Spyglass has one of the best views of the Pacific in Shell Beach and offers a decent amount of good breakfast and lunch options. If you want to dine outside and breathe the fresh salty ocean air(negative ions that are good for your body!), there is a patio with many tables where you are basically less than a hundred feet away from the ocean. For breakfast the omelettes are pretty good. The club sandwiches at lunch are my usual choice– chicken or turkey and they come layered in avocado, lettuce, tomato and three to four slices of bread which makes it impossible to eat at once. There is usually a substantial accompaniment of potatoes or fries– and at lunch I upgrade to garlic fries which are delicious. It’s best to come here on a sunny day and bask in vitamin D– they also provide umbrellas if you need shade. But it’s hard to object to simple American comfort fare and a great view of the ocean!

The service is good and I have never had any complaints. I come here to enjoy a view you will get nowhere else for the price. You will be hard pressed to find a casual place where you can enjoy a drink and food overlooking one of the prettiest coastlines on earth. This is one of the best kept secrets on the Central Coast. Give it a shot!

We stayed at the hotel and went here for dinner and breakfast. The food was good and the service was friendly. When we visit Pismo again, we will definitely eat here.

Best way to break the drive from Southern to Northern California. It’s all of these — Serene relaxing patio with majestic view — Attentive wait staff that don’t rush you and make you feel welcome — Delicious food — Good glass of wine and beer This is a review from October that was not finished.

In need of an update and a menu that offers fresh and healthy options. The drinks and food were a little disappointing, but the service was thoughtful and authentic. The layout also allows some cold breezes to waft through and the louder tables in the room to take over the evening’s ambiance. It’s pretty old school. Nice views if you can catch a sunset.

Amazing view and delicious food. I went when it was raining so I didn’t not get to sit outside and the patio area was just so magical. You can see the beach from the inside seating area as well. Very warm and calm place with good customer service. We ordered the fried calamari for appetizer and it was cooked perfectly, not too soft and not too chewy. The calamari steak was also very well done and came with a delicious sauce. If you are a garlic fan order the chicken marsala with garlic mashed potatoes, comes in a very creamy garlic sauce. Very unique taste.

Let me just say someone should teach the cook how do you make«toast». That’s all you need to know about breakfast… beyond disappointing for the price!

This is an update to a bad review I did a year ago at our last family reunion. I was just informed we did NOT have reservations and the nearly 20 of us descended upon the staff without fair warning. That said, they did a yeoman’s job of serving that many hungry people. Just righting a wrong.

Disappointed with the food. Wait staff was very nice. The view was excellent. The sandwich I ordered was mainly bread, couldn’t find the grilled chicken in the sandwich. Sad. 22Dollars later. Disappointed. As my picture shows, I ordered the Grilled Chicken Avocado Club on Rosemary bread. I mentioned to the waiter the ridiculous amount of bread on the sandwich and he said he orders his club, with no middle bread. Even if there had been less bread, the paper thin chicken would have been hard to find.

After I spent my first night of vacation at the nearby«Casa Chula» beach house, my sister and her husband suggested we have breakfast at the Spyglass Inn which was just a short drive from where we were staying. They had eaten here before and thought it would be a nice place to start our morning off. As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted and guided to the outdoor patio area. When I sat down at our table, the beautiful ocean view was the first thing that attracted my attention. I knew that I was going to enjoy my experience here! Our waitress Alexa, was very nice as she took our orders. The menu has a great selection of dishes to choose from and made it hard to decide. But eventually we narrowed things down to some delicious choices! I had the Vegetarian Benedict with a Mimosa while my sister had a California Omelette with crab and a Bloody Mary. The food was perfectly cooked and not greasy! This is especially important to my sister who has sensitive digestive issues. I don’t remember what my brother-in-law ate but he enjoyed his meal also, which was obvious after he quickly devoured everything from his plate! This was probably one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in some time! We received good service, delicious food at acceptable prices, and an amazing view! With all the great things Spyglass has to offer, how can I possibly give this place less than 5 stars?

We were looking for a restaurant to take our daughter to. She wanted seafood with a ocean view. We had a party of 12 and we chose this place. We had a spectacular view of the ocean as we were seated outside the back. It was windy and cool but the heating lamps did the job of keeping us warm. Again, the view was top notch and probably couldn’t have been better. As for the food, everyone who ordered the clam chowder were very happy with it. I ordered the Seafood combo(all deep fried) which included garlic fries(very tasty) 2 pieces of fish, clam, calamari, and shrimp. I asked if whether their seafood was fresh or previously frozen and the waiter said it was all fresh. I do question that… The clams were over cooked, the fish was… Interesting… The shrimp was over cooked but was tasty, and the calamari was decent at best. The service was very friendly and attentive as they served. For us, the food was average and maybe even below average but the view was 5 star for sure! So I give it 3 star for now. Perhaps, there are dishes that may be excellent but what I ordered did not compliment the food experience. I am willing to give this place another chance just because of the view and the price point is very average. Check it out and ask for a ocean view seat.

Went for a second time… Loved everything! The seared ahi, spinach quesadillas, and lettuce wraps are AWESOME! Didn’t expect all three of those things to be so delicious! Definitely a way better experience than last time… Like I suspected, you have to order the right thing at Spyglass Inn restaurant. The only thing is, the food comes out pretty slowly, but it’s not a deal breaker.

The manager reached out after reading my review — I appreciate that level of customer service and would be tempted to go back knowing that they really do care.

After a long day on the road mostly in traffic and a snafu with our hotel. We arrive hungry at The Spyglass Restaurant. We got here around 3pm and the restaurant was mostly empty. However we were asked to wait 10 to 15 min for another server to start Okay. No problem. So we get seated outside of course, it would be nice to watch the sun go down. However on our way out the door the mat I step of slides and of course I think I’m going down. But alas I preserve a manage to stay upright. The server behind me applauds my ability because he just knew I was going down. Really? I mention my near death experience(dramatic much? Yes I can be). To which I’m told a few people have slipped they will remove the mat. Spoiler alert: they didn’t – yes I slipped a second time. Yay I stayed on my feet. No I didn’t go for that third times s charm madness. On to the server – she did not look like she wanted to be there at all. I got the distinct impression that there were many places she would rather be. She was competent and answered all questions we asked. Never smiled, and my husband remarked on it as well. Now it was Presidents’ Day, and she could have been salty for not getting the day off? I don’t know, and I don’t fault her she only needed to take my order and bring the food. All that extra chit chat is just that. And not always necessary. The food. We ordered an lettuce wrap appetizer, the Oceanfront 5 drinks. I had the blackened Salmon and he had the NY steak. Both came with mash potatoes and veggies. Everything was cold. With the exception of his steak That came to the table hot. My salmon was not blackened The chicken in the lettuce wraps was blackened more than my salmon. It was seasoned to perfection so there’s that. We were also seated in a great place to view the sun set. Complaints: two waiters came out to complain/split up the work that needed to be done. Those two guys could have saved that conversation for when patrons of the establishment are not present and eating. I don’t want to hear about taking out the trash and mopping the floors and washing dishes while I’m eating. No thanks. Especially when you are cleaning the table in front of me and thus you know I’m there. That’s just rude.

Our waiter Josh J was awesome he hit every nail on the head. Food is so delicious and at a great price. We had avacado egg rolls and coconut shrimp. Both I would order again very tasty. My main entrée was the chicken parmigiano that was mouth watering to the eyes and even better in my mouth. Can’t wait to eat my free cheesecake that I got from checking in. Thanks Spyglass and Unilocal

This is one of the best restaurant I’ve been to in forever. My waiter Joshua was so nice. He made some amazing hot chocolates for my kids, he even drew a heart with chocolate syrup. Made sure kids were happy and brought extra fruit. The garlic fries were delicious. When we walked in they were so welcoming and accommodating. We came for some basic grub: garlic fries, marguerite pizza, grilled cheese and beer. All was good!
