Yes, the food is greasy, but we really enjoyed the brat sandwich. It’s not a sausage link; it’s a patty, which I’ve never had before and it was quite enjoyable. We visited from TX and MS, so this was very different than anything we’ve had before.

Definitely the best traditional breakfast in town! Eggs are always done perfect, hash browns are the perfect blend of crispy and soft and the bacon is not too chewy and not too crispy, it’s just right. Great steak sandwiches and burgers too. And all reasonably priced!!!

Best diner I’ve ever experienced. Seriously, I thought these American icons were lost to the mists of time. Adequate pkg, greasy-spoon ambience. Was seated promptly and warmly. Picked up on the ma-and-pa vibe right away – my fellow patrons seemed to be regulars. I sat at the bar next to a photo of a man sitting on a dead horse. THERE’S YOURFIVESTARSRIGHTFRIGGIN’ THERE, and I hadn’t even placed my order. Got a double cheese, my wife a patty. Both were grilled to perfection and served with sharp cheddar on fresh Sheboygan hard rolls(which, if you’re not from Sheboygan, are not hard at all, just thick). I washed down my burger with a Miller(the alternative was Bud), thanked the cook(my server’s mom, I think), and immediately began to look fwd to my next visit.

Ok its on my joint to do again list, first let say if you need a classy place stay away, This is a Ma/Pop place that is not pretentious and serves your food on a napkin! we were out checking on our marina slip and on the way home decided to stop in as on reviews it had great burgers so why not, location off beat and path, parking fine, service FAST! food GREAT! our burgers were if not as good as or better than Sallys butter burger MKE! fresh hard rolls, the kids enjoyed the cheesy fries, a owner stood each over the grill, food prep was fast and great! we see they have a fish fry will be back to try it out! all said for the price and service we will be back, OBTW they serve a limited breakfast too!

My family makes a pilgrimage here every time they come to Wisconsin from out of state. There is a reason for this. No frills, delicious food. They even make the trip to Miesfeld’s afterwards to pick up some steaks to make their own steak sandwiches at home. The staff has low turn over and the food is just good. Make sure to bring cash, they don’t take cards! You need to try out this Sheboygan area gem, either North or South locations.

Was in Sheboygan for the day and starving. After Unilocaling the city to find a good place to eat, finally made my way here. Wow was parking hideous. The only available spot to park was in what I guess you’d call the«back of the restaurant» and it’s directly off a major intersection, so when you back out you’re thrown right in traffic. I’d be surprised if there are a few accidents each year by this setup. Whatever right? Maybe I’m just nit-picking. Reviews raved about the burgers so I was excited. That was until I got to the door and it said,“no credit or debit cards accepted“ Seriously? It’s 2013. Get with the program. I turned around and left. First impressions are everything and this is one customer that will never be back.

Charcoal is one of my favorite all-time restaurants. Not flashy, and all dressed up. But just a perfect cooking of 2 staples of Sheboygan, brats and steak sandwiches. Always cooked to perfection on a hard roll, this place is great.

I went here on a recent weekend afternoon while on a northern weekend trip to the area. The outside is nondescript. The interior is diner-like with a counter and several tables. The service is friendly. The brats are heaven on a bun and not to be missed.

First off, Charcoal Inn North is the same as Charcoal Inn. Someone just forgot to add the«North». The address on Geele tells the tale. Charcoal Inn South(South 8th St.) is in the same family but are two separate businesses. Some folks say the food and menu is the same, others have a definite preference. The website gives you all the details. Now for the rating. Here’s the bottom line. The only places in Sheboygan were you get a bad hamburger are the fast food joints. Almost every place else, restaurants, bars, Fireman’s Picnics you name it use a Sheboygan Hard Roll, generally grilled on real charcoal(1st choice) but not always, sometimes a gas fired Chargrill(2nd choice) and sometimes just a griddle(3rd& last choice) but still good. Sheboygan made bratwurst(Not Johnsonville or Hillshire Farms) locally made(like Sheboygan Sausage Co.) and seasoned primarily with salt & pepper and never pre-cooked like you get at Miller Park in Milwaukee. Those things shouldn’t even be call bratwurst. Call ‘em «Ball Park Wurst» or something similar, but not bratwurst. I did part of my growing up in the Sheboygan area and on Saturday nights we’d go to the drive-in theater in Sheboygan and always stop at Schultz’s on Calumet Dr. Which is still there by the way, just not the original building. Sadly, Charcoal Inn South & North have surpassed them, at least for my preference but I still go there on occasion, usually when Charcoal Inn North & South are closed. One has to remember that restaurant choices are personal opinions and of course not everyone will agree. Check the website and check the menu prices. No $ 8 or $ 9 hamburgers here. You get a lotta bang for your buck and taste beyond compare

Hands down the finest cheeseburger in Sheboygan.(And yes, it’s better than Charcoal Inn South.) All things come together in this fantastic combination of a Sheboygan style hardroll, beef, REAL cheddar cheese and butter. No it’s not health food. It’s not trying to be. But it’s the closest thing to the Big«O» your mouth will ever experience. Make sure to try the malts, also.
