Sagen Group Property Management

I used Sagen Group as my property manager for our condo unit in North Seattle, for several years. I cannot say enough about the professionalism that Jenifer, with Sagen Group, displayed while we were her clients. She was always available when we needed her expertise. She was a joy to work with and I would highly recommend working with this management company because of her.

I’ve been a tenant of this property management group for 4 years in a house on 54^th Street in Seattle. Besides waiting almost 4 weeks to get the bathroom lights to work again, the first three years were OK; well, except for the slow draining pipes. I finally brought someone in to snake out the pipes and came to find out the pipes are extremely rusted.
Anyhow, this past year has been a nightmare. The Sagen group is slow to respond to maintenance issues. They will answer calls and emails immediately, but it can take days to weeks to actually get someone out to the house. I ended up finding out this past year that the foundation leaks. Yes, there is an unfinished basement but the owners stored their stuff down there so it couldn’t be that bad, I thought. I had moved personal items to a room in the basement and it flooded during one of our good downpours. I also noticed mold and fungus growing down there. Sagen’s response was «It’s Seattle. Put your stuff on crates. And clean the mold with bleach.» Really? I was never informed the foundation leaked when I moved in and to me that’s something the property manager should share. I lost personal property from that flood.
Second, 10 months ago, I notified Sagen of mold seeping through the master bathroom, resulting in damage not only to the wall but to the floor. It took me contacting the Seattle code inspector before Sagen took me seriously. I was told «The owner’s in the designing stages so we don’t know when that will be fixed. Stop using the bathroom until further notice». Another, really? There was no «Sorry for the inconvenience or let us take $$$ off your rent until this issue is resolved». Just recently contractors started showing up to the house to look at the problem. Unfortunately, they are not giving any notice before entry so I have no idea when they are in and out of the house. The Sagen group doesn’t seem to think that’s important.
The reason I am writing this review is because I’m moving out and I do not want to see anyone else have to put up with the total disregard and lack of respect this company has shown me this past year. I am a good tenant. I pay the rent on time and I only contact them when there is a major issue I think they need to address. I am not the owner of the house. It is not my responsibility to fix the foundation, replace the rusted pipes, remove the mold and fix the bathroom. It is my responsibility to notify the owner or property manager of the problem and they are to fix it.

I can only judge from my experience working with Ann from Sagen group. Ann was the worst person to work with, she complained to me about her job, she was always late in returning phone calls and was very unprofessional. I would not recommend Sagen group to manage your properties

I was looking around the Fremont /​Queen Anne areas for an apartment and drove by one of Sagen’s properties. It was in a great location and so I left a voicemail on their mainline while I was nearby and asked for a call back. No response… About two days later, I sent an email. No response… A few days after that, I tried one last time and I sent a Contact Form through their website. No response…
This happened during the summer but I had my Unilocal review ‘saved’ and not posted for a while and I finally decided to post it. I just wanted to note that this was pretty unprofessional. Regardless of whether or not the unit had been leased, a quick contact would have been a nice gesture (even just one of those generic «sorry, the vacancy has been filled but please check our website for blah blah blah»). Who knows, maybe I would have been interested in hearing about other upcoming vacancies in another building… or spreading the word about one of their vacancies to a friend. Oh well.

As a tenant, I couldn’t ask for more personal service from a property manager. Yesterday I reported that our chimney sweep couldn’t get the chimney to draft because of mortar damage and today Sagen had a guy here to do an inspection. He submitted his estimate of the brick chimney damage, cleaned up the mess left by the chimney sweep that was keeping the stovepipe from drafting, and even helped build a fire in the woodstove before leaving. Then Laura Sagen called to tell me she has a vacancy coming up in an area where my daughter wants to live — and she’s holding off advertising until we look at it. Not many property managers are that accommodating, and although they clearly work for the benefit of the landlord (as I saw in another review), they take good care of their tenants as well. I would be delighted to have my daughter under Sagen’s wing.

I have recently transfered my property management needs to Sagen Group from a larger company in the Seattle area. This summer has been a pleasant one due to the change in personal business service that we have received from Jenifer. The fast communication and clear responses are very appreciated. I would recommend them to anyone looking for that personal touch when it comes to property management needs.

I’ve never written a bad review yet need to warn potential renters and property owners to steer clear of this group. They allowed our property to be destroyed by rodents and a flood over this last winter. Please notice that the only positive reviews these people have is through there own writings. We have a large claim against them and would advise you to keep your money better invested in a more reputable group.

I support individuals with disabilities living in the community and I’ve learned to turn to the Sagen group for my client’s housing needs. They are caring, compassionate and understanding. Any time that we have called them for a repair it was completed with utter swiftness.
I would recommend the Sagen Group.
