Gregg’s Greenlake Cycle

My husband and I purchased a new Specialized road bike at Gregg’s this weekend. We couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. Tony, one of their awesome bike sales staff, helped my husband pick out the perfect bike, spending two hours helping him review models, test drive, get the model he picked out ready and tuned up, and showing him all the bells and whistles. We also purchased a few accessories, and had great help from their other staff, too. Gregg’s has tremendous selection, reasonable prices, and expert staff. Great place!

I had the pleasure of meeting up with Fritz for a body geometry fit at Gregg’s yesterday. His attention to detail and the commitment with which he approached getting things right was much appreciated.
Alexis helped me out in selecting properly fitting shoes. He went into great detail about how a cycling shoe should fit while double checking the pair I was trying on. Fritz then helped me dial in a finer-​tuned fit using shims under the footbed to guarantee a much more solid base for pedaling.
After the fit was complete, Johan took over and found the time to make final adjustments and to install my new, slightly narrower handle bars.
At the end of the process, I left the shop riding far more efficiently and with better balance than I’ve ever had before. I am looking forward to returning to distance riding with great anticipation now that I have a properly fitting bike. I would recommend anyone looking for a for to spend the extra money and get the body geometry fit at Gregg’s. It’s a great time/​money investment.

Thank you, Greggs, for your steller customer service. I appreciate you allowing me to return a pair of special ordered cycling shoes when they did not fit properly. I’ll definitely be back!

I bought a bike there about 6 years ago, but didn’t ride much. After I did, I noticed it didn’t change gears well. In fact, my brand new specialized couldn’t use a 3^rd of its gears. When I brought it in to be fixed, they couldn’t figure it out. They just shrugged their shoulders and that was it.
I was so disappointed, I vowed never to return. I didn’t ride much for a while a let it slide. Then a couple of years ago, picked it up again. Still frustrated by the gear thing, but still determined to ride.
Yesterday, thanks to a coupon and a need for a few accessories, I went into the place once again. While chatting with the staff, I mentioned the gear problem (which btw another bike shop on the Burke Gillman also could not figure out) and they encouraged me to bring it in. So I did.
When I went to pick it up, an employee named Carleen was there and she said she had done the work on it. She explained what the problem had been (a cable run incorrectly). Great! Took it for a test drive and found, not to my surprise, that it STILL didn’t work. But things have changed at Gregg’s in 6 years. Now they seem to have a staff that is not only technically competent, but actually care about their work.
Carleen was puzzled and then took the problem on as a personal challenge. No bike was going to beat her! She asked for a little more time and went to work. Within two hours, I got the call from her that it was now fixed.
Sure enough, she replaced a bunch of parts and got the thing working right. She happily walked me through the work she did and repairs made. On top of that, because of the hassle (and possibly to make up for my previous experience) the price was very reasonable and customer favorable. I couldn’t be happier. With the new staff (especially Carleen), I’m back to being a Gregg’s Greenlake customer.

It’s an update… Gregg’s responded to my previous review, which in my book is enough to gain back a star, but they’ve gone beyond that, and we continue to shop there. I guess everybody has a bad day… :)

Excellent! Bought a new bike a week ago, process was really smooth. Came in, test rode and bought. Employees are very friendly and helpful. I will definitely recommend Gregg’s Cycle to anyone looking for a bike. Betsy was also really helpful

Rip off! Bought a «Tune UP» through groupon and once I got there they said they couldn’t do it without me first buying a bunch more parts. Aweful service. Really disappointed in this place. Won’t go back and definitely won’t recommend them at all.

These guys are jerks. How jerky are they, you might ask? Well, recently I attempted to rent a road bike from them. In the back of my head I had a recollection that I’d tried this before and it didn’t go well for some reason. I’d ended up renting elsewhere but couldn’t remember why except I thought they were jerks. But, they are close to my house so I thought I’d give them another try.
I’d thought $ 50/​day seemed like a fair price, and since I’m in the market for a road bike anyway, I was excited to take some a bike on my list of possibles out for a day long spin. It all seemed to be clicking in to place nicely. Until I read the fine print in which they state rentals do not include pedals. *record scratch* *double take* WHAT? I mean, last I checked pedals are a somewhat critical part of the bike.
That tells you pretty much everything you need to know about these guys. Ok, maybe they only want to rent bicycles to serious cyclists. You know, the kind who carry bike pedals everywhere they go, JUST IN CASE.
Yeah… Greggs, you are everything that is wrong with cycling in this city– the spandex clad eliterati. I’ll go ahead and head on over to recycled cycles instead.

I went in on a busy Sunday afternoon and the store was packed! To my delight, I was helped within about 5 minutes.
I was in the market for a new bike helmet, and Alexis came to the rescue! He told me everything there was to know about helmets, answered all of my questions, and even put up with my extreme indecisiveness.
Alexis was great, as was Conor, and I left with a beautiful new helmet. Thanks, Gregg’s! I’ll definitely be returning.

My girlfriend and I visited Gregg’s Cycles to find what would be her first bicycle in over 15 years. We needed a guide that would help us get back into cycling and show us what to look for in an introductory bike.
Tony filled that role, with both patience and knowledge. After identifying the type of biking we would do (Burke Gilman trail biking, etc), he presented a few options that had a couple distinctions between them. Tony presented many concepts about biking in a way that was easy to understand as newcomers.

I haven’t had such a great in-​store customer service in a very long time!
My husband and I are thinking about picking up cycling as a way to spend time together and exercise, so we stop by Gregg’s on Greenlake. The store was massive, and a big plus, it has private parking in the back. As we walked in, the employees were very personable (not in the «what can I sell you today» way, but more of a «hey, how’s your day going? check out that tandem bikes on the ceiling. want to hear a cool story?» way).
We wander into the Bike Sales area, and that’s where we met Dylan. Now, as it was 5:30pm, my husband’s ADD is in full gear, and Dylan made a mistake of ask us if he could help us… on his way to dinner break. He ended up assisting us for 4 hours, answering all kinds of questions, set us up for test runs, helped us with accessories and installations, searching for the perfect accessories (while avoid upsell). All these things while running on no dinner.
He helped us select the perfect bikes, not the most expensive bikes. He really listened to what we were going to use the bikes for and was very honest when we were going to overspend. He was very knowledgeable about the bikes in the store and can tell at a glance the pros, cons, style, fits, riding experience, and everything in between.
After all that, he was with us until 9:30pm, after the store had closed to finish helping us customize the bike and putting in requests to get parts that they didn’t have in stock from the other stores in the area.
We were impressed and now very educated about biking.

These guys were great! Even though they were super busy, Cary spent a ton of time with me to help me buy my first bike in 20 years. He let me try out several bikes and had me try competing brands. All of these trials helped me understand that spending a bit more than I had planned would make my rides much more enjoyable.
They had to put one together for me to purchase so I came back the next day to pick it up. Several of the guys worked with me to help me get a super cute helmet and a lock (the out the door necessities). Adam helped me get my bike, took it for a final safety check and of course, ring me up.
The whole time no one tried to sell me more than I wanted and they answered all my questions to help me make good decisions.
This was an awesome experience and after visiting several shops before this, I am now a customer for life (or at least as long as I live in Seattle!).

Welcoming bike shop that has always been cool with a quick tire pump or advice when not in need of products or services. Knowledgable about gear and steered me in the right direction for exactly what I came in for. Thanks for continued great service!

Got my big wheeled purple badass evo bike from Greggs! Although I hate driving down to Greenlake I’m glad I did bc they had the most as far as bike selection around that I have seen! The workers were pretty nice there and answered all of my questions. I love that if you are thinking about a certain bike that you can put down a $ 20 deposit and leave your license with them and go test ride it around Greenlake if you wanted. I bought 3 bikes from them… one for me and 2 for my boys. We just rode up and down the side walk and then I decided we had to have them! lol The only thing I wished they had was more color choices for my bike and helmets for my ginormous head! lol Buuuut, I guess it’s not their fault I have a humongous head! ha Anyway, me and my boys have been riding our new bikes everyday since we have gotten them last week! We love them and will for go back to Greggs for our bike needs!

Layla in the retail department was amazing with me when trying to get bike shoes that fit. I have hard-​to-​fit feet… size 11. I must have returned shoes 3 times until I got my sizing correct. She’s patient, cheerful, knowledgeable and totally goes out of her way. (Give her a raise!)
She also introduced me to Fritz who helped with shoe sizing as well. He also sized me for a bike seat… now I have a seat that fits correctly. Then, they referred me to Sam, who does incredible bike fittings and does a thorough report for future reference which stays on file. I highly recommend him!
I’m working with Fritz now to find the right road bike using my bike fitting report! I’ll go back to Sam for a thorough fitting. Love this service!

Very helpful. Extensive selection!!!
I worked mostly with Dylan. When we walked in we were greated by a cheerful guy that knew not what we spoke of but made sure to walk us right back to the bike shop and waited until he was positive we had help.
Dylan walked all over the (super extensive) bike floor to find the exact 52 my boyfriend had called about for me to test ride– price point $ 1500.00
They let me test ride that and fit it for me AND though they seemed a bit hesitant, let me test ride the most exciting Specialized Diverge, full carbon, cherry red bike (pricepoint $ 3500). I would have bought it in a heartbeat if i didn’t need a slightly more practical bike.
Dylan was super patient with my barrage of questions, very knowledgeable, humbly shared his opinion versus what he considered fact and was very honest rather than pushing a sale.
I would go back… and just might go back for that «porsche» of a bike when I save up.
Kid friendly too. While we were there. I saw a mom and her approx 8 yr old son getting superb help from the other staff.
They were all cheerful and happy to be there.

I just bought a new hybrid bike from Gregg’s and had a great experience. I spent several hours there over 2 days, and all the salespeople I worked with (Cary, Gabi, Adam) were super helpful, patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. They were there to help me find the right bike, did not pressure me, and were patient with all my questions. Cary in particular is outstanding. He spent a long time working with me to try to get the right fit, make sure I was happy with all the components, figuring out which model to get, etc.
A little work was needed on the bike before I could take it home (installing fenders, putting on a new handlebar, etc), and I came back the next day just before closing. Outside the store while I was standing in the rain trying to take off the wheels to fit it into my car, an off-​duty Gregg’s employee stopped to help. First-​rate customer service all the way.
The service plans are also a great deal – a one time fee of $ 175 (Silver) or $ 250 (Gold) for an annual tuneup/​overhaul for the lifetime of the bike, tire repair service, etc. I hope the maintenance visits go as well as the purchase.

The mechanic who helped me out was fantastic! I picked up a Masi CXGR cyclocross at the bike swap. It was a good deal, but it had a few issues: front and rear wheel way out of true, disc brakes poorly adjusted, and rear dérailleur not shifting to top gear. So I stopped in to Gregg’s to get an assessment and make an appointment.
The mechanic took a quick look and also saw that the headset was loose. Not only did I get the assessment, but he was able to true the wheels for me right then. And fixed the brakes and rear dérailleur while he was at it. I stopped back in 30 min, and picked up a perfectly adjusted bike. The price was cheap, service was fast, quality was fantastic. Thanks!

I’d give zero stars if I could
I brought my bike in for a tune up, when they called to let me know my bike was ready I noticed the following:
Flat tires
Loose handle bars
After having to ask them to fill the tires and tighten the bars they claimed it was an honest oversight.
The driveshaft was stiffer and peddling was 50% harder than before, in every gear. The chain was super tight.
I had to take my bike in for another tune up to fix the bad tuneup done at greggs.
I will never bring my bike here.

Yay! It’s summer let’s go biking… or at least get a bike first. Which we did after a long winding road that did not end with Gregg’s Cycles.
We came in on a week night half an hour before closing to peruse some bikes. We had something vague in mind so we tried to check that out. It was very understandable that the guys there were ready to pack shop and I think we got paired with a rookie. He tried to explain some differences but the bottom line was they didn’t have the one model we wanted to try built so he made a note and said he’ll build it within a couple of days (and call us). Great, we went home and a week later still no news from Gregg’s cycles. We called they said there is no such note about building such a bike. We put in a request not and they told us just come over in 2 days, it will be there. Two days later (in the afternoon) still no bike and no info of the ticket being in the system. Boooo.
Fortunately, this time we got paired with Carrie and Carrie knows his stuff. He very patiently schooled us (in a good way) on bikes and said the bike will definitely get done one way or another by the next day. As awesome as Carrie was the bike didn’t get done by the next day so we were kind of bummed. I spent another 20 mins on the phone with a guy that was beyond clueless about the brands they carry in store and their prices. I had the website open in front of me so I could easily tell hime numbers and models and the like and he was still not sure what exactly we wanted built and whether it was in store. They did call us 2 days later but by then we had already purchased a bike at another store.
Overall, this makes it ¹⁄₃ experiences good with their reps. Some really good folks seem to work there but I still find the service very inconsistent. What an unfortunate situation since Gregg’s Cycles in one of these locally owned places you kind of want to be a customer at.
