good place for sausages and drinks… ambiance… a good pub.

I couple of friends and I just grabbed a beer here. Despite me giving eye contact and waving down wait staff, it took 30 min to get our check and another 15 to get them to pick it up. I literally had to find the waitress to run our cards.

The fries are made with their own special seasoning and very tasteful, the coleslaw on the side is the perfect compliment to anything on the menu. The place can get very busy and sometimes full, but there is almost always seating available outside or in the back near the bar. Plenty of tv’s for sporting events as well as weekly specials. The servers are always very helpful and patient, especially for someone like me who scans the entire menu multiple times even after going there so often. Definitely recommended if you enjoy a high-quality burger, cheesesteak, or sausage sandwich.

Heavenly wings paired with the must order curry ketchup. LOVE this place. Totter Tots are only ok. French fries are good. Pretzels are one of the best in the area. While I understand it gets busy, I’d still suggest a couple of the wait staff to be more attentive. Overall, HIGHLYRECOMMENDED!

I go here at least twice a week to grab a drink after work. I love that it is a chill pub vibe where I can relax, chat to the bartenders, and watch tv. Service is always great. And I recommend the sausage gumbo.

Definitely a fun little bar and eatery. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Drinks are delicious, refreshing, and a little mysterious – mystery shot? I think ours was a mix of Bailey’s, vodka, and something else that blended really well. Chili definitely hits the spot on a cold evening with a hearty side of bread. Array of beers on tap as well. Fries are a little too crisp for my taste, the oil soaked all the way through each fry, but still edible. Flat screens all over so you can watch whatever game is on at the time. Definitely lots of college students present, many had their Macbooks and iPads out on the table while they were drinking, eating, and watching the game.

It was my first time coming to this place. Food is okay, standard German food but nothing spetacular. The Drama: You have to seat yourself here so while I was looking for seats for my wife and I, I unknowingly walked through an open pathway, turns out it runs through the kitchen… first the waiter yells out«hey don’t go through here next time!» I was past half way so I said sorry and proceeded, THEN ‘The Chef’ goes f’ing postal, YELLS at me to get out, then kept giving me an uncomfortable, angry stare-down throughout the ENTIRE evening. I’m not sure what happened to this man, maybe someone forgot to change his diaper this evening. Later I apologized and told him I didn’t see the sign because it was very small and hard to see. I also asked why he kept giving me such a dirty look. Then the awesome chef tells me «I give everybody dirty looks, don’t bother me!» I don’t know how what posesses this man to be so rude and angry to customers but I wish him well and hope he gets some help real soon.

We were there for the UW/UO football game and while we were watching the game, enjoying our drinks and eating our food, a cockroach crawled on our table we crushed it before it had a chance to crawl away. We immediately called our waitress over to tell her and she went to inform her manager. About 10 minutes went by without anyone talking to us, we had to grab a different waitress to tell her to get the manager. Eventually the manager came over and we told him that we would pay for our drinks, but we would not pay for the food. He told us that their neighbors were fumigating and that this normally never happens. As he was grabbing our plates, he casually remarks«one little bug and you won’t eat?» I was perfectly willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, and their waitresses did an amazing job dealing with a crappy situation, but the manager treated us like garbage.

Their junkyard dog was really good. Nice place to get hot dogs, sausages, and beer. Plenty of seating especially for the crowds of University of Washington students. Patio seating also available.

Seattle’s «Wurst» Restaurant! I think Shultzy’s is one of the best restaurants on the Ave in terms of cleanliness, food quality, and overall atmosphere. It’s a friendly pub feel. Prices are a little higher than some of the Ave dives, but I don’t feel like I’m risking food poisoning by eating here! Granted, I’ve only been here for happy hour, and from the sound of things the value on the non-HH menu isn’t as good. I really like the sauerkraut and the currywurst. There’s a great selection of beer here, from local to German. The fries are crispy and thin, and aren’t my favorite. I prefer thicker fries where you can get a crunch outside but also some pillowy potato goodness on the inside. But I’m not going to hold that against them star-wise since it’s a personal preference. The happy hour prices here are good, especially the bratwurst sandwich for $ 6.(They make their own bratwurst and some of the other sausages.) I really want to try one of the pretzels with cheese dip! I love the sense of humor they have here. For instance, on their menu the foodborne illness warning is phrased more creatively than usual: «Eating raw or undercooked food may cause foodborne illness and/or death. But, if you’re feeling lucky, it may be worth the risk.» Be warned, it can be hard to fit a large group in here. I’ve been a couple times with a group of about 8 – 10 people(I don’t remember the exact number). There is one table towards the back that has a bench, and one time we got that table, but the other time we basically had to make do with smaller tables pushed together, which worked okay, but the people in the back corner had some trouble getting in and out. This is a great place for salty, cheesy, greasy comfort food that actually doesn’t feel too gross in the tummy.

Very solid comfort food restaurant. I’m convinced this is the closest thing to an Applebee’s that we have in the U-district, or at least on the Ave. Food: Salty, greasy, and heavy. in the best ways possible. It makes me feel like a kid when I eat here. I love their pretzel with cheese, and their chili cheese fries. Pretty much anything you get here won’t blow you away, but will do enough to keep you coming back for a late night snack or to satisfy a craving.

Great food, terrible service. If you don’t mind your waiter/waitress only coming to your table once after ordering, then this place is great! The wings and the cheese fries were perfect. Our waitress never came by to check up on us except to collect our bill.

Schultzy’s is rad. Good beer, good sausages, delicious cheesesteaks, and my favorite fries in the Seattle area. Seriously, they’re thin, crispy, seasoned, and I can easily plow thru a basket of them. Try ‘em out!

Forget the hot dogs, it’s all about the wiiiiiinnngggsss! Just kidding, I’ve never tried the sausages here but the wings and fries are great bar foods. The wings are so crispy and delicious. They come with dipping sauces instead of being drowned in them. This is a plus for people like me who enjoy crispy wings on their own or with sauce — depends on my mood. They’re exceptionally crispy, like the BWW hype has nothing on these wings. I’m surprised that I’ve never ventured in here before, it’s at the beginning of the Ave but never seemed that interesting to me. I’m happy to have foodie friends who force me to try new restaurants I normally wouldn’t have gone into. Along with the wings, their cheese fries are money. You love cheese? You love fries? You’ll love these. They’re thin cut fries but super filling! Haven’t tried their drink options yet, but I’ll probably stumble in here again soon.

Shultzy’s gets two distinct ratings: 5 for their happy hour menu, 3 for the regular menu. So a 4 overall. Why? Well, their drink and food specials during happy hour are fantastic. Its a great place to go after a class or seminar to get a drink and some sweet potato fries. Just FYI: Their fries are of the shoestring variety so if you prefer thicker fries, try something else on the menu instead. You can get absolutely full and tipsy for less than $ 10, especially on the day they have double-vodka slamminade specials. Drink them with caution! Their regular menu is tasty but overpriced. I’ve had one of their cheesesteaks and while it was good, the sandwich felt smaller than a Subway 6″ and had less filling. It was served with a mountain of shoestring fries but I would have preferred a more substantial sandwich(which was very tasty) than a ton of fries. But you know how these things go… They can get really packed, especially on rainy days so make sure you have a second option in line if you’re planning on a large happy-hour get together!

Man, haven’t really been on the Ave in years and it’s still pretty much the same. I came here with some friends from out of town because we used to go here back during college days. It was around 3 on a Saturday and it was pretty empty. One of my friends thought it was a good idea to order«the boot» to start the shenanigans with. Food is ok German food, but they have a good selection of beer and of course the boot. It’s a fun place to come drink and catch up with old college buddies.

It’s what you’d expect– a German bierpub and sausage haus that hits its stride with a college crowd. Pros: good food and variety of selections, and the patrons are mostly grad students and faculty. Cons: tap list is so-so(late October and there’s no bock, doppelbock, or Dunkelweiss on the list?!?) and the prices are a bit up there, even for U-district. If you’re looking for a place to grab a quick pint without undergrads hanging around, then this is a fine choice. But if you want good German food AND good German beer on tap, for more reasonable pricing, you can find that in SLU, phinney, or Ballard.

This place is really weird and just out there. I’ve been here a few times and it just gets worse and worse, with each visit. Today will probably be the last time I come here. Soooo we usually just stop in for a drink and a snack. I guess they usually have HH going on so it ends up being pretty cheap and that makes up for their awkward service. Well, today we stopped in around 11, after the Germany game. Ya, they were probably busy for the game and in a «transition» period but there were at least 5 people serving on the floor and it took at least 5 mins for someone to come talk to us, even tho there was only 3 other people in the bar. Someone checked our ID’s and gave us menus, a girl checked ID’s again(that’s annoying) and took our drink orders, another guy brought drinks and took food orders, and someone brought our food, and at the end someone else checked us out. Wtf? So weird… Whatever, all the servers are a little off and a bit weird. That’s fine but we ordered a wiener that came with sauerkraut and fries. The bee-friend wanted cheese sauce with the fries and it was $ 2 extra. probably not worth it but okie… so the food comes out and I’m definitely not impressed with his $ 11.50 plate. Everything taste fine but for the price, I expected more. We had 2 beers and his $ 9.50 plate, plus $ 2 cheese sauce lol which was the size of a side of ranch for $ 24 and so almost $ 30 with tip, that was split 6 ways I’m guessing? B/c we had so many random people helping us. Overall, I left very unsatisfied and will most likely not be returning.

After the U-District street fair, I fell in love with the hot dogs from Tokyo Dog. After a long day of getting ready to move out, I was in a pickle between Shultzy’s or a nice juicy burger. I started to think about the flavor bursting Tokyo Dog that I had. Suddenly, I started to craving a really good sausage. I’ve heard mixed things about Shultzy’s and I really wanted to give it a shot because they specialize in sausages so they must be good right? One thing that most people complain about is the service. I completely agree with the others on this. However, we can’t expect much when the place is more like a pub than a restaurant. You seat yourself when the place isn’t busy(it’s crowded during the Superbowl, World Cup or any sport games). We took a seat and a waiter saw us and handed us our menus. I was stuck between the Bratwurst(which is their most popular sausage) and the Andouille(which is a pork sausage made up of 16 different spices/ingredients). Intrigued I decided to go for the Andouille since I see and hear of it less often. All the hot dog like sandwiches come with grilled onions and peppers. My partner, being the spice lover he is, decided to get the Rajin’ Cajun. You get a side of coleslaw as well as fries. However, you can substitute the coleslaw for my fries or substitute the fries for sweet potato fries for $ 2 more. I also heard that their chili is divine, but I have not tried it yet. After 6 minutes our food came out. We were excited and had high hopes and expectations. Unfortunately, I don’t think I should have compared it to Tokyo Dog. The sausage itself was good and full of flavor but that was the only thing that was carrying the flavor. The bread was decent. It isn’t your normal hot dog bun. It’s half of a loaf of some sort of bread. There’s no sauce or anything that goes along with the sausage which is why I think it lacked the flavor burst I was looking for. The onions and peppers were mediocre and so was the coleslaw. I actually put the coleslaw on top of my sandwich to try to give it more flavor. It didn’t work that well though. The Andouille wasn’t spicy and it didn’t have a kick to it. It actually tasted pretty mild and I wouldn’t be able to tell you the 16 ingredients in it. Everything sort of meshes together. My partner said that the Rajin’ Cajun was decent as well but not as good as Tokyo Dog. It truly lacked the bursting flavor that we thought it would have. The sausage could have had more juiciness to it, but they were still alright. The fries are really something though. I think I may have enjoyed the fries more than the sausage sandwich. They are skinny fries and they don’t feel as greasy and oily as thick cut fries. They do give you a ton of fries so it’ll leave you satisfied when it comes to the fatty saltiness that everyone loves. Our server never came back to check up on us and we never had a refill on our waters. When we wanted to order to-go for my brother we had to flag someone down. However, they were kind about our to-go order and wrapped it up nicely for us and labeled the boxes. Though we did tell the waiter we wanted our to-go to be on a separate check and she forgot. In the end we decided not to waste our time and just paid for all of it on one check. I’m not sure if I will be back because it left me feeling like the place was just average. However, it’s still decently filling and does cure a sausage and fries craving. In total for our Andouille and Rajin Cajun we paid around 24 $. A bit pricey, but worth it to see what it would taste like.
