I’ve always ordered the Bahama Mama, Spicy Tuna, Volcano Roll, Spicy Conch, and the Sashimi Boat.(I believe that’s what it’s called?!) I’ve ordered to go twice and both times the white fish in the sashimi boat wasn’t fresh. I was very disappointed, but everything else was scrumptious. I have to admit Jimmy’s can be pricy sometimes.

Forget all the«Shellfishness» in the world and come escape to Jimmy’s indigo paradise! The sushi is unreal and Jimmy’s Jumbo Roll is out of this world delicious! Jimmy is a great owner, who provides a fun atmosphere, so even if you aren’t the biggest raw fish fan; you should come just for the«halibut.»

Really enjoy the Donna Roll, the Volcano Roll and the Deluxe Spicy Tuna Roll. Portions are big so order one less roll than you would at other local places.

Excellent sushi! Great and friendly service! We ordered the infamous Jimmy roll, which was huge(BTW) and it was really very tasty. My wife also ordered a staple for her, the volcano roll and she said it was the best one she has had yet. Great compliment! I also had some sashimi, which was incredibly fresh and tasty. Highly recommend Jimmy’s.

I really wanted to love this place. I really did! The staff was nice, there was a lot to choose from, and they have three separate sushi stations, which was kind of cool. The parking lot is TINY, so give yourself a bit of time to find a spot(which might involve a brief walk from the parking lot next door…). My biggest gripe(and maybe it was just busy when I went) was the presentation. It didn’t seem like much effort went into making it look nice. The biggest issue was that a lot of our rolls were WAY too loose. I can understand if one or two pieces come apart, but my wife and I both had it happen on different rolls. Normally, I’d give this place a 3-star rating. But between the price and how hyped-up it seems to be, it’s more like a solid 2.5 for me.

I have dined in several times and the sushi is some of the best I have ever had. Last night we tried take out and honestly I thought could be risky. To my pleasant surprise not only was our order perfect the sushi also tasted as good as it would sitting in the restaurant. Favorite rolls, Triple threat, Volcano, Jumbo Jimmy, Eran roll for the kids.

Unfortunately I had to give this place a 3 star. I say unfortunately because the sushi is some of the best around. Everything was super fresh and delicious. However, this place has some serious drawbacks with the main one being the service. When we walked in we were greeted with an «excuse me» from the staff rushing past us and then being hurriedly seated a couple minutes later. The service was extremely slow the entire evening and the restaurant wasn’t even full. We were never asked once if our meal was ok. We had to ask for our water to be refilled 2 times and still waited 15 minutes. And getting the check was equally as slow. The décor is «meh» and looks like a typical older sushi place. Also, be warned there is very limited parking!

Tampa Roll… Crunchy Roll… Mexican Roll… Sexy Mama… it’s all FRESH and reasonably priced. Some of the BESTSUSHI in Tampa Bay. If you don’t like it… you don’t like good sushi. SERIOUSLY!

Are you kidding me??? This place is the best sushi around. I just love the hand rolls and Jimmy turned me on to a raw scallop hand roll that melts in your mouth. So I get it every angle time I roll into this place. Tonight I got takeout for the first time and just had to finally write a review. Go here and you wi t be disappointed. Be smart about what you order, ask lots of questions and don’t order something with things in it you don’t liked, like cream cheese or mayo… You get the point. Tell them what you do like and they’ll point you in the right direction. Get the tuna sashimi platter too! It freaking rocks!!!

Very happy with our experience tonight. Jimmy was friendly from the moment we sat down, with excellent recommendations. It was our fist time, and we were not disappointed. Unilocal reviewers came through, everything we ordered was top notch. We have had sushi almost everywhere we go in the country, and this was some of the best bag for our buck. Rolls were large, and fish was fresh. My wife also has worked at a few different sushi restaurants, so we know our sushi. Take it from some sushi snobs, Jimmy will not let you down.

Thanks to Unilocal and like sites where one can score on the reviews of others and find the hidden treasures and reap in the benefits. Jimmy’s is a joint out of the touristy fields and tucked in a nondescript strip mall off a busy expressway and close to residential area. Walking thru the doors and greeted by blue neon, an enticing aroma, friendly staff and crowded tables… You know you’ve hit the jackpot. The menu was generous and thoughtful. Feeling like kids on Xmas eve — We dined on a plethora of fresh, flavorful fare the sushi chef poured love and spirit into. Amazing meal!!! Thank you and here’s to Jimmy’s continued success!

I like to try a place twice before reviewing, just to ensure consistency and that I didn’t have a one off experience the first time(good or bad.) Good news: Jimmy’s was pretty enjoyable the first time, so I figured a return was in order last night. This review is for my second trip. I’m never afraid of strip mall joints. Most of my favorite restaurants and some of the best/most original foods created start in a strip mall. So this was right up my alley. The cute Jimmy logo on the table is endearing; this place doesn’t take itself too seriously. Does sushi need to be serious to be good? No. We ordered the sashimi scallops, because fresh scallops are heaven to me. I was disappointed that I asked the server how to mark them on the reusable menu for sashimi and she told me; however, the scallops came out over the rice. I didn’t make a big deal about and we dove in, since they looked delicious. And they WERE. Fresh, smooth, and the perfect amount of soy and roe to add flavor without covering up the scallop flavor. So order notation aside, happy camper here. Second was the special«Bob Roll»: spicy tuna inside, with avocado on the outside and Kani on top. It was delightful. The only thing I’d improve is the presentation of the rolls. I appreciate the thinner pieces because I’m a small human and large bites are just messy at best and uncomfortable at worst. However, the pieces laying down and being thin, they were somewhat difficult even for an advanced chopstick user to grab without everything slipping through the avocado and then the chopsticks. I still fought for each morsel. The last roll we ordered was the Mount Fuji Roll. This one was a bit disappointing. The baked seafood and sauce on top just wasn’t appealing looking. It looked like melted cheese and there was so much grease/oil it was tough to taste anything else; it overpowered the very clearly fresh tuna inside. Once I scraped the baked stuff off the top, the basic roll was good. I just hate dismantling food to get to the good stuff. The service was good, several servers tag teamed to take care of things, and I appreciated a suggestion to switch up a «special order» of a roll for a roll that was already on the menu, saving us a buck or two. A few minor things would put this over the top for me, and I’ll stick with the simple fresh fish; overall, I’m a fan of Jimmy’s.

Have been putting off this review for a while now just because I don’t want my favorite place to get too crowded… Anyways, Jimmy is the coolest chef there is and his place is the best. That’s really all there is to say.

I am here with my wife and it is out first time here. Man this place is awesome. We started looking at our menus and Jimmy told us don’t worry about it I’ll make you something good. So we had the spicy tuna and volcano and it was amazing. Then Jimmy gave us another entrée and sake as compliments on the house! This guy knows what he is doing and we will definitely be back!

Let’s start with how we were greeted by Jimmy as we walked in! In brief, best sushi I’ve had in Tampa/St Pete in past two years. Freshest fish in the area. Tuna is a amazing, especially the sashimi platter. Great selection of rolls(not too many with cream cheese, which is a huge bonus). As a California native, this is the closest to California sushi that I’ve found in Florida and will be my new staple.

DRIPPYANDSEXYSUSHI – REALLY These are the Rolls that make good photos – not necessarily the best for ‘Sushi purists’ though(which I prefer) because of many additions of various sauces they almost cover the original flavors of the Fish. The Triple Threat literally turned heads at its approach – a mountain of crunchy Scallions and Roe over plated Tuna.(Too much saucy approach). Bahama Mama with its spicy Conch, Salmon, Roe and lines of Hot Mayo(Very drippy and still too much saucy approach). The Baked Mussels also fell into this trap. Hot Atlantic Wasabi Roll – great Wasabi notes however the Green Roe provided too much of a sandy, crispy texture better served by Tempura flakes. THEBUSYDANCE Expect a packed house on weekend evenings(yet no waits) with staff running all over the place. Yet all employees manage to show grins. Jimmy’s is located in an unusual area(quiet for restaurants) and parking can be competitive. I got the impression a quarter of the diners are curious visitors not familiar with Sushi– perhaps I’m just stereotyping based on the location and all the southern accents questioning all items during my night.

I’ve been passing this place for years and never tried it. Last night after I realized Osaka was temporarily closed and couldn’t find any decent beachside sushi places, I ventured here. I’m glad I did. There’s a little community here that I plan on infiltrating. Customer after customer came in and said hi to Jimmy or said«bye Jimmy» on the way out. He acknowledged everyone of them nicely. The rest of the staff was nice as well. I sampled a volcano roll, a spider roll, and a gator roll. I love them all equally. We couldn’t finish them, but they were pretty spectacular. All that goodness on top of the volcano roll was to die for. I’ll definitely be back, but not for their wine selection. That part was not tasty.
