Mars Bar

Mars is officially closed. It was a great bar and the owner was one of the nicest people I’ve met. Unfortunately, this all came to a close a few days ago when I ran into the new owners who told me that a new bar will open soon under a different name in about a month.

Well, although the Sunday evening visit isn’t the best time to visit — I can safety say this place is avoidable — several reasons.
Say what you mean/​mean what you say —
If you have a sign out on the curb that says «happy hour all day» and you casually mention happy hour before ordering — you should charge me happy hour prices. I wasn’t sure about the happy hour prices since the menu mentioned a limited happy hour, but then after the bill I casually asked about it and was promptly shot down. I didn’t push it, since I wanted to leave. Once I walked outside and confirmed the truth I knew you all needed to hear about this.
Cocktails are not created equal —
If you’re making $ 8 drinks with Jim, you’re doing something wrong. Scratch that, I’ve done something wrong. But back to your amazing ability to make me pay too much for Jim… well done. Not only was the base super cheap, but apparently everything else was cheap too! I hear the other infused drinks might be the way to go.
In short, I’m not sure this is worth the trip. Honestly it looks decent from the outside. ITS A TRAP!!!

There was nothing special about this place. It wasn’t outstanding nor was it boring. Nice atmosphere, the titan Burger was delicious, drink prices are ok. It is pretty small.
I would go again, but it wasn’t anything special.

This is a great spot on the north part of the ave. Good vibe, good prices, good drinks. The burger is both enormous and delicious. The bartender-​server was great. This place will be ln my regular rotation.

This place just opened a few months ago, so I’ll happily update this review again in the future. For now, though, here’s a quick run-​down: Nice atmosphere, cool décor, great music. We were grooving to 80s new wave in style. We didn’t sample the drinks, but the selection looks good, with decent prices. Service was laid-​back, but friendly.
The food, though, is why this is a 3 and not a 4. Slightly odd of a place to bill themselves as a «Bar & Grill» and to have such a limited menu. I was told they were planning to expand it, and I hope they follow through on that, because the Breakfast options seemed very limited unless you wanted a sandwich. (My friends said their sandwiches were good. I recommend those.) The ‘custom’ omelet I ended up with was a bit awkward, as if they weren’t sure what to do with my request. I almost wish they’d asked me again before making it, and I would’ve just gone with one of their normal variations. Also, a word on the toast. Please fix the toaster, or invest in a higher quality of bread. The two burnt slices I had were almost inedible. Visual presentation of the food could use a little polish.
But, ya know. It is what it is. I’d happily come back here for drinks at the bar, and a (hopefully) larger menu for dinner.

The food was delicious and the presentation was on point. The staff is friendly and very helpful. They have a super nintendo (!!!) and lots of board games as well, making this place a fun date/​hangout spot.

Great spot to go for happy hour, always really nice staff. The old location was more charming but the new location across the street is nice too.

Most u district bars are fucking gross, but mars bar is a nice spot. I remember going on Christmas eve and everybody was hanging out and having a blast.

No complaints about the service, really, but the vibe feels strange. It’s glossy and contemporary, but a little cold in terms of feel. It was very loud as well. It very much feels like a condo complex bar, rather than a U-​District bar that has earned its vibe over years of loving wear and reputation building. I’ve heard that the old Mars was more like that. Perhaps I’ll warm up to it in the future.

Love this place! The drinks are really good especially their infused stuff. My favorite so far has been hibiscus tequila!
Food is great had the pulled pork sandwich and the titan burger both good. Perfect amount of sauce on the pork but I needed a knife to make the pieces smaller.
Best thing, the people! So nice! So attentive!
