Steve Key’s Songwriter at Play series has been a real gift to the California Central Coast for years now. Steve provides access to a sweet variety of venues, bringing in singer-​songwriters, locals and world-​class touring acts. Every production I’ve attended has been smooth and professional. Consistently great sound. Joyful variety. I’ve been both audience and player at some of their showcases, and I can tell that the tippy top quality of this operation is no accident. The guy behind it all, Steve Key, commands a trove of experience and his own considerable talent as singer songwriter and recording artist. He is obviously tireless, as putting so many shows together must be an enormous task. I hope Songwriters at Play keeps rocking and rolling for a lot more years. It’s a shame Unilocal only allows five stars.

Songwriters at Play is a wonderful series that allows multiple musicians to share their art in friendly places around the Central Coast. You’re sure to find someone whose music moves you. Making music or listening, Songwriters at Play is a great option. Check them out!

Songwriters at Play is a great way to enjoy live music on the Central Coast — we’ve heard so many wonderful acts over the years that we would never have found on our own. I love the emphasis on original music; it’s so much fun to hear people perform songs they’ve written. The venues are all very nice, we’ve tried them all, I think. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon or evening.

Live music on the Central Coast would be non-​existent if not for Steve Key and Songwriters at Play. Because of Steve, we have a vibrant wine country music scene with the usual suspects, as well as touring musicians. If you can’t get out to make a show, be sure and catch his online radio broadcast on his website.

I love Songwriters At Play! Whether I’m making music or listening to it, I know Steve will pull in the talent. The format keeps things interesting, with a new act every ½ hour or so. His venues are go-​to spots for touring & local musicians alike. Thank you Steve!

Steve Keyes knows how to round up talent for wonderful concerts around our county. Over the Years I have attended concerts promoted by Steve in coffee shops, restaurants, wineries, tasting rooms and more. He is terrific and the shows are always wonderful. He brings in main liners and gives unknowns a place to try our their new work and play some old work. The tribute nights are really nice when songs are all from a worthy artist and played by many. What fun and so entertaining. Thank you Steve for all you bring to the entertainment scene in San Luis Obsipo County.
