Ideal Pet Stop

I went to the new Kent location on opening day and although initially the was a hiccup with service I was contacted within the hour after posting my experience. Not only was the lady, manager?, apologetic she was actually embarrassed by what happened, long story short in the end I found the store clean and well stocked. The lady that helped me was very knowledgable and explained the products very well. I will definitely return even though its a bit of a drive for me and I pass numerous other pet stores on the way

Great store! The people who work there are very kind and helpful! I love that they are careful about what products they carry and the ingredients in their products. The pet food they sell is all very high quality. I am a fan!

Decided to find a more natural/​organic alternative to normal dog food and gave this place a shot. I was followed around the store like a delinquent and the dry food (which I expected to be pricier) that I purchased spoiled. Yes. SPOILED within the first two weeks of purchase. Expiration date read FEB 2016. It is currently AUG. 4^th. 2015.

Ideal Pet has been our pet supply store for 15 years. We’ve had birds, reptiles and of course dogs. If it weren’t for Shelly we’d have stopped using Ideal. Shelly is knowledgable, has good customer skills and goes the extra mile. Her leaving will be Ideal’s loss, she’s been there quite a while and knows the folks and their pets who are regulars.

I’ve since heard from management, and it sounds like the issue has been resolved. Hooray! Shop away, folks — you’re gonna love this place!

Ideal Pet Stop is a great neighborhood store. So easy for me to get to. Shelly, who has been there at least five years is really helpful and friendly. Lots of product to choose from.

Not too thrilled about my experience there. I went to get some sort of bandage or diaper for my dog because he was bleeding near his groin. The lady suggested I buy the disposable diapers as opposed to the reusable because they were cheaper. I thought it was kind of weird she said that but decided to be optimistic about it and decided to think she was just trying to be nice. I told her I had a giant German Shepherd and that we needed the biggest diapers because he was 149lbs. She assured me that my dog wasn’t that size (even though I just had my dog weighed recently at the vet) and told me to go for the smaller package.
Well on the bright side she told me if they were too small I could return them if I could find a way to measure my dogs waist and see if the diapers she recommended were too small.
However the part that made me have an issue was when I was looking at the dog cookies and saw a Seahawks dog biscuit. She assured me that they were too expensive. I asked the price and she told me it was $ 2.99. That was the second time she told me something was too expensive for me to purchase. I felt extremely offended by this, I was unaware I looked as though I couldn’t afford a dog biscuit for $ 2.99. I love supporting small businesses, and don’t mind spending the extra money to keep places like this going but this is one place I’d rather not stop by ever again.

I love that the pet store is conveniently located across from PCC, they have the food my cats love as well as lots of treats/​toys. I always enjoy visiting with either of the two ladies that are working when I go in, they are always friendly with me and they have a lot of excellent knowledge to share. Ideal is right!

Went in for the first time last night, and will not be back. My wife and I along with our new dog, Nugget, went in last night to get Nugget a new chew toy. We went in ~5 mins before they close and were intending to be in there for a grand total of 1 min to buy a new toy. We were promptly met with «uhhhh, guys, I’m closing…». There were other patrons in the store, but we immediately left.
For a place whose business plan, I assume, relies on selling people things, they sure don’t care much about staying in business. This is too bad since we live a few blocks away. Believe the other reviews, customer service here sucks.
I would MUCH rather give my $$ to Mud Bay.

A very small store directly across from PCC, Ideal Pet store gives 10% discounts of cases of food, which I really like. They are competitive with prices from the big guys (Petco, etc), have a good selection despite the store’s small space and rarely have a long line.
Not the happiest of employees, you won’t get a giant smile when you walk in or small talk, but if you need a good deal, this is a great place to go.

It’s crammed and small, but they have the dog food that my dog likes best (Taste of the Wild) that PetSmart or other big chains don’t have. Not just a dog place, they have stuff for lizards too since they have 2 Bearded Dragons in the window.

Good products, friendly staff, and decent prices. My dogs love the place:)

I’ve been in here for a new leash, bag holder, harness, and also for a recommendation on carpet cleaner (since my dog is now on the older side). They seem to have a pretty wide array of prices and I usually go for the median priced things. They also have a well stocked, quality inventory.
Every time I’ve been into the shop, the employees have been super helpful and knowledgable about the products I’ve inquired about and have suggested products that I am very satisfied with. I am happy supporting a great local shop like this and will continue to go back for all of my dog’s needs!

I come here a lot and it really is hit and miss. I either get my ear talked off or I get nothing… always an exciting adventure if you like a hot-​cold-​never-​know-​what-​you-​are-​going-​to-​get shopping experience… but then it is only dog food — I don’t need to be liked by or be best friends with the woman in the pet store… meh. I’ve experienced better

Ideal Pet Stop is my neighborhood pet store and they carry nothing buy high quality pet foods at better prices than the other pet stores in my area. I buy one of the lower end price-​wise products for my dogs and cat, but they are all very healthy and at perfect weights.
The selection for treats, toys, bowls, collars, leashes and beds are great as well and they manage to pack a wide variety of products into their smallish store without it being too cluttered.
They also carry supplies for every other indoor critter people might have as well as everything you might need for backyard chickens. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful helping me find certain items and decide between various products.
I never shop anywhere else anymore and I’m here nearly every week picking up new things for my pampered bully mixes. I heartily recommend this wonderful local store.

No big old commercial junk pet food, no thoughtlessly impractical products, no fake personalities, just straight up quality.

Wonderful pet store. Tons of selection. Staff is smart. Helpful. The dark haired girl in particular gave me spot on advice for my Boston terriers terrible gas and skin issues. Prices are reasonable. Much much much better than the big (soulless) corporate per stores. Do yourself a favor and check them out.

A nice, neighborhood pet store with great prices and good service. It’s normally staffed by one or two people who will go out of their way to try and answer your questions and find the right product (s) to suit your needs.
One time in particular, I had a cat who was terminally ill and not wanting to eat. We had a rough night and I came in bleary-​eyed and desperate for something bland to feed her. Not only did the manager search everywhere in her store for something that seemed appropriate for my dying kitty, but she even went across the street with me to the Co-​op to continue the search, even went as far as asking the deli people if they had some chicken broth I could buy (without seasonings). I’ve never had any other store give me that type of customer service and I’ll never forget it.
Their selection is very good and comparable to similar sized stores. And I’ve found their prices to be at the very competitive, if not better than most local and major pet store chains.
My beloved canine companion Sophia loves visiting and gives it a five paw rating.

This pet store is straight out of an episode of Portlandia. You know the feminist bookstore episode? Yeah, well Ideal Pet Store is the feminist pet store! After spending my money off and on at this place for six years, I will no longer be doing so as I am convinced that the people working here would prefer it if only women shop there.
I’ve been living in the Seward Park neighborhood for almost six years now. My wife and I have frequented the Ideal Pet Shop fairly regularly since we’ve moved to the neighborhood. I never gave much thought to it initially but over the years, I’ve noticed that the people who work at this store are just never very friendly to me. I never get a smile, and often there is very little eye contact or words exchanged. When I would tell my wife about my experiences at this store, she would look puzzled and tell me that they are always nice to her. I also want to point out that I have NEVER seen a man working at this store in the six years I’ve been here.
Tonight, my wife and I went into the store together except that my wife went in just ahead of me. I followed shortly after her and my experience was the same as usual, no acknowledgement, no greeting or smile etc. We just stopped in to get some cat good real quick. As we checked out, once again, the clerk says nothing (doesn’t even look up at us) until my wife says «Thank You» on our way out and the clerk looks up at my wife only and replies to her with a smile. After we leave the store, I mention how unfriendly they always are to me and my wife tells me that the clerk smiled and said hello to her when she initially walked in without me!
I consider myself a supporter of feminism and women’s rights and it’s really too bad that these man hating women have treated me and (judging by other reviews) others so poorly. My wife and I will not be shopping at this store anymore. I’d rather go the extra way and support a corporate pet store just to prove a point.
On a completely different note, the store is dirty and disorganized anyway so it’s just not an enjoyable experience to shop there for several reasons.

Its sad that this is our «neighborhood» pet store, when the folks that work inside definitely are not friendly, kind or knowledgeable. If you ask me, they are plain lazy and have no cares for the customers that walk through their doors or for their animals.
I am all about supporting our local businesses, but when we walk in to buy dog food, treats or toys (mind you, the ideal pet store’s prices are $ 2 – 3 more than Mud Bay or Pet Co), we get no greetings when we walk in, and the lady that helps us while checking out, gives us this look like we are inconveniencing her by just being there.
My husband and I have decided to spend the extra time to drive to Cap Hill to Mud Bay with better service and just plain old nicer people who want to help.
I recommend shopping at Ideal Pet Store only if you REALLY have to. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and spend your money elsewhere.
