Hertz Rent A Car

We went on a Norwegian cruise line Alaska cruise. The Marriott is located right across the street from the dock and was extremely convenient for Hertz rental car drop offs and pick ups. Dropping off our rental car went quickly and smoothly with no problems. Picking up a new car when we got back from the cruise was NOT a good experience. They were short on customer service reps (shouldn’t they have extra people working when the cruise is going out and coming in to dock?) and short on cars (ditto?). We had a long line with one representative working the desk. They had a sign up that we would be charged an extra fee for the valet of approximately $ 10. This was not on our written estimate. The rep claimed it was on the website, but no one in our line had seen it and one customer looking on his i-​phone said it was not there. When we got our car it was dirty inside (food on floor) and especially outside (bird poop all over). The front windshield was hard to see out of. After driving away we noticed the low on air tire light was on. We dropped off at the Seattle Airport and they were nice and efficient there (very quick). They offered to file a complaint, but I said I would write a letter to Hertz. It took them 8 weeks to get a response with a typical form letter apology. Apparently Hertz is short-​handed at their headquarters customer service department too…
