There really aren’t enough good things to say about this place and its wonderful husband-and-wife owners(one being the Soup Daddy) and their dog Mason Jar. I stumbled on them walking through South Lake Union, and fell in love with this cafeteria style deli in the basement of the Seattle Times building. They have a variety of daily fresh soups of their own recipes that are delicious and fresh made-to-order salads and sandwiches. I was lucky to be there on «free cookie Monday» too. What is possibly the best of all about this mom n’ pop joint, is that you may be able to eat lunch with their beloved family pet, Mason. Mason is their dog they take to work while they run the restaurant, and she hangs out with the patrons. Pull up a chair, and she will sit with you — no joke. One of the owners showed me how Mason will literally also eat lunch with you; she laid out a place mat for her with some treats, and I got to share a table and lunch with this furry friend. My turkey club and cream of mushroom/spinach soup were delicious, and my company was great! For my sandwich, soup, and drink, I only paid a little over $ 6. Definitely support this local business. It’s clear the Martins care about their business a lot, and put a lot of their effort and love into making delicious food.

I came here for lunch after a coworker recommended it; my sandwich was pretty good. What really stood out was how dirty the place seemed to be; it seemed like the place hasnt had a good cleaning in a LONG time. The walls in the serving area had splatters all over them, the areas where the food was prepared were very messy and there was quite a bit of dog hair on the floors. The owners dog roams freely throughout the eating area. The dog is pretty cute BUT dogs generally scare me somewhat and I dont like them in such close proximity to me and my food. I would think im not the only person out there who isnt an avid dog lover so it would be nice to pay for my food and have the option of sitting somewhere where the dog doesnt have access to me and isnt leaning against me while I chew. Plus I had to return to work with dog hair on my black pants :(

Love this place for lunch. Secret tip, the burgers are great! Its the only place I have found in SLU who actually toasts the bun!(How hard is that??) The soup is good and the sandwiches are just what you would want for a good lunch! Prices are great and the staff is friendly. Its a bit of a hole in the wall, but I love it! Give Mason(the service dog) a pet or a snack when you come in and he will love you for life!

Came for lunch. People running this place are salt of the earth. Good, nice people. That being said its a little bit of a disarray. Converted from a cafeteria its a hodge podge of a place. Soup and sandwiches are decent and prices are awesome. Its in the basement of the old Seattle Times building. There is also a resident dog.

South Lake Union sure has changed. Amazon has brought in an influx of new restaurants, food trucks, and coffee shops, and all of them are trying too hard to be unique, yet they all come off as the same. While being overwhelmed with all the new options around the area, I happened to give up and walk back to the office i’m currently visiting. Then, there it was: Soup Daddy Soups. The same place that I use to frequent for soups when I was still working in Seattle three years ago. Nothing has changed about the place. Mason is still hanging out there. The soups still taste great, the food is non pretentious and it still resembles good ol’ fashioned American lunch food. Also, the service can’t be beat. The staff always greets you with a smile, and sometimes if you’re lucky, you’ll get free bread or toast with your soup. I really hope Soup Daddy Soups never goes away. It’s a gem in a now sterile neighborhood.

This is a fun, unique cafeteria with a lot of variety in food. It’s dog friendly and the staff are awesome. Unfortunately you can’t leave a tip with your credit card, so bring a few bucks to leave in the tip jar.

Finding this gem was a godsend. Or at least it must’ve been, after being surrounded by Amazon coffee shops, Starbucks and Whole Foods — all places filled with glum(generally) folks, expensive sundries and much bigger levels of pretension than I ever saw in downtown Manhattan. Enter Soup Daddy Soups. You might walk in and say hi to Mason Jar, the lovely dog with pictures here. There’s a big menu, but it’s all about the same — delicious soups and sandwiches, and you just have to pick the variety. Jack or Diane(owners) will smile and say hi, especially if you’re a regular, along with Caelainn(hope I got the spelling right), who is the sweetest person in South Lake Union. I give this place five stars, only because I couldn’t give it 11. Thank you Jack, Diane and Caelainn for being so welcoming and kind, and I hope much business flows your way. And give Mason a pet for me, please.

I dig this place. They are quick and cater to a ton of people during the lunch hour. It is very popular. I have only tried one thing on the menu and that is the Club Sub. It is a most fabulous sandwich. However, I cannot attest to anything else on their very large menu. I eat here often.

Let me start off by saying, take all of these reviews with a grain of salt. There are some people that write bad reviews just to write bad reviews. I’ve only ever written one review before, but after seeing what some people have said about Soup Daddy Soups, I have to throw my hat in the ring and say a few words on their behalf. Soup Daddy Soups is a great place run by good, nice, happy people. It’s not fancy, but it’s not trying to be fancy. It is what it is, and it’s awesome. I’ve never had better customer service than I’ve had at Soup Daddy’s. I’m always greeted with a smile, and I’ve witnessed the staff walking new comers through the menu and the lay of the land time and time again. The staff is welcoming, kind, and hot damn, they make a good cup of soup. The menu can be a bit overwhelming, but if you’re looking for their specialties, go with their soups, sandwiches, and salads. Everything is affordable and priced well, so you’ll be getting a good deal no matter what you order. On a personal note, I love a good Caesar salad, and I haven’t found a better Caesar dressing than the house-made Caesar at Soup Daddy. And I should also add their soups are some of the best I’ve ever had. They also usually do a great job of having a mix of cream-based soups and broth-based soups so there’s plenty of choices. The South Lake Union has gotten a big helping of pretentiousness and snooty in the past few years and Soup Daddy is everything SLU isn’t – good food and friendly people for a great price.

I’m late in writing this review but need to post this for them. I ordered catering from SDS for a business event I held in January. It was last minute in the catering world, and since I was taking 50 people curling, I thought soup and sandwiches would be the perfect menu. The gal I talked to was super happy to take my last minute request, even with driving it out to the rink about 20 miles away. I ordered 1 vegetable soup, 1 chili, a chowder, a variety of sandwiches, cookies and assorted sodas and bottled water. The delivery man showed up early and had everything set up perfectly. He drove all the way back to clean up as well afterwards. The team loved the food. Many commented to me how much they liked it. The prices were great, and it was a small delivery charge. I’ll be ordering from them again. Food: 4 Service: 5 Ambiance: NA Parking: NA

Delicious! Plus the waitress was adorable and gave us a tutorial of ordering there. Reasonably priced with good portion sizes. I’d absolutely refer people here and I’m going again!

I’ve eaten here once a week or so for the past few months and you will not find a place nearby that gives you more bang for your buck. «Bang» being food and«buck» being currency. The staff is friendly and will guide you through the process of ordering if you’ve never been there before. My favorite thing for lunch is probably the chicken burgers. they have a couple variations,(blue cheese/gorgonzola, Teriyaki, etc.) The bun is nice and crispy on the inside and warm and soft on the outside and the chicken is always done right. I get tomato and lettuce, but you can add whatever you want. The Teriyaki has a slice of pineapple as well. The fries here are AMAZING. Not too big, not too small, have flakes of crispy golden goodness surrounding them, they’ve got the perfect layer of crunch around them and the consistency on the inside is spot on. The cookies are delicious! Taste like home made and are free on Mondays. They serve a mean breakfast burrito in the mornings, it’ll fill you up all day and its only 5 bucks. Lastly, they have daily specials for about 6 – 7 bucks, with fish every Friday. I would highly recommend the chicken fried steak if it happens to be the special, or the coconut prawns if that is the Friday special, they are both amazing.

I’m so happy to have discovered this place! The dog that hangs out is absolutely adorable. The food is great and they always have a nice variety. The staff is all VERY friendly and helpful. They put extra effort into making sure you get what you want, how you want it.

Look, I love hole in the wall sandwich joints. My all time favorite at a job several years ago in Colorado was just as scary/intimidating as this strange basement cafeteria. I say that to establish that the reason for my meh review has nothing to do with the environment. When I first stumbled onto this place, I thought I had struck gold and it would quickly be established as my go to lunch joint. Unfortunately after eating there several times, it just has not been able to win me over. I have found the food to be okay but not great with a propensity for hit or miss on any given day or dish. The service, while very friendly can also be slow — not great when trying to run in for a quick bite at work.

Had a breadbowl with some tomatoe based soup, it was just okay. There are better lunch spots around.

Other reviewers are correct in that the layout of Soup Daddy is both cafeteria like and downright strange. I came in for a soup salad combo, got confused, and ended up only getting a salad, which was plenty large enough for me for lunch. It was tasty — a caesar, which dressing they seem to make in house. It’s a nice touch. My one complaint is that they use these mixed-bread croutons which are amazing in any other salad but in a caesar the rye croutons do something negative to my tastebuds. I will come back and try a soup. And not get confused this time, hopefully!

Remember Seinfeld’s Soup Nazi? Remember how you had to know how to order and pick up your food? Kinda the same deal here, except I didn’t have the same mouth-watering reaction to Daddy’s soups. :-/ Ah well, at least they’re affordable! It’s totally cafeteria style, yet kinda not. This place is quite odd. It can be kind of intimidating since there’s not much for customer flow. Meaning you can find yourself wondering where to go or how everything works there. To clear it up, walk past the cashier to the back. There may be a line… it kinda depends on what time of day you go. Order sandwiches on the right, and soups in the middle-back. If you order a hot sandwich, you pay at the cashier, then pick it up at the window outside the cashier area. Just BESURE to wait for your name to be called, or you may get a scolding. Soup menus are available inside, but for some reason they’re not posted on their website. This is unfortunate because I know a few people(myself included) who would return when tomato is served. :-/ Even now, I’m craving tomato soup and grilled cheese. :’-{ When SOUPDADDY??? WHEN??? Seriously, there are few more appropriate times when a restaurant should have a RSS feed, than for the days soups at Soup Daddy. :-/

The meat-lovers at our office were very, very happy with the lunch we got delivered from Soup Daddy Soups. The vegetarians… a little less so. Most of their soups and sandwiches contained meat, but a few of them were vegetarian and pretty good. It’s… to me… standard sandwiches and soup. Nothing fantastic or over-the-top, but good and just what I expected. Great? Not really. Good? Yes! Those same meat-eaters hope we get lunch catered by them again. I… could be happy either way.
