Our usual place was closed on Xmas Day, so we tried Fortune Garden because it had the shortest line. It was still pretty crazy, though, so I want to give them a partial pass for the service problems we had. We showed up around 7:30 pm and put our names on the list. Most of the tables there seemed to be large groups, so our group of two was seated in about 10 – 15 minutes. I wish there was a little more room to stand and wait inside — no matter where you are, you feel like you’re in the way, and the space in front of the counter seems reserved for people waiting for takeout orders. Based on Unilocaler suggestions, we ordered hot and sour soup, peavines with garlic, honey garlic pork ribs, and fried sticky rice. The peavines came out quickly, but that was the only thing we got for a while, so it felt odd to just be eating a veggie side dish. The honey garlic ribs came next, and while I wasn’t expecting them to be breaded chunks, it was a generous portion with a flavorful sticky sauce. The hot and sour soup, which you would expect to come out first, came last. Even the small size is a large bowl, more than enough for two people to share and have leftovers. It has pickled veggies and a stronger sour flavor than usual, which I loved! When we finally ate the fried rice at home(see below), it was just like the sticky rice wrapped in a lotus leaf that you get at dim sum, but a full-size entrée portion, with lots of sausage, mushrooms, and cilantro — so watch out if you’re a cilantro hater. OK, the service. During the meal, we never got the fried sticky rice or the Sprite we had ordered, and by the time we finished eating and waited a bit, we figured that they had just been forgotten. No one had checked in with us or asked if we were waiting on anything else, and it didn’t even seem like we had our own server — the entire staff was rushing around taking orders and serving. We asked for the check and requested that they remove the items we didn’t get from the bill, but just then the fried rice FINALLY appeared, so they wanted to pack it up for us and still charge us full price. It would have been courteous of them to offer some kind of discount, considering the disjointed order that the dishes came out and the fact that they forgot the drink, but nope. It seems like larger tables generally get better service here. Whether that’s because they’re ordering more or just more visible, I’m not sure, but we watched a large round table next to us get dish after dish while we were eating our sad little peavines. Still, the food was good enough that I would try it again on a less busy night, or better yet, order takeout and avoid the crowded dining area. 3.5 stars overall.

I’ve always come to fortune garden for a fulfilling Chinese dinner experience. Always love the food as it is exquisite in quality and glistening with flavor. Seasonal fish and chicken wings are delicious! Always love getting chicken wings at Asian restaurants as they are fried to perfection and tossed in a delicious garlic jalepeno topping. Would recommend this restaurant amongst others in the international district. Just one caveat is the service can be a little better but it’s always busy, and once you try, you’ll know why!

My new favorite place in Chinatown for Chinese food as we recently came here to celebrate a birthday dinner. I was really surprised by how tasty and overall dinner came out to be since I don’t have much expectations when coming to Chinatown especially for dinner. The restaurant itself is quite small and can accommodate less than 100 people when fully seated. Seating was very cramped for our party of 13 people as we were almost elbow to elbow. If you have a big party coming here make sure you have a reservation otherwise you might be waiting for awhile as they only have a couple big tables. We ordered a king crab which was cooked just great with garlic/onion and vermicelli noodles. The crab was a very big size and it was more than we can finish. They cut all the pieces of the crab in half or small sizes so you don’t have to worry much about cracking the crab yourself or struggling with opening the pieces. The honey garlic spareribs were done very nicely with it being not too sweet with the honey, but just the right amount to give it a great overall taste. One of my favorites of the dinner was the sticky rice. It was just terrific with all the different ingredients combined to give it all that tasty goodness and I wished we had more. The other items we tried were the long string beans with minced pork, eggplant, free range chicken with garlic sauce and a starter soup. They were all nicely prepared and very tasty to say the least. At the end of the meal they provide a nice orange fruit plate to help with digestion. Service here was quick even though we did have to wait a bit for our table even though we had a reservation, but once we were seated the food came out pretty quickly once we put in our order. Overall my new destination if ever choosing a place to eat in Chinatown for dinner.

Good late night spot after a game down at Safeco. Fairly cheap prices and HUGE potions. Did I mention how large the portions are? My friend and I ordered the beef & egg chow fun and an order of wonton soup and we would have needed a third person to finish all of the food. Friendly staff and homey-style restaurant so I’ll probably try it again.

Nice atmosphere(much better than other Chinese restaurants in Chinatown). Service is ok. Taste is ok. Price is ok. I am not a big fan of Chinese food, but most of my family members enjoyed the dinner and night.

I was last here on Christmas Day 2014(and reviewed.) I doubt that I’ll go back… Kung Pao Chicken was not good. Then chicken itself was overcooked and chewy, like an eraser. The vegetables were beyond the crisp-tender stage and were at that unappealing mushy state, even the celery. There was over a cup of «sauce» and the only colorful thing in the tan and green preparation were 3 slices of overly cooked carrots. Indifferent customer service, too!

We were visiting from New York and came to Fortune Garden for dinner. We were very satisfied with the food. It was all very fitting to our taste and everything was delicious. The prices were also inexpensive. We had the fish maw soup(I believe it was called) and for no more than $ 8(very cheap!) it was more than enough for our party of three. We ended up having 2 – 3 bowls full each. We also had the Ong Choy, curry chicken, and a pork and lotus root dish. The restaurant isn’t very large but it wasn’t crowded either when we came. It was very comfortable. Since it wasn’t a very large restaurant, the staff was very friendly and attentive. We were 100% satisfied with our meal 5⁄5

As per usual, affordable lunch menu but very expensive dinner. The food itself is good, try that family style dinner set menu and it’ll be worth it for a big group. The jellyfish appetizer is worth it, the texture is gelatinous, spicy, sweet and savory all at once. The dinner menu is quite expensive. I ordered the fish fillet with vegetables, Ong choy with shrimp paste and of course steamed rice. The bill came out to $ 28. The upside is that they are open until 3 am so for those who get out of work late, this is a definite plus.

Overall, the food here is awesome with somewhat efficient service. The portions are pretty big; family size and great for groups. If you like fried foods, I would recommend the honey & garlic chicken and/or deep fried pepper salted chicken. But the sizzlin’ short ribs are not really worth it because there were more bones than meat and they DIDNOT serve it with red bell peppers.

Always love coming here! Its such a positive experience every time i come here! The food is always tasty and delicious. I haven’t had a problem with the food at all. My only concern is that the restaurant itself is a bit small, so it might not accommodate large groups. But for a decent sized group its great!(But make sure to call ahead and get a reservation) Pricing isn’t too bad compared to the other options in the International District. Owner is very nice, so is the staff. Would definitely come back!

This is one of those Chinese restaurants you come with your whole family and share everything. Highly recommend the fresh oysters in black bean sauce, steamed tilapia, and jelly fish appetizer. Service was great even though they were busy.

I love this place. I come here at least once a week. Hot&sour soup is very good. Not too spicy. Just perfect. Beef and broccoli is very good. When you order duck you need to specify exactly how you want it. I ordered it couple times before and they brought me wrong order each time. Definitely recommend this restaurants. Also, it’s one of the cleanest ones.

This place is awesome– as long as you don’t order chicken chow mein, orange chicken, beef with broccoli, or any other gross faux Asian dish. I will seriously reach out of your computer screen to slap you if you base your review on any of the above mentioned dishes. Seriously. TRYITTT As far as late night Cantonese eats go, this is my spot. Most of the hot pots here are great– try the beef tendon with daikon radish(they’re super generous with the tendon) or lamb with ginger and green onion. The dried scallop soup is really fragrant and tasty as well. I also really enjoy the cold jellyfish appetizer with sweet daikon and carrots. David is the waiter there on pretty much every night. He seems kinda grumpy at first, which might be off-putting to some, but he’s the homie if you actually get to know him.

I’m surprised by the great reviews. This is definitely not a 4 star place. If you are going on taste/flavor it’s 2 star, service 1 star, portion size and cost well that’s really good so 4 stars. So the portions are huge, but who cares if the taste isn’t good? The service is awful. They are rude, forget to bring things, don’t check on you, and are not patient when you ask questions. The food is all mediocre and I thought tasted pretty Americanized. I’ve had a lot of home cooked Chinese food(from Chinese friends) and have eaten in much more authentic tasting Chinese food places in Seattle. My husband ordered the squab(pigeon) which he was not really impressed with. It was pretty big but really lacked in taste. I ordered the seafood and tofu hotpot which was pretty good. The one thing I didn’t like was the pieces of something that tasted like rubber and so hard to chew. I have no idea what they were(small twisted white chunks) and maybe that was how they were supposed to taste. I also ordered seafood fried rice. It was fine. Both were huge servings. My friend ordered hot and sour soup. This was a huge bowl for $ 5.25 but we didn’t like the taste. It was sour and not spicy or very flavorful. She also ordered potstickers which didn’t come until the end because they had been delivered to the wrong table. I won’t return to this place, just wasn’t worth it.

Went here on a Friday night for dinner to meet up with some friends, no wait at all, place wasn’t busy but had customers. I forgot this used to be Ga Ga Loc… Dang that was a long time ago. Staff was super friendly, helpful, even more helpful if someone speaks Cantonese. Place was pretty clean, and bathroom wasn’t bad at all. Anyways, for 4 of us we ordered beef chow fun which was delicious, also some other chow mein-ish noodle dish but noodles were crunchy with seafood on top… that was awesome! I like it when the crunchy parts gets a little soggy from the sauce. A sizzling pot with chicken & veg… I thought someone ordered sizzling fajitas as I could hear em’ coming from around the corner. That was pretty darn good too. And finally gotta get some green beans which was my favorite! Plenty of leftovers and for 4 entrees and rice was about $ 44 bucks. This place was a little better than my go-to regulars I frequent. Will try them out a few more times if I need to do an updated review.

Very good food. I had the Mongolian beef with fried rice, combo. It came with soup and tea. The portion size was perfect. The price was excellent. The flavors all came together nicely and the texture was great. The culinary display was delightful.

Short Sum: Pretty traditional and clean Chinese restaurant. Pros: — Traditional Chinese restaurant with your usual dishes(lemon chicken, crispy chow mein, etc). — Food is delicious. Mongolian beef was good. BBQ fried rice was pretty good too! — Service was great. The waitresses were really friendly. — Clean venue and restrooms! — In Chinatown, so you can visit other places nearby including the park with the large chess and ping pong tables across the street. Cons: — Thought the crispy chow mein was a bit on the plain side. Could have used more oyster sauce. Go Back? If I’m back in Seattle and craving Chinese, this is the place I’ll go straight to!

For years I have steered clear of Chinatown. The food has either been far too exotic or heavy is seafood. I love Chinese food but find it hard to find what I consider traditional Cantonese like when I was a kid. Today I stumbled on a hole in the wall that is not only clean, but classy. The food was hot fresh and flavorful and a good portion for the price. They are also open late which may make them my new late night go to spot with friends and family. The service was warm and friendly and they truly appear to be respectful people that take pride in their property.
