beanfish was at the ID night market and I had the Jiro. The red bean tasted overcooked and was not very good. It wasn’t worth the 15 minutes I waited for it. My second experience at Beanfish was great so I have to bump up the stars. I went to the truck when it was across from Westlake Center downtown. The woman who took my order was so nice and sweet. I ordered the Jiro again and it was cheaper than I remembered it being for some reason. Anyway, i didn’t want too long for my order and it was warm and delicious. The red bean was cooked perfectly and the actual waffle so sweet and yummmy. I really enjoyed it and I left wanting to try more! I hope to try the custard and maybe one of the savory ones soon.

Oman I spotted this truck while in ID and knew I had to stop by. I love Taiyaki! Since we had just had lunch, I opted for the sweet azuki one and boy was it good. The batter was soft, warm, even slightly chewy — perfect consistency. The red bean was just the right amount of sweetness — I hate it when it’s too sweet but this was perfect. My only gripe is that I think my particular beanfish was cooked next to a savory one because part of my batter was savory(cheesy?). Definitely not a big deal and didn’t deter me from giving this a solid four star rating. Would definitely stop by if I see it again. Golly if they had a scoop of vanilla ice cream…

I found the BeanFish food truck at the Fremont Sunday Market. I was mostly intrigued by the fish-shape for a waffle, so of course, had to try it. And like any waffle, it was flaky, sweet and good. I ordered the Colonel Custard waffle, which is a vanilla custard filling. It was the perfect snack for in-between flea-market shopping and strolling Fremont. Next time I would like to try the S’mores Waffle.

Taiyaki! What cute little filled and delightful fish. I grew up eating the red bean filled fish and have loved it ever since. When I found out that there was a food truck selling it, I knew that I would need to hunt it down to find it. They are in international district on Saturdays, but today they were there for the Taco Libre event. They normally have a good variety of flavors, but due to the event, they trimmed the menu down to four so it would be easier to make more due to high demand. They are also at the Fremont market on Sundays! My partner and I decided to try the Jiro(red bean) and the bacon fish. They come out fresh and hot, and don’t take very long to finish up. Before the guy handed us our fish, he said that we had to do the hand motions before receiving the fish. I really enjoyed this humor as he made me put my hand up and make it swim like a dolphin. Really friendly people here. Jiro — YUM. There is just something so comforting about red bean inside a soft, fluffy waffle like fish. I adore how they stuff these fish with a lot of filling, no skimping here. The fish aren’t beautifully trimmed so they have extra crispy pieces on the side which are fun to pick at and eat. The red bean filling isn’t too sweet and is just so luscious and creamy. It’s a perfect little snack/dessert. Bacon — Mm, it really makes me think of breakfast. It’s filled with cheese, bacon and chives. Because the exterior is like a waffle, it really is like a breakfast fish combo. The bacon is crisp and chewy and the cheese flavor is so prominent. The chives add this nice extra boost of flavor. If you’re lucky, some bites will land you a hunk of a piece of bacon. Really great if you are more in a breakfast mood. Each one is priced around $ 4 – 5 or so, some being more expensive than other depending on the ingredients. On regular days they have a sweet potato one that I am dying to try. They also have an apple pie one and a custard one as well. The next time I find this truck, I’ll be trying the other sweet ones!

Happened to walk past this truck at the very last minute before I was going to light rail. I had just shoved my face with a lot of salty(unhealthy) foods & the smell coming from this truck lured me in. The one that I ordered was the«Colonel Custard» — which is filled with vanilla cream. It was delicious. The waffle was so light & the custard in the middle was… the perfect touch. I honestly don’t think I chewed. They have 3 other options, one with bacon called«mmmBacon» with Tillamook cheddar cheese, triple thick cut peppered bacon & freshly chopped green onions — if I get the chance to go back, i’m going to try this one next(& most likely another colonel custard). This truck was a nice ending to the Taco Truck Showdown — a good, light dessert.

Such a tasty treat. Whenever I walk by their stand(and now their truck!) I get one or two of their delicious taiyaki, and I’ve never been disappointed. The vanilla custard is awesome. For those who are unfamiliar with this food, it’s basically like vanilla pudding in a sweet, sweet pancake that’s shaped like a fish(but not flavored like one!). My favorite is their K-Pop, which is filled with beef, kimchi, and pepperjack cheese! The beef is even organical so you can feel like a good, healthy person who is totally not eating your way through Fremont’s Sunday Fair. In Tokyo taiyaki stands are as common as hotdog stands are here, and I really missed it until BeanFish appeared. This place is like a little piece of Japan right here in Seattle.

I’m going to be the odd one out when I say this place disappointed me. I love taiyaki especially with custard. This was a favorite dessert of mine in Taiwan and Canada. I was excited when I saw this truck in the International District. When I got the fish, I noticed how small it was. I also noticed that there was so much extra dough on the side that the novelty of a cut out fish was a bit ruined for me. Why not make a clean cut? The fish seemed even smaller with so much excess dough around it. Part of the fish seemed undercooked and doughy. I got the custard, and the custard itself tasted alright but there didn’t seem like there was much of it at all. I’m used to fluffy, chewy fish with a good amount of filling, and this was a sad, sad flat fish. Wouldn’t pay the money to get it again.

I haven’t seen anywhere else here that has such an array of freshly made taiyaki! So far I’ve tried the regular(with powdered sugar), cinnamon sugar, and the bacon/cheese taiyakis and all of them were super satisfying. The owners/operators of BeanFish have done their research and seek to come up with new flavors for their customers to try. I can’t wait to stop by again! Tip: After you order, instagram and #beanfish, for a BOGO on your next trip!

Oh, my! It’s been almost a year since I reviewed BeanFish. It’s been a year filled with sweet and savory taiyaki. I’m still mesmerized by the process of pouring the batter, adding ingredients, and seeing these adorable little fish pop out. I’ve had the opportunity to taste most of the menu and love trying out new flavors. For me, food becomes boring without a few specials. In addition to the regular menu, I can always be assured that BeanFish is working on something new. The Spam was one of my favorites. A crispy crust on the outer edge surrounded by the beautiful waffle is my idea of a good time. The raspberry is my favorite sweet flavor, inspired by the famous fair scones. The raspberry caramelizes a bit making it crispy and oh-so-sweet! They just had a Kobe beef special at the Mobile Food Rodeo and I loved the soft, 7-spiced beef, and crunch of the coleslaw. Awesomeness! Customer service remains top notch. Liana, Brady, and crew work together to tell folks about taiyaki, find out a bit about their customers and keep those fish swimming off the grill!

I was lured by how good they smelled cooking and the ingredients they chose to include inside the fish-shaped waffle. The waffle was subtly sweet and the cheese/bacon/scallions inside was perfectly cooked. The bacon had a nice bite to it. Service was quick and easy! It left me satisfied and hungry to try the rest! This coming from someone that doesn’t normally prefer waffles.
