We would give this place 5 stars because they carry swiss water process decaf with good flavor and a fair trade label. But we bumped our rating down to 3 stars for the less than friendly service by the female employee who runs the cash register. Sadly, it’s an example of how a small business with a good product loses business because staff problems. We’ve since started exploring other swiss water process decaf options on Amazon – for example Kicking Horse and Wild Jo brands have the advantage of being organic(and swiss water process) without having to deal with an unfriendly employee.

Totally unexpected place! Great coffee choices! Found a nice quiet meet and greet for clients here in Sequim! Very cozy! It was busy, but we could still hear each other with out feeling like we had to speak loudly.

Came here because of the interweb reviews. Wanted to try a new place and was looking for an appealing breakfast sandwich. I was happy with the Americano. The cherry coffeecake was delicious. And the feta spinach breakfast burrito was SOMUCHMORE than I anticipated. It was two filling savory meals. My order was to go. Seems a comfortable place to sit. My gut is that it may be a quieter alternative to Hurricane Coffee around the corner. I noticed they offer some interesting coffee blends for those looking to buy beans. And their coffee cards are beautiful. The devil’s in the details.

Rainshadow has the best coffee– period! Nick and Don really know coffee and are happy to teach the«lay» person. We buy the two pound bags of beans to take home and grind for fresh brews. The atmosphere is pleasant and right now you can view the construction of the new city hall complex just across the street. I give this place a five star rating without hesitation.

Nice, flavorful, bold coffee. We picked up some coffee to take home and also got an iced coffee for a nice pick me up. The iced coffee is great, they have some special way they make it to keep it from getting watered down. They have several selections of coffee beans and the owner is very knowledgeable and helpful with picking which one you’ll like best. They were just starting to serve breakfast sandwiches when were there and they looked very good, so hopefully those are in full swing by now.

We have 5 children and decided to take a quick little family vacation to Sequim. Mom and Dad needed some caffeine to keep up with the kiddos, and when we asked our hotel about a good LOCAL coffee spot, this is what was recommended. We couldn’t have enjoyed it more ! We went in on a Saturday morning, and while the place is just as classy as other reviews state, it was also very comfortable with our gaggle of children. We’re very careful with our children to not allow them to be disruptive in adult environments, but we’re also accustomed to people having an unfriendly attitude towards seeing such a big family come into their space. Not the case here at all ! Don grabbed a basket of kids books and even got down on the floor to play with our two year old. This was while we chatted about coffee(he really knows his stuff !) and enjoyed our excellent drinks. The Saturday morning crowd consisted of locals and was very friendly as well. While I don’t know that they’d all enjoy having their morning coffee spot taken over by kids, I was so appreciative of finding a place where we could enjoy an excellent, sit-down cup of coffee without feeling like we needed to hurry out. I’m looking forward to visiting again whenever we are in town !

Nice little place for a great coffee in a nice little town. Lovely artwork and atmosphere. If you love dark roast, you’ll love this place.

My partner and I got here from reading a review stating that Rainshadow was«the only legit coffee roaster on the Peninsula» and, my partner being a coffee snob and all, I knew we had to check it out during a trip out here from Bellingham. First thing: Nick the barista is awesome. Friendly, helpful, and takes pride in making an excellent cup of coffee. My partner asked Nick to make him the best dark roast in the manner he felt was most fit, which ended up being the Dungeoness Dark made via hand pour. Definitely try it, it was excellent. I tend to stick to the traditional cappuccino and I have to say that Nick made one of the best caps I’ve ever had. Additionally, the carrot raisin sunflower seed muffin was delicious. Bottom line — if you’re a coffee person visiting the Peninsula, get yourself to Rainshadow Coffee!

Excellent coffee. Friendly service from Nick. Ask for a pour over coffee. Friday is coffee tasting day. They roast all the coffee in house.

I’d read the great reviews around Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Company and I was looking forward to my initial visit to this business. Today(Sunday, September 22, 2013) was a dark, gloomy and rainy day — a perfect excuse to drive from Port Angeles to Sequim(a 38-mile roundtrip from home) to indulge in — what promised to be — an exquisite cup of coffee. I was also looking for some quality reading time and, perhaps, a pick-up SCRABBLE game! I double-checked Rainshadow’s Facebook page, Saturday evening — 09÷21÷13; this is what was noted — Closed until tomorrow 8:00 am — 3:00 pm. I arrived for my «introductory» visit to Rainshadow Coffee Roasting shortly after noon — to find a sign on the door announcing NEWHOURS. . shorter hours it appears. . and CLOSED on SUNDAY! Needless to say, I was disappointed. In retrospect, I should have called first. . but the hours are listed on Unilocal,on Facebook and on the Rainshadow website. Unfortunately, the hours reflected — in all three locations — were not the hours posted on the door. *SIGH* I didn’t want the the drive to Sequim to be a total waste of time and gasoline. . Hurricaine Coffee Company is right around the corner. There I found a very comfortable chair and the opportunity to enjoy two cups of coffee and six chapters of my book. I’m going to cross-post this review to the website and to Rainshadow Coffee Roasting’s Facebook page(Urbanspoon’s page reflects the Sunday closure information — I failed to check Urbanspoon). Hopefully, it will encourage those who do not live in Sequim, to call and double-check operating hours before making the trip. One star was given due to the fact that website gives clear and concise directions to the business — that was a plus. Jo Dunn Port Angeles, WA

Cool place, good décor, real roasters. Only thing is, its another Charbucks influenced coffee bean burner. No roast other than too dark. But at least they are ruining fair trade beans.

Yes, A very cool place. Maybe a little too cool for Sequim. After my first experience I was very pleased, The espresso was spot on, I’m not sure which roast they gave me but it was a very smooth roast, no bitterness at all. The service was friendly and actually quit fast considering the quality of the final product. The general atmosphere is very hip and classy, in a way that you wouldn’t expect in a town like Sequim. I found it rather amusing to sit and watch the 65 year old plus Sequim retiree crowd hanging out listening to Bob Marly in a outdoorsy Bike themed place that looks like it was set up for the 20 somethings. Lots of places to sit and enjoy your beverage indoors or out. They also provide you with a wide array of reading material and board games so you can stick around a relax. Will be upgrading to 5 stars if my next few visits ad up to the same quality.

Whether you’re passing through, emerging from the wilderness or living in Sequim, Rainshadow is the place to stop for coffee. The owner and his son carefully roast coffee in the back while locals play Scrabble, bike tours stop for a break, and scruffy old men read the paper. The drip coffee is regularly changed and they will freshly brew any coffee in-stock. Read the coffee descriptions, the roaster is accurate and consistent. The hours are a little limited, but you can find the coffee at other shops and even buy beans at the local QFC. Posted hours as of Summer 2013: Mon-Sat 8am-4pm Sun 9am-3pm. One block back from the main strip(Washington street), right across from City Hall.

Don is very knowledgeable about coffee. This shop is THE place for go for truly the best cuppa in Sequim, roasted right here in small batches and brewed perfectly. We are fans of a smooth, dark roast and the Dungeness Dark is the coffee we drink. If you are over the syrups and frothy drive through joints, looking for a true coffee lovers’ coffee house, this is it!

I drink coffee religiously. It’s an obsession. The coffee I get RainShadow Coffee Roasting is the best I’ve had. I live in Seattle and it beats the best coffee I’ve been able to find in the city. Their roasts are amazing!
