Marvelous Clean

I found shannon through Unilocal.I move every year, and the thing i hate most about it (besides everything) is the cleaning. I don’t mind cleaning the rooms, vacuuming, but the kitchen and bathrooms? ughhh. So I asked if he could clean just those 2 for a move out. He said it would take a couple of hours and he’d charge me $ 60. He did such a great job, i got my entire deposit back! He also stayed more than 2 hours. He was late though, but he did call and let me know.

This isn’t a review since we haven’t used their service, but just a warning for people shopping for a cleaner. We checked out their website on Sunday and they had a notice up saying that their site had been hacked and that a new one is forthcoming. Then the computer’s anti-​virus software started freaking out…
Good thing we were using my girlfriend’s work computer and they have a tech department to deal with such things. She took it in first thing Monday morning and they had to completely wipe her computer to get rid of the virus.
I’m sure they are OKAY cleaners, but it is SUPER IRRESPONSIBLE to leave up a site when you know it is infected! Better just to take it down entirely until the could make a new one.

I think Shannon has been a victim of his own success. The first time he cleaned my house, he did an excellent job. By the next time he came, his business had taken off and he told me he was often doing 4 jobs a day, 7 days a week mostly thanks to the Unilocal reviews. Great for him, not so great for the person whose house he’s rushing to get through before the next job.
The quality of the cleaning on the 2^nd visit was not good at all. A lot of basic things were skipped or not done thoroughly. However, the worst thing was that he broke an ornament, threw away the broken pieces leaving just the biggest piece behind and *didn’t tell me* even though I was in the house at the time. He accepted his payment plus a tip from me and left the house without a word. It was only later when I noticed the breakage and confronted him, he offered to pay for its replacement. Unfortunately it was a sentimental item brought back from India that cannot be replaced. This experience has made me really wary of using any housekeeping service again though I certainly hope that most services would not behave this way.

I was really excited to try him out because of his great reviews but I was disappointed and could have done a better job myself.
1. He was over a half an hr late & I had to call to see where he was at.
2. I was quoted $ 75, left $ 100 and got no change back?! Ahem… It’s not a tip before you do the job.
3. I have a litter box in the bathroom and it wasn’t moved and swept around.
4. The base of lamps were not dusted.
5. He left some of his cleaning items on the table
6. Smears on the floor & it smelled funky for days– I had to open all the windows.
The only real time consuming thing in my house was cat hair on my couch (used a big roller to clean but I use the vacuum) & love seat and dishes in the sink (which he did & I totally appreciated it!). But I have 450 sq. ft 1 br/​1ba apt and all wood floors, so it shouldn’t take that much effort– especially if you aren’t taking the whole 3 hrs that is charged.

I was searching for someone to clean my empty apartment before inspection from my landlord who is very picky and sort of a neat freak… I am moving out of my apartment and don’t want to be charged tons of money for dirty blinds, etc… I finaly decided it would be best to get a professional to clean everything… Shannon squeezed me in right before Easter at the last minute… he was late, but called to let me know he would be… when he eventually showed up he was so sorry about being several hours late he offered to clean for free! I said it was not a problem, and he proceeded to clean. He started around 7pm and cleaned till about 11pm. He did a fantastic job, he was very thorough and is also a very nice guy. The place is showroom sparkling…
I will be hiring him again, and recommend him highly to anyone who needs a great cleaning person.

I have to qualify this rating — Shannon deserves five stars for the work he put in cleaning my place. But I didn’t have the best experience and he didn’t end up finishing my house — thus the three star review.
I called Shannon on a Monday asking if he could clean my house for my move-​out by Wednesday, and amazingly he said he had time. He asked me a few questions about the place, then gave me a quote. When he arrived he took a look around, and increased his quote. He said it was dirtier than he expected, and bigger too. Fair enough. He then got to work.
After about two and a half hours he called me over and told me that he wasn’t going to finish the job, and that I had lied to him over the phone about the condition and size of my house. He was very polite about it, and refused to let me pay more than a pittance for the work he’d done, but I was still left with a house that was half cleaned on my move-​out day. I’m not sure what to make of the situation — cost wasn’t a primary deciding factor, the glowing reviews here on Unilocal were. And for the part he finished, he did an amazing job. Amazing! Cleaner than when I moved in! But I had to hire another cleaner to finish the job — and so I don’t feel that I got five-​star service.
I can’t say I’d try Shannon again, but I wouldn’t warn my friends off either. I’d just tell them to be more careful than normal in defining what they were hiring him for.

Eek! What happened? After coming a couple times, he stopped returning calls and didn’t show up to appointments. I’d call him, he’d say he’d call me back, and then nothing. I even told him if it was a question of more money, we can work it out. He’s a great cleaner — when he shows up.
A strong start leads to a poor finish. Can anyone recommend any other house cleaners?

Shannon is awesome! It took a while but boy was it worth it! Everything was spotless and when our landlord stopped by afterwards he thought we’d shampooed the carpets! He has very reasonable prices and you even get to play less for repeat business.
I would DEFINITLY hire him again!

i was happy with shannon’s move-​in clean a few weeks ago. he and his partner came on time, cleaned did what was promised.
we agreed two weeks ago that he would start today on a weekly basis… no show. no phone call. and his voice mail is full.
does anyone here know if he’s ok? or trying to get in contact with him? i wonder if i should just go get someone else to start cleaning my house…

I called Shannon on Friday afternoon letting him know I was in a hurry to get my house cleaned. We scheduled the appointment for the following day at noon. A few hours later Shannon called to let me know he had a cancellation and, because he knew I was in a hurry, he wanted to see if I’d prefer to have an earlier appointment.
I met him at my house at 9:00am (he was right on time), and we walked around my house to see what needed to be done. He had a great attitude and 3 – 4 hours later, my house looks like it did the day I moved in. Absolutely perfect!
Shannon is who I will be calling from now on!

First off, they were a little late. That’s not a huge deal, of course, since my place is hard to find. But they told me they couldn’t work just then, they had to go to another job, could they come back in two hours.
When they returned, I had to leave them to do the work. The renter said they did not do a very good job. The tub was dusty, the drawers weren’t cleaned out.
They were inexpensive and personable, but not very thorough or professional.

Shannon did a move-​out clean for us. His rate was reasonable and he did a fantastic job. In addition to doing the basics, he spent extra time getting tape residue from the move off the floor and extra cleaning in the shower stall. The place looked great when he was done.
He was very responsive and worked with our schedule to find the best time. In addition, he was also very personable and professional.
I plan on using Shannon regularly to do routine cleaning at our new home.

I hired Shannon to clean our new home before we moved in. We will definitely be using him again if we ever need professional cleaning services.
He arrived with his own supplies and one other person. They were very polite and efficient. Shannon uses non-​toxic, natural cleaning supplies and gave us some tips on good products to use ourselves. When they were done, the house smelled fantastic and everything was sparkling. I couldn’t believe what he did with one of the toilets, which looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in decades.
It was the day before Thanksgiving and Shannon said they were on their way to do one more house before they had to catch a bus to leave town for the holiday. We were supposed to be his last job but apparently someone called at the last minute and he was nice enough to squeeze them in at the end of his day.
We really appreciated his professional service and work ethic. And his prices can’t be beat! Thank you Shannon!

Started using Shannon (Marvelous Clean) through the reviews here on Unilocal.He was very nice and curteous when I met him to do an estimate for the job. When he cleaned our house the first time he did a fairly good job but did overlook just a few minor things like dusting the night stand. He was quite reasonably priced so I thought he was a keeper. As other reviewers have posted, he also got down on his hands and knees to clean my hardwood floors which was quite impressive.
Well, that was about it. Another time he came he took a long time for some reason — longer than the previous and didn’t get very much done. He didn’t do a very thorough job and he chatted on his cell phone while he was working. Not very professional in my opinion because it sounded like he was possibly getting into an argument with someone in his personal life. If it was a quick call for his business I would understand. He also missed quite a few surfaces and hardly spent any time on the main floor where I thought was more important with the kitchen and etc. He used a regular mop instead of getting on his hands and knees. I was fine with that since it still got cleaned but he was definitely in a rush to leave and didn’t care about the work. Thought maybe he had a bad day and scheduled him in one more time.
The deal breaker came when he didn’t show up the last time. He was always a little early and parked in front of my house until time came as scheduled. Well, no show, and I called to leave a message to ask if there was miscommunication. Nobody answered so I left a voice message. Never heard from him again, no reply, no apology, nothing. Therefore, unreliable and wasted my time to wait for him. There are a ton of other more professional and reliable people around so I would definitely look elsewhere.

Shannon and co did a great job cleaning my apartment after I had vacated it. I recommend him unreservedly not just for the work he did, but for the obvious integrity and care he brought to his interactions with me. This is someone you can count on to do it right!

Shannon is AMAZING!
I was searching around for a cleaning service to give my house a deep clean before moving out. I rang several places — Shannon was polite and easy to schedule with. His rates are affordable and he did a beautiful job cleaning my home. We did a quick run through of the house before he started and he assured me that it wouldn’t be a problem. Shannon arrived early, brought his own cleaning supplies and was extremely thorough.

I called Shannon on Friday and we scheduled a cleaning for Monday afternoon.
He was on time, very polite, and brought all of his own supplies. He was at my place for just over four hours and I am absolutely amazed by how my place looks now. It is cleaner than when we moved in.
Floors are spotless, kitchen is sparkling and the bathroom looks unreal.
I shopped around and his rates are amongst the best in town– I cannot speak highly enough of the great job he did at our place.
I am a return customer for sure. I plan to have him come by at least once a month from now on.
AWESOME. If you need someone to clean your place and not charge an arm and a leg– Shannon is your man.

I hate cleaning. Hate it more than just about anything in the whole world. It’s taken me a long time to come to grips that I should just hire someone to do it (but how bourgeois!) for me.
Every time I’ve hired someone off Craig’s List I’ve felt a little let down. Where is my sparkling house? Why did they move all my shampoo out of the tub? Did they have to ram the vacuum cleaner into the furniture and chip it? Must they clean everything with bleach? Of course, I feel like a total ass complaining about this so I just pay and figure I’ll find someone better the next time.
I called Marvelous Clean and Shannon was able to come out the next day. He called a few hours before the appointment to make sure we were still on for the cleaning and didn’t even bitch about parking on Capitol Hill.
He then proceeded to clean every nook and cranny in my house. Who knew my blinds were so dusty? Who knew that it would look a lot better if someone actually straightened up the piles of magazines? Who knew how amazingly clean my house could be!!!
Once Shannon was done cleaning my place I was walking around marveling at how clean everything was. Now I understand the name Marvelous Clean! This was exactly the type of luxurious house cleaning I needed to fully plant me in the Yuppie demographic. You can keep the SUV, I’ll keep the house cleaner.
