While I love shopping local I don’t appreciate how many of the employees here give you the cold shoulder when you walk in. Makes me wonder if this is a horrible place to work if no one can afford to smile, it’s surprising considering it’s a neighborhood shop.
On top of that, prices are a bit more than what you’d expect from other locations or online. But I usually don’t mind paying a little more to support my local community. That said, it would be easier to swallow if the employees would warm up a little bit.

This store is one of those wonderful discoveries for me: I got here out of curiosity by simply strolling the streets of that area of Cap Hill.
The moment you walk in, you will relax. You will hear the water fountain trickling somewhere in the background. Also you will smell a really nice scent of lavender. The wood floors under your feet will make you fell comfortable. I almost felt like getting a massage treatment in the same space would be just so natural.
The store itself has a more of a vintage quirky feel. My friend talked me into getting one of those relaxing herb bottles. I totally didn’t believed in those (at that times) and just wanted to give in as he was really convincing that I should at least just give it a try. There is so many too choose from! Prices are very reasonable too: anywhere between $ 8 to $ 12.
Later I was so surprised how strong they are! I took some before going to bed and got relaxed so quickly. Soon I was breathing normally and just listening to my calm breath relaxed me straight to sleep.
I look forward to coming here again and checking out more of their remedies. This area of the Hill has a more calm, residential feel and it’s very nice to walk around with plenty of restaurants and parks nearby. I highly recommend it!

Came in for allergies — left with some bee pollen, nettles, and homeopathic drops of Washington specific allergens, as well as some tea to help with anxiety. I was very pleased with how helpful the staff was in answering my questions, showing me the options for my needs and just with the general variety of options for any ailment. Oh, and if you aren’t pleased with your purchase, you can return within 30 days with your receipt!
If you’re just looking for tea, this is also the place to come, so many different types of loose leaf that they mix in house!

Love it here. They have well priced quality herbs, helpful employees, wonderful selection and grey books! The only off thing is that some honey I bought went bad after about 3 weeks. But I don’t blame them for that. I could visit here everyday. Love their selection of stuff for kids as well

This place is really helpful if you need any vitamins, herbs, or teas. They have a large selection and their prices aren’t too bad. When I visited they even had a naturopath who could help you choose items best suited to your needs. Unfortunately the things I bought didn’t help me, but it seems that the virus I got was pretty heavy duty. The vitamins I take every day usually keep me from getting sick, but somehow I still got sick and became incredibly ill (after not having been sick for close to a year). Then the things that typically help me get over any illness within a couple days didn’t work at all, leaving me getting worse each day. So I visited Rainbow to find some other remedies that could possibly help. I bought the items the naturopath recommended, but didn’t get better any faster. Though, I think it was just a really strong virus that nothing really could have stopped. Overall, I highly recommend Rainbow due to their great customer service and large selection. Though, you should be warned that sometimes the treatments you get just won’t help (which is true of any medication, natural or not).

Yes, I am definitely a fan. Friendly staff, nice layout. Note: there’s a candle supply area, herbs for smudging, etc. Calendars, We’moon, etc. The bookstore area at the back isn’t huge but seems well-​chosen. This is Seattle retail at its best. Try stopping by at Remedy Teas down the street afterwards for a refresher.

This place is awesome!
I stumbled upon here randomly during the street fair and am glad I did.
Suffering from various health issues I like to do my best in using natural products to remedy.
Bulk herbs, teas, oils, and supplements for all sorts of things. I was able to find several items I couldn’t find elsewhere. The staff is super friendly and was able to help answering several of my questions and even provided recommendations.
They even have stuff for your pets!
It’s quite a large store so I suggest looking over all the awesome things they supply!

I would only recommend this if you are looking for bulk herbs, you want guidance from staff while searching for vitamins, and/​or you don’t want to support a big chain like Whole Foods and would rather shop local. Otherwise, you will find all that’s here and more at Whole Foods or the Central Co-​Op on Madison. I have compared prices of my favorite vitamins between the three places, and Rainbow is always the most expensive and they have less selection compared to the other two. For instance, they hardly had any hair-​skin-​nails supplements here except silica supplements, but I couldn’t find many with Biotin or MSM. I also searched for essential oils here and noticed that Rainbow carries less selection that Whole Foods (i.e. I couldn’t find Rosehip or Tamanu oil here, but could at Whole Foods). They do, however, have a much wider array of medicinal herbs and tinctures. Both the liquid kind, pill kind, and then there is a bulk herbs counter in the back where the staff scoops dried herbs out for you. There is also some resource/​education center in the back where I saw things like ear candles.
But if you’re looking for protein powders, basic vitamins, personal items, skin oils, etc. there are other stores out there that have better prices & varieties.

There’s nothing like being completely ignored (not even a ‘hello’) in an otherwise empty establishment by two employees who have been quietly following me around for 15 minutes that makes me refuse to give a business my money.
Their selection is good but not good enough to be ignored and followed while I shop.

This place really stands out as a natural remedies store but also as a cosmetic store, and retail shop! They really have a bit of everything here, greeting cards, burdock blend, makeup, essential oils, and the list goes on and on.
Rainbow remedies is my first stop shop, and I definitely wish more people knew about this place as it has almost everything! Staff is always happy to help and incredibly knowledgeable! So happy to have this on the hill!

Nice place. Well-​stocked store. Knowledgeable and friendly staff who tell you the truth instead of pushing you to buy something you don’t need.

I had so much fun browsing and looking through a large selection of natural/​herbal products for a make-​at-​home body scrub. Although prices may be more expensive than other supermarket chains, this store has a lot of variety for you to choose from and is definitely an excellent local store to visit if you are looking for something organic/​local or any sort of good health/​non chemical products.
I ended up buying organic coconut oil, organic raw honey, honey scooper and eucalyptus concentrated oil for around $ 45…not the most frugal prices but I really enjoyed the experiences seeing different options and asking their staff about some other products (their staff are really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and would not hesitate to provide you with more information about the products you are interested in!) while shopping in there! :)
It’s definitely one of the few friendly local stores that I wish would never go out of business because of the expansion of giant supermarket/​stores in the area these days!

Love this store! They have an impressive herbal selection and all kinds of natural supplements/​medicine. I go there regularly to buy soaps, cute or elegant cards and ecover cleaning products, and just like any excuse to go there because of the pleasant, relaxing atmosphere (they sometimes burn incense, and there’s a little fountain in there).

Best Yarrow & St. John’s Wort in the city. The Holy Basil here is top notch. I’ve purchased loose leaf teas and herbs from other places, but I realize after sipping stale ‘herby’ tasting teas, I need to only purchase dried healing plants from this place.
The staff is great, cheerful and if you are not sure about what to get, they will ask you open ended questions and then give you suggestions. The toothpaste, vitamins, and lotion are pricey, but that’s to be expected from a locally owned small business. I can’t recommend this place enough! Go here for all of your medicinal plant needs!

I went there to look for a specific product. They had it and even, what I consider, to be a better alternative. I asked the sales person her opinion. She explained me the benefits without hard selling. At the end, she even recommended me to use first the product I had already bought in another store and then if needed to buy this alternative product.
I went back home and finally after reading the instructions and usage of the first product I bought, I decided to return it to the other store and to buy the alternative I found at rainbow natural remedies.
While I just started the treatment, I don’t know if it will work. But I must say that I appreciated the fact that she explained me both and let me take my decision without hard selling me.

The best natural goods store on capitol hill. I regularly come here to pick up shower water filters, herbal extracts, awesome created-​in-​store teas, aromatherapy inhalers, cosmetic products (hair, deodorant), blank gel caps, empty cosmetic jars and spray bottles for make-​at-​home products. You get the idea.
The staff is extremely knowledgeable and will go out of their way to help you. They leave you alone to shop at your leisure unless you indicate you need help. I like that over pushy salespeople.
And for the woo woo-​inclined, the store has great vibes. :)

The selection was great here, almost too good as most of it was (duh) pricey. But the quality was reflected in the price. I came in for a tincture to help me sleep and walked out feeling like I had plenty of options to choose from (7 if I remember correctly).
They allow dogs in the store, which is great because my dog is always with me, but I wish they had told me that before I left her crying outside for twenty minutes. Also I stood in front of the sleepy remedies forever looking confused as the two people working went about their business. Considering I was one of two people in the store a «hello» or «are you looking for something specific» would have been greatly appreciated. I finally had to approach them for help and while I was given a recommendation on which tincture to try, there was no explanation as to why that one worked so I am trusting their judgement and crossing my fingers.
Overall for the selection, price, and the fact that you can’t find a lot of this stuff anywhere else I was more than satisfied.

Great selection! Lots of teas, both medicinal and just plain old drinkin’ ones, lots of cruelty-​free cosmetics and body products, lots of oils and herbs. There are several options for most products at several price points. I was able to find a small vial of tea tree oil for my healing cartilage piercing for less than $ 6.
I didn’t interact with the staff so I can’t comment on the quality of service, but everything else was great. I’ll definitely keep this place in mind for future naturopathic needs.

Excellent high-​quality herb and supplement store. AND MORE. You can get many herbal, old-​school health formulations and teas. If you need some advice, the staff is knowledgeable and steers towards your needs not towards higher prices. Locally owned and operated. I believe they also offer appointments for Naturopathic consultation — Inquire at the back desk.
The only major downside is the store’s staff lacks consistency in providing this STELLAR quality and service. There are several wonderful, helpful, informed and friendly staff and also few strays in the mix that are either overbearing and/​or nonexistent. That said, I go for the high quality items, and they really do deliver.
They are very open-​minded, very knowledgable, and know bucket-​loads about products, suppliers, and processes… So if you are looking for some hard to find item, look no further. They will in some case, special order or put you in touch directly with the supplier.
Also you can wear makeup that doesn’t pollute your body, Rainbow offers many healthy health and beauty products that are petroleum and chemical-​additive free.

I have been looking all over for 2 days now for Cayenne Pepper in a capsule form, I’m sure GNC or one of them big chain places have it but I didn’t want to leave the hill, Cayenne is good for pain I am told, and is a good anti inflammatory with out the side effects so gonna try it out
and I would rather support local if I can
so went in here today and sure enough they had what I wanted
