Crypticon Seattle

I’ve been doing Crypticon for about 5 years now. They upgraded venues from an Everett hotel to the Hilton across from the airport.
The con is a horror fan’s dream with well-​known and well-​regarded horror stars, directors, and effects artists. I’m a particular fan of horror makeup and this con features a lot of classes with local and national artists.
Outside of the vendor room (with about 50 vendors, plus an artist and author alley) there is so much to do. Panels, contests, the fore mentioned classes and demos, parties, a «prom» of the dead.
I can’t wait to go this year!

My wife and I went on Saturday to Crypticon. There is not enough to see over a three day period and it is overpriced. We paid $ 90.00 for two one day tickets. It’s really worth maybe $ 25.00 for one ticket. Walking the floor there really was not much to see in regards to vendors. The only thing that saved it was the panels and the haunted house.
The location is not very good. It is across the street from Sea Tac Airport. There is only a Denny’s that is walking distance for food. It would be nice if the convention was closer to Seattle.
While the panels were good there was sound issues. The walls in the panel rooms are sliding dividers. The sliding dividers are not made to block loud noise. If the panelist was soft spoken and the panel next door was loud I could not hear what the panelist was saying.
As a big horror fan I was disappointed with Crypticon. I would only attend again if there were more to see and it was closer to Seattle.

I’ve been to each Crypticon, starting at Red Lion, then Seattle Center, Everett, and finally settled at the Hilton in Seatac. I’m both a vendor and a sponsor every year.
First and foremost — Steven and his review will be answered by me. I won’t lie, I found it a tad offensive knowing how much work goes into the show and not just by me.
I can assure you there were plenty of makeup and special effects happening. In fact, there’s a HUGE contest every year with big prizes for the winners. I can say this matter of fact because it happens 15 feet from my booth. If he didn’t find any, it was because he only spent 5 minutes walking around (and it sounds from his description that he never made it into the main room very far. The booth that was selling the patches was the first one through the door, they also had tshirts, hoody’s, jackets, posters, and much more, and the «random sculptures» was a next to that one. And both booths did quite well for the weekend in terms of sales). There were maybe another 70 vendors with an assortment of items for sale, or in my case items for giving away as a sampling event. I’d also love to know where the $ 45 figure came from… if you look, the day tickets are $ 30.00. I wonder what he’s been smoking.
Crypticon Seattle has had everyone from «The Smoking Man», the original Leatherface, The Original Michael Myers, The Original Jason (and most of the various people that played Leatherface, Michael Myers, and Jason in subsequent movies), Elvira, Pinhead, Roddy Piper, Aaron Smolinski, Kane Hodder, Doug Jones, Camden Toy, Josh Stewart, Nicholas Brendon and so many more… the vendors are a small tight knit bunch that sees each other every year, and we actually try to help and look out for one another, and it makes it a very family type of feel. The staff of the event, are just as much part of the family, and I am proud to be among them all. Crypticon Seattle has grown from a small’ish con, to a medium size con, and it seems to gain more momentum and become more fun each year. If you like or love horror, and you haven’t joined us, quite simply you’re missing one of the best experiences you could have.

This was the absolute worst waste of money. I was charged $ 45 dollars to enter and walk around a small ballroom filled with vendors that were selling fabric patches for your clothing and random sculptures. There was NO makeup or Special FX booths or demos. It took all of about 5 min to walk the room and realize that I had just paid $ 45 bucks for nothing. Super bummed. I thought for sure Seattle would have more to offer.
Do not go.
