The Sock Monster

Today was my first time visiting The Sock Monster and I am a fan! They basically do one thing and they do it extremely well! One may feel overwhelmed at first with the vast selection, but give yourself time to explore and you’ll be happy you did. You may end up putting some socks back during check out, if you’re grab happy like me, to save yourself some money, which only makes you want to return again and again to get all the cute socks you never knew you wanted! The staff is so sweet, Lisa and Lily were very helpful narrowing down what I was interested in and offering great information and suggestions. As other reviews may have mentioned, it can add up pretty fast, but nothing feels better when shopping to spend my money at a local, honest and kick ass shop like The Sock Monster! Go check it out, there is something for everyone!

Great customer service. Fun socks from short to tall.

Cool little sock shop in Wallingford, I needed socks so I went in here to get a few pairs of socks.
Small local shop but with big selections to choose from. I didnt look at the women’s section so I have no clue about that. As for men’s, plenty of funny character socks, sports related, some more conservative socks, some that are have cool designs, big statment socks etc etc. Prices aren’t bad, about $ 10 a pair depending on which one you choose.
Definitely a spot to check out when in the neighborhood, who doesnt like cool new socks? Plus you can go get some gelato at Fainting Goat a few doors down.

This is a cute little shop with a lot of items. There are men’s socks and a lot of items for women, leggings, boot socks (don’t know the official name for these) knee socks, thick winter socks, arm warmers, hats and more.
The prices are a bit high but this is probably a good place to visit if you have some accessories in mind that you can’t find anywhere else.

Friendly staff, awesome socks, what’s not to love?! They have all kinds of socks you never knew you could get! They also have cool water bottles, purses, bags and gloves.

We men are limited with our style. SOCKS make a statement. The Sock monster is just the place to find your style.
I am not only a customer and fan. I hope to have my own sock brand feeding the monster.

I go to this store for two reasons:
1. It’s Christmas time and everyone is getting socks.
2. A friend is visiting and they desperately want me to take them to that place where I got those cool socks I gave them for Christmas last year.
I’m pretty sure this store is now famous amongst my friends and family because they all rave about the unique, colorful gifts I give them every year. For around $ 6 – 15 a person I can instantly become everyone’s favorite gift giver. If that’s not a bargain, I don’t know what is.
The best part about Sock Monster is that they have something for everyone. For some I choose the literal prints (corgis for the dog lover, pencils and paper for the teacher, TEQUILA for the party girl — no judgment here). For others I go for quality (thick hiking socks for the outdoorsy friend, soft bamboo for mom, high Seahawks sports socks for the teenage boy who insists on wearing them with sandals –WHY?). And if that doesn’t cut it I always have the option of buying sock slippers, leg warmers, or even long underwear. The store is packed to the gills with everything worn on or near your feet. And while I never thought I would spend $ 50 on socks, I’m no longer ashamed to admit that it happens. But beware, you will do it too.

There is a small sign hanging on the entrance of Sock Monster that says, «Please do not shoplift from our small business.» It’s a simple message and one that would resonate with anyone, except perhaps for someone intent on stealing from the store. I have to say, entering Sock Monster for the first time, that simple sign caused me to feel an immediate affinity for the store. A small, women owned business doing its best to compete with big box retailers, chain stores, online retailers and any number of competing independent businesses, Sock Monster is exactly the kind of store you root for to succeed. Indeed if I written a review following that first visit, it undoubtedly would have been very positive. I would have described the $ 82.13 I spent purchasing six pairs of socks, the broad assortment, the helpful associate and the cool multi-​merchant loyalty program they are a part of.
But, I didn’t write that review and sadly my second visit to Sock Monster was so mind boggling frustrating, that I now find myself writing a one-​star review and vowing to never step foot in the store again.
So what happened?
Of the six pair of socks I purchased on that first visit, two were for me. They were a bit of a splurge – expensive cashmere/​wool blend socks that looked cool and felt heavenly. I wore one pair three times over four weeks. Let me repeat that. Three times over four weeks. The fourth time I went to wear them I noted that they were already starting to wear through. The fabric had become so thin I could see my skin. «Well that’s disappointing,» I thought to myself. The second pair had only been worn once or twice, so were not showing the same level of distress, but upon closer inspection, it was clear that they were headed towards the same issue.
I resolved to return both pairs and exchange them for something that wouldn’t sprout a hole after three uses.
Returning to the store, I greeted the associate working and explained the issue I was having including pointing out the specific area that was worn through. I then listened for several minutes in utter disbelief as the associate proceeded to explain to me that they would not take the socks back because… wait for it… because I had worn them with shoes.
Let me repeat that.
The socks were not returnable because I had worn them with shoes – it was the shoe’s fault and therefore not a manufacturer’s defect.
I’m going to just pause here to let you, dear reader, consider that logic. Oh wait, there’s no reason to pause, because it defies logic.
All I could think of listening to the associate yammer on about how this was my shoe’s fault was that this was going to make a heck of a Unilocal review. And really, as I think about it, there is only one answer I should have been given: «I’m so sorry. Please pick out whatever you want from the store in exchange for these socks.» But that was not to be.
Thinking back to that sign, I have to say, that it’s a two way street. The management of Sock Monster has the right to ask that customers not rip them off. In exchange, customers have a right to ask that Sock Monster stand behind their merchandise and when expectations are not met, treat the customer appropriately. Sadly, that was not to be and that is why I will never step foot inside Sock Monster again.
Way to go Sock Monster. Over, probably less than $ 20 at cost, you’ve lost a new and enthusiastic customer who probably would have spent a couple hundred dollars a year. And, you earned your first one-​star Unilocal review.
Was it worth it?

I love quality socks and tights. But between the cheesy novelty socks hung up in the window (which I am simply not interested in) and my assumption that this store would be as useful to me as a local bookstore — overpriced with a smaller selection than can be found at
, I had never been inside The Sock Monster even though I had driven by it a couple hundred times in the past few years.
Last week, I was early to meet my sister for lunch at Miyabi and just so happened to be in the market for some leg warmers — so I decided to finally see what this place was about… to be honest, I’ve always wondered how they stayed in business for this long selling socks (a la my comment about bookstores). They showed me.
This place has a great selection — Later that day I searched for the leg warmers I purchased at The Sock Monster on
and found that The Sock Monster was less expensive and had a greater selection (mind blown). But what really sealed the deal for me, was that the employee who helped me was SO knowledgeable, dare I say, passionate, about socks. She went on about the yarn and how this item would stay on in comparison to another. You can’t tell that stuff online!
I’m sold.
If you’ve been driving by The Sock Monster for years like I had, just get out of your car and check it out already.

I see their both every year at Bumbershoot Not as extensive as their store as there is only so much that you can pack and take with you in a both, however, the selection they do bring with them caters to all sorts and is a good stock of samples of what they carry down in their store front. I all about the fun socks. In fact I am a bit of a sock whore :) The prices are very reasonable.

As some previous reviews said, I stopped by to kill time for a restaurant to open, and also because Sock Monster looked intriguing. They had tooooons of socks, a huge variety that ranges from animal print, patterns, and even names of liquors lol. Besides just socks, they have all sorts of other things. I think this place is a good spot to get a cool gift for a friend. Especially if they have a pair of socks that suits them. They also have a rewards card which I thought was very convenient! I will definitely come back again. .

Stopped in to pass the time and was impressed with the awesome items that Sock Monster is rocking. I wish I was the type to wear knee high socks more frequently, I’m pretty sure I’d buy half the items here. There are socks in all colors with creative patterns and images. Found some great gift items here that my friends loved (yay for unicorn socks!). Most of the socks are in the $ 10 range which (I think) is quite reasonable.

Awesome place to get socks. They’ve got more variety than I imagined and they’ve got women’s, men’s, as well as children’s socks. We spent quite a bit of time in here just browsing around and looking at all the interesting concepts. You can find a sock for any occasion, bday, bachelorette, silly, cute, etc. They also offer gift wrapping (boxes, tissue paper) for a mere $ 1.

Cute little store with some serious toe action. Ok, that sounded weird. The store is not weird.
In fact, it’s an excellent place if you need to color coordinate or match socks with whatever. They have every sock you can think of and I was pleasantly impressed that they carry a wide range of tights too. Lots of the labels advertise what is in the garment) cotton, wool, environmentally friendly materials) as well as where it was made.
The prices are definitely higher than what you would find at Target let’s say but the options are more interesting and mostly better made. I got their point card though I am not sure I will buy enough socks anytime soon to get the discount. I hear the card couples with a bunch of other shops but I haven’t tried them. They also have a sales corner which I should check more often…

The service here was good.
They carry handmade USA made products but mostly Asian made.
It’s a fun novelty for the most part colorful store.
I bought usa made lacey leg warmers there for $ 25. Very cute and hard to find cute ones so I grabbed them.

I’ve never seen such a complete sock shop before! All shapes and sizes and colors. The place was so vibrant and adorable!
The lady on duty was attentive enough yet gave enough space for me to roam and pick at the socks I wanted.
Anything you were looking for — knee highs, sneak a peaks, tights, stockings, leg warmers, mittens, 5 toe socks. All patterns and colors.
They also had a series of 100% cotton socks. I bought a pair of sneak a peak socks. Wished they had more designs or brands…
Also wished they had smart wool socks but didn’t see any.
A delight to spend some time and indulging in sock goodness!

Wait. Did you say socks? I had no idea this place existed until I saw some friends check-​in on Unilocal.What was even more fantastic is the same friends that were so enthusiastic about the shop took me there for some socky treats!
I go by The Sock Monster all the time; I could not figure out why I had never been there. Located in a small storefront is another world, one full of stripes, sushi, and zombies, to name a few. So many to look at; so many to choose from. It was all rather overwhelming in a pretty amazing way. Knee high, thigh high, ankle, no show, you name it, they got it.
My friends bought me socks! How cool is that? Very cool! I picked out a pair of dragon socks that matched a dragon shirt I just got a few days before that. How perfect is that? I picked out another pair of socks with expletives, you know, # ! @ \, which totally fits the words that frequently come out of my mouth, lol.
Lest you think there’s just socks there, you’d be wrong — you can also find bunches of very cool gloves there as well. Leg warmers, water bottles, clear cups, and so much more. I don’t know how long it will take for me to feel like I’ve seen everything in the store but I’m looking forward to my next visit. Socks are cool and here’s where you find them!

This place is so fun to wander! If I had a trillion dollars, I would buy so many socks!!! Alas… I am on a budget.

Today, I sing you a song of socks-​pence.
Socks are an understated piece of clothing, in my opinion. I used to be a fan of Boston Socks growing up (are they still around?) and Sock Monster is my toes’ new best friend!
I love good service, and theirs can’t be beat. I never knew I could have such an engaging conversation about socks with somebody before. I wonder if they get a pair of socks free for every month they work there? If so, I’m totally putting in an application.
They have socks of all shapes, styles, colors, and lengths, including tights and other accessories – to complement those new socks! Currently, my favorite socks are the knee-​high ones, emblazoned with inspirational (?) words: Tofu, Whiskey, Business (my current favorite), Vodka, Bacon, etc. They are the PERFECT thickness (meaning, not thick, yet soft) for soccer, weight-​lifting, running — when you need to keep them calves warm — or just lounging around the house and letting people know that you have your «Socks» socks on. I mean it. My newest purchase ($ 10) are a pair of socks that just say, «Socks» on them ^_​^
Get your very own ninja/​zombies/​spider/​penguin/​crow/​cupcake/​3-​Toed Sloth socks at the Monster! They also have a new electronic method of keeping track of your purchases so you can get a discount on your umpteenth pair (it’ll happen in no time, I promise.)

I love Sock Monster in the spring time.
I love Sock Monster in the fall.
I love Sock Monster in the summer when it sizzles.
I love Sock Monster in the winter when it’s snowing.
I love Sock Monster, oh why oh why do I love Sock Monster? Because my LOVE is there…(socks, of course).
Whenever I am in Wallingford, I make it a must to visit. And even when I’m nowhere near Wallingford, I find myself here. It’s like crack.
I can easily spend over $ 50 in less than 5 minutes. My all-​time favorite knee-​high socks, Sock It to Me, are in abundance here. There is often a sale if you buy 2 of these brand, you get the 3^rd pair half off! Can’t beat it.
They used to have a punch card (now replaced by an electronic card) that you use to keep track of how many socks (or $ 10 equivalent) you bought. Once you reach so many punches, you get $ 20 worth of socks. This came in super handy recently when I went to get socks as a Christmas party exchange present. The people who received them left happy campers.
Do you think they have meetings for people who are addicted to knee-​high socks? Because I’m about to OD on cuteness.
