This is probably the best fish & chips place I’ve ever tried! The two owners are incredibly friendly, they cook everything right in front of you, the food is fresh, hot & delicious! I’m not even a big fish eater, but their halibut is kindda to die for:)

Excellent fried seafood for a reasonable(relative to everywhere else) price. CASHONLY. Their vinegars were amazing and I will be stealing their recipes for home: malt vinegar, sport peppers, garlic and black pepper. There was a mild version less the the sport peppers as well. Excellent but rich chowder, great fried halibut and fresh fries. Fried oysters were super fresh. The calamari(they spell it with a ‘k’) was a tiny tough but good. Clean, quick and will become a favorite.

Living on Alki this was sort of my go to spot when i was to lazy to drive or walk to far. The food is excellent, I usually get the fried oyster’s with fries and a clam chowder. I definitely recommend getting the clam chowder, it is very flavorful and the portion was pretty good. The only reason why I couldn’t give this place 5 stars would be that they don’t accept cards, it’s CASH only, and the restaurant can use a little bit more cleaning. Overall the food is delicious and this is definitely a place you should come check out if your in the mood for some fried seafood.

Simply amazing I am a west Seattlelight and have tried many fish and chip but these guys are the best. Try the halibut Co bob or the cod and chip combo.

I have always been a Spuds guy as far as fish and chips go near downtown Seattle. I have been told a few times about sunfish and that I should give it a go. Went there two days ago and thought the fish and chips AND tartar was great. The clam chowder was very good too, not the best I have had but very good. Best clam chowder IMO is at Wally’s in Desmoines WA. They have great fish too. Anyhow, back to sunfish. No frills but food was good, the place was clean and location is fun. Now I have tough choices to make when heading toward Alki and im feeling like fish and chips.

Good fried seafood. Their menu is a bit strange though. You can order combo platters(fries and 1 or 2 pieces of fish), but not all fish was sold separately. For example you could buy a piece of salmon or cod, but not halibut. This makes it harder to sample a variety of fish. They also don’t take credit cards, which in this day and age can be a real problem. Ok, what do I like? I really enjoyed their fried fish! I’m getting to a point in my life where fried anything just doesn’t appeal to me. This place, however, does a really good job of frying their fish and not over doing it. Also, it didn’t taste greasy at all. The batter was crunchy and flavorful. Among our group, we had fried salmon, cod, halibut, oysters and shrimp. Fried salmon wouldn’t normally appeal to me, but we were accidentally given a piece and boy that was good– perhaps my favorite! Parking was a pain on a slow Thursday afternoon. We ended up getting a $ 47 parking ticket in a poorly marked no-parking spot. No signs, just some color coding system that conveniently gets the out-of-towners. Shame on you West Seattle!

Amazing seafood, probably the best in my life. Which considering how this place looked on the outside… man I’m glad I went in anyways! Talk about a dive, totally worth going to, highly recommend if you need a seafood fix.

We asked for some Halibut, it was on the menu, they said we don’t have any… so we ordered something else. The guy next in line right behind us ordered halibut… they somehow found some. Super cheap and by no means«friendly» environment. I’d go down the street to Fish n Chips.

This was great! Was visiting Seattle for the first time and just walking alongside Alki Beach. Sunfish caught my eye with their banner outside with their fishes, calamari, clam chowder. We had just eaten lunch and I was so full, but I always have room for clam chowder. We got the clam chowder and cod fish and chips. ITWASDELICIOUS. The clam chowder was a little small and lacking in seafood, but it was still great. They fried the fish fresh after we ordered it. It was amazing. Usually I feel gross and oily after eating fried food, but this wasn’t the case. The breading was light and crispy. Would definitely hit up this spot when I visit again. Can’t wait to try the calamari next time.

Very nice place. Great view. Seating outside. What else do you need on a nice summer evening in Seattle. Highly recommend Shrimp and fries.

Pretty clean. Decent service. Delicious food. Wish they took cards, and offered some steamed options instead of all fried, but it is what it is, and fish and chips shack on the beach.

I have been a big fan of Spuds for most of my life, I have put up with their unsanitary conditions, charging for tarter and ketchup, sky high prices, lack of seating… you name it. The only reason I ever came back was because I loved their fish! But I actually swore I was done with them last year… and now I have a better fish place to go to. SUNFISH! The place is clean, well lit, and most importantly… good fish and chips. I hear the calamari is great also. Spuds… see you never. There’s a new sheriff in town.

Hands down the best fish & chips in Seattle. The salmon and chips is always moist and the portion is more than acceptable. I also love the halibut and chips like I love my own son. Their chowder is crazy delicious and they have a rather large Greek salad if that’s what you want??? Don’t miss the garlic and pepper packed vinegar bottles throughout the restaurant, it compliments the fish perfectly. Yes, it’s expensive, but most good things are. Treat your tastebuds to something lovely once in a while. The grouchy brothers(owners) make it all the more fun to visit. How can they be so cross?! Haha… This is the Mercedes Benz of fish and chips… the best or nothing.

Yes I am a Fan of this place. I must have driven by it a hundred times and never walked in til yesterday. It was extremely windy and cold at Alki this particular time and I just wanted to get out of the cold. As I stepped inside, I already liked the place since the heater was turned up to extra comfort zone. I figured might as well order some grub to justify my entrance into their establishment. ” Ok give me a 3 piece Cod, A 2 piece Halibut, a large Clam Chowder and a regular coke. ” Total damage $ 30 I grabbed one of those bottles of vinegar that contained some spicy peppers and doused my fishes with it. Fresh Fresh and very tasty. Window seating was available and I had a nice view of the water. I prefer the view of Seattle Space Needle and the other buildings, but this location is located further south. As I looked around, I noticed a lot of senior citizens in the establishment; rich old retirees that have deep pockets and lots of time on their hands. The place was filled with them. Ofcourse I am a tad bit exaggerating, but in my head I said to myself, «This would be a nice hangout when i get to their ages. Eat something somewhat healthy, sit around with other seniors for lunch and b.s. about everyday affairs, enjoying the scenery while drinking a cup of tea.» I shook my head, who am I kidding… By the time i get to their ages, the owners would have keeled over, this establishment would be bulldozed down to make room for one of those fancy condos, and I would be in some tropical island hanging with girls that are wearing minimal clothing, with a beer in my hand and saying, «Hey Mate give me an order of those fish and chips so that i can remember some of my youth when living in Seattle. Great! you got one of those peppered vinegar bottles as well.» Now I am reminiscing, smiling, and continue living a youthful life…

This experience comes with a story. I put together two weeks’ worth of directions for my trip, leaving myself plenty of surprises along the way. Down from Seattle to San Diego and back, and I find myself on Friday afternoon with a spare hour. Decided to knock an item off my Saturday list and check out the sunfish statue in West Seattle. Except when I get all the way there, I find out that I was headed to this restaurant, not a statue at all. Good thing I didn’t come here Saturday morning, or it would have been closed. Since I’d come all this way for otherwise nothing, I made a dinner out of it. The guy behind the counter is unintentionally hilarious. Anything I ordered or asked about, he just smiled and said«Sure.» I said«I wish I could try a little of everything.» «Sure.» «There’s an item for that?» «Sure.»(gestures at board) So I had two cod, two oysters, two prawns, all relatively lightly fried compared to what«fried» means back east. I get the impression Northwest fried is a lot lighter in general. The breading has a nice flavor but it really lets the seafood shine through. Of course, it’s all as fresh as can be. The prices aren’t outstanding, but they’re reasonable enough. Wish I could also try the kalamari(need to spell it their way, they’re Greek, after all!) and scallops. Funnily enough, the guy behind the counter instantly pegged me as NY area by the questions I asked, maybe my accent. He must not get many tourists in general in this area. Too bad this place is miles away from any normal tourist location. It would do even better business that way! P. S. Yes, the garlic vinegar is awesome. Comes in regular and spicy. And the tartar sauce is freshly made. Eat everything here. Everything.

These Greeks may be grumpy on the outside by they fill people tummy’s with LOVE! Having grown up with Spuds I normally go there, however when I want a change THESUNFISH is the only alternative. First off the clam chowder is rich and creamy and fill with goodies just the way you want it. I mean forget Boston, they can’t make chowda this good. Now moving up the menu the fish is very fresh, clean and you have fish choices of cod, halibut, & salmon. Even a halibut kabob for those who enjoy non-fried fish. Plus fresh calamari for the squid eaters. You’ll find this a wonderful place on a nice sunny day in the summer months to enhance your meal. You may eat inside or take it outside so you can suck up the sea air of Puget Sound while you eat. Outside of this review if you don’t like what FRANK has to say well you’ll miss out on the goods!

Run by a Russian family, it’s definitely an Alki locals joint, with a lot of older neighborhood regulars who have great rapport with the owner. It’s cash only. I decided on the small 1 piece cod and chips as everything else was $ 10+ and I didn’t have a ton of cash on me. I kindly placed my order and for some still unclear reason the man looked at me like I had shat on his floor. Nonetheless, the transaction was otherwise amicable, and after a somewhat lengthy wait I got a healthy serving of fried cod and a good quantity of thick crisp fries. The cod was not too terribly greasy or breaded and was actually one of the better pieces of fried cod I’ve had. The small cod and chips meal was around $ 7, and had I ordered any of the more interesting plates I would have been out $ 10 – 15 + tax + tip. It seems rather pricey for just fish and chips, even given it’s pretty good fish and chips. It’s not a place I’d go too far out of my way to visit… if in the area and in the mood for fish and chips, and I had a good quantity of cash, I’d do it again. And to be fair, the owner and family were overall friendly, but it was clear the good vibes are slanted towards the older locals. And finally, it does have a nice view of Alki Beach. But so do several other Alki joints, and IMO the view from the street is probably as good or better.
