Bergman’s Lock & Key

Great INDEPENDENT locksmiths. they’ll make your key (rare or common), fix your lock, help with lockouts and even find your phone and return it to you (yes, they did that for me!). Too bad the fool developers and our inept-​on-​matters-​of-​Real-​Estate city council are working to redevelop their space and might force them out. NO!!! Fight the power and do like I do, choose Bergman’s!

Only needed a couple of keys duplicated, but was very happy with the friendly staff, quick service, and great price — Thanks Bergman’s!

Decent service, poor reasoning for not selling an item. They were probably doing it to save themselves from whatever. Just going to replace the lock and take our
business somewhere elsewhere.

I locked myself out of my house and called Bergman’s. Not only was the gentleman that came out on site Andrew very polite and professional he went above and beyond to try to help me get into my home. Unfortunately my landlord has a super high security door so it was not able to be picked. I was offered an alternate solution but it would have cause a need for a replacement of the customer lock. I opted to wait till my landlord could come out on site.
Although I was not able to get in at the time, Andrew was very courteous and let me use his cell phone to make several calls for an alternate place to wait. Hopefully I do not lock myself out again but if I do I will be calling Bergams for sure. The customer service alone is worth it.

I am a property manager and always have Bergman’s take care of any lock related issues. The people at Bergman’s are personable, reliable, and do great and honest work. They are absolutely amazing, I have never been so consistently impressed by a business.

We weren’t in an emergency situation but wanted to get our place rekeyed. From the time I made the call to the time I had keys in my hand was 90 minutes.
The customer service on the phone was very helpful. He explained what was going to happen and what I needed to know. The person who came out was friendly and knew his stuff. He was done in under 10 minutes.
Perfection! Wished I had made the call months ago.

The service here was excellent. Immediately upon entering I was greeted with a smile by a guy named Matt who immediately stopped what he was doing to say hello and offer his assistance. I was having a lock rekeyed and he made time and quickly rekeyed my lock in minutes. It was not only extremely fast but super friendly. I will definitely come back here again when I have other locksmith needs.

This place is amazing! Twice this year my car door key has snapped off in the middle leaving half stuck in the lock and me with a broken key. (Yes, I have an ancient and decrepit car, but that is another story.) Both times I have come to Bergman’s without an appointment and found quick and friendly help to get the key out and to make replacements of the key. The two different locksmiths who have helped me have been unfailingly helpful and friendly. Seemed knowledgeable about other issues too (I have a tendency to eavesdrop when waiting.) And, it doesn’t cost a fortune. Incredibly reasonable service fee and charge for making extra keys. I am so glad they are in the neighborhood. I recommend them without reservation.

They are across the street from my apartment building so it appeared to be the most convenient option for me. But I thought they looked sketch. I was putting off getting a spare key copied for literally months. Then I saw the door propped open on a sunny day and figured why not, I expected I would be without a key for a few hours. I needed approval from my building manager and the guy not only called him right there on the spot, he even knew who to call. They were so quick and in less than 5 minutes and for under $ 5 I had a new key copied. winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Wow, didn’t think I could be so happy with a (quick) trip to the locksmith, but I am. We came in with two keys, one of which the employee didn’t know that they could copy, so, he told us so (and suggested where to go to get it made), and copied the other key for free! Great service and crazy fast, we’ll be back!

Very quick and cheap charged me less than they quoted me if I ever need another key made I’ll defiantly go back to these guys.

I haven’t needed their locksmith services yet, but I have just about all the extra keys I have needed made here, and everyone has always made me feel welcome. Thanks!

Super impressed. They were able to make a factory standard copy of my broken car key. Service was quick, friendly, and the price was reasonable.

I had the original keys for my Scion ST but they were falling apart and I knew I’d better get replacements sooner than later. I went to the Toyota/​Scion dealer who wanted $ 300 for EACH key (and I wanted to replace both, $ 600!) even though I had the original keys with transponder chip. Finding a online DIY tutorial, I ordered 2 keys ($ 4.95 each) from DX Deal Extreme in china…
(took about two weeks for the uncut keys to arrive)
I transferred the immobilizer chip and the remote module from my old keys to the new ones, then had Bergman’s cut the keys for me. Cutting the key took just a few minutes. They cut the first one and let me go out and test it before cutting the second. They were really personable and did a great job. I haven’t tested my second key but the 1^st one cut works perfectly!

This place rocks. I’ve visited their storefront two times to have keys made and they’re always efficient, friendly (gave my dog a treat too), and professional.
I’ve also worked with them twice at my building, once getting new locks installed on my condo unit door (again, professional, friendly, and super efficient), and second, over the 2012 Christmas holiday.
This second visit is one that I will always remember, because it’s the epitome of customer service/​satisfaction. The main door lock on our condo had a key broken off in it. I called on Christmas day and left a message asking for service on the door THE NEXT DAY so we could avoid the extra cost of a holiday service call.
Later that same HOLIDAY day, I got a call from Bergman’s (Lonnie I think it was?) saying that he was in the neighborhood anyway and that he went ahead and fixed the lock at regular rates… AND did complimentary maintenance on two other building key locks while he was here.
Our condo building has done business with Bergman’s for years, and the way they do business is what keeps us all incredibly happy customers. Thank YOU, everyone at Bergman’s — you folks do great work, and we really appreciate you.

It was my first week in Capitol Hill/​First Hill when I realized that I locked myself out of my new place. I had never dealt with another locksmith outside of Ballard or Lake City, but Bergman’s was the first place I got in touch with and I’m glad I did. The guys who work here were really nice and didn’t make me feel dumb for leaving my keys in the house. Over the years, I’ve gone to them for making copies of my keys and even though I’m no longer living on the Hill, I still go out of my way to keys copied from them or I’ll recommend Bergman’s to any of my friends who’ve moved out in that neighborhood. Highly recommended!

Amazingly helpful, friendly people that ended up saving the day for me.
I’d lost my car keys and first went to Broadway locksmith up the street (as I heard they were the best) to get a new key made from the manufacturer key code for my car. I wasn’t impressed with Broadway’s customer service (the only full sentences I really got out of the guy were the reasons the key was probably not going to work and couldn’t be guaranteed). Lo and behold, the key did not work.
I thought I’d give one more locksmith a go before getting all of the lock cylinders in my car replaced. I came into Bergman’s, and told the guy there my situation. He was friendly, listened to my whole story, and I could tell was really trying to help me figure it out. When he saw the key was labeled «Broadway,» he said the following about their competitor: «These guys do great keys. I’d be surprised if they didn’t get it right.» But, he agreed it was worth a shot before doing the expensive lock replacement.
Well, the key I had made at Bergman’s *DID* work! Perfectly!
I’m just as happy about finally getting my car situation resolved cheaply as I am about how friendly and helpful they were at Bergman’s. I know where I’ll be going back to get duplicates.

I’ve been doing business with Bergman’s for years, they’re the best in town.
You know, making a copy of a key isn’t rocket science. The machine does the work. If you’re getting a «bad copy» it’s probably because you’re trying to copy a copy. Imagine it like XEROXing; each time you copy the quality degrades until finally you can’t read it. Only with locks, the fine print is ¹⁄₁₀₀₀^th of an inch. Bad copies are unavoidable, but Bergman’s does the best anyone can. Dylan’s review reflects this reality.

Gabriel responded to my panicked «the door knob fell out inside of the house and I’m standing OUTSIDE OF MY PLACE WTF do I do!» call v. quickly. Not only did he let us back in w/​in about 5 mins, but also repaired the knob so this would never happen again.
That’s pretty frickin awesome service. On a Friday nite, no less.
