A little higher in price than the place across the road, but they have a better stock of domestics and s4s for those of us without planers/​jointers. They have a nice selection of wood on the floor and one can spend hours browsing.
I’ve never had a problem getting service, but I have generally asked for help when I arrive. They are very helpful and knowledgeable about wood and building materials/​methods in general.

I made a special trip out of my way to go to this lumberyard because of the other reviews. I walked in to the office where there were between 12 and 15 people behind the counter. I stood at the counter and no one said a word to me. Not «Can I help you?» or «Be right with you» or «It’ll be just a minute». Nothing.
4 of them walked out from behind the counter and walked past me without a word.
One by one, 5 people behind the counter looked at me, then walked away. Still, not a single word. Not a ‘Be right there” or anything.
I turned and walked to the door. Still not a word.
I went out to the lumber warehouse and looked around a bit. Two guys out there saw me and turned and went the other way.
I may have only been planning to spend around $ 3000.00, but I guess they are doing so well that they don’t need my business.
You can’t treat me like that and expect to get my money, too.

Great place to find amazing pieces of lumber. Im still dreaming of the reclaimed wood sections that would make a great table top. Fun place.

Compton is great if you know a little more than the average DIYer. I wish more people on the south end would go here rather than the usual alternatives. Their quality and price are incredibly better than then the box stores. They almost always have the lumber I needed for construction work. If they didn’t they would have it on a delivery truck to the yard within two days. This business as usual if you are a contractor but if you are a DIYer you should plan ahead and not just shop on the weekends.

A real Lumber store!
A bit off the beaten path, buried in the warehouses of SoDo off 1st Ave (look for their sign), Compton lumber has great pricing on trim and framing lumber. They were also the only local place I could find that could get me ½×5 MDF trim… the Dunn Lumber sales guy said they couldn’t get it, but Compton had it in next day. Great VG fir and other hardwood too. They often have deals on various kinds of plywood etc., check their website or call them.
I’ve found their sales staff very friendly and helpful on the phone and in person, and I’ve never had to wait that long for service.

So I have a mid-​size home project going where I need a few hundred feet of lumber. I priced Lowes, Home Depot and Cross Cuts and using Compton saved me 13% on a pretty good sized order. Their quality and quantity of lumber was also much better than the others eg; no knotty, warped boards.
I got friendly, knowledgeable help from the salesman and they have a high quality selection of hardware in the front of the store area where I picked up the screws I needed.
Although I didn’t need it this time, they have an impressive selection of not just standard lumber, but also exotic hardwoods IN STOCK in their massive warehouse.

Comptom Lumber gives me better service than a luxury 5 star hotel. I don’t have any experience with woodworking, however, recently I decided to finish an old shoe cabinet. I needed to find a thin plywood to replace the cheap cardboard board on the original furniture, and the staff there were very helpful. They walked me to the warehouse, showed me all the different options and cut the board to my specification and loaded it into the car for me. WOW! I highly recommend this place, it is not just for professional wood workers.

Compton Lumber is amazing… flat out. I am your typical «weekend warrior» type of home owner who knows a little here and there about home improvement. My projects have had me turn to Compton several times because of their massive selection, great prices, excellent customer service, and awesome shop full of machines.
They had the best price on interior doors for me and even had them painted from a reliable second party for less than I could find anywhere else. They had cheap maple in tons of sizes. Their warehouse is insane… full of all sorts of woods (including rare exotic woods) in all sorts of sizes.
The crew down there are super helpful and don’t treat you like an idiot when you don’t know the terminology. Once I was in a pinch and needed some straight cuts to finish up a job and Compton cut them for free. They simply asked if I bought the wood there. I plan on giving Compton my business for hardwood from here on out.
Trust me.
