I like this place, I just don’t like how expensive it is. I put my son in summer camp and in after school programs and they do a great job with him. My son loves it, but it’s ridiculously pricey.

As a member going into 2014 and having been a member of different– better(Newport Athletic club) and worse(SK-YMCA) clubs, for the new lower monthly rates and caring individuals who work there it’s a GREAT bang for the buck! For any family in the area it’s a number one affordable choice with great child are. For single people who are looking for a social aspect also– probably not. It appears the top heavy Christian? Management from Providence have made changes and are bringing in Barrington management to improve and upgrade the facility in 2014. A total waste of money as the seasoned employees there could have handled that better on there own as excellent at listening to members complaints and handling them. Let’s hope Newman keeps it’s best and grows in a positive Seekonk way this year:)

I took a class here, but I am not a member. I found the price for the class to be quasi-reasonable. In line with other places, but overpriced given the state of the place. The facilities are fairly dated and could use some updating. The locker room looks like it hasn’t been touched in 20 years. The pool — likewise. Biggest complaint is that the pool is only 4 ½ feet deep. The folks who worked there are generally pleasant, and it is easily accessible with plenty of parking for East Providence and Seekonk folks.

I’m a fan of the Greater Providence YMCA network in general: great value for all-in-one gym access at 9 locations statewide(including Newman just over the border in Seekonk), classes, POOL, friendly staff, and investing in a community-based nonprofit supporting a health– positive mission for families. Newman is definitely out of the way for Providence dwellers, but a great option for anyone in East Providence. The open lap hours are more limited than the E. Side Y, but they’re one of the best for having a spacious, open workout room with lots of big mats for stretching and plenty-o specialized equipment, including my favorite — the Expresso bikes. Also nice to have the reliable lot parking and sauna in the locker rooms — both luxuries the East Side Y conspicuously lacks. The customer service has always been impeccable, too!
