Everybody must get stoned, especially at this combination gem, rock&fossil store with Grateful Dead memorabilia. A one-stop shop where one can get Shiva lingam, a Jerry Garcia action figure, along with fossils and crystals. They sell sodas&ice creams(unfortunately, no Cherry Garcia) out of Jerry Garcia’s restored old fridge when he lived in Nicasio. The Uncarved Block has improved. Their selection is easier to find, more affordable, and has been considerably cleaned up. The owners are friendly, especially the sagely, leather-kilt wearing senior who knows everything about geology&the Grateful Dead. To quote the dictum of «What are you grateful for?»

Such a beautiful and unique place! So many amazing specimens, whether you are a long time collector or just getting into gems and stones this place is perfect. Even for people who are just looking for a gift of sorts they have many fun things such as jewelry and memorabilia! I’ve been coming here for years and have always been satisfied with the customer service, prices and items I’ve bought.

Well, really, um what do you even compare this to. It is a REALLY big shop full of REALLY cool rocks. Some polished, some unpolished, some big, some small, some short, some tall. But before I go all Dr. Suess on the descriptions, I will just edit my thoughts and say it was just a really cool place to see some amazing stones, semiprecious stones and gems, and really cool crystals. The guy behind the counter was very cool and chill. My daughter got a few polished rocks(bit pricey for«fill your bag» kind of stones but whatever) and a few dinosaur teeth. I have no idea if they are real. I’m assuming so given the information though! Also if you are a Grateful Dead fan, they have a TON of memorabilia and merchandise to pick from. Even a chair that one of them owned! So why only 4 stars? The prices seems a BIT high for the stones I knew things about. I won’t go and say I’m an expert but the prices seemed just a bit north of what I’ve seen near San Jose and Mariposa. BUT again I’m no expert. Enjoy and explore the uncarved block!

I was impressed with the selection of stones and friendly staff. The Co-owner I met in the shop was friendly and directed me to some local groups who dig for crystals(and pan for gold) locally. When I asked if they had a larger selection of a certain stone, they pulled their stock from the back that hadn’t been priced yet. Will visit again when I’m looking for another crystal for my collection.

What a fantastic gem of a store! Super friendly staff. My son was over the moon to find fossilized dinosaur dung! Anyone awed by natural stones would be thrilled to walk into this place!

I really enjoy going to the Uncarved Block and I’m glad to have a rock shop like this in my neighborhood. As a crystal lover who loves working energetically with stones, I’ve found that the Uncarved Block has a large selection of both rare and commonly found rocks and minerals of all types. In that way, It’s like visiting an unofficial museum. You will see mineralogical finds here that are a step outside of the ordinary. Many of the rocks are in viewing cases and some are on the counters. They also have gemstone strands for making necklaces, and a BUNCH of Grateful Dead stuff. Stones from $ 1 – $ 10,000+. Good Stuff!

The Uncarved Block is a small store that specializes in selling minerals and crystals from around the world. The store boasts a wide variety of rocks, crystals and grateful dead collectables. I’m not really into all this stuff but the stores collection is really impressive. If I’m ever on the market for a rare piece of raw Rhodochrosite or corundum, the uncarved block will be the first store I’d go to. VERYIMPRESSIVESHOP!
