Dr. Wang is the best acupuncturist I’ve ever been to.
2002 — Treatment for chronic headaches completely resolved with one session.
2003 – 2004 — Four month treatment for depression and to quit smoking. Have been a non-​smoker ever since.
(During a long break saw over 10 other acupuncturists all over the world for various complaints and general health.)
2015 — Returned to Dr. Wang for fertility treatments. It’s too expensive with too much on the line to go to just anyone.
Dr. Wang has also been treating a recent severe ankle sprain for me. I couldn’t even walk into the office without support. After the first treatment I could walk with about half the pain. A week later and another hour and it feels 80% improved. The difference from before and after treatment is remarkable. The needles hurt really bad for a while, then I fell asleep, and woke up amazed.
Even though Dr. Wang gets better results faster and more efficiently than any other acupuncturist, there are elements of the clinic itself that aren’t 5 star. Maybe 1 or 2 stars compared to other offices.
The treatment tables are a cheap and uncomfortable.
In one room there is an air conditioner at the head of the table which is odd since TCM makes a big deal about protecting the head from cold wind. (I request the warmer room.)
It’s true that Dr. Wang isn’t talkative and doesn’t do any «extras» that might be common in other practices. I’m far more interested in the results than the fluff though.

Diagnosed with hyper-​thyroid, within 1^st month heart rate became normal (no longer had to see heart doctor, & he told me to keep doing what was working), within 1 year, thyroid returned to normal. I was released from my thyroid doctor.

Thanks to Dr. Wang, my wife and I have had a baby not once, but twice. About seven years ago, we had been trying to have a baby for year without success (using rhythm method, checking temperature, etc). After we both visited Dr. Wang, he helped us about 3 – 4 weeks of acupuncture, Chinese medicine to improve energy (little black pills made of various herbs) and heating lamps for our abdomens.
Sure enough, my wife got pregnant in the next cycle.
I was somewhat skeptical, but the same issue happened again more recently, and again my wife went to see him after 2 – 3 years of trying on our own (and seeing a Western doctor). Sure enough, that month, my wife got pregnant again.
So, when it comes to pregnancy help, Dr. Wang is 2 for 2 in our book. I was a bit skeptical the first time, but the second time I was pretty impressed.
Dr. Wang is an older Chinese gentlemen, so he struggles to communicate in English, but his secretary is a very nice, cheerful lady and they work well together. The Chinese medicine we took were little brown pills (ingredients listed in the back of the bottle, herbs and roots only), and we take those 3 times a day.
The prices are reasonable, the location is convenient, and Dr. Wang has some serious credentials owing to his family background.

Ok, I feel that enough time has passed and that I have seen him enough that I can comfortably give him an honest review. He smells like cologne, not super talkative but knows what the hell he is doing.
This is why I continue to go. I think he treats your Chi through acupuncture which is why some think he really isn’t listening, then gives you herbal medicine for your other issues, symptoms.
**Just a note, if you don’t know what they’re giving you-​ask. It has to do with what you told them was going on. On my bottles, there were labels that said «muscle strength» or «muscle pain», plus, I googled the ingredients from the list on the bottles just to see what they were.
Here’s how my first appointment went: I came in after running there, so I was a little sweaty and late. The receptionist or office assistant was very friendly and told me to go into a room, while she gave me a choice of hot teas to choose from. I undressed (took off my shirt but kept my exercise bra/​shorts on) and soon Dr. Wang came in, asked me what my problem (s) were, told me to stick out my tongue, man –handled my shoulders, neck & head, then proceeded to stick me with needles (not in the tongue, though I wouldn’t have been surprised) then turned off the light & said, «you sleep now!» and shut the door. He came back an hour later took them out.
I didn’t sleep then but after they checked me out, I ran my butt home like Forrest G. & slept better than I ever had. Could’ve been the 8 miles but I run that all the time and never slept like that.
I have felt better every since. I go maybe once a week for the last month. He grows on you. He is actually very kind once you get to know him a little.
Good Times

I first met Dr. Wang about six years ago. My mother had just died, my father had stroked out (I was and am solely responsible for him), my job was extremely stressful, my significant other dumped me, all within about two months. I had gotten to the point where I couldn’t turn my brain off. I made a list of all the things that might help, and one of them was acupuncture.
I picked Dr. Wang at random, and went to see him. I filled out his office questionnaire, but as I found out later, he doesn’t pay much attention to it. He can tell what’s wrong with you in many other more direct ways. He took one look at me and said «STRESS!». He stuck some needles in my head. As soon as a needle went into my Bai Hui point, the noise in my head stopped. He pulled a blanket over me, told me to take a nap and I felt like some kind person had just given me a teddy bear and chicken soup.
I have continued to go to Dr. Wang for many different ailments. He’s amazing. I have sent many friends and coworkers to him. Many like him, a few don’t. That’s to be expected, he’s not a one size fits all. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t an incredible healer. I’ve helped out in the clinic some, and seen first hand how much he has helped people with many different problems. A lot of people come when western doctors have written them off, and Dr. Wang can often help them. He’s excellent with herniated discs, for instance.
Also, he may look gruff sometimes, but I thinks he’s just preoccupied a lot. He’s actually very soft hearted and kind. I am sometimes scared when I go in there, like when I got diagnosed with diabetes. Dr. Wang patted me on the head and said «don’t be scared, you’ve got Dr. Wang!»
I’ve been told by several Chinese people that he’s got a tremendous reputation in the Chinese community, also. He is actually a China trained physician who uses acupuncture and herbs as modes of treatment. He was a professor at the Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He’s very well known internationally and is invited to go to medical conferences and present papers. Personally I think this man walks on water.

I think he means well, but is not a good listener and is kind of bossy.
I usually am very good at understanding people with accents, so I didn’t have too much trouble there – for other people I think he could be very difficult to understand. He also seemed not to listen to me when I told him what was bothering me.
I was having severe muscle pain in my elbow regions, and he was very gruff with me. He got to the needles very quickly, never stopping to explain even though I told him I’d never done acupuncture before. He stuck in the needles and then said «take a nap» and was gone. At least a half hour later, he came in and used some kind of herbal liquid on my arms, and rubbed so hard (with the glass bottle!) that they were inflamed for a few days. I almost cried it hurt so much, but he never even looked at my face or asked how I was.
He gave me herbs and Chinese medicine for $ 30 but didn’t really tell me what they were for, just how many to take and sent me on my way. It was a bad experience – I felt out of the loop and manhandled, but I came back the next week as he requested, to give it another try.
That time, one of the needles was placed and was excruciating. He – again – never looked at my reaction while he was doing it or asked how it was; I told him before he ran out of the room that it was hurting a lot, and he moved it slightly; I told him it still hurt and he said «that’s okay» basically. So for another 30+ minutes I had this mild-​moderate pain the whole time.
When he came back he attacked my arms with the oil again, even though I had told him it hurt a lot last time. He said «okay» and did it just as hard. Afterward, he prescribed more medicine, but I said that the other stuff had made me nauseated, and he said «okay take this too» and added something. The pills looked exactly the same but he hand wrote a different diagnosis essentially. Whatever. I tried for 2 days, still was sick, and stopped.
I did NOT go back, and haven’t tried acupuncture again (that was a year ago). I just looked up some more acupuncturists and am going to try a new one soon. Hopefully he will be more responsive and less brutal.

Recently I was diagnosed with a thyroid disorder. Traditional Western medicine says, «Let’s wait until your body destroys enough of your thyroid and then we’ll give you something.» I just wasn’t happy with that answer. Being the open-​minded girl that I am, I sought treatment elsewhere.
I was a little nervous for my first visit because I’m not a big fan of needles, but Dr. Wang was recommended by my masseuse who’s great. I filled out the health questionnaire, and was shown to a room by Dr. Wang. He’s very friendly, and I soon found that I could understand him pretty well. I told him I have a number of complaints, but the thyroid issue was the one he decided to focus on. In minutes flat, I was on the table and Spring Sproing Sprung needles were poking out of my ears, head, and navel. Then he said, «Okay, take a nap now.»
How about,“Okay, stifle panic attack now.“
I will admit I was freaking out a little, but I worked to calm myself down and I never peeked at the needles. Soon I was drifting off, and just a few minutes before he came back in I started to feel tingling in my extremities. It did hurt a little but I just kept telling myself it was for a greater good.
On my way out, I grabbed my herbs that I was to boil, strain, and drink morning and night before I saw him again (in less than a week). I looked in the bag, and it definitely resembled Pier One potpourri, with a woodland floor aroma. So this morning and tonight, I drank my Pier One potpourri that tasted like a chicory woodsy veggie broth. Okay, I gagged down the first glass this morning, but tonight’s went down a little smoother.
The price was not outrageous for an office visit and herbs, and most insurance plans cover some acupuncture. His office has its own parking on University Way so you can’t beat that.
