We went here for our anniversary brunch and although the staff had no idea, they did a great job of kicking off the day. We had called the day before and that didn’t have any reservations available, but they told us to show up around opening and they can get you seated in the patio/bar seating without much trouble usually. We were excited about this as we would prefer to sit on the patio when it is nice in Seattle anyway. We got there about 15 minutes after they opened and the place was packed, but they managed to fit us in within about 10 minutes. The food was great and the server(sorry I don’t remember his name) was a lot of fun. There was an error in our order, but the our server immediately recognized it, let us keep snacking on the wrong dish and brought us the correct one when it was ready along with a round of free drinks to make up for it. Overall it was fun, the food was good and it just felt like a wonderful, comfortable place to be, we will certainly be going back.

I was really excited about this place. The menu looks great here on Unilocal… But I was sadly disappointed. We started with the soup of the day which was a spices Moroccan soup. It honestly tasted like an explosion of spices in hot water with chickpeas. It was an overwhelming flavor without any substance to anchor it down. We also had the Diablo Shrimp to start. It was actually very good! The sauce was great but the amount of shrimp was lacking. Maybe only 5 medium/smallish ones I think mixed in with a couple chucks of andouille sausage with a polenta cake. For entrees I had the pasta meat bolognese. It had large flat rectangle shaple pasta pieces with a very lacking sauce. There was barely any sauce for that matter and it was horribly bland. It could’ve used some of the spices from the soup! I only had my 5 bites, each hoping the next would taste better. It could have been great… Sad miss.

I agree with the reviewer who called the menu«confused.» I couldn’t spot an overarching theme & the cuisine was not what I expected from the description. That being said, most of our party enjoyed their dishes. The roast chicken was especially fantastic, as were the specialty cocktails. My beet salad left much to be desired, consisting mostly of your generic grocery store type mixed greens and what tasted like Planter’s dry roasted nuts. The beets were not«roasted, shaved & pickled» as described on the menu; they were chunks of what appeared to be boiled beets. The baguette I ordered on the side was stale, and not particularly warm. The biggest issue here however was the service. We visited on a Friday night and the restaurant was at half-capacity. The waitstaff seemed overwhelmed, and everything took ages… taking our order, bringing our drinks, food, check, etc. Had it been very crowded I would have been more understanding, but it just seemed like they were understaffed. We may go back for the roast chicken(it was that good), but only once I’m confident they’ve addressed their staffing issues.

Went here randomly on a Thursday and they just happened to have Dine Around Seattle going on. I got the 3 course meal with the 3 wine parings(for an extra fee). The good was great but our original waitress seemed overwhelmed when there wasn’t very many people to help. We were waiting for 10 minutes for our first wine paring after we got our food. A man who I assume was a manager/owner took over after that and he was fantastic and had great customer service. Overall a good atmosphere and food.

When I came here, I was disappointed. I’ve walked by on sunny weekend afternoons and seen the place bustling with people. I’ve been here for lunch once and dinner another time because I had a gift card. Like some of the other people said, I was kind of uncomfortable that I had previously mentioned Hunger being busy on the weekends/recommended it to friends prior to actually coming here. The first time I came here was for one of the 3-course lunch meals for $ 15. It was dead in there when we walked in and got seated right away. We ordered drinks and when they both came, mine was definitely not at the full drink level in the martini glass. My first course was a tomato soup with beans and although the soup was warm, the beans tasted raw, tough and cold like they hadn’t been cooked together. Second course was a half sandwich with some cream sauce on it… how could that be not good? It was fine. Then I ordered the cheese plate as my dessert. My friend got the goat cheese cheesecake and that was really good too. This tells me that the restaurant can do certain things well but not everything on it’s menu… figure out your identity! The second time I went in, we all split a bottle of wine. I ordered the paella and it is a definite pass. I know paella is hard to make. But if you know you can’t make it, then don’t have it on your menu. Showcase what you’re good at right?(Sorry, marketer at heart.) But my friend ordered something else and asked the waiter if they could add tomatoes, diced to her dish and the waiter responded«Sorry, but we don’t have any.» WHODOESN’T HAVETOMATOES? All-in-all very weird experiences here and now that I don’t live in Fremont, I don’t have an excuse to be caught there.

Came here with a huge(more than 20 people) party last night and I was blown away. It is SO difficult to provide excellent food and service to such a big group and Hunger did a spectacular job. Everyone at my table was raving about the dishes; I had the pork belly and the risotto. The proportions were generous. Our waitress kept the drinks coming and water jugs refreshed(with more attentiveness than at other restaurants when it’s just two people). I really don’t know how they pulled it off!!! Highly recommend Hunger — after 4 visits, I don’t have a single bad thing to say!

I came here on a groupon a while back and I really liked a lot of things about this place. I remember our service was really good, our server gave us some very good suggestions. The ambience was splendid, an improvement on the use of space from the previous establishment(can’t remember what this place used to be). The food was delicious and fairly priced for the experience and quality you were getting. I did hear they do a bottomless mimosa. Someone please correct me but this sounds like a must-have deal!

I had to update because after wandering Fremont on Sunday only to find most of the brunch spots way too busy — we settled on Hunger primarily because there was no wait. I’m glad we did, because OMG, one of the best brunches I’ve had in a while. I ordered Grandma’s Brisket, which was almost kind of like an eggs benedict with brisket. I thought it was a tad pricey for brunch, but after enjoying the food so much it was totally worth it. They also have a $ 14 cinnamon roll that sounded spectacular, but I exhibited rare self control and did not order it. They also have bottomless mimosas for those of you interested.

After 18 months we stopped by for our second visit, again during the day on a Saturday. Sat at the bar for a wine and snacks. Red house wine was a Tempranillo from Spain — better than the Montana red of our first visit. Cheese plate was excellent, with a choice of soft and hard, as well as cow, goat, and sheep. 4 star service. Music — nary a bad tune, and at a volume that didn’t interfere with conversation. Third Eye Blind, and other 90s music.

First off, the outside décor to this restaurant is highly deceiving. While it gives off a grungy and dark appearance, Hunger is in fact rather cute and cozy inside. We came on a Thursday when the restaurant was decently empty and were comfortably seated in the back in a setting perfect for a few friends getting together to catch up. My sister and I shared the risotto and the burger, both of which were amazing. Both of these entrees were on the larger portion size, and it was more than enough food for the two of us and we had plenty of leftovers. I loved the risotto, but would definitely recommend splitting this dish since it is incredibly rich and heavy on the cheese. The burger was also great, and I especially liked the brioche bun, but I thought the cheese could have been melted better as it didn’t really blend with the burger at all. My only complaint is that I thought that our waiter came off a too aggressive. He seemed to be pushing us a little too hard to order drinks which we weren’t in the mood for, and then made a passive aggressive comment about us not splitting the bill after we’d initially asked for separate checks. Other than that, I actually really enjoyed Hunger and would definitely go back again!

These guys know how to do brunch. They even have a menu item«hangover breakfast», which you can have while working on your next hangover with the bottomless mimosas. And they aren’t kidding about the bottomless part. Great food, awesome atmosphere, wonderful service, bottomless mimosas. How can you go wrong?!

Wow, this was a really disappointing experience all around. From the start, when they told us we didn’t have a reservation(even though we did) to the overly chatty server who wouldn’t stop talking to us(it was almost comical). The menu had an identity crisis with so many different cuisine types that I couldn’t tell what this place was supposed to be. The final blow was that one of our dishes(duck of all things) came out lukewarm. The waiter took it back but by then, we were so disappointed by our experience.

I bookmarked this place having read about it in one of the various Seattle Met food articles awhile ago, but can’t remember which highlighted dish made me want to try this spot. Reflecting on my experience and perusing the menu again, I’m thinking it was probably a pork belly brunch dish that inspired the bookmark. In any event, we came here for dinner on a Friday evening and surprisingly the restaurant was pretty dead. Our server was also surprised by this lack of activity, but was a generally upbeat person, making our experience(service-wise) pleasant. His service deserves 4 stars, the food/drinks 2, making the overall rating a 3. Starting off with drinks, I was recommended the Manolo Blahnik and being a shoe girl, took the bait quickly. Bad move. It was very tart(disclaimer — I’m a tart-wuss) and had faint but distinct aromas of vomit. Hated it. My beau nicknamed the drink Manolo Vomit. Quite apt. To the server’s credit, at the end of the meal he noticed my lack of interest in it and offered another on the house. This is great service! I don’t turn down free drinks so I asked for another less tart option, can’t remember what I ended up with(some cognac blend), but it was decent enough without complaints but unfortunately not memorable(obviously) either. Our server insisted that we would miss out on life if we didn’t try the stuffed dates. With a recommendation this grand, we took him up on the offer. It was stuffed with chorizo and served with a side of «bleu cheese ice cream». Creative, but I felt the execution could have been better with the bleu cheese concept(it melted away quickly and made it difficult to integrate it with the dates). The stuffing was good enough, but without the cheese to cut the sweetness, the dates itself were slightly overwhelming. I was highly disappointed in my entrée — the crab risotto with corn and pork belly. I could barely discern the pork belly, the risotto was entirely mediocre, and it was topped with a deep fried soft shell crab which was okay but I think pieces of normal crab would have folded into the risotto more satisfactorily. I love risotto but found this dish entirely lackluster, and that broke my heart just a shard. In sum, I probably won’t come back for dinner or drinks, but I might try it out for brunch one day.

Sooooo we were hungry. Ahem. It was a pleasant afternoon, so we decided to take advantage of the Healing Powers of Vitamin D and sat outside on the patio. The sound system was pumping some Tears For Fears when we got there(thumbs up) and switched to some downtempo shortly after(also a thumbs up). Our waiter(unfortunately I’ve forgotten his name) appeared shortly with drink and entrée menus, and listed off the specials as well as his faves for the evening. For cocktails we ordered a Dark & Stormy for me and a Manolo Blahnik for my SO. My drink tasted fine… however I dunno if it was my gf’s sensitivity to tartness or what, but the Manolo did not please. I had a sip and it DID taste pretty sour; not very fun to drink I would think. Our waiter noticed this and asked if she’d like a replacement on the house. She eventually went with the East India Cocktail which was more to her liking. Crisis averted! Stuffed dates were first up for our appetizer. Very chewy and sweet, with a great texture, and paired extremely well with the blue cheese ice cream on the side(who woulda thought?). My main thought with this small dish, while it was good, was that it might have made for a decent dessert instead! It possibly would be too heavy for that though. Our entrees arrived shortly: crab risotto for her(ordered pretty much ’cause she saw«pork belly» in the ingredients) and swordfish for me(one of the specials for that evening, not on the menu). My dish looked great: a generous portion of swordfish atop a bed of basmati rice and adorned with sauce, topped with a bit of coconut and pineapple. The swordfish was cooked well, not dry or overdone, but I think it was the sauce that brought out the best qualities of the fish’s flavor which I don’t believe was that strong or distinctive on its own. In all a pretty good meal which I’d order again(it came down to either this dish or the paella for me). I also sampled some of my SO’s risotto. As expected, it was pretty heavy and dense and flavorful. The crab was a welcome taste contrast to the rice. I didn’t really detect any pork belly in the dish though. Maybe we’d misheard the waiter? I think I’d recommend the risotto more for winter, as a comfort food. I mean it was enjoyable but perhaps it was a bit too heavy for the weather/occasion. No problems with service; I actually quite liked our friendly person, who cracked jokes, seemed quite knowledgeable about the menu. and checked up on us enough times without seeming to hover. I also appreciated the fact that when we asked him to put the risotto in a box, he did so and came back with«Hunger | Risotto | 08÷23» written on the top of it. I thought that was a pretty nice detail. OTHERRESTAURANTS, TAKENOTE. Overall a nice complete experience with decent(although pricey) food, excellent service and a great atmosphere.

In short — whatever… Long version — cool décor, quick service. The service was very good. But the food is very expensive for what it really tastes like. We did the bottomless mimosa and the eggs for brunch. This place only has only 2 options for vegetarians(note, this place has nothing for brunch for vegans). Overall, the food wasn’t bad or anything, but it isn’t anything to rave about or drive to get to.

Came here for brunch and though we did not take advantage of the all-you-can-drink-mimosa deal, we did have a kick in for the food. We ordered the baguette with harissa butter and salt, the carnivores hash, and the smoked salmon eggs benedict. I did not really want to fill up on bread on butter, but the harissa butter was VERY tasty. The Tunisian hot chili that’s put in the butter was balanced well so it was not too spicy. The carnivores hash is just about my favorite so far because the flavors of the ingredients blended well with the spices and the fresh arugula balanced out the heat enough for me not to feel numb. Lastly, I’m not a huge fan of eggs benedict, but I LOVE smoked salmon. I thought the dish ended my meal perfectly. Throw in a wash of mimosa every few minutes and I call it good. Our waitress, Shelby(yes, just like the car) was very friendly and knew exactly what was in our dish. Although new to Seattle, she fit right in to the vibes of Seattle and the restaurant. I was absolutely digging the décor and ambiance of the restaurant. Even the manager was very professional looking and just something about it all plus the perfect weather was all too refreshing in my mind. Overall, Hunger adds a very good touch to the City of Fremont. My friend and I loved our experience there and hope to venture over again. (Last note: Do remember to make reservations because though it looks rather large, spots fill up quick!)

I frequent the area quite a bit so I was pretty excited to see Hunger open up on the corner. My first opportunity arose at a Unilocal Elite Event in December 2012. As part of an Ugly Sweater Soirée, Hunger opened its doors to Elites dressed in all kinds of sweaters(I say sweaters because I thought mine was ugly and apparently, it’s not). I won’t review the event; I only recap it because there was a Twitter contest that I won and received a $ 25 gift certificate for future use. The space was even more beautiful on a sunny Saturday than on a dark December night. The sunlight hit the woodwork and ornate decorations in just the right places. I’m a bit of a nerd and really liked the water glasses that were of an interesting shape with curves here and there that again, played off the sunlight in a majestic sort of way. That day, I decided to go for brunch. It was within an hour of opening and I was pleased that it was not overly crowded. The menu was a little limited but everything looked great. I had the chicken and the egg. The base was a layer of seasoned, homefries, topped with greens. What I liked about the greens is that they were cooked well, but not chopped up, but rather kept in larger strips(and since it was cooked with bacon, well, I really can’t complain). On the greens, was a piece of buttermilk fried, boneless, free range chicken, topped with a poached egg, and hollandaise sauce made from scratch. I am not a hollandaise fan, but I liked this sauce! Take it from me, get a piece of everything — they are meant to be eaten together. Standing alone, the chicken could have been seasoned better but again, if you eat a bit of everything, it’s perfect. My companion ordered the Wimpy, which is sort of a sloppy joe on white bread. The flavors were good but the bread was definitely a fail — breaking up into a soggy mess, even when eating it with a fork. Heartier bread could serve it well and an added twist on a classic like slopping joe would make the dish more interesting overall. The side salad that came with it was fantastic, specifically, the dressing was really good. The hostess/waitress was friendly. I was surprised during my meal when one of the owners came by to say hello. He said that he hadn’t seen me in before and just wanted to stop by to chat. That’s very cool! I appreciated that because some owners would be content to sit in the back of the restaurant instead of engaging with their customers. A very nice surprise. I love that I have strong opinions about food and Hunger has tested those opinions. I couldn’t imagine a world in which I would not only eat hollandaise sauce, but like it. What will they test me with next?

I like Hunger a lot. This is one of my go-to places in Fremont for a nice cocktail. My favorite is their Maple Old Fashioned which is delicious. The bartenders are friendly and so is the owner(?)/manager(?). They have good food, too! I really like their paella. The décor is sultry and gorgeous. I love the light fixtures. One thing I wish is that they had a couple more veggie friendly options on the menu. It is very carnivore-heavy. I’ll be back again and again!

I came here for brunch with my boyfriend. I had heard of so many great things of Hunger, but maybe brunch is not the time to come here. It felt stuffy inside at Hunger. The breakfast selection was limited and pricey, and not the most tasty breakfast. Service was iffy and slow. We were disappointed as we live in Fremont, and thought this could be somewhere we would go regularly.

With a name like«Carnivores Hash», I would expect heaping portions of meat upon meat. This misnomer does not suit the dish served. As you may already know, I am a sucker for corned beef hash and I’ll go anywhere to find this«buried treasure». Unfortunately, the inappropriate terms used here, namely Hunger(the restaurant) and Carnivore(meat eater), misled me. Carnivores Hash. A description of braised boar, house sausage, bacon, potato, mushroom, onion, poached eggs and greens topped with Hollandaise sauce was too hard to resist. At first glance(a pile of greens on top of skillet potatoes and sneak peek of boar), looks so delicious. Push aside those greens, the poached egg and about 2.3 minuscule bits of meat were detected. 75% potatoes, 10% egg, 10% greens and 5% meat is hardly meat eater material. Taste-wise, nothing out of the ordinary and at an undesirable price @ $ 14. The chicken and the egg, also @ $ 14 — Buttermilk Fried chicken, braised bacon greens, homefries, poached egg and Hollandaise. The Hollandaise sauce masked the fact that the single poached egg was even bigger than the thin piece of chicken. Again, a repeat theme with 70.1% of this dish consisting of purely POTATOES. I broached this issue with management and they responded with another measly 2.5 pieces of braised boar. The right restaurant name based on this experience should be Potato Palace.
