Underground Events Center

I love this space. It has fostered my creativity and has been a super power in supporting Seattle Art. The event here are always fun and I LOVE THE PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET! Thank you for providing a venue for art, music and goo times!

I went the Underground Events Center to take a peek at the Punk Rock Flea Market. I imagined wispy booths with exotic fragrances, and an eclectic mix of Arab rugs and people donned in wifebeaters with dangling suspenders, a sneer and Doc Martins at the ready. There may even have been the old man in a corner with the Hellraiser box, just waiting for a new customer.
What was cool, is that it was almost that exotic. The guy at the front waved me in and said that I could pay on the way out, since I had a large bill. I went downstairs and was immediately ensconced in a heaving mass of bodies (that sounds nastier than it really was), in a fairly small space. There were quite a few vendors there offering their wares, which ranged from t-​shirts to Steampunk jewelry to used DVDs. There was one mysterious woman who had several vials of something that may or may not summon pixies.
The crowd was friendly and saw a lot of quality arts and crafts for sale. Part of me was wondering whether it was going to be a crapload of old stereo equipment passed off as «vintage», but I didn’t see any of that stuff there. Or maybe I just missed the Vintage crap section.
Anyway it was a cool little sojourn into the bowels of Belltown and I’ll definitely go again.

I came here tonight to check out the Punk Rock Flea Market. The space is a bit quirky. Sort of two largish rooms divided by a bar area. Reminds me of the places I used to go to back in the day that showcased the local punk rock scene in anytown, U.S.A. Think local 4H club, elementary school gym or community center. As for the Flea Market, It was really cool. All the vendors were as nice and helpful as can be and I even got a few purchases out of it. Neat space that I will be checking out for more events!

I don’t frequent Belltown. I really don’t.
Except for when I’m actually participating in an event or there’s something amazing and weird happening.
Which was why I was at the Underground. A fabulous event that I was participating in.
And I have to admit that the Underground is a pretty kick ass space. It’s big, there are 2 stages, plus a green room, room for 2 bars, and a big parking lot attached to it, so if you’re unloading, it’s not as painful as parking on 1^st and carrying stuff down the stairs to the space itself.
The only downfall is that there isn’t a lot of ventilation — being that it’s a basement, but I guess that’s what large fans are for.

I really appreciate this place. It’s a simple and straightforward punk club, a basement with two big rooms, two stages and a bar. It’s only open for events, but the events they put on — from punk shows to film festivals are never short of amazing. The Punk Rock Flea Market is really special, and the musical events they host are pretty great. The Occultural Music Festival, the Dead Baby Bike Club Film Festival, the Seattle Stencil Jam, all of it. Plus the people who work there seem to be volunteers who don’t mind pouring super strong drinks or even letting you step behind the bar. I’ll definitely go back there. I hope it lasts.

The entrance to this place is right across from Macrina Bakery & Café and a couple doors down from Cyclops on 1^st Ave*.
I’ll be 100% honest: I thought this location would be bigger. I went here for the Punk Rock Flea Market and I was expecting lots of nooks and crannies to explore. Maybe some type of labyrinth or a catacomb-​like atmosphere.
It was not meant to be. No noticeable crannies, sorely lacking in the nooks department. It’s a large room with a stage for music with some standing room in front of it, a bar, and on the other side of the bar there’s space where tables can be set up for merchandise.
It’s a really cozy space. I imagine if a great band was playing on stage I would go back and enjoy it a lot. Just don’t expect to have multiple spacious rooms to wander through and you’ll dig it a lot.
