Their Thai food is okay. I don’t that that is their specialty because they are Vietnamese, but their Viet food is spot on. They also need to use real fruit for their boba! I would get their boba again if it were real fruit rather than powder. I always get the shrimp vermicelli noodle bowl and have converted my co workers into getting it too! It’s really fresh and pretty much all of their Viet foods are fresh. The workers are nice as well. Very sweet.

It was delicious! This was our first time visiting and it did not disappoint. The pineapple fried rice and the panang curry are options that are packed with flavor. I would certainly recommend this place, as it offers good-sized portions that are affordable.

The most STINGY restaurant I have ever seen on the Ave. I ordered their spring rolls to go and what I found out inside of each roll was The SHRIMPCUTINHALF, and I could smell the FORMALINE right into my nose. This is my fifth year in America and never met a place like this. Just consider their food if you wanna die early.

Yummy but expensive for the Ave. I got chicken with green beans and basil(forgot the name), super hot, and it was $ 9. Everything was perfectly cooked and I thought super hot was just right(it’s probably only mildly spicy by true Thai standards). The serving size is really good compared to some Thai place in downtown and the serving size is small for a Thai place on the Ace. This is probably the right place if you want to treat some guest out to lunch and it’s well-suited for large groups, but it’s not the best bang for your buck.

This place is so nice. Clean and cozy restaurant(except rush hours from 12−2pm is little bit noisy), especially the restrooms are always being kept cleanliness. Having spacious glass windows on the side where we can sit next to and enjoy watching people walking outside. Water always refilled, friendly waitresses and enthusiastic. Vietnamese foods here are the best in the area, they have Phở which is one of the most specific dishes from Asian and rice or vermicelli bowl with grilled chicken /pork /shrimp. ThaiLand foods such as stir noodles or curry with your choice of meat like beef, chicken, tofu or prawn are extremely popular.

A mixed bag, but go for the Vietnamese dishes(perhaps it would taste better?) My boyfriend and I went to grab a quick dinner after studying all day. Got in at around 5pm and easily got served a sit. We ordered the following dishes: Thai Crab Rangoon A bad choice if you’re into deep fried Thai appetizers. Thai Chicken Green Curry For some reason this wasn’t very good. It wasn’t that the flavors weren’t strong enough, but somehow the green curry just didn’t come out the way I like it at the city’s more authentic Thai restaurants. Pad Thai It was quite ‘wet’, presentation was poor, and flavor-wise I’m still not sure what it was intended to be(other then sweet). My stomach felt so heavy after eating.

Nice location. Varied menu. Really accommodating staff: when my friend asked for extra lime, she got more than enough; water was always refilled; checked in at appropriate time intervals; split the bill without a problem). Clean restaurant. Open windows allow for a bit of «scenery» — we went for lunch on a sunny day, really contributed to the atmosphere. Really fresh vegetables. Realized they were Vietnamese after hearing them speak as I was getting served my food, didn’t have high expectations for the Thai food. Pad thai had a very thick sauce(hence my friend asked for extra limes). However, pad thai tasted better on day 2(leftovers). Hoping to come back to try Vietnamese food considering how fresh the vegetables were + restaurant is obviously Vietnamese, not Thai. Also thumbs up for having vegetable broth for vegetable phở — I sure know more than one Vietnamese restaurant that serves broth is actually beef-bone despite being«vegetarian.»

Pretty good food. Cheap prices. Wasn’t the best food I’ve had, but still pretty good. My shrimp was a little overlooked. The staff was pleasant and nice.

The fresh rolls that they serve taste off(The beansprouts used were really sour and the peanut sauce had an unnatural carbonated-ish tang to go with it). I went there slightly before lunch fwiw. Personally wouldn’t recommend.

Good food, great location, prompt service, decent price for food. When I found out there was a new Vietnamese-Thai Restaurant open on the Ave in the U district, I figure it was worth checking out. We have eaten here two different times to make use of the Groupon deal. I love how the restaurant is located on the corner at the end of the Ave, which makes it really easy to get to. There are plenty of tables and lots of natural light from the tall windows. The staff has been prompt to welcome us in and lets us pick the table we like. The waitress brought menus, water, napkin and utensils. The food arrives within 5 minutes after placing our orders. It appears the restaurant workers are Vietnamese, so I would personally stick with ordering Vietnamese food rather than the Thai food here. Vietnamese vermicelli noodle bowl with grilled pork and egg roll: Delicious, and packed with two skewers of well marinated and cooked pork, noodles, bean sprouts, basil, lettuce, pickled carrot and daikon, egg roll, a side of fish sauce and garnished with green onion and crushed peanuts. Good portion. I grew up eating this dish frequently, this one meets the standard to satisfy my craving for vermicelli bowl. I wasn’t blown away or wowed, but I was satisfied. My husband also enjoyed his bowl. We ordered this dish on two separate visits. My only gripe about the food was during our second visit when our vermicelli bowls were almost half full of bean sprouts. Don’t get me wrong, I love bean sprouts. But this was too much in proportion to the noodles and meat. We both ended up taking a handful of bean sprouts out of our bowls before mixing it together to eat. The second time I ate here I also ordered a Coke. I was a little reluctant because their beverages are already priced high in my opinion. I was a bit surprised when the waitress brought the drink out in a small to-go cup, especially because we were clearly eating in at the restaurant, and had just started our meal. I would have appreciated if she asked me if I wanted it to-go or for-here, if she was thinking about putting it a to-go cup. It is a little pet peeve of mine when I eat in at a restaurant and the servers make my drink to-go without my request, because it makes my experience a little more rushed and less relaxed. Also, although it was nice of them to have a scented candle lit in the hallway outside of the bathroom, the hand soap in the bathroom left an overpowering and unpleasant smell on your hands. It reminds me of when I make a pit stop at the gas station bathroom and wash my hands there. Then I have to endure that same smell throughout the rest of my meal. Sorry, but please replace your soap with one that won’t spoil my appetite. Street parking available, pay the meter to park here. Overall, food is good, service and location is decent. There are many other choices of Vietnamese and Thai restaurants on the Ave, and this one is worth trying for the Vermicelli bowl.

First time giving them a try after banana leaf closed, and have to say I had a bit of mixed experience. The staff were great, service was prompt. The Thai iced team was awesome, although on the spendy side(I normally go thru at least two but at these prices it was one for me). I got 4 star Phad Thai, which the noodles, sauce, sprouts, etc were all great. My one issue was the chicken, had that overcooked, kinda strange off flavor. Might have been a one off thing, will be coming back for sure but might switch up the meat.

Paid here a visit to support this business because they have another location next door to my mom’s teriyaki business. For my first visit, i am honestly disappointed. I tried the Honey Garlic Chicken, one of their specials, which was about $ 10 after tax and Thai Iced Tea, which was about $ 4. Although the portions were good for me, I found the chicken overcooked and very dry and the menu overpriced. The service was average, nothing special, but glad they at least do their jobs. Perhaps its because I didn’t order from their usual menu… But I may give it another try with their main menu.

After Banana Leaf met its downfall after a sketchy long-term«our credit card machine is broken!» and wack-ass automatic gratuity charging, Spring Kitchen has taken over the throne of one of the restaurants on the southern-most tip of the Ave(ergo, med and engineering students go there). Wedep. Welcome to da hood. I ordered the panang curry, because it’s panang muhfuh curry. Probably one of the creamiest panang curries out there. Got dat coconut milk getting it on, a sprig of basil resting on the side for yo own basilin desire. chicken was a bit dry and flavorless. Overall, the food was pretty good, but just didn’t taste like other Thai restaurants’ curries. Something was off… I ordered a four star, and it was spicy! But not overwhelmingly so. In fact, it might be on the same level as a three star at other thai restaurants on the ave. Service was en pointe(proper use of da word millenials…), and the waitress checked in during the middle of the meal, and was very friendly and polite. Another little nitpick: they leave the water out in little glass vases on each table. Cute shit, but the water gets warm throughout the day. You’ll have to ask for the ice. I’ll have to come back to try their viet dishes. Maybe it’s a good idea not to go hybrid on yo styles. Oh well, they’re new! SUPPORTYRLOCALBUSINESSES. Give it a month or two and then hopefully things smooth out for them and see how it go. Decent 3 outta 5

I have come here 4 times and got different dishes each: the pad see ew, the pad thai, phở, and the vermicelli bowl. From what I concluded is that the two thai dishes(pad thai, and pad see ew) didn’t really taste like they usually would at more authentic Thai restaurants, so if you like mediocre Thai food this would be a good place. Meanwhile the two dishes you would commonly see in Vietnamese restaurants are great! The tastes were true to what you would expect! All in all, great Vietnamese food, not so much on the Thai food.

The food here isn’t bad, and the service is great! This place is relatively inexpensive as well. My friends got the grilled pork vermicelli bowl, and I got a bowl of phở. We all agreed the food wasn’t extraordinary, but it was pretty good! The service here is really great though! One of my friends broke a chopstick(don’t ask why), but the waitress was super nice about it and got her a new pair immediately. My friend also got an egg roll with her vermicelli bowl, but unfortunately there was a hair in it… But the waitress was also super nice about that, apologized and got her a new one, and we didn’t even have to pay for the egg roll(it was an extra 1 $). Other than that, my experience with this place was pretty good!

Brand new Thai/Vietnamese restaurant in the U District. The restaurant has nice, big windows through which you can do some good people-watching. I came in the middle of the lunch hour and the place was absolutely slammed. Still, I only had to wait a few minutes for a table. Most of the entrees are around $ 8 – 9 each and they have all of the Thai and Vietnamese staples: phở, pad thai, pad see ew, panang curry, and vermicelli bowls of all varieties. I had a specialty dish whose name currently escapes me– it was something kind of cheesy like«amazing chicken.» Anyways, it was lightly fried chicken coated in a spicy, slightly sweet sauce. It came with rice and two complimentary gyoza. The dish was a nice change of pace and the chicken was crispy out the outside but juicy and tender on the inside. Service was somewhat spotty but I think it’s because the restaurant was packed and they just opened about a week ago. Still working out the kinks and whatnot. I like the variety of dishes and prices– I’ll definitely be back for lunch sometime soon! I’d love to see if their phở is up to snuff.

I went here opening week and I was pretty pleasantly surprised! The location is really convenient and the décor is clean. There was a free appetizer for grand opening and it was two gyoza and it was a nice little incentive, probably not something I would actually order but I liked them. The restaurant is moderately priced and seems to offer a very wide variety of Thai and Vietnamese dishes. I personally had the pineapple fried rice and it was pretty good and fairly well portioned. It’s just about enough to fill a person up(though admittedly I would have preferred to have a little bit more). The service was way better than it was at Banana Leaf(the restaurant previously there). I expect to come here again this week to try some more dishes, and I shall update my review accordingly. Definitely a place to give a try!

New place and certainly worth your time! Service is great and everyone is very friendly. Prices here average just under 8 bucks per entrée, not too bad! I had the pad thai and loved it, certainly on my list of yummy pad Thai on the ave, behind Thai tom but on par with little Thai. The only complaint I have is that their portions seemed a little on the small side for my liking. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their items tho!

The free appetizer for the grand opening is two gyoza pieces for each person(nothing special, just your typical frozen-cooked kind that is common in other places, but hey it’s free! I still liked it, but it’s not something that I would actually order). I have only been here once, but would like to share my experience. I will update it once I visit again. Being a new restaurant that replaced a Thai restaurant(Banana Leaf Café, which was good), I expected it to be also good if not better. I was a little disappointed, but I still ate and enjoyed my food. The dishes are Thai and Vietnamese. My friend and I ordered Thai dishes: she got Pineapple Fried Rice and I got Pad Thai with beef, two very classic Thai dishes. However, they tasted nothing like Thai food. My friend’s rice had no flavor in it — it was strange how bland it was. Perhaps they forgot to add something? But there was only one other table or two in there, so it wasn’t busy… And being a brand new restaurant they should want to make a good impression, so I was left quite confused. I would not ever order it here. Similarly, my pad Thai did not taste like pad Thai. Perhaps it was a Vietnamese take on it? I’m not quite sure how I felt about it, but there were moments where it was good, and what had the most flavor was the meat. Hmm, yes, I think the meat is what saved it. And lime and spice. It’s unfortunate because I really loved that there was a Thai place near by my building, and I LOVE Thai food! Service here was great though, MUCH better than Banana Leaf’s. And the portions are a decent size, def enough to fill you up. I wouldn’t recommend getting Thai food here, so perhaps they have good Vietnamese food? We will see. I was unsure of how many stars to give since I’ve only been here once, but 3 seems fine for now. I did recently hear that the vietnamese food such as the fried garlic chicken was good.
