Foreign Car Workshop

I brought in my ’88 Mitsubishi Montero, which had a completely dead electrical system. Ryan and company were able to diagnose and change out the burned out fusible links pretty quickly, and for a reasonable price. Since my car is an older model with a non-​stock engine, some garages won’t even look at it (looking at you, Greg’s Japanese Auto), so I was very happy with my service from Foreign Car Workshop. Polite, professional, and reasonable prices.

Just updating my Unilocal review of Foreign Car Workshop that I had left 3 years ago. Both of my cars and I are 3 years older… my cars are running better than I thanks to Ryan and his crew!

I love Foreign Car Workshop. Everyone that works there are professionals. You know that when your car is repaired it has been done right and without breaking the bank. I recommend this shop to anyone that needs their car repaired. I have been taking my vehicles to them for years and they have never disappointed me, in fact I have always been impressed with their workmanship. My daughter took her working car into a Seattle dealership for a recall and walked out with a $ 3,000.00 laundry list of work that was urgent! I found Foreign Car Workshop due to positive on line reviews and they did a thorough inspection and found that most of the work was unnecessary! They gave us an honest repair list including new brakes and we were out the door for a fair and reasonable price. From my first email contact which was answered after hours, they have been professional and excellent to do business with. I highly recommend Foreign Car Workshop.

Very happy with the service on my Audi and Acura high mileage cars! Always dependable, honest and straightforward. They will not recommend a service you do not need. No need to go to the over priced dealerships with this gem of a shop right in the neighborhood!

My check engine light came on so we brought our car in for an oil change and an engine scan. They did the scan for free and then wrote out everything they recommended we do for maintenance and wrote down their prices so we could compare! The oil change was only $ 40 and our car was ready to be picked up in a couple of hours. We will definitelyly be going back.

These guys have been here for years and have a first rate reputation for not only being great mechanics but a mechanic you can actually trust to give you a fair price. I trust these guys to work on all my vehicles.

These guys are just the best. One of the most reliable and trustworthy mechanics I’ve ever had. If you need repairs, they’re totally transparent on costs and what’s a «must-​do» vs «do this sometime when you have money you want to spend on not-​fun stuff.»

These guys are awesome. Prompt, responsive and totally reasonable prices. Fixed my Mini for less than the dealership was going to charge to look at it! I would definitely use them again… though I hope I don’t have to. :)

Used to be good, then former owners retired. All young mechanics there now… they put in two starters for my car and both went bad within 6 months. Also after coming home from a water pump replacement, I found the power steering pump had been drained! Supposedly during the pump repair, they put in a timing belt. 9,000 miles later the belt broke (found out at Dere Auto)…many folks know these things are supposed to go 100,000 miles with recommended repair at 60 k or so. A total rip off joint. I have all the receipts.

I can finally say that I trust a mechanic. When I was growing up I was fortunate because my dad took care of our cars — he knew anything and everything about cars because he restored hotrods and Harleys as a hobby. Living in a different state from my dad has forced me to hop around from shop to shop. Not to feed the stereotype, but it really is quite intimidating to be a woman (a woman who also knows a thing or two about her own car) and talk to a mechanic. Why? Most of the time I feel like I’m getting scammed.
Before coming here, we used Jiffy Lube for routine maintenance. My SUV is 5 years old, well maintained and has less than 70K miles on it. It seems like Jiffy Lube always starts off okay, but gets worse over time. Every time I would take my car in for an oil change at Jiffy Lube, I couldn’t leave the shop without spending $ 200 and also being told that I needed to replace something else that I swore they replaced the last time.
This time my maintenance light came on telling me I was due for a B1 service. I called Jiffy Lube and asked for an estimate. They said it would start around $ 450. I hopped on Unilocal,messaged Foreign Car Workshop, copy & pasted everything that the B1 entailed and got a ~$ 150 quote back. I replied just to make sure that included the tire rotation and everything else I needed and they said «Yep, we’ve got everything covered for ~$ 150.»
How in the world could the price be that much different from Jiffy Lube to Foreign Car Workshop?
I scheduled my appointment immediately through Unilocal,took my car in and an hour and a half later, my bill came to exactly what they told me it would. Ryan went through the checklist of everything they did which was nice because he actually printed out what the B1 service entailed directly from the Acura website. He also told me when I would be due for other services.
Maybe it’s because it’s been a family owned business for so many years or maybe it’s just that they are good people, but I didn’t feel like I was being jerked around at all. I truly appreciate this kind of service. As long as I live in Seattle, I will continue to bring our cars here… and recommend them to every friend we know that has a car, whether it’s foreign or not.

These guys were amazing! Unilocal reviews do not lie! I was looking for a place in West Seattle for a simple oil change but chringed at the thought of having to take it to Jiffy Lube or Grease Monkey (based on those reviews), so after searching through Unilocal I found Forieng Car Workshop. They couldnt have been nicer and quickly did my oil change while I waited, they explained everything they checked and didnt try to push on any additional services! I will recommend these guys to everyone I know and will continue to bring my car here for simple oil changes and anything else I could need in the future. Thanks so much Foreign Car Workshop!

I reviewed them four years ago, and they’re still the most amazing folks around. I’ve now been using them for 30 years (starting when Ryan’s dad Perry ran it), have recommended to every West Seattle friend that I have (and a few outside West Seattle), and have nothing but total gratitude. Even for routine maintenance like oil changes, I always take it to them because I know they’ll look my car over and give me an honest sense of if there’s anything else that’s needed. And they won’t promote service that isn’t needed.
We haven’t seen them as much this past two years because we bought a Nissan Leaf electric that’s still under dealer’s warranty, so I actually look forward to the times when my 1993 Toyota needs routine servicing, because I get to take it there. Can’t recommend them more highly.

Ryan was our mechanic today when we sent a car for a buyers inspection. He definitely spent an hour or slightly over doing a very thorough check of the car. He is quiet but does a great job. He wrote neatly in our report and professionally explained to us what the goods and bads were about the car. We took away one star because at times Ryan spoke so slowly and softly and made us confused. Glad to know this place services volkswagons. Ryan seemed familiar with VW too so that was a bonus for us.

FCW is always a pleasure to work with, Ryan knows his stuff and is an honest guy. His quotes for parts and work as well as length of time needed are always correct. I feel very comfortable leaving my cars in the hands of Foreign Car Workshop.

These guys are absolutely fantastic, we take our VW Passat to them anytime it needs work. It’s nice to go to a mechanic that will take the time to explain to you what is wrong and doesn’t mind pointing out things under the hood. I’ve found them to be extremely courteous and always affordable. I had them replace my timing belt and after 6000 miles, it began to make a noise and Ryan took a day to fix the problem at no additional costs. These guys stand by their work and that is a refreshing trait to find with a mechanic. Can’t recommend them enough.

Foreign Car Workshop will be the only place I bring my cars from now on. They were fantastic, fair and were super friendly on top of it. I have been bringing my Mini Cooper to the dealer for years and this last time around, they gave me some ridiculous quotes on things that «were needing fixed». They felt a bit exaggerated (by a bit, I mean ridiculously exaggerated).
So, I emailed the nice gentlemen at Foreign Car Workshop for a soft quote of these items to see if they had a better quote from the dealer. Indeed they did. Brought the Mini in the next week for them to work on. They called a couple hours in and informed me that the items the dealer said needed to get done, were in fact not something to be concerned about yet (and maybe never on one) but that I could use some new brakes (the brakes were very old).
They fixed her up great and saved me a ton of moolah in the process. They don’t nicle and dime. They know their cars. They won’t tell you to do something you don’t need… unlike so many places sadly. They have a customer for life for sure.

Years ago my late wife used to drive all the way to West Seattle from our home in Madrona to let these guys work on her beloved bug. I have been on the East Coast for a while but when I returned I remembered them. Nothing has changed here except the generation running this honorable, expert business offering a neighborhood feel and world class service. All my brakes replaced in exactly the amount of time they said and for the exact price they estimated. I was so glad to find them again I didn’t use the coupon I had and I am thrifty and not so rich. Ryan, you were great! I will be back.

Foreign Car workshop is exactly what the other reviews here say. They are absolutely ethical in diagnosing your car and prompt in repair. I have used them for over ten years for vehicles foreign and domestic. I am pretty skeptical of mechanics ethics but I have come to absolutely trust their advice because our car and truck rarely have problems.
My wife and I like to get oil changes here so that Ryan and Chris can notice if there is an issue. Life is simpler now that we don’t have to worry about who is messing around with the systems that keep us safe on the road. Still miss old Perry. He had a way of making you laugh when your car was broken. Although I think that his son Ryan is just as good, under the hood, he isn’t quite as funny as his Dad was. But then, Who is?
Point is, it’s a family thing, local, and independent. They are fair and accurate with a huge track record. Totally recommended.

I was new to the northwest and stumbled upon this gem of a shop. Everyone is really nice, honest and you can trust them 100%. Even though my car only has to go in maybe once a year I will never go anywhere else.

I recently went to foreign car workshop to get my Toyota Tacoma serviced. Seemed simple enough and it was quite so. Staff is friendly and inviting. There is something to be said about the feel of a local family owned business. They treat you like family right? Price was in line with the market so absolutely fair– I like supporting local businesses and If your looking for honest advice and get treated like family, they are at the top of my list.

Thank you Ryan and Chris for getting my car back on the road so quickly and so reasonably priced.
