Jake’s Coffee

I was super stoked to try Jake’s coffee as it’s minutes from my work, they have Victrola coffee (one of the best in Seattle!!) And its not over crowded for studying (unlike the Ave). However, after periodically stopping in over the year and trying a good amount of drinks/​foods I felt it was time to review as I generally find myself leaving disappointed. STAFF: First, their staff is a great crew! Super friendly and courteous! But their barista craftsmanship needs work. DRINKS: the americano’s, drip coffee, lattes and w. mochas are weak, tasting stale, burnt or just lacking proper amount of shots (or flavor– vanilla, white mocha, etc) per cup size ratio. I tried a smoothie, but it had so much milk base, it was icky. I’ve decided to buy the Victrola beans instead and make at home. Best decision ever! FOOD: BBQ pork sandwich, sounds good but the meat was pretty dry and for the price, I had hoped to get more meat then two pieces. The cookies and scones were a good size, but also dry and brittle. PLACE: attempted to study there a few times but it was 80 degrees today, and there is no air conditioning, which was uncomfortably warm in there! Although there are a handful of tables/​outlets available and other patrons were quiet, the background music was so loud both times, It was hard to concentrate. I really hate giving a small business a low rating, but I hope this will help improve the experience in the future. Will still come by for my Victrola coffee bags though!

I just started patronizing Jake’s a few weeks ago – but am rapidly becoming a Sunday morning regular. I’ve only gotten a 12 oz. Americano there, but it’s always delicious. They serve Victrola – one of my favorite roasters. For coffee in Seattle, prices are pretty reasonable. The price: quality ratio is GREAT.
The gal who’s usually there Sunday mornings, Lethy (not sure that’s spelled correctly), is awesome. She’s a joy to chat with while she gets your order ready.
I plan on going there this Sunday morning. And the one after that. And the one after that.

Was visiting Seattle and stopped by on a Sunday morning for coffee and a pastry, but decided to get the waffle instead since it got good reviews. The waffle was, well, a waffle, but I have to be honest that I’m more of a pancake person. It was definitely better than the waffles you make in those waffle machines at hotels. The coffee was good. The reason I gave Jake’s 3 stars instead of 4 is that service was really slow and the area where sugar, milk, and syrup was available was very messy. At least that Sunday there was only one barista, and she was hard-​pressed to keep up with both the coffee and breakfast orders.

Unfortunately, I did not have that great of an experience. Ordered the waffle with berries and ice cream which was $ 7 and also a latte. The latte was decent but that dessert I ordered was not good. The waffle was barley warm, the berries were not good, and the ice cream tasted like it had freezer burn.
The interior was not particularly all that nice and behind the counter they had all this storage just stack up high. It made the interior of the café look dumpy. Considering how close it is to the Ave, you’d the think they would do more to stay competitive.
It wasn’t terrible but at the same rate everything about the experience was average. Nothing impressed me or stood out so don’t know what would make me want to come back.
Overall, I personally won’t be returning and wouldn’t really recommend this to others (but not deter someone from going either).

Jake’s Coffee is a wonderful little place, with friendly staff, good coffee (Victrola) and decent pastries. The atmosphere is quiet, and mellow in the afternoons. Jake’s Coffee is the perfect refuge for me while I am waiting for Century Link to come through with Internet service. Even after C.L. comes through, I am sure I won’t need an excuse to frequent things establishment.

I hate putting down a business like this, but it really has to be done. I will say the girl behind the counter was very nice. But my blueberry scone had to of been in the case for a couple days. I have heard the term «tastes like cardboard,» but until yesterday I couldn’t relate to what that meant. I honestly took a bite of that scone and tossed it in the trash receptacle. Then I moved onto my latte. Something about the coffee wasn’t right. I can’t exactly describe it, but maybe stale? it was a not a great taste. It seemed to be the esspresso, not the dairy product, which assured me that I wouldn’t get too sick drinking it. So rather than wasting my $ 8, I forced myself to drink the latte. Again, I feel terrible writing a review like this, but maybe Jake can use this review to improve. My advice, don’t sell old pastries and baked goods. It’s not worth trying to make the money on them.

I was really disappointed in this place. I stopped in for a cup of coffee (just a regular brewed coffee) — it was overpriced and weak as anything.

This is everything a coffee shop should be:
The coffee is great.
The internet is fast and free.
The tables are clean.
It’s not crowded because people haven’t figured out yet that it’s here.
The baristas are genuinely nice people who are helpful and accommodating with everything from giving you four quarters in change when you ask, to giving you water with your coffee, to not having a problem with you eating other food in the shop when you drink their coffee.
This is why I like coming here. You should too. They deserve your business.

Eh. I ordered a fruit waffle and my BF had a fruit and ice cream waffle. The addition of ice cream costs $ 3, which makes no sense because they sell a single scoop for $ 2.75.
My waffle came with canned berries and whipped cream on top. The syrup from the canned berries made most of the waffle a gross soggy mess. Also, canned berries? It’s summer! Fresh berries are in abundance!
My bf’s waffle was assembled differently with fruit and ice cream on the side so his was just fine.
We shared a cheese croissant and it was also disappointing as it was just a dry and bland pastry.

Though a smaller café, it’s never too crowded. And I like that! Crowded and loud cafes are big no-​nos. It’s pretty quiet so it’s a great place to study and get work done.
Came here on a sunny afternoon. I ordered a waffle and an iced chai latte. The chai latte was great! The chai was not overwhelming and sweetness was just right for me. The waffle comes with a scoop of ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and some berries. The combination was just perfect.
The service is quick and friendly. Nothing to complain about there. I did manage to seat myself at a wiggly table though, which is just my luck. I have the useless superpower to find wiggly tables. But that’s mostly my fault. I sat down and was too lazy to move to another table.

I am so glad I found comfort and home in this coffee shop. This little gem is located on 47^th street and between 11^th and 12^th avenue.
Not many people come to this place compared to the other popular coffee shops in University District. I kinda like it that way, so maybe y’all shouldn’t come here! But I won’t be selfish, everyone should try this place out if they’re looking for a nice place to get some coffee.
I like Jake’s because it feels very home-​y. It’s a small place with just a few tables, but there always tends to be seating whenever I come. There are a good number of outlets available if you’re bringing your electronics and also free wi-​fi. The place is also pretty quiet with light music in the background, perfect for studying. The menu has all your typical drinks on it, and they also serve tea and bubble tea. They have some home-​made baked treats like lemon bars, cookies and Russian tea cakes as well. If you like waffles, they make some tasty waffles here served with fresh fruit, whipped cream, or ice-​cream, your choice!
I’ve tried their green tea which is loose leaf in a teabag. Tea is tea and I like the strength and quality of it here. I also have tried their chai tea latte as well. They offer the different kinds of milk if you have special dietary needs. I personally like mine with soy milk. I would say that the chai tea lattes here are on the sweeter side compared to other places. But it’s not necessarily a bad thing. It has that nice spice aroma and flavor with sweetness. It actually tastes like a treat to me whenever I get it.
I think what makes Jake’s so special is the people. The women who work here are so sweet and friendly. They are always smiling and asking about your day. I just love how they interact with their regulars and their customers. It just feels so comfortable because of their loving presence. The price for everything here is quite fair. I also appreciate that when you swipe with your card there are tipping options so it makes it easy to tip.
Overall, it’s such a nice place to study, work on an essay, research, or chat with friends. I am definitely going to be trying the waffles here sometime because they look so darn good.

Solid place to study/​get work done. The matcha latte is good. Prices overall are decent. They have outlets by the tables against the windows which is awesome when you need to hunker down. The employees are always nice. Try their ice cream!

I was craving really good matcha latte and after searching on Unilocal,I found Jake’s. Cute little coffee shop, plenty of seats. Wonderful service. Aside from coffee, they also have boba drinks and food.
The matcha latte is heavenly! They don’t skimp on the matcha and the coffee is really good. Prices for their coffees are decent, like most coffee places. I highly recommend this place if you have a hankering for great quality matcha!

Great coffee shop that’s not as crowded as the Starbucks along the ave. Service is always quick and friendly.

This coffee shop is named after a cat named Jake?! That’s so cute. I love it!
I was in the neighborhood last week and stopped by because I really wanted some coffee. I ended up ordering a mocha for me, a hot («actually, warm») chocolate for my boyfriend, and a drip coffee for a guy at the tire/​car repair shop because he was having a really rough week.
I brought my reusable to-​go cup, so I got my mocha in my cup. Temperature seemed fine and it was delicious.
I didn’t have reusable cups for the guys, so they got the standard to-​go cups with sleeves. About half a block away from the café, my walk got pretty unpleasant because the two drinks were super hot and I kept having to change the way I was holding them. About a block away I had to set them down on the ground for several seconds because my hands were in pain. I only ended up setting them all the way down once during the ~2-​block walk, but my hands hurt for several minutes after I reached my destination. I was pretty annoyed because I had specifically asked for at least the hot chocolate to be warm instead of hot so he could drink it right away.
I’m looking forward to stopping by again next time we need to take the car to the shop, but I will have to find a way to be super clear about my temperature request.

Great place for a pick-​me-​up or to settle down for a while and study. The staff is incredibly sweet and they always make it a pleasant experience.

I needed a pick-​me-​up and ended up at Jake’s Coffee. It was conveniently located, and parking was relatively easy.
It is a cute and cozy place with Victrola coffee/​bubble tea/​sandwiches/​baked goods. I ordered a small green tea latte. The guy behind the counter (only 1 person was working) was friendly and sweet. As he prepared my drink, I scanned through the food case. Some scones, cookies, plastic-​wrapped Costo muffins and Little Rae’s cookies… I probably won’t be back for their food items…
The green tea latte was sweet and creamy. It was not the best (lack of a strong green tea flavour), but I did enjoy it.

A taste of heaven. Enough said. I’m just gonna come here every day until it becomes super crowded in the summer

The owner invited me and some of my friends in for their soft-​opening day. Everything was on the house as they were trying to see if they can improve on anything before their official grand opening. They gave us complimentary pastries as we waited for our drinks and everyone seemed extremely friendly, let alone excited for the store to finally open.
I ordered the taro milk tea with boba and is definitely one of the better ones I’ve had. It wasn’t too sweet and actually tasted the taro unlike many other places that serve milk tea. The boba was chewy and well made. I’m hoping the quality stays consistent because I know I’ll be going back :)

I happened to come in on their ‘pre-​opening’ day, which I’m assuming means that I walked in on a training session and they were too polite to ask me to leave. Nevertheless, I was greeted warmly by one of the half dozen or so people squeezed behind the counter.
They brew Victrola beans. I got a double espresso; short and sweet, served in a tall, impractically wobbly demitasse. I like this style of espresso more than the lemoney-​tart stuff a lot of places pull these days. Also on the menu: a whole bunch of iced coffee drinks (perfect for the toastey weather ahead of us), bubble tea, and several loose leaf tea options. Looks like yet another quality coffee/​tea place in the northern end of the U District — and the only one I know of that brews Victrola.
The space is nice; they resisted the urge to pack the place with tables, so there’s plenty of elbow-​room. Lots of south-​facing windows, so this’ll be a nice place to settle down with a book this summer and enjoy the sunshine.
I didn’t notice their brewed coffee options, or their prices (they gave me that espresso on the house, since it was pre-​opening day and all). But I’m sure I’ll be back in the next few days to try out some of those iced coffees; they will likely be getting that fifth star if the quality stays consistent.
