This chicken place has NOT closed, as Unilocal reports. It’s just called«Heaven Sent Chicken» now. Chicken is still delicious, especially the Spicy ! ;-D Still run by Ezell.

This chicken was good, and I will go back because it’s better than the other fried chicken I can get in the area. The chicken had good flavor and I love the potatoes and gravy and the bread. I had a few issues when I went there, though. I was there at 8:35 and they wouldn’t make fried okra for me because it was after 8:30. ?? They close at 9. So why have something on the menu if you can’t make it for me? I would have waited if you wanted to make it fresh. Second, the chicken was sitting under lights and it was a little dry. Again, I know you are about to close, but I would wait for fresh chicken if you choose to cook less toward the end of the night and need to make it fresh. Also, if you advertise yourself as a soul food restaurant, I think you should have mac and cheese. There were lots of good points too, though. The employees were nice and they had shirts on that said«God is good all the time» super big across their chests. I’m not religious but I do like to see restaurants have their own flavor rather than just be a generic chain. The food was tasty and you can tell they use good chicken. It’s a little higher priced than some but I do like it enough to pay the higher price. Just hope next time I get juicier chicken and I can get myself some okra!

Heaven Sent Fried Chicken or the shop formerly known as Ezell’s Fried Chicken. When you drive by, there are no signs indicating that this is Heaven Sent Fried Chicken or signage that shows this formerly was Ezell’s. The open sign also leaves it ambiguous because it looks like a Quizno’s Open sign. Nothing is really different — the chicken is still delicious and juicy and Oprah’s picture is still mounted to the wall.
For an 8 piece + 4 roll dinner, at $ 15, that serves 4 – 5, it works out to only $ 4 per person. The only downside is that service here is lacking and quite slow. For our 8 piece meal and half pound of fried gizzards($ 3.65 /half pound and one bread roll), we ordered and paid then waited. With no line, we felt that this should be quick run-in, run-out errand, but after waiting 15 minutes since ordering, we finally see them dredge the gizzards. At the 25 minute mark, we get our food. At no point while we were waiting, did they tell us «it will be out soon,» «sorry for the wait,» or any eye contact was made. In the future, it would be nice if they gave us a warning when we ordered the gizzards that it would take awhile because it is a less popular item on the menu or a quick explanation that it would require more prep time. — Note: Fried Gizzards are crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside — like a more chewy, cartilage-filled version of calamari.

I Love Ezell’s! I don’t usually crave«Fried Chicken» and prefer«Asian Style» over«American» but find myself craving«Ezell’s» from time to time! I like both their regular and spicy style but would recommend the«regular», with the homemade rolls of course. They are warm, soft and buttery! Please opt on the«strips»! You want chicken, get the original! If you’re adventurous like me, I also recommend you try their Gizzards and Liver. It was chewy on the inside with a cartilage like texture and Ezell’s wonderful fried batter on the outside. The Fried Okra was also another one of my favorites. Keep in mind, if you’ve never tried Okra before, it is a very slimy vegetable. Their Baked Beans and Cole Slaw are«ok» but did not favor the Mashed Potatoes and Gravy. Service is Fast and Very Friendly! Overall, Original Style with a Side of their Homemade Rolls are a must. …then I’d bet you’ll be back for more! ;)

3.5 What I like about Ezell’s is that you can go in and just buy one piece of fried chicken. No sides, no meals, no combos. Just one piece, if that’s what you wish. If I am cheating on a diet, which I usually am, I go for one drumstick. Their wings are huge, and it doesn’t come with just the wing, but the white meat that’s attached to it. The batter is always crispy and the meat is moist. Their rolls are also amazing. they are like sweet clouds on your tongue.

I drove by this restaurant so many time and heard of it’s wave. I finally pull in and order out. The anticipation to arrive home and taste it was fun. Service: Great and Quick Service Price: Slightly pricier Quality: Fried Chicken-Crispy and Juicy but can use flavor on the inside Potatoes & Gravy-OK

I want to sleep on a bed of their homemade rolls. They are airy and soft, warm and inviting… and not to mention they are addictive! I’m spoiled when it comes to good fried chicken. Growing up in Texas, there was no shortage of places to get fried things done well and cheap. Ezell’s does it right and they do it spicy. I’d love it a little spicier but their seasoning is sound. The regular chicken is good too, both varieties are fried properly and not greasy. They make their mashed potatoes and gravy in house, the same goes for their slaw and rolls. Be patient for some of their okra when it’s on the menu. You’ll thank me! We rarely have room for dessert but once I brought home a slice of their bread pudding. It took us several days to work our way through that dense wedge of sweetness! I’ve been there when people have bought only desserts and once a woman came in to purchase two dozen rolls. She explained that it was for a potluck and she couldn’t bake them as good as they were made here. After having one of my very own, she spoke the truth! Service here is always pleasant. Bathrooms are clean and you’ll get your order to go fairly quickly. Take it away or eat there, there’s a couple of tables and counter seating. Parking can be limited because it shares a lot with the neighbouring Starbucks. If there’s nowhere to park, there’s a Walgreens next door.

I’ve heard good things about Ezell’s Chicken for a long time. Finally, I was able to try it with my sister! The location in Lake City is easy to find. It’s just in a plaza next to a Starbucks. Parking can be limited since it’s shared with Starbucks. The décor is similar to other fried chicken fast food restaurants with even more uncomfortable tables and chairs. However, the food definitely makes up for it. I am not really a white-meat person. I ordered two pieces of dark meat. It was good, good seasoning and moist. The sides(I had mashed potato and cole slaw) are good sides with proper portion. I love the fact even I didn’t eat excessively, I still had a food coma. After eating, I backed into a wall and broke my bumper :-| So, what I recommend is to order take-out. «Eat and Drive responsively» :-)

the thing about«famous» chicken is that it’s subject to partiality. i’m not very partial to ezell’s chicken but they are the only show in town. when i moved to seattle i kept hearing that it was the best. what i found was dry chicken with no flavor. how do people eat this stuff? sigh. i grew up with much better and i prefer to just make my own at home when i need a fix. lol. but i do go to ezell’s over and over for the gizzards. they remind me of my favorite place back home called go chicken go. in fact, when i saw ezell’s the first time i thought of kansas city’s go chicken go. the logo are practically the same! but the gizzards are the only thing i’ll eat there. i tried the chicken strips once and wondered if i was eating battered scraps because they were so thin i couldn’t see any chicken! when i ordered actual chicken it was burnt and flavorless. and when i ordered sides they came in what can only be described as baby food jars! seriously? grown folks need more than a spoonful! ugh. so again, i come for the gizzards. oh, and the bread. i come for the gizzards and the bread. if they stop making those i’d never go.

Honestly, I don’t frequent this neighborhood much! When an excuse arises, though, I jump on it! Ezell’s Chicken is def not in a part of town I would do a whole lot of business in, but if you’re around the ‘hood, it is worth the stop! The BF and I decided to pick up some chicken on our way home from camping at Lake Chelan. I knew neither one of us would be down with whipping up some sort of dinner after our camping trip, so I suggested we stop by Ezell’s on the way home, since it was pretty much on the way and we are never in the ‘hood. He thought it was a brilliant idea. It would be our first time actually going into an Ezell’s — the only other time we had Ezell’s famous chicken was during a softball game when our«team dad» ordered food between a double header we were playing. So, the BF and I walked into a very clean(and tiny) front and we were immediately greeted with a warm welcome from the girl behind the counter. We looked over the menu and settle on a favorite among customers — chicken strips(we did split of the original and spicy). We also ordered a small side of fried spicy okra(I love okra!) and two rolls! When we got home, the BF and I could not believe how good the strips were. They are just as tasty as his famous fried chicken. And, I couldn’t believe the BF loved fried okra. He had never had it before… they were hot and full of flavor! Forget Popeye’s or KFC, if you’re jonesing for some fried chicken — hit up Ezell’s!!!

We came in for takeout when we were craving fried chicken. We got in, ordered, and walked out in ten minutes, with a steaming bag stuffed full of fried chicken, sides, and rolls. It’s a small place, so I wouldn’t plan to eat there — they had maybe two or three small tables in the corridor and outside. Seemed clean, though, but I don’t linger in Lake City — sorry. The beans are spicy and tasty, the rolls are subtly sweet and fluffy(they look like they’re made in popover pans — very puffy), and the boy liked the mashed potatoes. They offer original and spicy chicken(he got the original, I got the spicy), and the spicy does have a nice kick, though it’s not anywhere near spicy enough to burn, or anything. The skins are crisp, and they have combos and things, so you can sample a bit of everything. They did forget my fries, and we didn’t check before we left, but that’s our fault, too. We’ll definitely go back the next time we need fried chicken!

I stopped by Ezell’s yesterday to get some take out lunch. I got 2 spicy chicken breasts with some cole slaw. When I got home and started eating the food I thought: «Sweet baby Jesus, why in the world I don’t eat here everyday?!» The food is good, the staff is friendly and the price is right. If you are considering going there for the first time, just remember that seating is very limited and it is more like a take out restaurant than dine in. I love this place and I recommend it to anyone who can appreciate a good fried chicken!

I have eaten Ezell’s since way back. I always loved their chicken. This location was great except that it took way too long to get my order. I guess they do gizzards by the order so they tell you it takes about 7 minutes. Apparently they had a few orders of both spicy and regular and there was confusion. I gave them a try and it took about 15+ minutes to get my order. They actually had to retrieve the customer ahead of me front heir car to fix their order. If you just order chicken, you are out the door in minutes. The food was good. Gizzards were over coated but cooked well. Prices are on the higher side but it’s a local chain.

Get the rolls! Get the beans! Get more rolls! And then… get the fried chicken wings; they have half a breast attached. It’s basically two pieces in one. They’re huge and they are lick-your-fingers and lick-your-friend’s-fingers good! And then have rolls for dessert after you already had two. Note to self: Pack some rice and fina’dene(a Guam condiment) for the next visit to this place.

Ezell’s does fried chicken better than anyone else in Seattle. It was so delish for just a minute I thought I was back in Atlanta. My only compliant is that the place gets so busy on the weekend that you should call your order in advance. Still, a small price to pay for such delicious grub. The peach cobbler and the spicy variety are top notch.

I worked in Wedgewood for about 9 months and dear god, I must have gained 15 lbs from Ezell’s Chicken alone. The Spicy strips are so good sometimes I’d open my eyes and be worried whether that white sauce on my strip was ranch or my own«ranch». The rolls are terrible though. We kept a pail specifically for Ezell’s rolls. We could have filled dumpsters. But instead we just threw them at birds.

In my country, we eat more than 2x as much chicken as anywhere else in the world. And I would guess 60% of that chicken is fried. Like most of my countrymen I consider myself something of a fried chicken expert, and I wasn’t very impressed. The chicken looks quite good: The quality of materials, and finished texture and colour was just about perfect. Unfortunately, the flavour was somewhat bland. Likewise, the sides were nothing amazing(avoid the potatoes and gravy at all costs), with the exception of the bread. The included roll was extremely good, and I would consider going there just for that. In addition, staff were very nice. In all, this reminds me of home-made fried chicken, and if you’re not too big on added flavours, this should fit the bill. I wouldnt go out of my way though.

Mmmmmm Ezells is one of my weaknesses. Everything isn’t good here, but what is good is GOOD! Example– their mashed potatoes, in my opinon are not good. They are nothing special and they are not worth wasting the money, calories, or stomach space on. However, their spicy chicken strips are amazing! ooooo so delicious. Especially with a couple sides of hot sauce. The hot sauce is a must! I have met Ezell a few times, and he seems like an alright guy, I’d much rather patron his establishment than a national chain. Plus… spicy chicken strips!!! Oh and this location is much nicer than the location up on 23rd ave, but that’s a given cuz it’s newer. Oh and I’ve been hearing about controversy surrounding this location… hopefully it will be ok… good luck Ezell!

I mean got damn, one time let it be a bad chicken eatery. Why this is not rated 5-stars across the board I don’t know. It’s fried chicken at its best. That’s all you need to hear. Get hungry and go eat. O yeah, and order 1lb of spicy chicken strips and you will want to marry me for the advice. *Sidenote I’m only accepted females marriage proposals.

I was very disappointed with my last experience at this Ezell’s. I hardly ever eat fried food, but the other day I had a craving for Ezell’s, so I called my fiancé and asked him to pick us up dinner on his way home. This location is about 15 minutes away from where we live, but on his route home from work. He ordered for me the spicy chicken breast-wing combo with mashed potatoes and gravy, cole slaw, and a roll. For himself he ordered the large chicken strips with a large fry. The chicken strips were supposed to come with a roll as well. Unfortunately for us, he did not check the bag to make sure they gave us all our food, because after arriving at home, we discovered that half our order was not there! They totally left out his chicken strips and roll, as well as my mashed potatoes and gravy. Our bill came to $ 19, $ 5 of which was for his chicken strips. So basically, we got $ 10 worth of food, but paid for it all. I called Ezell’s immediately and spoke with the manager. I told her that we lived to far to drive the whole way back for the food that they forgot, so I asked if we could just be credited for the omitted food. She obtained all of the information from our receipt and took my phone number and said she would call back and that our next meal was on them. Needless to say I never received a call back, and decided instead of calling them back and complaining a second time, a Unilocal review would suffice. The food that we got was delicious, but there’s no excuse for half of our order to be missing! Also, while my chicken was hot and flavorful, it was on the overcooked side, and the meat a tad rubbery. So lesson learned, if you go to Ezell’s, CHECKYOURBAG before leaving. Don’t rely on their employees to be competent enough to fill your order correctly.
