I’d high expectations from this place. Their latte’s tasted very bitter and did bite me back. They charge 50 cents extra for a card transaction and I gave them a dollar tip. That was almost $ 5 for an 8ounce latte. I’ll not return here. Very disappointed with the taste of coffee. The location is good though. Very surprised at the number of good reviews it has. Or maybe I went in here at a wrong time and a wrong barista served me. Who knows

Coffee and food are amazing. Ambience is very welcoming, and if I lived in Seattle I would come here all the time!

Messy and rough around the edges, Makeda is certainly small and local… in that it looks like I might have walked into someone’s garage that they just decided to run a coffee business out of. A messy pile of grimy children’s toys sit in the corner — desperate for someone to take some bleach spray to it. I was pleasantly surprised by was the beautiful latte art but that alone won’t bring me back. Verdict: Not recommended.

From out of town. Ordered a mocha and it is one of the best I’ve ever had. Friendly staff. Free wifi. This place is an easy win.

I came to the small and wonderful coffee shop this morning. What I found was a nice small space with plenty of atmosphere, and the barista was incredibly nice and helpful. He suggested I try a new espresso roaster’s beans(one they just started offering) for my Americano… it was amazing. I am going to make sure to tell everyone I know in the Green Lake to stop by this amazing little coffee shop. Do yourself a favor, go in and have some coffee at Makéda

My experience here was good. There was nobody else in the place, so I had it to myself to work a little. No real outlets, but come on people charge your freaking machines before you go out somewhere. I never understood why nobody does that. The mocha was tasty, flavorful. The environment was cozy; because it was mostly empty(expect for a patron that came in later that seemed to know the owner and they friendly chatted), it was actually kind of messy. There was a jacket with unknown owner thrown on the pew across the wall, one of the tables has crumbs on it, another table was rickety, a little dog wanders about and mostly sleeps on the couch in the back but sometimes yaps annoyingly. The back area also seemed to have/encourage children’s play. I would not like to be here with loud children. Thus, I expect it is not a place where a young person would typically come to convene and work on their Apple device. But, a nice place and a nice neighborhood.

Very chill neighborhood spot. Personnel is friendly and welcomes dogs, but not a great place to work or study with small tables and no visible outlets. Hot drinks are better than iced — my iced soy mocha had curdles and wasn’t too cold.

Coffee, let’s talk about the coffee! This café embodies the very Seattlite coffee joint feel and uniqueness just perfectly. The location can be a little unappealing though worth the possibly far parking and walk. Ambiance is a hip, divey hang out full of people, dogs and kids. The downside of this is that it can be very distracting. None the less the noise level is minimum and seating is not a problem despite the small space. You can’t go wrong with an espresso con panna, classic macchiato or cappuccino, it never disappoints! A full bodied, dark brew with an exceptional bittersweet nutty aftertaste, if you want coffee done right this is your place!

Back in the day when this place first opened — it was very cool. I believe Sean was the owner? The coffee was absolutely the best in the neighborhood without question. Now the coffee is fine but the place has the vibe of a wet, kind of musty basement that has dirty dog smell to it.

Not sure what the hype is about with this place. There are so many better shops to buy coffee and beans in the area like Herkimer. It’s not a bad place, I just wouldn’t award it more than a few stars. It’s not kept very clean and it’s small but not in a cute way.

I love this place. I am not a coffee drinker, nor do I even live in the neighborhood. I love tea. I love chai tea even more. I happened to stop by this place by accident and I tried the Chai Tea Latte with cayenne pepper. It’s been my favorite drink ever since. I will drive out of my way to come here to reward myself after a long day. Service is friendly, approachable and timely. It’s also dog friendly. Most of all, the atmosphere is comfortable and unpretentious. It’s easy to feel at home here.

Excellent coffee and more importantly a hive of ‘neighborhoodness’ Makeda is welcoming to all(All people, dogs, kids, etc) and you might just meet your neighbor. It’s not sleek, glassy or perfect but that’s what’s perfect about Makeda.

My wife and I live a block away and have been customers since the shop opened in 2007. It is so wonderful to have a cheery presence in the neighborhood seven days a week. Prashanthi is the owner and her graciousness is infectious. Her shop serves as a neighborhood meeting place and clearinghouse for information about everything going on. Her bulletin board is a good place to sell stuff and postings about parties, news about neighbors and upcoming events. We are on our second Newfoundland dog going there«Lucy Clare» now 9 months, the regulars remember our loss last year of the sweetest dog ever, «Zook». Many people work there regularly using the reliable high-speed WIFI. Come join us if you want an experience similar to the TV show«Cheers»… everybody knows your name and your dog’s name.

Makeda used to be my go to absolute favorite coffee shop in Seattle. I would drive from anywhere to get to Makeda when I wanted a coffee. They had the best baristas who were always friendly and made great lattes, friendly customers, delicious food, and enough tables that you could stay and enjoy your coffee if you wanted. In the last year or so I have only come back a handful of times as they had a large staff change and now the coffee is comparable to Starbucks, lattes are not made well, and staff is indifferent.

This place is dog friendly! My corgi/chihuahua mix is a bit skittish around new people and the baristas behind the counter were super sweet to him. The coffee is outstanding(best Americano I’ve had so far) and the free dog treats at the counter provide an added bonus. I just moved to Seattle and I am quite pleased by how kind and welcoming the people here seem. I will definitely be coming back here in the future!

So… the pros of Makeda… Nice Staff Good Coffee The soft chairs in back make a good change of pace from every coffee shop in the area that is infatuated with hard wood seating(especially benches) Lots of stuff to keep kids entertained Cons… THEPLACEISUNBEARABLYHOT! Not so bad in the winter, but man, you cannot be inside in the summer. The staff tends to congregate on the outdoor seating so that it is not that comfortable for the customers to sit somewhere that doesn’t feel like death valley And the staff basically talks to their friends or reads a magazine and doesn’t really go any extra miles to engage. Not that they do anything bad, but it is definitely average service. In the spirit of ending on a positive note, I do enjoy the warmth in the winter.

I went for 7 roasters and had forgotten that it was a new place. Makeda is really cool. It is dog friendly. The coffee was good. It’s retained a nice neighborhood vibe. Shame on me for taking a year to hit 7 roasters again.

Not really a place you would want to stay and study at. If you enjoy being insulted, then you might like this place. Coffee wasn’t memorable(either in a good or bad way).

Just returned from a quick trip to get a cup to end my week. Haven’t been here for a while but kinda bummed when I got my change. $ 4.75 for a mocha. I asked for a 16oz which I figured was a med. Aren’t most Lg. Mocha’s 20oz? What is the industry standard? Okay so they charge more for less my fault for not asking. Get home start to drink my coffee and I realize in the end I only received a 12oz because the top ¼ of the cup was foam. And the real deal is that they are false advertising. The price board says $ 4.05 and the girl this afternoon is charging $ 4.35. If the prices have changed update your board or charge what is says. If I return and that is an if, I hope it’s updated. I understand it’s only change but no one likes being taken advantage of… Oh and no offer of a refund or option to be charged the advertised price was even offered.

We took the dogs for a walk this morning in search of something a little different for our Sunday morning coffee. Greenwood was the general direction we were headed, so we knew we had plenty of options. I nixed Herkimer while my wife nixed Neptune. We collectively passed on Diva. Nothing against them per se, they just didn’t piqué our interest. Enter Makeda, which quickly won us over with its cozy, intimate ambiance and delicious, artistically presented coffee. It’s obviously a neighborhood gathering spot, as staff and patrons greeted each other cheerfully and took their time to enjoy the social side of such a place. As such, the service was a little slow, but the upside of this is that you don’t feel like just another customer, even for us first timers. We’re both very pleased to have dropped in today. Although it’s a fair bit of a hike further than some of our typical destinations, I suspect Makeda will find its way into our Sunday morning café rotation.
