Pros: Hubby LOVED his chicken fried steak and potatoes. Mashed potatoes and brown gravy was the bomb! Sweet Tea was very good. Our server Heather… she was so nice and patient. Had a minor problem and she took care of it, ASAP. It was a busy night yet, we were greeted and seated the minute we walked in. Chatted with the MGR/Owner and he was so pleasant. Nice family restaurant. Cons: Not many vegetarian choices. The fries were very hard and greasy. For me, what I had lacked flavor but I am picky.

Nice people and great service! Food is just ok and the men’s restroom could use a little attention. I hard their Grilled Chicken and Sweet Potato fries. Both to me we bland tasting. Prices are very good. Would I go back? I don’t think so.

Was looking to meet a friend for lunch before heading over to Seguin Brewing Company. Amy’s and Cathy’s isn’t open on weekends… Boo. Tavern on the Creek isn’t open until dinner on Saturday… Boo. I didn’t feel like a delicious breakfast taco for lunch so Las Palmas was out of the question. Running out of options here. I hadn’t heard of JJ’s Café(wasn’t around when I graduated ’07), but it looked like it had down-home cooking so we figured we’d give it a go. I started with the fried pickles, which were very good; albeit a bit greasy. That’s pretty par for the course with fried pickles. No harm, no foul. Moving on. I almost copped out and went with the BBQ chicken sandwich, but life’s too short to play it safe. We’re here for comfort food so I decided to brave the meatloaf. My first impression was«Man, this is A LOT of food for $ 8.» The portions are very generous. Where was this place when I was ballin’ on a budget in college? Yeah right, I wasn’t spending $ 8 on a meal. It was at CiCi’s, H-E-B Chinese(did it even have a name?) or grabbing a Big Texas Cheese Burger for $ 1.25 at Jack-N-the-Box. Anyway, back to the meatloaf. The flavor was solid, but it wasn’t the same temperature all the way through and there was a bit of gristle to navigate. Combine the two and I’m not overly thrilled. For my sides, I had the twice-baked potato, which was a disaster, and the fried okra. The potato was so dry. The cheese made for a nice brown crisp layer… one that unfortunately didn’t hold any moisture in. I don’t know if this thing was just sitting under a heat lamp or they accidentally burned it, but I’ve attended too many Central Texas potlucks where grandma rocks twice-baked potatoes like Dale rocks the drums in Step Brothers for this thing to pass any taste tests. The fried okra was on point, and like everything else, was a generous portion. The Texas toast was a nice compliment as well. The food wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad either. It’s quite similar to Luby’s, but more bang for your buck. The restaurant was clean and the waitresses were very friendly and attentive — even if the whole vibe reminded me more of a truck stop than a southern café.

Needless to say, the salad was so good I forgot to take a picture before I started eating. I also indulged in some fried pickles which sounds weird to me but surprisingly they were okay. They get a lot of business and I see why.

Had the ¾ lb Ribeye. The ribeye was dry with no flavor what so ever. It almost feels like the chef forgot to use salt and pepper.

Great in a small town local diner kinda way! Quaint, very friendly service, food is amazing! Would be nice if they had more healthy and/or gluten free options. The parking lot is squishy and there is a terribly squeaky door that kept hurting my ears, but no complaints otherwise. I had the sliders and they were sooo good!

I usually have their grilled fish tacos and ask for a side of their chipotle sauce. Good-sized tasty meal and I love their unsweetened iced tea. Also, great service.

I ordered chicken and dumplings off of the lunch menu. It came with a side salad and cornbread. The salad was large and it tasted fresh. The cornbread was ok. The dumplings and chicken were good, but the broth/gravy had a peculiar taste to it… somewhat acidic. I would not order it again, however, I would return and try something different on another visit.

Never been here before — great fried zucchini, pork chops, twice baked potatoes, fried shrimp, and burgers. Friendly service… Reasonable prices … We’d come back the next time through…

Nestled in the front corner of the dining room is a really cute sign with a coffee cup. It reads«I only have a kitchen because it came with the house». I was shocked to see that in a restaurant, but realized that it totally fits. We had eaten here twice before since it opened and was disappointed in the blandness of the food. Decided to give them another try(with the help of a gift certificate), and sadly it wasn’t any better. The fried foods were undercooked, greasy and soggy, the grilled items overdone and dry. The twice baked potato was gooey and bland. On the bright side the restaurant was clean and our waitress was sweet and attentive. I heard that the owners also own another restaurant in the next town and I am shocked because I’ve always loved that place. I wonder why the two are so different?

I have been here twice and both times it has been excellent! The first time I had the chicken fried steak, so yummy and flavorful. The next time I had the 6oz sirloin cooked to a perfect medium rare. I think it may just be the best steak I have ever eaten in Seguin! The service is second to none. Fast, friendly and boy do they work hard. The owner has been there both times working just as hard. She is not afraid or above clearing a table and working WITH her servers. Overall it’s great down home comfort food for a great price. Wish I wouldn’t have waited so long to give them a shot!

This is definitely the best restaurant in the area. The steaks are perfectly made. All of the food is delicious, and the wait staff is normally very nice. Ask to get your steak blackened, and they will put some nice spices on it for you. Delicious!

Tonight I dined alone. I chose the meatloaf with mash potatoes and rice pilaf as the sides. Iced tea was my beverage of choice. They don’t have sweet tea. You must sweeten it yourself. The meatloaf was really good. The sides were large portioned. The rice was ok. The wait staff was very energetic, friendly and attentive. Over all it was a good dinner. I’ll be back.

Had the prime rib special(Friday and Saturday nights). Prices were fair, service was attentive. Prime rib was excellent, as were the sides(salad, green beans, and twice-baked potato). Decent food is a rarity in Seguin… We’ll be back!

Always hot, fresh, and tastes. The meatloaf and chopped steak are two of my favorites. My husband loves the smokehouse burger. The plates are adequate. Servers are friendly and accommodating.

Ordered cobb salad and it was ok but not great. Salad didnt have too much flavorful. It was prepared a la carte and not mixed together in the bowl already. I’m sure chicken fried whatever is the main seller. Didnt have too many healthy items on the menu.

My meal(the grilled chicken) was rather bland but that alone was a 2 or 3-star transgression. The real travesty of the eve was when, much to my eternal anguish and regret, I glanced across the table(which wobbled mind you) to see my grimacing coworker’s pain stricken face! What could cause such misery in his normally jovial mug? I followed his eyes down to the table below, and subsequently, the source of the commotion. Forsooth, there upon his plate was a cob salad — completely devoid of corn! What horror. Truly an act and presentation deserving of 1 star if ever there has been on God’s green earth. Woe unto those who venture here henceforth, you’ve been warned.

Excellent menu, pricing and food — we had the fried vegetable appetizer and cobb salad and chicken fried steak. Staff was Texas-friendly and efficient and accurate with our order. Even had decent selection of wine(keeping in mind this is small-town Texas) — three reds and three whites.

Thought we’d try this new business which replaced the Malibu Burger Shack. We were pleasantly surprised at the excellent menu. A nice variety of comfort food with large portions. My wife had the chicken fried steal special which came with two sides. She chose the twice baked potato and broccoli. I had the chicken and dumplings which came with one side and a cornbread muffin. So overall the food was dang good. The only downside was the twice baked potato. It looked kind of sad and old. As far as the prices go? This was definitely on track for quality and quantity. Take a look at the pics. The total cost was about $ 24.00 for the two of us which included the tip. So when the cold weather arrives I intend to have nice lunches of comfort food at this place. They should be around a long time. I would have given five stars if the potatoes looked more presentable, perhaps on my next visit.
