Hilltop Red Apple Market

Always the best experience with friendly staff that seem to grow lately in confidence. At the hot food station you will find the best in fresh and friendly staff. Beyond generous portions and it seems they scoop what they would want in their dish out of the hot table. I love seeing the Red Apple Staff and giving my patronage every time.

I left my credit card at home tonight and just tried to pay for my groceries with a $ 30.00 check with proper ID and they took my check and looked it up on some system they have there and said it was a code 2, denied. I have over 35 grand in my checking account and never have written a bad check! I live 4 blocks away and have shopped at Hilltop once or twice a week for 40 years. From now on I’m driving down to QFC. ps. get a new check checking system cause yours isn’t working.

This is my local neighborhood grocery store.
Pros:
Location: Very convenient location that is accessible to different public transportation. It is located across from the Beacon Hill light rail station. Lots of parking available.
Service: All the staffs are very friendly and helpful. The checker who assisted me, his name is Ryan, was very fast and efficient so there wasn’t a long wait at each check stand.
Quality: I shop here mainly for their fresh produce. The produce section is always well stocked and kept clean. I cannot recall a time where I was disappointed in any of their items. I find that their quality is similar, if not better, than the products of QFC down the hill. Efren, Mapo and Joseph are the main guys that managed the produce area. They each are very knowledgeable with the items that they carry. Their products are also very organic-​friendly, catering to a mass amount of local shoppers in this area. They also have a variety of beautiful-​fresh flower arrangements. Beware, they get very busy during Valentines Day and Mothers Day. I suggest that you come early or pre order the flowers so they do not run out. There are some ethnic items that you would not find at chain grocery stores.
Deli: The have a great deli section. The Chinese food is made fresh daily and is actually very good! I’m always skeptical about Chinese deli food but they uphold a higher quality than those you would get from stores like Safeway. They also have excellent fried chicken. Their meat is moist and tender with a well-​seasoned light batter. I am not a fan of heavy-​battered greasy fried chicken. They make theirs just right.
Events: They are a community driven local store. Special events for the local shoppers take place throughout the year. Around Christmas time, Santa Claus makes an appearance for photo opportunities. This is a great alternative if you want to avoid the long lines at the mall. Around Easter, an egg hunt is set up for the kids with generous gifts given out. Not to mention the Easter Bunny also makes a special appearance. During the summer, they hold a tent event displaying all the different fruits and veggies selling for a fraction of their normal price. The different types of events can uplift the community spirit.
CONS:
Price: Some of their items can be a bit pricey but then you always gotta pay a little more for better quality.

Good specials on fish but everything else is $ 2 – 5 too expensive. It’s mostly a last resort, I try to get produce at the vegetable stand. It is union though, so that’s good.

This has to be the best close-​to-​home market for us. The selection is great and the service is fast. I am pleased to say I that this market has to be pretty clean for the location of it but it has to be in part due to the amazing staff here. The ONLY odd thing I’ve witnessed here was late one night when we went to check on the dough nut selection in their bakery, someone went through all the dough nuts and took one or two bites out of them and that is DISGUSTING!!! After that I noticed they put cameras on that part of the store which is awesome because EW!!!

Great neighborhood store. I love that it’s walkable, vey accessible to bus and light rail, decent sized parking lot and variety of foods, including ‘ethnic’ (Hispanic, Asian, but not really much Indian (as in no frozen entrees). Great chilled beer aisle, fresh and varied and produce, Chinese take out in deli, enticing fried chicken aroma pumped into street and nice staff. People say that it is more expensive but we aren’t talking Whole Paycheck $$$ and for being accessible and local makes it a go to for us.

Great deli that serves fried chicken and other southern comfort; also a Chinese deli that also provides catering. Everyone is really friendly and definitely have a family business atmosphere.

I very rarely come in here due to the prices. The people and location are the only thing that makes this place redeemable. It’s right across from the Beacon Hill light rail station.
Their deli is pretty good, nothing to write home about. You’re better off going a little ways down the road to the actual restaurants though.

The folks that work here are super friendly. Red Apple has a generally small selection of last minute items. Sometimes they are cheaper on certain things, and way pricey on others. They do have a good sale here and there, you just have to know what to buy. If you shop around or live close by its worth keeping an eye out for a deal. It gets really busy at rush hours, so avoid the crowd. It’s a small store.

This is a nice little local store located in Beacon Hill.
My husband and I were staying at our Air BnB house, and this store was super close by.
It’s right across from a light-​rail station and two bus stops.
We came in on game day (49ers vs. Hawks) and they had the game BLARING over the intercom. That made me smile. Seattle-​ites (is that the correct term?) know how to show their pride!
The prices seem to be reasonable; the store offers national and store branded items. There is a deli in the rear of the store, a wine/​liquor section, and a meat counter (if my memory serves me correctly).
Oh! They have a Chinese hot food section. AMAZING! It looked SO good; I was sad that we didn’t have enough time for a taste test!

The local store from my old hood… Ah how I miss you Beacon Hill.
They all knew me there back in my baby years. I was «Boo.» One of my family members used to work there, so everyone knew who me and my family were. I remember running around the store laughing and running into people. Hell, I still do that now at 26! But ok ok… you want a review, don’t you?
They have one hell of a deli. Their fried chicken is pretty good, but my one weakness will always be their corn dogs and pizza pockets. Let me tell you child, they be delicious! And ya know what? Right next door is their «Chinatown Café.» What do I suggest from here? Their black pepper chicken. It’s tasty and probably one of the best entrees you can get. Lets say this. I’ll eat at this place over Panda Express all day every day. No lie. And willingly eat it any other time i’m too darn lazy to cook.
They have a great selection of produce. I haven’t been let down yet. Good fruits and veggies… to go along with your STEAK! Yes they got some good cuts of steak here. Prices can be a tricky little thing. but sometimes, all you want is some steak with a ice cold beer and a salad. But you can’t make friends with salad. So you get GREEN BEANS!
This store holds fun events throughout the year for its customers, and its always a fun time for the children’s. Be on the lookout every couple months. With the holidays being right around the corner, there’s probably a fun coloring contest for the little ones!
Plus not that long ago, they remodeled the store. It now has more of a modern feel to it.
But last but not least… Go see Marie at the service counter. She usually works mornings and she is probably one of the friendliest ladies you’re ever gonna meet. She always has something fun to share and she is just a sweetheart. She has been working here for years and she’ll meet you once and remember who you are after that. Excellent service.

Hilltop Red Apple is a friendly neighborhood market. It’s the only grocery store on Beacon Hill, so it is very convenient for BEHI locals. The meat selection isn’t that great, so I typically drop down the hill to QFC when I need a better meat & poultry selection. Other than that, they seem to have what I need. The prices are a bit higher since they have the market cornered on the Hill, but I’m willing to pay for the convenience and invest in our community. I’d hate to lose this store.

This is a great local supermarket, and is really helpful when you want to pick up a few things but don’t want to travel to one of the larger supermarket chains. When they have sales, the prices tend to be quite good. They had wild salmon on sale recently for a very good price. For items like bread, they seem to rotate which type they have on sale fairly regularly, so there will probably be a sale on the one you want if you wait a while and watch for the sale. They have a good variety of products for sale, including some unusual ones.
However, their prices on some basic items can be a bit high. I wouldn’t buy peanut butter here, for example. Be sure you know what a reasonable price for the item you want is, and go elsewhere if it happens to be overpriced here.

The Red Apple Market on Beacon Hill is not my local store, but I pass by it on occasion when I am in the neighborhood and I always stop for fresh fruit. The apples and strawberries that I get there always seem to be sweeter than the ones available at the larger chains.
Generally parking is pretty easy, even though the lot has no driveways from the main road, a minor inconvenience, but no big deal. Employees are friendly and helpful. It’s a small market, but has a reasonable selection and can rival any bigger grocery on organic produce and meats.

I usually come by at night on the occasion after work for munchies, the Bolthouse vanilla chai and sometimes the fusion burritos from the back (North African, Roasted Veggie, etc). Good place to shop and am glad they stay open (usually?) until 11pm.

Hilltop is a convenient place to pick up something quick if you don’t want to head down the hill to Rainier. They don’t really have any competition for boxed goods so their prices are generally higher, so for fresh items go to Seattle Supermarket or McPhersons for a better deal. They hire local kids so that’s kind of nice.
An interesting aside… Lots of Asian and Mexican peeps buy their lotto tickets here.
There seem to be a lot more homeless looking criminal types around now that light rail has a stop across the street, so just keep an eye out lest you appear to an easy target.

This is the only place I know of right now that sells my favorite Top Ramen!!! Creamy Chicken Noodle. Haha, this place is reliable for my top ramen!
This place is pretty nice and I have been coming here for years. I love this location but I also love the location on Jackson. both are friendly, good quality products, meat, produce and their selections are great.
My favorite part about Red Apple is their hot foods. Mm. They have delicious Chinese food, as well as fried chicken, jojo’s, and other hot foods. Their hot wings are good too. It’s cheap, and good quality.

Red Apple Market is the jam! It’s the closest new grocery store to my house and now I split my shopping between Red Apple and QFC depending on what I need.
Their produce section is great and their ethnic aisles are the real deal. I’ve been buying random things I’ve never seen/​tried and shaking things up in my kitchen!
The checkers kind of seem like they’re always in a bad mood, but if you’ve ever been grocery shopping in Europe it’s not quite as bad as that. So, I just suck it up and pretend I’m grocery shopping in Italy.

This use to be called Hilltop but now is call Red Apple Market but still here competing against the big boy chains. so yeah, I am a fan of this place.
Our neighborhood only non-​club grocery store like someone has mention and it has a nice selection in the deli/​hot asian food in the back on the store. I come here mostly for the fried chicken… best deal meal ($ 5) in town or nice prepare dessert pie for $ 9.99 that I can pickup for a dinner party in a jiffy.
Also, this place carry speciality stuff that I can not find at QFC, ABC, Traders Joe like Mum Mum… delicious healthy rice crackers that my daughter loves.
Yeah, you are paying more here but you will get the best customer service in return.

This was the 2^nd stop on a min-​quest of mine to find particular Argentinean food. I was told by a little mexican merchant nearby that I may have more luck there.
The supermarket was nice — lots of great food and fresh produce. I only wish they were carrying what I was looking for. I’m noticing that the only latin foods carried in the Seattle area is Mexian — no South American faire.
