This is a place where you come for tea with your friends and family. Coffee or Tea… Dessert for 3, you’ll be happy you came to Muir’s for any occasion. On our first trip, we had the«Full-Size Lunch Combo» with the Hummus Sandwich and the Tomato Bisque Soup, which were both divine. I had«The Doorway to a New World» with the Toasted Walnut and Pear Finger Sandwich, a scone with strawberry jam and«clotted cream.» The mini dessert was eaten so fast I didn’t find out what it was. The highlight of my Tea Service was the«Scottish Highlands Tea.» We topped our meals off with a Tea-Based Sweetheart Cupcake To Go. My husband said it was, «The BEST cupcake I’ve ever eaten.» On our 2nd visit, we began with the Roasted Chickpea Appetizer and a bowl of the Lentil Soup. We ordered the Sausage Roll, which you must eat with the mustard and mayonnaise that come with it… it makes a big difference! The Southwestern Corncakes with the guacamole were even BETTER the next morning when we had them for breakfast. The Black Beans in the Lettuce Cup with the Pearl Tomatoes that came on top of the Verde Chili Sauce were just amazing. My husband’s Teriyaki Portobello Mushroom had a generous serving of a Vegetable Quinoa dish that had the most delicious Roasted Vegetables along side it. How did they make those vegetables taste SO good? Our feast ended with the best chocolate cake I’VE ever tasted in my life. My husband who likes to try new and different things passed up the Strawberry Almond Cupcake(2 of his favorite flavors) for another one of the Tea-Based Sweetheart Cupcakes! So, you know he was telling the truth when he said it was, «The BEST cupcake I’ve ever eaten.» If you love Scottish Beauty or the the British Experience, then be sure to indulge yourself in this amazing American«Austenland» Dream filled with the full elegance of Victorian ambience, the exquisite culinary delights of Chef Tika and of course, the most brilliant Tea Service directed by Muir’s most incredible Tea Room Manager, Keith. This is one of those incredible experiences you will always remember. Come soon and you will definately come often!

Wow, this place was awesome. From the quant Victorian house to the delicious goodies, Muir’s Tea Room really takes the [tea] cake. The food is delicious, the presentation beautiful, and the staff friendly. I love that it’s vegan, but that isn’t highlighted so most visitors probably don’t even know – and the food is so amazing that they don’t care. We’re already planning a reason to return!

Best coffee in Sebastopol. Actual espresso coffee that doesn’t taste like the regular burnt bitter American coffee. For the Aussies, the barista even knew what a flat white was! This place is vegan so your milk options are soy, almond, coconut etc

Muir’s has become my favorite restaurant of all time. The food is fabulous. I have loved everything I have tried, and I have tried everything on the menu. The service is top notch. Christine, the owner always stops by to chat. She is warm and friendly just like her tea house. I eat there at least once or twice a month. My husband who is not a vegan loves eating there as much as I do. You must try Muir’s tea and coffee house. You will not be disappointed, in fact you will utterly delighted.

Came by for a quick bite and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was Harry Potter theme day! The dessert case was full of colorful items from“Honeydukes” such as Chocolate Frogs, Treakle Tarts and Exploding Bön Bons. I ordered a mushroom pastie which was savory, stuffed full of mushrooms and wrapped in a flaky buttery crust. Then I had to indulge in a Chocolate Cauldron Cupcake, because it was so fun and unique. The cake was moist dark chocolate with a coffee cream mousse frosting and there was even a chocolate candy handle! All the selections are vegan and some are gluten-free as well. My order was taken by a charming Harry Potter look-alike dressed for a day at Hogwarts. He provided friendly service and took a moment from his studies and spell casting to pose with his owl for a photo.

Muir’s Tea Room is in a charming spot in downtown Sebastopol. While they can be a challenge to find, they are worth it. They’re across the street from the Chamber of Commerce, and practically next door to the post office. They’re in a beautiful Queen Anne with an elegant Victorian garden. John Muir’s portrait overlooks the dining room. Muir lived in nearby Martinez with his wife&two daughters(now a Historic Monument with the National Parks), explaining this tea room’s feminine atmosphere. Since John Muir founded the Sierra Club&inspired the National Parks, the tea room’s menu is vegan. Vegan restaurants in the North Bay tend to find a home in quirky Sebastopol. Muir’s Tea Room locally sources its teas from Mr. Trombly’s in nearby Duncans Mills. Their Enchanted Forest tea is enchanting– the menu poetically describes it as tasting like chocolate cherry– and yes, as a chocolate cherry flavored green tea it doesn’t need cream or sugar for that matter. Dessert in a cup. The sandwich samplers are excellent. Their traditional cucumber sandwich, along with the walnut pear one, are filling little bites. Their Field Roast with guacamole is superb– since meat analogs can be pretty awful. In this case, it works. Muir’s Tea Room fits in with Sebastopol’s quirky vibe. They have friendly attentive service, wonderful food, and the perfect cup of tea!

All my little Vegan dreams came true. Came here to celebrate my birthday and I can’t wait to come back. The owner and gentleman working were both extremely sweet and attentive but not in an annoying way. They really made my birthday so so special and I can’t thank them enough. My mom and sister shared a Hope of the World tea rack, and so did myself and my boyfriend. Everything was DELICIOUS and the petit desserts were all so perfect. There was also a little girl celebrating her birthday and they had a fairy who took them to the front garden and was doing activities with them. The 2 hour drive was well worth it. I would reccomend Lime Chiffon tea and Grandma’s Garden.

This is my new favorite place! First off, I am a total Victorian-era, rose-loving, girly-girl addict. I’ve always loved the idea of Tea Rooms but thought they were way too expensive. This place is absolutely beautiful, the food(from the tea to the mini-desserts) was some of the best I have ever had in a restaurant, and the service was warm and friendly. And with all that, the prices were budget friendly. The only issue? I wish they were in Windsor instead of Sebastopol!

I recently went here for my 15th birthday and its absolutely amazing! The staff were the kindest people ever. I loved the selection of teas and foods you get! My 3 year old sister even enjoyed it! If you ever have a chance to come here you should! This tea room makes you feel like you’re at home, it’s comfortable and relaxing.

Muir’s Tea Room is a treasure trove of goodies. If you’re coming for a full tea service, be prepared to dedicate a couple hours to enjoying all the delicacies they have to offer… and there are many!

Two words: little gem! This adorable tea house is a a wonderful spot for most any little or grown up girl. The location is low key enough for a kindergartner to enjoy a tea service with her favorite grown up or for grown up girls to meet up with friends. I was invited to early afternoon tea with a group of friends and was delighted to walk up to this charming little Victorian house on the main drag in Sebastopol. As I looked around the room, patrons of all ages were comfortably seated in the cute little dinning area. There were four year olds in princess attire, a group of retired women gathered for a birthday celebration, and my group of 30 and 40 somethings. Each of us enjoying the unique and special setting. There were many highlights to the experience. The staff was attentive, and courteous. The owner was also present the time we were dinning and came by the table to say hello and to thank us for our visit. The server was helpful in suggesting items for our party of four. We loved the beautifully presented sandwiches and pastries. I also appreciated the relaxed atmosphere; I never felt rushed. We had the opportunity to try most of the items on the menu; the soup of the day was a tasty curried carrot soup. The only thing notable for me was that I was not aware of the fact the menu was fully vegan so clotted cream for scones and cream for your tea are not an option(Almond, Soy, or Coconut milk are the available options). To summarize, if you are looking for a change of pace and want to take some time to enjoy conversation and a snack, I recommend the Muir Tea room for an experience that is a change of pace from the«normal» coffee/tea house. It is a true delight to the senses.

Every female growing up played tea party with their dolls. I was no exception to that rule. Only difference, my tea pot only consisted of water and«pretending» it was actual tea. Now, I’m a big girl and I can have all the tea I want. When my honey told me we were going to a tea place for«brunch» before our Anniversary trip. I was beyond excited, almost giddy. Why you may ask? Because after being vegan, the only thing you can purchase at a tea place is tea. Say goodbye to scones, clotted cream, petite desserts and mini sandwiches. Suddenly the heaven’s gates opened and Muir Tea Room was on the other side. *birds chirping, harps playing* When we arrived to the tea room. It totally reminded me of tea. It’s not your typical commercial style building. This tea room is inside a beautiful white house adorned with flowers and foliage all around. We walked up the stairs and was greeted by a friendly gentlemen. He seated us right next to the window. At first it was cold, but realized after drinking tea it started getting hot. We decided to go all out and order«Hope of the World» which is basically the whole tea experience for two. We were able to pick our own salad and sandwich choices from the menu. Almost everything was absolutely delicious with the exception of the Sausage roll. The roll was so too mushy and the«sausage» was more like a hot dog. Not a fan. My favorite of the sandwiches was the field roast. I could have eaten a full size for sure! As for the scones, it was more like biscuit and even the shape, I wouldn’t call it a scone. Usually scones are shaped in a triangle fashion. These were round. I enjoyed the Enchanted Forest with Almond. The desserts were a hit and miss. I think it was because, I was extremely full. So, I couldn’t fully enjoy it. The tea was great. You can’t go wrong. If you love tea, obviously you’ll love this place. I told my honey, he has to take me here once a month. He agreed and I didn’t have to do a lot of convincing.

«I’m a little teapot, short ‘n stout. Here is my handle, here is my spout.» Yep, that pretty sums up my knowledge of tea rooms. It wasn’t until I met my babygirl that I found out that people actually have tea parties. Tea and scones, what? Gimme some coffee with my pastries any day! However, once I heard from fellow Unilocaler, Rosanne P, that there was an all Vegan tea room located way out in Sebastopol, I knew I had to bring my sweetie here for a special occasion ASAP! What better way to get our anniversary vacation started right than High Tea in a classic Victorian style home. The young gentleman that was working here on the day we visited was extremely nice and courteous. He checked on us often, as well as explained every item as he delivered it to the table. The timing of the dishes was better than most fancy restaurants that we’ve been to. He certainly made the dining experience more enjoyable. Of course being our first time, we went balls out on the«Hope of the World» which was their largest spread suitable for two people, probably more depending on your appetite. At $ 47.95, it’s not a bad price for two hungry folks. You could certainly order less on your next visit, but I suggest this as a way to try it all. Both salads we ordered were phenomenal. They would earn five stars if it were in any«normal» restaurant. The Thai salad in particular. The soup of the day was a tasty tortilla with avocado. Not having been to a tea room, I thought it was odd to have soup and salad along with tea. Apparently that is the norm? It doesn’t matter because that was the best thing here. I would dine here for that alone. They mentioned that they plan to begin dinner soon. If the soup & salad is any indication, then that should be a successful endeavor. The application of a beer & wine license out front is particularly intriguing.
After the soup and salad courses, they delivered an entire rack full of Vegan goodness to our table. 3 types of finger sandwiches, 2 scones, a sausage roll, and a whole host of petite desserts. Everything was good to great except for the sausage roll. A bit disappointing since it was what I was looking forward to the most. Oh well, the desserts were fantastic and the biscuit like scones made me wish that they offered a biscuits and gravy type dish. These little biscuits were outstanding, if not necessarily a scone as I’m used to. Best believe I made full use of their bottomless pots of tea. The oolong and green tea that we ordered were both excellent. I never thought I would enjoy sipping tea while eating something other than desserts. No ulterior motives such as a beer excursion are needed to get me to drive all the way out to Muir’s Tea Room. I would make the long trek out here for this experience alone. I could get used to this tea party shit! Pinkies up, bitches!

What a treat it was to be taken by my family on Mother’s Day to this charming Tea Room. The service was first class and the staff were all very friendly. The Tea tasted superb in the bone china cups and the food was so tasty. All my family enjoyed the soup, salad, finger sandwiches and all the sweet delicacies. I would and have recommended many of my friends to pay a visit when they can to this Wonderful cottage garden Tea Room. I have to add that I have been a Vegan for 12 years and this was one of the nicest experiences I have had for a brunch in a long time. Thank you Muir Tea Room

Where else in the world can you combine tea culture and veganism? Sebastopol is the perfect spot for this sweet little tea house. I took my mom here for Mother’s Day last weekend, and we had a perfectly lovely time. It’s hard to believe that the food is 100% vegan, as the scones and other pastries are delightful. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the place is decorated with just the right amount of knick knacks– it does not quite cross the line into twee, a line that I think must be very hard to walk. I love that it’s named for and themed around John Muir, the great conservationist. It’s like they’ve taken a British tradition and put a California spin on it. My one and only slight hesitation and the reason I did not give it 5 stars is that I wish there were more/different tea options. I cannot drink black tea, and they make up most of the menu. There wasn’t a ton of variety in the green teas, and there was only one red tea(Lime Chiffon Rooibos– which I had and was delicious) on the menu. I would love to see some options like(herbal) rose tea, Early Grey rooibos, Earl Grey sencha, Marrakesh mint green tea, and even lavendar sencha. There are SO many tea varieties out there now, I don’t think it’s necessary to stick to the basics. Get more teas on the menu, and I will become a regular!

Muir’s Tea Room is a dream come true! Who would have thought, a tea room with all vegan food?! I’m so there! Muir’s Tea Room is a lovely Victorian home converted into a tea room with delicious vegan food, inspired by the conservationist, John Muir. By dining there we all become conservationists ourselves since eating vegan food saves our environment! I made a reservation for our party of 10 a month prior and the woman that I spoke to on the phone was so nice! My friends and I were so excited and looking forward to our vegan tea party. We even got all dressed up in tea attire. The Victorian home was so lovely with flowers and trees around. It really was the perfect space to open a tea house. They had a little mini gift shop inside with cute decorative items and tea items for sale. Before we left I couldn’t help but buy a cute ducky porcelain creamer to take home with me. At the beginning there was a minor problem with our seating since they had us separated at different tables but I was able to clear it up with the owner. She helped push our tables together and everything was great after that. We all ordered our choice of tea racks, with 3 tiers — sandwiches on the bottom, scone in the middle and desserts on the top. They all came with a bottomless pot of tea and, depending on which rack you order, you also get soup and/or salad. I chose the Queens Rose Garden tea and it was perfect and slightly sweet. I loved it! I also fell in love with the Thai salad and the fingers sandwiches were wonderful as well. I chose Field Roast(thinly sliced tomato, Field Roast, garlic aioli, Chao jack cheese and avocado on wheat) and«Eggless» salad(tofu, pickles and seasonings on white) sandwiches. One of my friends, Sarah D, was a regular and it was so sweet how they brought out a complimentary cupcake just for her with«vegan princess» written on the plate. What a nice way to recognize their regular customers! Even though Muir’s Tea Room is an hour and a half drive for me, I will happily go back real soon to enjoy it again. It was also a real treat to visit the Sebastopol Farmer’s Market and unique shops downtown. I’m looking forward to my next visit there!

Do you believe in magic in a young girl’s heart? If you do, you will believe in Muir’s Tea Room. I had had them bookmarked for quite some time, almost immediately after they opened, but had lost hope because Sebastopol isn’t so close to where I live, and I don’t drive. However, over the past few months, I have become a lot closer with my East Bay vegan squad, and they were kind enough to plan a group outing for 10 of us! Rosanne P. made the reservation for us last month, and I was literally counting down the days. Robin said that we should all dress up for the occasion, so I went out and bought a brand new flowing frock and was ready to go! I did not buy a hat nor gloves, but I didn’t wear sneakers, so that was a big step in the right direction! Immediately upon pulling up to this place, we were oohing and ahhing. The exterior is lovely and welcoming, with lush trees, flowers, and a charming sign outside of a white picket fence. This is the kind of house I would like to own someday! There was a minor snafu at the beginning regarding seating, but we managed to clear it up with some help from the owner. She was super helpful and accommodating. I can tell that she is passionate about her business. She went out of her way to ensure that we were having a blast. I really appreciated that. So fair warning for all of you naysayers: this place is entirely plant-based! Vegans rejoice! You can eat absolutely everything on the menu, so feel free to smother your scone with clotted cream and jam, splash some milk in your tea, and dig into those delicate finger sandwiches. Now, don’t go shooting it down before you even give them a chance. Their food is delicious! They have a vast array of food options, from salads, sandwiches, desserts, and even tea racks that include a little bit of everything. I highly recommend these! Most of us ordered the Close To Nature’s Heart, which includes a soup or salad, 2 types of finger sandwiches, a scone with jam, and assorted desserts. I enjoyed the slice of banana bread and the chocolate chip scone. Make sure you ask for the clotted cream on the side. It looks a lot like butter but it tastes phenomenal when slathered on your toasty warm scone. I’m not an overly girly-girl, but I thought everything inside was completely precious. There are cute gifts everywhere, a unicorn sitting on a table, gorgeous wallpaper and charming cups, saucers, plates. One minor complaint: the teacups might need to be washed better, as some of them seemed to be stained from the tea. I quite enjoyed my Enchanted Forest tea, but the Lime Chiffon was probably my favorite. The staff seems to work really hard and are super friendly. This was an especially busy Sunday for them but they made our first experience a very special one. My friend Sarah D. is a regular here and they brought her out a cupcake with the words«Vegan Princess» on the plate(written in pink frosting). So sweet! I am completely enamored with Muir’s Tea Room. I just wished that I lived closer so that I could visit more often.

What a great experience my family and I had here. Nice, neat Victorian house, with wonderfully aromatic flowers surrounding the house. Inside is bright and sunny with welcoming, attentive staff. Our glasses were always refilled without asking. The chef/owner came over, introduced herself and received many praises for her modernistic vegan take on high tea. Recommend ordering the«Hope of the World, «a great tour for your palate. From the warm garden fresh soup to the delicious cornucopia of vegan pastries its a must try.

I tried this place out this week and can’t say enough great things about this darling little place. Absolutely beautiful exterior with gorgeous flowers(I posted a picture!). Inside it’s a sunny, cute little house perfect for afternoon tea or lunch. My friend and I split the tea for two which included soup, salad, choice of three sandwiches, sweets, scones with cream with jelly, and a sausage roll. Oh. did I mention this place is vegan? It was an afterthought as you absolutely CANNOT tell. I am not vegan, or even vegetarian, and I could not believe how amazing everything was. This place is an absolute gem!

This place is beautiful, starting with an old Victorian on the outside and continues throughout on the inside. Bright. Clean. Cozy. A friend and I had Afternoon Tea for the first time there and as if the décor itself wasn’t enough to make you want to sit a spell, the food will make you want to linger even longer — delicious! And yes, there’s more… we had the BEST hostess!(am so sorry that I have forgotten her name) Fantastic personality. Informative, not only about the food but about the house itself. Went out of her way to make our visit just that much more pleasurable. I(we) will be back! Do NOT miss out on this lovely gem in Sebastopol.
