This salon is a 2-fer: you get intelligent conversation to go with a great haircut. I especially appreciate Beatrice’s wisdom about parenting teenage daughters. Always leave feeling like my head has been updated inside as well as out.

Beatrice is the BEST and I am so glad I found her(thanks ). She has given me great little tips for curly hair styling. Before Beatrice, I always asked for a blowout when I got my hair done. Now, I feel great leaving her shop curly, and haven’t worn it straight since I met her. She also does great color. And is really great and fun to talk with! :)

I am a grandmother with curly hair that has lived in 3 continents… and Beatrice is one of the ablest hairdressers at cutting curly hair that I have found. She is warm and friendly and a good listener…

Beatrice is awesome. I drove 1.5 hrs each way from Bellingham so she could cut my hair, and she did not disappoint. I have curly hair(type 3b for all of you curl nerds), and I had avoided more than a trim for about a year because I was scared to let anyone cut it. Finally, with my fro to my shoulders, I decided to go all in. Beatrice listened to what I wanted, discussed how I style my hair each day and what my expectations/commitment level was … and then she gave me a seriously awesome cut. She wasn’t afraid to cut it, and it is exactly what I wanted. She also showed me what products to use and how to style it going forward. Plus, her shop is independent, funky and in a great neighborhood. Rather than getting a cup of fancy lemongrass green tea with your crappy haircut, you’ll just get a great haircut. She knows what she’s doing.

Here I sit wondering why has it taken me so long to come review Beatrice and also, where is everyone else? I have to wait 5 weeks for my appointment so there’s got to be more than 6 women with great experiences with her. I found Beatrice by searching ‘curly hair dresser’ in Seattle on Unilocal and I made up my mind based solely on the reviews here. I don’t know a curly who isn’t terrified about getting their hair cut so the reassurance was definitely needed. I had gotten the ‘Curly Girl’ book for Christmas last year and when I called to schedule the appointment I could tell she knew her hair. I scheduled my appointment out about 6 weeks(my choice) and when it came I was SOREADY to have a dramatic change… but that takes trust and I had just met this woman. We discussed my concerns, and hopes and she told me what she thought would be best and I just threw caution to the wind and off she went snipping my curls. I emerged about 1.5 hours later THRILLED with the magic she had just done on my hair. Cute, sassy, bouncy and most importantly healthy, finally! It gets better, about 2 weeks later something weird was happening with my layers and I called to see if she could fix it. She got me in quickly(I think I came in earlier than her hours) and she fixed me up, no charge! I am continually in awe of her talent and I can’t wait for my second appointment. The only thing I can gripe about is the lead time needed for an appointment. With my work I can’t come in the middle of the day and it’s hard to leave early. But with such extraordinary talent comes compromise. Sure I’ll wait 5 weeks for an amazing, completely worth it hair cut. I’ll just remember to book my appointment for 3 months out next time =) Curlies, do yourself a favor. She’s spendy but SOCOMPLETELYWORTHIT… do it!

I once went to a fancy hair salon downtown that claimed to be an expert in cutting curly hair. I got the most ridiculous haircut I have ever gotten — from a hairdresser with straight hair. I wore my hair in a ponytail for months. Then I found Beatrice. She has curly hair and she knows what she’s doing. I won’t let anyone else touch my hair. Just be prepared to wait a few weeks before you can get an appointment.

Beatrice Basnight is a kick ass hairdresser. She is by far the best hair cut I have ever had. She specializes in curly hair, but the truth is(my hair is not curly) she knows how to cut different textures of hair. She doesn’t advertise, she doesn’t have a fancy spa, she just knows what she is doing. Yay for people who are good at what they do! She also sells great products, is a fantastic person to talk to, and she is cool and funny.

I agree with all the reviews below — Beatrice is the absolute best at cutting my curly hair. I found her via the reviews on , which I figured was about as good a place as any to find advice from fellow curlies. She has very curly hair herself, which I always think is a good sign that they’re going to understand your hair. She gets my long-ish layers just right, doesn’t cut off too much, and is the first person that can ALSO style my hair after cutting it so I don’t rush home and immediately wash and redo it. Her studio is small and well-designed, with good music playing in the background… she’s really fun and easy to talk to… has the best magazines… I can’t say enough good things!

I’ve been searching for the perfect stylist to cut my very, very curly hair for almost 20 years, and I finally found my holy grail stylist in Bea. She is a great listener, cuts my hair beautifully every time, and also provides incredible life advice while she’s doing it. I would recommend Bea to anyone and everyone.

I love when hairdressers ask how you style and care for your hair and actually listen to your reply. Beatrice is awesome with curls; she knows exactly how to cut and style them. Her little place on the Queen Anne side of the Fremont bridge(off Nickerson St) is adorable and comfy. It’s been a barber shop since the 1920’s or so and Beatrice has been there for 30 years. It takes about 2 – 3 weeks for an appointment which is a really long time but well worth the wait. It’s $ 65 for a trim she doesn’t take credit cards so bring cash or a check.

If you have curly hair, especially super curly hair, go see this woman. She’s amazing and you have to call now because she’s booked a month in advance. It’s just her in a charming little space by the Fremont bridge and she’ll spend two hours on your hair to get it right. And you can come back if it isn’t.
