Don’t get me wrong, I love the ice cream here. Give me a big ol’ scoop of whatevs, and I’m a happy camper. BUT, it’s the service that really drags this place downhill. I know it’s been said before. We went down today and both got smoothies(I got an Orange something, and he got a berry something), and yes, they are down right tasty. After we told the guy what we wanted, it took about 10 minutes for us to get both of ours. WHAT?! Ten minutes? Were they busy making the fro yo in the back or sumtin? The other thing that disturbs me is how dirty it is in here. Heaven forbid they get a cleaning rag and wipe down the tables. Crikes. 2 scoops away from a 5 star victory.

As someone who grew up in Vermont and still remembers the first scoop shops in Burlington, it pains me to see what Ben and Jerry’s has become. They used to carefully weigh out portions of the super-rich ice cream because, unlike mere mortal ice cream, Ben and Jerry’s was not meant to be consumed in ridiculously large Cold Stone Creamery-style portions. Alas, those days have long since passed. In the years that have elapsed since B&Js became a corporate holding, the product itself no longer has that uncompromising quality, and the corporate handlers seem to have decreed that the high prices will now be justified by serving increasingly large portions of increasingly less-satisfying product. For a while, we reveled in the glories of the Wally’s scoop shop in Wallingford which dished out Snoqualmie Gourmet Ice Cream, but alas, Wally’s is with us no more…

I’m totally agreeing with Phil S on this one, but I’m going one-less star. Ben and Jerry’s served up by a bored, pimple-faced teenager SO does not make me want to eat the ice cream that I apparently don’t deserve as I had to wait 5 minutes for the employee to finish counting her pennies.

I like Ben & Jerry’s ice cream just fine but given a choice, I’d rather buy the Ben & Jerry’s in the carton at a store and have a really good ice cream scoop place like at Steamers on the waterfront, reside where Ben & Jerry’s is now. The Ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop is still on the good side but my experience every time I’ve been at the ballard one is their staff seem devoid of basic customer service skills, e.g., you wait while they talk to their friends on the company phone and if you set off an M-80 firecracker or something, you«might» actually get their attention. Now, I don’t expect a teenager to be excited about working at an ice cream shop and if they are, they probably get beat up a lot at school but it has got to be better than holding car washes for the high school. In any case, I expect them to be attentive to me as their customer standing in line wanting some friggin ice cream. Especially when I’m the only person in line.
