I stand by my reasons for deducting stars as pointed out in my previous review, but feel the need to speak to the personal attack posted here. I have never, nor would ever accept money for a review, I prefer to frequent small businesses that care about customer service and do not give a cold shoulder to people who are not regulars. I have had better service and food than this location and will not be intimidated by private message to give more stars than a location earns.

I don’t know why there are so many bad reviews of Julia’s but I loved this place. It’s in an older house, and the service was fast, fast — did I mention fast? Wow, our food was delicious, but the one thing that stuck out the most was their special of the day: Orange french toast. It was like french toast with a hint of a fresh orange. I absolutely loved it, and have been raving about this place to whomever I encounter. I definitely am more of a savory kind of girl, but I will sometimes dive into something more sweet from time to time. Do give Julia’s a try, there may be a long wait and the food might take a little long, but the service is amazing, and the food is good homecooking breakfast food! :) Don’t knock it until you try it

After lackluster dinner experiences at Julia’s in Wallingford and Capitol Hill, I had reservations about trying the Queen Anne location. Actually, I did NOT have reservations — anywhere — and ended up going to Julia’s for brunch only because all the other breakfast spots on QA had lines out the door and my tumbly was a-rumbly. No way was a 45 minute wait going to work. We were able to walk right into Julia’s and get a seat without waiting. They definitely had a good crowd going, but no mondo marathon line. Anyway, I was very pleasantly surprised by this location. The space has lots of charm. It’s essentially the downstairs of a Victorian house. The rooms are full of antique furniture and stained glass windows, and have a very cozy bed and breakfasty feel without feeling stuffy or overly grandmother-ish. It seemed like a great place to settle in for a pot of tea, but the rumbly insisted that I order a real breakfast, so I went for an omelet and sampled the goodies from each of my eating companions’ plates. The portions were plenty big for sharing, and everything was mighty tasty. The biggest hits at our table were the pancakes and the huevos rancheros. The place was packed, but our server was cheerful and friendly, and the food came out hot, tasty, and in good time. It did take a while to get the check, but like I said, the place was packed, so I cut them some slack. All in all, a good experience, and I definitely know where to head the next time I’m feeling impatiently hungry at brunch time.

So, first off, I have to say that I have always received excellent service at Julia’s on QA, especially when we took guests for dinner last week. I forget our waitresses’ name but she was a hoot! I love the old house set up of the resto but I have to say that I much prefer lunch at Julia’s than dinner. Although the inside is very nice, there is a cute little outdoor area which is much busier at lunchtime and they do very filling and yummy sandwiches which they are happy to alter if you so wish.

Came for weekend breakfast. The Queen Anne location has a lovely front patio, umbrellas, lights, bottomless coffee and an extensive breakfast menu. 3 stars(instead of 4), because the host/hostess really made it seem like we more of a burden than paying customers. Because the food was good, fine, just fine. Because«fresh fruit» as one of the main focuses of a dish should probably be more than melon, orange slice, and 3 grapes. Because the scrambles aren’t true scrambles(in my mind, scrambles are a lovely mix of the side of potatoes and whatever you’re putting in your eggs). And my partner wants me to add that no option for hashbrowns(just herbed/cubed potatoes) detracts from the overall breakfast experience. 3 stars(instead of 2) because the manager/server was friendly and attentive, the downstairs eating areas are so lovingly kept, and because the portion sizes are not obscene. We’ll probably try another Julia’s location, but that’s admittedly because they gave us coupons as we left…

Unfortunately I can only give two stars for a few reasons. But, before I start with the negatives let me say first that the ambiance is wonderful. The restaurant is located in a very cute neighborhood and the location itself is a cute Victorian style building. The waitresses were very nice explaining us about the new menu and giving us some suggestions on what to try as first timers. We ordered Chicken Penne Pasta dish with mushrooms and some kind of tomato cream sauce and a pesto artichoke, capers, and tomato pizza. The pizzas were highly recommended to us by the waitress. I was pretty dissapointed about the pizza I must say. It was very greasy, basically the whole bottom of the pizza crust was drenched in oil. I know that pizza is not the healthiest to order but I don’t think it should feel like a sponge soaked up in fat. I was totally fine with that experience thinking that I would just eat more of the pasta dish that my fiancé ordered and of course not ordering pizza anymore but trying some of the many other items on the menu. WELL…as I was eating the pasta dish I kept biting on really hard pieces and actually even swallowing down some. Then I decided to take them out of my mouth and putting them on my napkin. I started to collect about three of those pieces to figure out if it was just a burned food or some kind of crushed pepper. My fiancé called the waitress over right away. She took the napkin with her and right away returned with another waitress who then told us that she apologizes but the black is actually from a BURNEDCONTAINER which somehow ended up in our pasta dish. She assured me though that I don’t have to worry about anything and it is not harmful to me. ???Ahmmmm, wait a minute, black burned plastic in my stomach? Isn’t burned food already supposed to be cancerous? How about burned plastic then? The waitress, took of the meal from our bill and even made the cook prepare another pasta dish(without burned plastic) to take home with. We appreciated the waitresses’ efforts. Unfortunately the experience was a little too bad to return and try it again. I think with all the great restaurants Seattle has to offer I will just try another place next time instead.

Food is great but I have to give 2 stars for the bitchy waitress we got. It was me and one other person and we asked for table outside close to the street so we could people watch. Because it seated four our waitress refused to let us sit there even though the patio was almost empty. So she make us sit at a different table and didn’t even pretend to be nice or apologetic about it. Rude! On that note– go to Julia’s on cap hill– even better people watching and the service is decent.

Julia’s is not on the top of my list, but not the bottom either. Service is very slow — both to get seated, and to get your food. The food is okay, but nothing to write home about. Every time I go, the place is pretty empty! That’s never a good sign… I think the whole Victorian-house theme is a little quiet and too dainty for me, so I like to sit outside during the summer.

I’ve been here twice, I don’t have a need to rush back. The dining area both inside and out is awkward — cramped and positioned so that you always feel you are in the walkway. The food has been OK, nothing over the top and nothing I can remember the next day, but good for the caliber of the establishment and for the price. The staff leave something to be desired. I dislike epic waits to be seated when they aren’t busy(ever hear of a dedicated host?), epic waits for the server to finally swing by our table only to take a complete order(ever hear of an initial drink order?), then having to hunt the server down if you ever want anything other than the check after your food has been served(but they are quick to return your paid bill). Its too bad — just a little effort and this would be an ideal café.

This place has a mandatory takeout fee. What the hell? Who does that? Isn’t the whole point of takeout that you’re willing to mess up your own dinner table, and then clean up after yourself, so as to avoid the gratuity you’d otherwise feel obligated to pay? What exactly are we tipping for here? Also, they list«fresh squeezed orange juice» on their menu and it’s absolutely not freshly squeezed. I don’t like liars and I don’t like greedy businesses. The mandatory takeout fee notice on the bottom of the menu was so off-putting. As a statistician, I really question how many others were so put off at this requirement that they felt less inclined to order takeout from Julia’s. I then wonder if they really end up bringing in any more money by requiring this«tip.»

It was a Thursday night, around dinner time. My friends and I went to Julia’s in Queen Ann for the first time and the place was pretty much empty. Hmm. An empty restaurant on a Thursday night? Could it be a bad sign? I read the reviews on Unilocal before going there, so I had little expectation. We were led to a big private-ish dinning room that sits 6 people. I mean, there were nobody around us dining, so it was private either way. The Victorian style décor is pretty neat but the place was awfully quiet. We could hear music from the kitchen, though. Food was okay — not horrible but not good or memorable. I had salmon… I don’t have much to say about my dish… just, okay. My friend said her sweet potato fries were cold and my other friend’s mashed potato was a bit dry. Over all, none of us said«this is so good!» or anything throughout our dinner. By the way, why is this place categorized as Vegan&Vegetarian? It’s not a vegetarian restaurant, they just have vegetarian options — but so do a lot of other restaurants.

Julia’s was sub-par at best. :| Was not the best dining experience I’ve had. We went in that fine time between lunch/dinner and I settled for a sandwich with a half salad. Oh where to begin. The sammich was sloppy, and didn’t taste that great. There was bacon… that was not crisp, but was soggy. And my tomato… well, wasn’t the color a tomato should be. I will blame it on us coming in that in-between time. But the service was awful. We were the only table there, and really didn’t get checked on at all. I may hit up the Capital Hill location to see how that is. It seems like others have had a better time there. :( Boo. Not worth the walk up the hill.

Firstly, not just a veggie /vegan place… lots of yummy meat options. My rating is based on brunch: **** service. brought coffee to us during our wait. friendly. multiple people helping out, very attentive even though busy. **** breakfasts for all of us. Hobo Omlette, super large. Pulled Pork Quesadilla with Feta Cheese, yum, yum, yum.

A toasted crab sandwich(crab with a –C– not with a –K-) and a side of fresh fruit for under ten bucks served on a garden patio during a sunny day with plenty of «shared» wi-fi to go around? Yes, please! This Julia’s is nothing like my neighborhood Julia’s so I can believe that my fantastic experience was a fluke, but it was a delicious fluke.

Where oh where do I begin… If I could I would give this place a half star. That half star would be awarded for the waiter because despite how the rest of the meal went he was pretty nice. My girlfriend and I went to Julia’s for lunch. We sat outside and was enjoying the warm evening. I ordered a mojito that was made rather sloppy. I’m no mojito expert but it tasted watered down and Im pretty sure that it is suppose to at least taste a bit like mint. I ordered the portobello burger. I was expecting a hamburger with mushrooms. I guess I should have read the description a little closer because what I got was two buns with a huge dark brown mushroom in the middle, along with some lettuce and a tomato. The mushroom made the bun very soggy and a dark brown color. Actually, it was almost black. I took a deep breath and took a bite, hoping that this burger would knock me out and make me eat my doubts I had. I can honestly say I have never tasted anything like it. Here is why: I swear, ladies and gentlemen, it tasted exactly like the harvard exit theater smells! Let me say that again; the burger tasted musty and like an old polyester blend seat from the late 70’s. It was unbelievable! The texture of the mushroom was rather tough and stringy. I cut the burger in half and made it through one but after that I couldn’t bring myself to eat the rest. The gf had some sort of salad with chicken in it, which she pointed out was soggy and bland. Overall, this was one of the most dissatisfying eating experiences I have had in quite some time. I can honestly say I have no desire to go back anytime soon.

I went here for brunch, and saw a menu chock full of interesting selections. But there’s a definite disconnect between the menu and the(overpriced) food. For while the menu offers ambitiously, the kitchen executes poorly. I had eggs benedict with smoked salmon, and nothing in it seemed right. The poached eggs were overcooked so that the yolks were nearly hard-boiled. The smoked salmon was tough like jerky, had a cloyingly sweet smoke to it, and was full of fish bones. And the hollandaise sauce had so much lemon flavor that I sometimes wonder if they just added good ol’ Countrytime lemonade powder into it. It came with a side of what the menu billed as «grilled potatoes,» but it was just basic hash brown potatoes that you could pour ketchup over. We also shared a grilled cinnamon roll described to contain some fancy orange cream stuff, but it was really just a tough, old cinnamon roll. Everyone else’s food looked ghastly, too. The ambience — an old converted house — and the service were really nice. I just wish the food were better, especially if they’re gonna charge you $ 9-$ 13 for breakfast items.

This place is so bad, I created an account on Unilocal solely so I could warn other people before they wasted their money, time, and tastebuds on such a horrendous restaurant. My husband and I ended up here by a fluke. We were planning on going to How To Cook A Wolf for our anniversary, but due to poor planning we didn’t know they were closed on Tuesdays until we got there. We live on Queen Anne so have passed by Julia’s on a regular basis and always thought it was a cute place we would like to try. Cute, sure. Worth trying? Hell no. When we walked in it was deserted. We had to wait several minutes for the hostess to even come out of the back of the kitchen because the staff was all very loudly goofing off in the back. When she finally came up we told her it was our anniversary(just in casual conversation) and she seated us next to the Christmas tree at the front of the restaurant(right by the window). Which would have been nice, except for the fact that is was also right by the door and some guy and the hostess/waitress were talking(again, loudly and obnoxiously) with the door wide open and it was 38 degrees outside. Not exactly pleasant, but forgivable. So, there we were trying to enjoy our third anniversary, but that is pretty hard to do when you hear the staff all in the kitchen talking(rather loudly) about«puking and shitting everywhere». I was appalled and shocked that such a «classy» restaurant would be so uncouth. Then a lady comes in and informs her its«girls’ night out» and she and several of her friends are meeting there and plan to take FULL advantage of their half price wine night. So, what does the waitress do? Seats them RIGHTNEXTTOUS. Mind you, the ENTIRE restaurant is empty, except for the two tables. The restaurant is also an old house so it echoes very badly. Another group comes in after that and she sits them right next to us as well. At this point, I was freaking PISSED. The entire time we were all but ignored. Finally, the waitress brought us water that was room temperature(which admittedly was rather cold since the door had been left open, but it was not cold enough to be enjoyable to drink — not for me anyway) and when I asked for ice and lemon for my water the girl just looked at me like I was speaking another language. We ordered calamari as an appetizer which came out cold and soggy(like fried foods do when you let them sit for a while). I asked her for some cocktail sauce because I can’t stand tartar sauce. She informed be that they didn’t have cocktail sauce but she could bring me some horseradish and ketchup and I could mix it together. Um, why wouldn’t you just mix it in the back for me instead of bringing me the ingredients and telling me to mix it myself??? Again, when I inquired about this I received the same I-don’t-understand-wtf-you-are-saying stare. She told me that they«just couldn’t do that»… ummm okay, whatever. She brought me the ketchup and horseradish and nothing to mix it in so I had to mix it on my bread plate. Did I mention the bread was stale? My husband and I both decided on the special which was chicken parmagiana over a bed of pasta with steamed vegetables on the side. Sounds great right? The chicken was burnt and dried out, the vegetables were undercooked(crunchy enough to not be considered cooked or «steamed» but wilted enough to not be considered fresh), and the pasta was also dried out and tasted like nothing but too much pepper. The entire meal was cold when we got it. Not once were our glasses refilled. …I felt like I was in a nightmare of a restaurant experience. Everything was WAY overpriced for quality and portion, and obviously, it was disgusting. If I could give Julia’s 0 stars, I would.

Wow, so disappointing. I love Julia’s in Wallingford and have eaten brunch there for years. Julia’s Queen Anne was not anywhere near their standards. I had a hamburger for lunch, and it was one of the worst I’ve had in Seattle. My wife had soup, which she said tasted like it had come from a can of Campbell’s, and it came with a salad with lettuce that was already wilting. Yuck! Two stars instead of one because the setting is charming.

Julia’s — One Families Experience My seven month old son woke up early this morning and as I was playing with him the«let’s go have breakfast as a family out» bug struck. We woke my husband up and headed out the door. I was very excited, since it was just before 8 a.m. therefore we would be missing the main morning rush. As we walked in to Julia there were three other sets of patrons in the restaurant and it had a quaint feel. This is about as far as the positive experience went. Our son is not a fussy child and is very well behaved, yet we were treated by the staff as a big inconvenience. I am very cautious not to be a high maintenance customer and not to bother other patrons. Our waitress seemed to be quite annoyed with us when I asked for a hot cup of water and banana’s with our fruit that when we ordered. I find this very interesting since the restaurant was quite empty. Our food arrived and the experience continued to go downhill. The eggs were undercooked, the bacon was burnt, the toast and potatoes were cold and well my order was just was bad. Basically what it comes down to is the restaurant is over rated, very poor food, and not family friendly in a community who embraces and prides itself on being a family community. I am writing this note to all who would like to prevent a less than par dining experience.

I came for the chicken fried steak… and enjoyed it immensely! ;) Julia’s has the best chicken fried steak that I’ve found in Seattle. My discoverystarted out as a fleeting special at Julia’s in Wallingford so I was happy to found out it had a permanent place on the Queen Anne menu. They double dip the steak in their tasty batter so it comes out nice n’ thick, crispy, and oh so good. It has got the right amount of seasoning and it isn’t too salty. The meat cus is decent too. Their country gravy with chunks of sausage in it is pretty good. I subbed out the toast for a biscuit and so that with the chicken fried, eggs, potatoes and a coffee made for one mighty fine brekkie. Being located in an nice lil old converted house gives lots of character to this Southern-themed restaurant. They’ve got nice décor including some stained-glass windows in frames hanging in front of the windows. The service was nice and friendly. A+!
