New York Barber Cuts

I have never been more pleased with a haircut! I get a precision cut with a number 2 fade. The haircut looks great even after more than 2 months. If you want a great cut without the attitude of some of the other places around Seattle this is your man.

Wasn’t sure what to expect based on prices. But a friend referred me and we went together. This Barber is a total gentlemen. Very nice to talk to and did a great job on my haircut and eye brows. I left totally happy. Can’t beat that price for a simple but precise cut.
Prices were as advertised. I think a little respect for someone goes a long way. I enjoyed chatting with this man and so he was polite and did a good job. He is a Russian man from Moscow who lived in Manhattan. Most of you seattlelites will never understand that upbringing. If you’re looking for a sweet and soft Barber, go get a gay one at 7. It’s ok! If u just want an affordable quick cut, this is a great place.

The man working is not a barber at all, he’s a salesman. $ 10 turned into $ 15 and left me with a half shaved head. i regret leaving my $ 50 barber, i got cheap and this was the outcome i only blame myself. i strongly suggest passing up the $ 10 cut. he is rude and pushy.

So I am a guy who does not even own a brush or comb. I am a guy who usually just goes to one of the multiple $ 9.99 asian (oh god, here come the pc police) haircut places on lake city way and am always happy as well as complimented on my hair.
why oh why did i give this place a shot. never in my 50 years have i had a haircut that i considered bad til now. bald on the sides barely a trim on top. looks like a friggen mohawk, slide down he says while cutting y hair… wtf? chair not adjustable?

If you’re one of those submissive bottom dudes and enjoys having an asshole around you, then Igor the barber is for you. If you’re having one of those «Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of 85^th Street» fantasies, again, Igor the barber might fulfill that for you.
The first time I walked into that shop, Igor was busy with another client. I can see that the client looked miserable sitting in that chair like he’s waiting execution. I sat down for 10 seconds and excused myself to get a cold pop next door to the gas station. I went to my car instead sat down and drove off.
3 months later I came back out of desperation because I have to work a red eye and really needed a haircut. I wish I could’ve left town with a slight long hair and waited to go somewhere else. The cut wasn’t even that great. Very amateur. I had cuts with student barbers before and it was much better than what I got form Igor. The guy can’t cut hair that’s why he uses the electric razor and goes by numbers. Lazy cut.
Basic cut/​Precision cut — no difference, he’s just basically asking you for more $$ to cut your hair a notch above from his default style.
I never came back to this place and I don’t see that happening again in the future.
And yes, he is a mean prick.

Five stars if what you’re looking for is a fast, thorough, well done, and cheap haircut. I cant speak for what the other reviewers have been saying but my experience was exactly what ive been wanting from a barber for years.
I show up, about an hour before closing. The owner/​barber greets me and politely asks me to wait a minute while he finishes washing his hands. After that, we directly get down to business.
(and this is my favorite part, the part that insures ill be coming back): I ask for a number two all the way around but he explaibs why I would be better off with a one and one half. He is polite about it and i never felt put upon like ither reviewers — i can see why someone would be put off but i really appreciated his honesty and frankness.
(for reference, he suggested a 1.5 so it would blend in better with my starter of a bald spot — i topic i brought up, not him).
Small talk was present, but never forced. He’s a pretty funny dude (in a good way) and i bet he has some pretty awesome stories about his travels.
Second best part: the haircut took ten minutes and cost five dollars. FIVE DOLLARS.
I will be back.

If I could give a negative rating I would, if I could call the police… I would have, as a matter of fact after this experience I think I may need to see a shrink, or let my hair grow long again, going to the dentist will be a pleasant experience in comparison!
WHY DIDN’T I READ THE REVIEWS HERE FIRST?
First off, I need to admit that I should have known better, you get what you pay for and this was relatively cheap, $ 9.99 or something like that, but seriously folks, how difficult is it to give someone a simple businessman’s cleanup cut? I last had my hair cut about six weeks ago so it was a little grown in, but it was proportional to how you should trim it (just picture the standard George Clooney /​Carey Grant look (visualize the hair anyway, not my face, for that we’ll have to go with a Spencer Tracy, which I don’t mind given that Katherine Hepburn loved him).
So here’s the clincher (and the part where everyone says «WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM SHAWN, ARE YOU A LUNATIC??»), well, um, err, I’d actually been here once before (I say embarrassingly), and it was a bad experience then — when I got home that time everyone asked me if I joined the Marines, and I’m not saying that’s necessarily a bad look but my friends knew it wasn’t my look and I can assure that the sample picture on his wall that I pointed to and showed him as a reference looked nothing like a Marine’s bare naked side buzz cut! And my son was also ravaged a bit by the shears of the New York madman with an Eastern European accent (perhaps he’s from a country with a grudge against Irish Americans?) *just kidding, I’m just saying it was freaky.
So, here it is about a year or two later, I’m in a rush, and this place is near my house and I think, why not, it’s so straight forward, I just tell him to go easy on the sides… right? Yikes, I sat down and asked for a trim, take about a half inch off, clean it up, make me look presentable, taper the back like it was six weeks ago, no problem. Well… apparently it WAS a problem for him, he said something about the fact that if he only «trims» the sides and tapers the back that I’ll look feminine (whatever that means, and I’m not sure it’s even possible to make me look feminine anyway, no matter how you cut my hair, trust me, I’ve dressed in drag once and it wasn’t pretty!). So, he proceeds to suggest a few things that make me nervous given the seeming simplicity of my request and the fact that last time he had his way with the sides of my head as if it was his personal mission to shave everyone that way, a fetish perhaps, and when I tried to ask him what he meant to make sure we were on the same page he said something like «when I tell you something, you don’t need to repeat it back to me», he said this twice! He seemed angry, and I seemed terrified (not seemed, I was terrified, or getting there quickly), and even though he already strapped me in the chair with the bib (noose) around my neck, and watered me down with the spray bottle, and even got a few pulls of the comb through my hair I jumped up before he could grab his scissors or shaver, I ripped off the plastic sheet of a noose and said «dude, you are freaking me out, I have to get out of here», and get out of there as fast as I could is exactly what I did! Can you say Sweeney Todd?
Ok, in all fairness to those that have had a good or acceptable $ 9.99 experience here all I can say is that if you really have no qualms about how your hair looks after he’s done, or if you are really into the shaved sides look (as many are) then this place could be just the deal you’re looking for, just don’t ask questions or suggest much more than «have at it bro, enjoy yourself, my head is your canvas, I trust you, you da man!» ;-)
Wow, what an adventure.

This place is for men who have been getting simple clipper cuts their whole life and no one else. Expect the opposite of pampering, but do expect a clean, sharp cut for less than you’ll get it anywhere else.
You need to know what to expect when you are heading into this place:
1. Your cut will always cost $ 9.99 – Very inexpensive.
2. It is a clipper cut. He will never use scissors.
3. He cuts hair his own way. There is a chart showing lengths – determine what you want and say «that one.» This is a straight up clipper cut with little variation, so if that is your cut, he’ll give it to you, if not, don’t go here.
4. The man is methodical and will position your head incessantly. Keep very still. On the plus side, you will never get home and find one of those rogue strands of uncut hair.
5. This guy is taciturn. Don’t expect much conversation. Some people will definitely find him rude, though I don’t think he is trying to be insulting, the guy is just a brusque kind of person.
As the mixed reviews show, you’ll likely either love this guy or hate him, and a few, like me, will take the good with the bad. He gives perhaps the best straight-​up clipper cut I’ve ever had.

This place is great. The barber’s personality is pleasant. He is Russian so you have to understand there personalities but if you do you will see he has a great sense of humor and does wish to please you. He is a matter of fact guy who takes his job seriously. He will give you a good clean even cut the way you want it.
This guy is my barber and the price it right!

I wish I’d read Chris A’s review before I visited this place. I’m old enough to remember the old school barber shop my Dad took me to as a kid. I’d recently decided I needed to find a barber shop like that. I’d had one bad hair cut after another. Granted some were better than others, but when you’re getting your hair cut at places like Super Cuts or Rudy’s, how good of a cut you get depends on which ‘stylist’ you draw. I realized that I’d never gotten a bad haircut from an actual barber.
So I’d been seeing the sign for New York Barber Cuts on my daily bus ride in to work, and checked out the reviews here. So I walked in figuring I might have found my new barber. My first clue that was not to be the case was when I noticed that his back counter was strikingly sparse. He had only the most basic of tools out, and none of the products and equipment one would expect.
I almost walked out right at the start because of Igor’s attitude problem. Like Chris, I’ve been telling barbers and stylists how I wanted my hair cut for over 40 years. Everything I asked for, he had to argue with. Language that every other barber had used was suddenly turned on it’s head in Igor’s way of thinking. I had to tell him I didn’t care what he thought would look better, I wanted my hair a certain way. Once he started cutting, I was certain I’d never be back. Sure, I’m used to a barber being very business-​like, and manipulating my head as he needed. Igor acted like he normally works with corpses. The way he handled my head and his tools was both clumsy and amateurish.
To his credit, the haircut I got looked nice, and it was almost what I asked for. I was really pissed that he cut off the sideburns I’d specifically said to leave, and just square the bottom. I didn’t like that I was shedding hair until I could get home to a shower because this guy couldn’t be bothered to even comb my hair when he was done cutting.
The bottom line is that the only reason I’d ever go to this guy is if the money was all that mattered. I’d rather go to Rudy’s and roll the dice on my haircut than suffer in Igor’s chair again.

TERRIBLE. I was very excited to try this place. I was hoping to receive a quality new York style haircut and was disappointed when the barber not only seemed to not know what a fade was but proceeded to tell me how I should have my haircut. the haircut i received was terrible and when I began to inform him of my dissatisfaction he told me he would charge me AGAIN for a separate haircut. I will not go back to this barber shop.

I can now proclaim that this is my barber shop in Seattle, and it will remain my barber shop for as long as I live in Seattle. New York Barber Cuts is exactly what a guy wants in a barber shop. The owner is absolutely amazing and hilarious, and he will make sure your hair looks exactly the way you want it to. The owner has been cutting hair longer than I have been alive and the fact that he moved here from New York provides some interesting stories.
The best part about this shop though, all haircuts are $ 9.99!!! That’s right, $ 9.99!!! You hand him a ten dollar bill, he hands you back a penny. Again, it’s $ 9.99!!! Way cheaper than most barber shops in Seattle and you will get an amazing haircut, guaranteed.
