Why did I wait so long to try this place? Oh, that’s right, because it’s colocated with a place that specializes in potatoes on a stick. Not that I have anything against Hurricane Spud — I haven’t tried it yet — but do you really expect good sandwiches from a place that sells potatoes on a stick? Well, you should. SoHo Sandwich was a pleasant surprise. This place makes no attempt to be a Katz clone, but they’ve clearly put a lot of thought and care into the menu and ingredients. My Reuben consisted of a generous pile of good quality corned beef and cheese, sliced in front of me, heated on a griddle, served with sauerkraut and 1000 Island on a hero roll. Yeah. Well. The picture above appears to show marble rye, so maybe I got the hero because I came in late in the day. But the roll worked great, and traveled better than the rye would have(I got it to go), so no complaints on that front. It’s not really the same sort of sandwich you’d get at, say, I Love NY Deli, but it’s close enough and cheap enough to make I Love NY raise an eyebrow and swallow nervously. Pretty much everything on the menu looked good. My next order will probably be the pastrami and coleslaw(the ‘Rachel’, I guess). They also seem to have soup and some hot caffeinated beverages. So don’t let the potatoes on a stick scare you off. There’s good food to be had here.

Honestly, I’m not a sandwich person. I become incredibly picky when it comes to trying sandwiches. However, soho ny sandwich has lots of selections with awesome taste and very reasonable price. This is the first time I’ve ever been ok with having sandwiches 4 days in a row in my life and that’s truely saying something!!! Also I can see all of the ingredients including meat and cheese from the refrigerator and they look so clean and fresh which is very important. I heard this place just opened last week. I think it”s going to be one of the most poplular sandwich places in U district very soon.
