You can order the Hawaiian Breeze menu at Shima. Just ask when you walk in. It has the full menu. Nice ambience and good food.

This restaurant is NOT closed. I called early this evening to order takeout((my favorite is BBQ chicken, which has a fabulous teriyaki sauce) but they were not answering their phone. I checked Unilocal, which stated the restaurant had closed. Fortunately, I know that Shima is its sister restaurant, and they serve the Hawaiian Breeze menu threre, so I called Shima to order. Before a I entered Shima to pick up the order, I walked right around th corner to Hawaiian Breeze’s storefront, and the place was packed with diners. Normally, the diners congregate at Shima, and Hawaiian Breeze gets the spillover. If there are available tables at Shima, there will be no diners at Hawaiian Breeze.

Ugh, our experience is just not one that a dining customer should go through. We walked into Hawaiian Breeze which was covered in miscellaneous clutter and wasn’t very clean. We were directed to walk through a narrow hallway that fed us into their adjoining sushi restaurant and to request the Hawaiian menu. These time estimates are no exaggeration and we were two of 12 patrons in the restaurant. We ordered three sushi rolls — 2 phillys and a spicy tuna hand roll… it took 30 minutes for it to come to our table. We ordered fried rice and it took 40 minutes from time ordered to get to the table. Water was a luxury, we got it after 3 requests and 20 minutes the first time around and then refills came once after 2 requests. Also, when we ordered loco moco — they told us that they were out of loco moco… that’s confusing… so are you out of egg, gravy or beef? It’s the main staple hawaiian dish… and you are marketing yourself as a hawaiian restaurant. So we won’t be returning. I feel like two stars is fair because when the food did finally come out, it was fine. And the service wasn’t rude, they just seemed overwhelmed by 5 tables so it feels unfair to be less than somewhat understanding.

As implied by the name, Hawaiian Breeze is a small Hawaiian restaurant in the heart of Wallingford on 45th street. Food: great options with a large menu. My favorite is the fried chicken or pork(katsu) which comes with a side of white rice(usually 2 scoops) and macaroni salad(1 scoop — wish they gave more!) A little salty as is most Hawaiian food, but tasty and good portion size. Other options include spam musubi and loco moco. Good variety of drinks. Also have shaved ice. The restaurant shares their kitchen with Shima sushi which is located on the side street. Therefore, you can also order sushi — there is a separate menu. Ambiance: the space is small, but there are 7 – 10 tables of varying sizes. A good family place — I often see kids here. TV on in the background playing Hawaiian music. Big negative for me — they have takeout, but they charge an extra 40 cents for each takeout box. Still, a great option for some Hawaiian food if you are in Wallingford. Probably not as good as Kona Kitchen, but a good alternative and the only Hawaiian restaurant in the neighborhood.

After a few hours of running around Seattle trying to see orcas, we decided to stop in after spotting it while driving around Wallingford for dinner. Anyone who knows Wallingford knows there are a multitude of tempting restaurants worthy of your money, but this one seemed quaint and sounded good, so we circled the block, parked, and headed for the door. The restaurant is fairly insignificant inside, and the«stuff» that other reviewers posted about sitting on the side of the dining area is – yep, you guessed it – stil there. We waited for nearly five minutes before someone finally came out to seat us. We were getting ready to walk out when she popped around the corner and seated us, then presented menus. She disappeared again, and we didn’t see her for nearly ten more minutes. Our order was pretty simple: An order of short ribs, a combo plate of chicken and short ribs, and a cheeseburger for our kid. Kapoof. Our bubble was burst. She tells us no mac salad — they’re out. Mac salad is a staple in a plate lunch! Oh, and no cheese, but she offered to have someone run across to the QFC to get it. In lieu of mac salad, she offered us more rice or a green salad. Oh, and for drinks? She tells us they only have a few cans of Hawaiian Sun left, but were out of the popular choices. Sigh. Ten minutes later, our drinks came out. The soda was in a can, but whatever, I’ll take it. About 25 minutes later, the food came out. Presentation was decent, but the marinade was a bit too sweet and the ribs were a bit charred for our liking. Also, the cheeseburger — the mythical cheeseburger that would’ve made our daughter happy since she was hungry — didn’t come out until 15 minutes after our food was served. I wound up giving her half my dinner to eat so she wouldn’t have to sit there and watch us eat. We were full, so that was a plus, but it was nothing spectacular. I’m a guy from Hawaii and appreciate good Hawaiian barbecue, but to me, this wasn’t exactly close to good. It was decent, and that’s being generous. While we were eating, we watched couples and friends roll in and experience the same thing with the long wait to be seated, the menu items not being available, and the disconcerting delay in bringing water to the table. Overall, I am going to have to concur with quite a few of the reviews here that say this place really lacks luster in a lot of areas: Namely service, availability of menu items, quality of food, and service. I am not sure if we’ll return or not, but if we do, I hope to see improvements in the areas mentioned. I’m all for good Hawaiian food, but this barely made the grade, and I’m pretty easygoing overall.

I didn’t want to give this place only 2 stars. The food is actually pretty tasty. But everytime I go here my overall experience is not great. First, I ordered a pick up only to be told that they were randomly closed that day for a catering order they were prepping. That is somewhat understandable but at the same time you can’t fulfill an a catering order and run your everyday business? Not to mention the lady on the phone was rude about it. Second, they were out of everything even coca cola. I had to reorder three times before I found something on the menu that they weren’t out of. BTW they’re online menu is out of date they don’t offer everything they list on that menu. Third, the place is in complete disarray. Dirty windows, junk spead out on the counter and half of the entire restaurant is just staked with boxes and spare tables. It strange. The place needs a spring cleaning. I mean the counter is filthy. Lastly, the owner, well I think is the owner, is not friendly or welcoming. A little arrogant. our waiter however, was very nice and did a great job Bottom line, food is good everything else is a thumbs down.

The absolute worst place I’ve been to in a LONG time. I absolutely hated it. I was very tempted to walk out mid-meal. Where do I start? Let’s see… the waitress was smug, nonchalant and generally just the most indifferent waitress I’ve spoke to in awhile. I really feel like I was on an episode of «Restaurant stakeout.» They were out of everything, it seemed! No mahi. After one Sapporo, they ran out. They ran out of mac salad. A local place! ran out of mac salad. the salad we got looked dingy. She offered to add a few extra shrimp instead of the mahi. My mother in law, being someone that spent her whole life in Hawaii was shocked to receive BBQSAUCE on her hamburger steak. When told about it, all the waitress simply argued that it is on the menu that way. WHY?! Have you ever heard the customer is always RIGHT?! The best part? They took the hamburger steak back, washed it off and then added gravy it was supposed to have! How do we know? The meat had the same bite mark on it! Bottom line, she didn’t give a crap and I am absolutely disgusted with our experience there. The food we got didn’t come close to making up for it. The chicken katsu was dry. This is a truly a sad excuse of a business and I don’t expect they will be much longer. I am truly disappointed by the local food in general in the Seattle metro.

Really great bbq! Finally went here after wanting to for a very long time(they share a kitchen with Shima sushi), they have a pretty laid back atmosphere(Hawaiian stuff on the walls, boxes and old cash registers on the side). Nice flat screen and they let us change the channel away from some tacky 24⁄7 court drama channel. FOOD: Was very excellent, we had the short ribs and a chicken(they have a combo if you wont be sharing). Both marinades were perfect, the sauce was awesome on both meats. Short ribs were good sized but only parts of the strips were actually meaty but this can be expected with short ribs. Chicken was very plentiful and all entrees come with steamed rice and macaroni salad which was amazing. I had a cracked egg but there wasnt any yolk(too well done) which was a bit of a drag so I just cut up the egg and made fried rice with siracha. They also brought out some bbq sauce which was terrific with the rice. I will return as soon as possible because it is possibly my favorite food, only thing to note is we waited for 10 minutes before someone came out /brought menus which was odd but they are friendly and I dont believe it would happen again. They also have fish and chips, burgers and sushi(which we love from Shima) we saw the burgers and fries which looked decent.

We stumbled upon this amazing Hawaiian restaurant. It had the feel and look of a place on Kauai. They offer both Hawaiian and sushi menus. I ordered rolls and some sashimi and both tasted fresh and delicious. My husband ordered chicken katsu and that was also very good. They also had Hawaiian beer and sake. Accommodating customers with a giant stroller like us was impressive in such a small food establishment. e would definitely go back again when we are in the area.

Three stars. BUT, qualified by saying that I am not a native Hawaiian and so I don’t have a benchmark for Hawaiian food. If I could have my dream mashup at Hawaiian Breeze, it would be a mashup between the chicken Katsu(chicken cutlet served with rice and macaroni salad) and the Kara-Age chicken(ginger based boneless fried chicken served with rice and macaroni salad). I love the flavor of the Kara-Age chicken, but I want Kara-Age chicken breast. I’m not a dark(or anything other than the breast) meat fan of chicken, and while I know this is unreasonably picky, I like what I like. If I could get a Kara-Age chicken done with a chicken breast, I’d be a really happy girl(and would probably be at Hawaiian Breeze once a week) — the ginger flavor is delicious!

I dont know where the rest of the reviews came from or if this is even the same restaurant. I wanted some Hawaiian food, it was somewhere that I have wanted to try for awhile, and I didn’t want to drive to Maple Leaf for my usual place of destination(for which I will leave unnamed). I decided to give the Chicken/Short Rib plate a try instead of going with my usual Kalua Pork… First off I was the only one there, the place looked as if it was in total dissaray, junk lying everywhere. As soon as I walked in, someone came scurrying out from the attached sushi restaurant, turned on the tv and took my order. After taking my order and charging my card I was told that it would be 25 minutes; at that point I was obligated to stay. If I would have known that prior to ordering I would have just gone down the street to somewhere a bit quicker. Don’t get me wrong, I will wait 25 minutes, if the food was going to be spectacular. If was a far cry from spectacular. The chicken was over-cooked and dry and had probably been siiting in that marinade for who knows how long. The Short Rib was greasy, flavorless and again had probably been sitting in that marinade for a long while as well. I didnt get half-way through the plate before I threw it out, completely disgusted. I also got some Spam fried rice, nothing spectacular either. Totally a sad experience… It is apparent why the dining area is empty, especially on a Saturday night… Ho-hum… 1 star for the canned sprite not being expired…

Hawaiian Breeze I’ve driven by this place several times, but I never tried. Finally, I came here with a friend on a Thursday night. Since 2 restaurants and 1 bar shared a kitchen, you will be able to order sushi from the other restaurant there(they have sushi menu on the table too) Location: It’s in Wallingford neighborhood on 45th and Wallingford. If you come here during weekdays, parking shouldn’t be a problem. I found a parking spot just right around the corner from the restaurant. It wasn’t too bad. Décor: There’s a tikki bar looking counter just below the big screen TV. There are about 5 – 7 tables in the restaurant. It’s a very cozy place with a bit Hawaiian style decoration and some mixed Japanese style decoration. Food: I had the Benton box(choice of BBQ chicken or short ribs marinated in Hawaiian Breeze’s secret 15 ingredient BBQ marinade served with fried mahi mahi, shrimp, spam, macaroni salad, rice and miso soup) My favorite in the box was actually the short ribs. The marinate was really good. They loaded up on ribs. I had to give about half of my ribs to my friend since I can’t finish all by myself. My friend had kalua pork(Shredded smoked pork with or without cabbage served with rice and macaroni salad.) I had a bite of it. I thought the flavor was good. I liked the smoked flavor. Service: They may not have the best service. But, it wasn’t be bad either. The server was able to deliver what we wanted.

We were visiting my boyfriend’s family in Seattle, and his brother used to come here all the time and decided to take us here for dinner. This place is definitely laid back, and the staff remembers their regulars. Food came out a bit slowly but I think it’s because they just opened up a sushi place around the corner and share both staff and a kitchen. However, that means you can order sushi here, too! I got their bento box($ 15) with short ribs, and there was a TON of food! Also, their iced tea was very sweet and fruity, which went well with the meal. The short ribs were so juicy and delicious, and they have the best macaroni salad I’ve had so far. They also seemed to have turned me on to Spam, since I’m now craving it! Mmm, overall, super tasty and affordable. Would definitely come back if I didn’t live in California!

If you want a Hawaiian experience like no other then this is the place to go. While Seattle might be popular for their rain Hawaiian Breeze will bring in sunlight through their dishes. Coming from the Bay Area I’m used to the overpopulated Hawaiian restaurants like L&L Hawaiian Barbecue. This place blows them out of the water. The food is fresh and much more appetizing here compared to L&L. They make the food to order instead having pre-made food items. The owner is very pleasant to talk to and quite funny. A must dine experience.

Hawaiian Breeze is a sitdown restaurant offering Hawaiian plate lunch favorites. It offers up a slightly more proper dining experience compared to the L&L chain and Hawaii BBQ down the road in the U-District. But it still feels relatively casual. The island décor and giant flat screen TV is indication of this. I stopped in for lunch on a weekday which are a few bucks lower than for dinner and on weekends here. Not sure if the portions are larger then, but being a Hawaii native, it just feels weird paying more than $ 10 for this type of fare. I decided to go with the Hawaiian barbecue mix which is a combo of short ribs and barbecue chicken($ 8.50). These standards are the items I use to determine whether a Hawaiian barbecue place is good or not. After watching ESPN for a bit, my meal was served. It curiously was served with an orchid as decoration for a nice touch. My thoughts overall on the barbecue is that it is really good here. Pretty clear that the meat is marinated to perfection. The barbecue chicken was excellent. Short ribs were decent too. There is a lot of sweetness going on here though. I think a little more cabbage slaw to soak up the sauce would have been good. The macaroni salad is great here too. I think it is arguably my favorite version of all of the places that I have tried in the Seattle area. I like the food at Hawaiian Breeze. The barbecue here is very reminiscent of the fare that I find back in Hawaii. If you are looking for a sitdown authentic Hawaiian barbecue experience, Hawaiian Breeze is a good option.

Working nearby and walking past this place daily, I can honestly say I didn’t even notice this place until the smell hit me during one recent walk for lunch. I skidded to a halt and went in and now have a new favorite place for Hawaiian in town. First, the food. At $ 8.50, the BBQ mix is the way to go as it comes with two short ribs, bbq chicken, rice, and mac salad. The short ribs are perfectly cooked and very well flavored. The bbq chicken is out of this world, and I’m not one to order chicken unless its fried. My only complaint is I think the mac salad is a little overboard on the mayo, but that could just be because I’m an easy mayo kind of guy. Next, the service. The owner(?) is a middle aged lady who is super nice and really fun to talk to. I really like coming in here and feel like they remember you when you come in more than once. Finally, the atmosphere. I think if the food wasn’t so good, I’d bump this place down one star on the atmosphere side. I think restaurants should really try to keep their windows as clear of ads and whatnot as possible and never put blinds over the doors. I like to see inside and I think this really contributed to my not seeing the place the first few times I walked by. Also, the inside is pretty sleepy/quiet and they could use some music other than the DVD that they usually play. They should take a cue from their new sushi restaurant around the corner, Shima as far as interiors go. Overall, I love this place and its my go to spot for lunch or Hawaiian.

Optimal for a spot of saimin noodle soup. But just don’t let the blind hanging on the front door grab you as you enter. It’s like a Venus flytrap and won’t let you go. You know when you have a cold and, even though you’re not down and out for the count in bed, you still can’t move. Well, that was me, so I didn’t make it out to lunch at Hawaiian Breeze until four in the afternoon. Fortunately, Hawaiian was open, even if I was the only customer. Service was impeccable. I started out with the fried shrimp for an appetizer. Hey, how can you go wrong with an appetizer barely over $ 3? The plate of five shrimp was perfectly fine, nicely adorned with a violet lotus-like flower and a tasty dipping sauce. You can get the Saimin noodle soup with Portuguese sausage or chicken. I went with chicken. Excellent. The carrots, cabbage and broccoli in the soup were cooked perfectly. Chicken and broth were delicious. And without a head cold, I wonder how much even better this soup would have tasted! In addition to other typical Hawaiian dishes, sushi was available. They have dessert too.

I liked this place so much that I am writing my first review. This place is really kid-friendly, and the food is very good, and reasonably priced. My son is allergic to alot of things, including wheat, which is in soy sauce so that ruled out most things on the menu except kahlua pork. When we told our server about the allergies, he brought out the very nice woman who made the food to tell us our options. It turns out that she has alot of customers with wheat allergies, and makes a five-spiced chicken that is not on the menu especially for them. It was really good!, and she substituted fries instead of the mac salad, and they were really good too! I had the loco moco with two eggs. Although the gravy is a bit darker than I’m used too, it is the best one that I have had in quite a long while. I will definitely be back to order the loco moco. My wife had the short ribs, they were really tasty too. A little chewy, but still quite tasty and delicious. Overall excellent food, grilled to perfection, and a quality experience. I can’t wait to go back!!! Oh yeah, they have shaved ice too! This is the reason that we went. I didn’t know they even had food until we got there. Kinda funny. :-)
