okay. i can’t describe anyone working here as having a «big heart». they have assaulted a number of folks in the area for arguing their prices with a large stick, causing the owner to go to jail several times. the owners are pretty racist too, but that’s an entirely different story. i work two doors down and have seen them overcharge people many, many times who they deem as «too crazy» to call them out for charging $ 5 for a noodle bowl. i’ve called them out before when they’re doing this, and sheepishly lower the price only because i said something about it. sometimes, i have to go here because it’s unfortunately the only place that’s open after 4pm in pioneer square. they charge 70 cents to use a debit card and do the same with EBT which is totally illegal. they’re taxing lotto tickets, and you can’t buy cigarettes for under $ 10, which is hugely expensive, even for downtown seattle. they’re ripping off their customers, they’re ripping off homeless people even more, and consistently taking advantage of people who have trouble voicing the fact their being taken advantage of. essentially, the only way this store is able to function is because they’re taking advantage of already vulnerable people. i’m thinking their prices are so high because they don’t sell alcohol. it’s easy enough to walk 2 blocks to saveway and buy beer, so they’re not really«helping the problem» of public drinking in pioneer square. giving these people money is a joke. i’ve basically told all my clients to go to the new 7 – 11 on 1st and Cherry so they will be charged the advertised price and not get their EBT cards drained within days of getting them refilled. also, several people have gotten sick off their hot food which sits around all day and is of deeply questionable quality. the inside is filthy, worse than any other place on the block, including shelters, drop in centers, and other places frequented by homeless folks which are generally considered«filthy». the only reason this store exists is to earn as much money as possible off of already economically disadvantaged people, being located next door to the DESC shelter, the Morrison and the Frye, and City Hall Park. however, if you’re just a «normal» person, they’ll butter you up and hope you don’t notice what’s really going on. really, truly disgusting business practices.
