The Cliffs Resort

Spoke to reservations on two occasion and both representatives brushed me off. They do not go the extra mile for customers. Have to jump through hoops to get their «best rate guarantee». Was not ‘oh we don’t price match Groupon’ when I pointed out that was not shown in there site and was misleading from a customer point of view, i was told «oh, i’ll do my best to ensure the website is fixed’.

Imagine a lovely hotel on the Pacific Ocean. Picture lovely sunsets, and an inviting pool and nice amenities. Now add in herds of bro’s sporting tats aplenty. Throw in a bunch of grown steroid über bro dudes wrestling at the end of the pool, with scared kids at the other end. Or another fledgling 16 year old micro-​bro driving a jacked up F150 with various secret bro insignia on it, trying to muscle you out of the way in the parking lot. Or another older agitated tatted bro verbally abusing a waiter for not making his drink right, with a genuine fight situation about to ensure, he later departed the hotel in his leased Cadillac Escalade.
Add in a hotel room next door with an overfilled balcony with robust swearing and drinking, a full on drunken party no less, five crammed on the balcony with an overweight over-​tongued elderly kissing situation (which our room had a prime view of from the corner adjacent balcony).
So then we moved the room, as I kind of didn’t want to sit on my balcony and watch that. The next room, we have literally a frat part move next door. So bad was the night — endless slamming doors, one guy shouting «the boys are back in town at 3AM», that my 8 year old was doing impersonations the next day «Let’s partay!!!, stomp, stomp, stomp» was her refrain for the next day. Literally no sleep the whole night, even after calling front desk and begging them to make it stop.
The hotel was nice enough to comp a night for that horror, but to be honest, getting $ 200 back is cold comfort for being non functional next day on vacation. I’ve been to the hotel about 5 – 6 times before over the last ten years, and have noticed a downtrend in both the food and the clientele over the years — it used to be great :-(
To round up, if you’re a bro’, love tat-​watching, or tat chicks with fake boobs, or are conducting a field study of bro’s in their native habitat then you’ll love the cliffs, that really does attract them like bees to a honeypot. I guess the Cliffs, has decided who they want at the hotel, and it’s not anyone that doesn’t want to «Partayyyy!» We walked over to Dolphin Bay next door, and it seemed a lot more pleasant and serene, will be staying there next time.
Oh and the wifi doesn’t work, just like previous reviews say.

Poor customer service, no wifi access. Booked my room at hotels tonight, am giving a room on the ground floor next to the public trail to the beach, anyone can get in my room. Already voiced my concerns to the front desk regarding safety issues and to move me to a higher floor because I need to leave my windows open for fresh air. Unfortunately Shelby at the front desk couldn’t offer a better alternative other asking me to pay $ 50 extra to a pool view with a musty odor and screaming kids. I chose to stay and breathe fresh air but risk a stranger climbing into my room, I don’t exactly feel safe; Unfortunately, she couldn’t offer a better alternative. I wish I had a different experience with the rooms because the ocean views are really gorgeous. Perhaps book an ocean view and not through hotel tonight and check in early or not get Shelby as your check in but someone who actually cares about customer service. My service was disappointing and I will not be back. It’s too bad because I would have tried their restaurants, bars and spa. After this disappointing experience I would rather spend my money elsewhere.

We had a beautiful Memorial Day weekend at The Cliffs Resort & Marisol, thanks especially to the Maitre d’ David Kline. Wonderful accommodations, stunning views, and David goes out of his way to make all the guests feel special. We’ve stayed at the Cliffs before and we will definitely be back in the future!

Very nice experience. Heated pool to 80 degree was super. There was a little concert going on which was fun to watch but a little bit of nuisance trying to relax.
Staff was nice and very helpful.

Stayed 2 nights. We really enjoyed the cliffs. Parking was easy with complimentary valet

Checked in last night. We have stayed here several times.
First night worse stay ever. About 11 pm, slamming doors, people yelling, noise continued for about an hour. Maybe because we are on second floor, but very disturbing since really never had that problem before?
Ok, another night tonite, so will let you know.
We love staying because usually pretty quiet, and suppose to have adult only hot tub, not true, they don’t enforce it.
Love having restaurant and bar on premises, but need a quiet room at night.

Great location! Breakfast is yummy with omelette bar and fresh waffles. Very noisy in the morning though as the cleaning staff has no conscious on being quiet. Beds are comfy and a great walking path to the beach.

Rooms are not mind blowing. They do have a fireplace in the room. And free valet. And close to the beach. Needs a renovation. Old rooms

Not sure what the hype is about this place.
Recommend not staying on the second floor. Unfortunately our room was close to the vending machine and elevator. Walls seem thin to me. I could hear people talking as if they were in my room. I could not sleep. I could also hear water running and humming constantly as if someone were running the sink in my room.
Room is ok, some shoddy repair work, but clean. I’ve stayed in nicer for less $$$. No microwave either! Gas fireplace was very nice.
I was quite irritated that I shared I was staying on social media and got a email voucher for two free drinks. Went to the bar to redeem. Bar tender (nice guy) said it was redeemable at the check in desk and they would scan it (check in girl said just show my email at the bar, before hand.). Went back to the front desk and she sarcastically said ‘yeah I’ll scan it’ and gave a shitty look. Then left the counter to get help. She took so long I said forget it and went to just buy my own drinks. The bartenders were very nice to ask how it went and when I explained they gave us the two drinks for free. I’m pretty sure hotel staff should be aware of current promotions! I don’t appreciate being treated as if I’m sub par to the girl working a hotel counter because I don’t know she doesn’t have a scanner for their promotions!
There was an event going on that IMO seriously limited the area to walk around and view the ocean. We kept being asked for a wrist band by people working the event as we tried just to walk around the area and pool. We were not part of the event nor did we want to be. If I would of known this in time I would of canceled reservations. I didn’t want to valet but parking was a nightmare. Valet took quite awhile to get our car when we left for dinner.
The views are very nice. The bar and restaurant are nice as well. I wouldn’t stay at the hotel again, feel as if I paid a lot and it really wasn’t worth it.

Nice place to stay in Pismo. I was really impressed with their room décor and the ambiance of the hotel overall. It’s such beautiful grounds! My only critiques would be that its very expensive for what it is and that there was construction outside of our window, ruining the view the whole time. If we’re going to stay on the beach, maybe don’t charge $ 300 a night to look at construction? Just a thought.

Checked in on a Sunday afternoon. Our room was ready 2 hours before check in. There was chocolate chip cookies & sangria during check in which was nice. The room is ok; spacious & clean. The bathroom is nice but a bit outdated; the vent wasn’t working. The refrigerator wasn’t working either but in under 10 minutes it had been replaced. There’s a Keurig machine with a couple of coffee kcups a day. No microwave. The pool is small but clean. The jacuzzi ruined my bathing suit as well as my daughter’s. They were both blue and faded to a pink shade. Too much chlorine maybe? We were in there for a couple hours. It was very relaxing & we we’re having drinks so the time went by quickly. There are towels available. The fire pit is nice. There were several broken chairs that should really be replaced. The view around the property is spectacular. It’s so beautiful there. We walked down to the tide pools using the beach access stairs on the side of the property. The restaurant next door, Marisol, is affiliated with the resort & offers free coffee in the morning for guests. You can also charge food & drinks to your room. The gym is small but the equipment is up to date. They have towels & water available for your workout. The hotel lobby with the large fireplace was relaxing. We ordered coffee from next door & hung out there one evening. They have board games & books. They have fruit & muffins in the morning on the table outside the shop. I don’t believe they announce this anywhere & I’m not sure what hours they make it available but I noticed one day they had fruit & when we were checking out at 11:30 we had fruit & muffins. The staff was nice & professional throughout. Overall it was an enjoyable stay

We after spending some long but fun days at the Happiest Place on Earth, we decided we needed to regroup and reenergize. So on out drive back home to SF we decided Pismo beach would be the right spot. We didn’t plan out where we would stay but regularly use the Hotels Tonight app and it brought us here. We got a deal that we couldn’t refuse so we booked it.
Once we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly doorman named Benjamin. Although he wasn’t in a rush he was very patient with our slow-​moving unloading. He walked is to our room and gave us some quick directions to the beach and pool from our room.
Our room was on the second floor and close to the elevator, but not noisy at all. We had a clean, comfortable room with slight views of the bluffs and ocean. Our room had two queen beds, perfect for our family of 4. There was a good sized mini fridge and a kuerg coffee machine.
Once we got settled we headed down to the tide-​pools. What a view! This hotel is nestled off a bluff with beach access. We walked down a path and some stairs straight to the beach.
I’ve been to many of our coastal beaches but never one with a beach that has more shells than sand. It’s truly magnificent. I wanted to bottle it up and bring it home. We walked out on the rocks and saw so many gorgeous sea creatures. As we watched the tide come in, more amazing shells were washed a shore. Again truly beautiful.
After dinner, we headed to the heated pool and had some marshmallows over the fire pit. It was the perfect end to our first night of recharging.

In a word… fabulous. We stayed in room 455 and had a gorgeous room with marble and modern coastal aesthetic. And a spectacular view. The room was well laid out with an emphasis on the common area but leaving an open intimacy to the bathrooms with thoughtfully designed barriers and shutters to close off potentially private spaces. Both the room and view rival any hotel I have ever visited.
The view from our room allowed us to see the dramatic cliffs of Shell beach and look out to the other nearby sandy beach areas of Pismo as well. When you pay for an ocean view, you want to be able to experience the vastness of the ocean – you want to hear and feel it. And all of the rooms on the back of the hotel had the same stunning view. We just sat on the balcony and marveled at the beauty of the landscape. I know the Central Coast well and had never witnessed this particular perspective.
If you are looking for a special space that embodies the Central Coast, The Cliffs is it. It is light and airy and we were greeted with smiles and warmth. That is always welcome after a long drive. The day we arrived, David (the manager) was serving cheese and wine in the entry. He was affable and really set the tone for a lovely stay.
I did not realize the hotel was dog friendly, but now that I know, I may choose to bring my pets on the next visit.
The only marks against the place are:
1. The inconsistency in the service: As we were coming in, I overheard a snafu with a guest and the valet attendant – apparently there was some trouble locating his car. So why was I surprised when there was a similar snafu after we’d checked out and were ready to leave? The attendant had trouble finding our car as well. And then parked it in such a way that I had to struggle mightily to get out.
2. The mattress: I’m hoping it was just our room but the soft «lumpiness» made for a difficult night’s sleep.
OVERALL: The Cliffs got so much right that we cannot wait to visit again and extend our stay. You could not keep me away from The Cliffs on my next visit.

This place is still incredible after all these years. The location is beautiful, the food is delicious, and the service was outstanding (especially our bartender Jim at Marisol).

The view was worth the price. Oh, and the room was nice as well. :)
We only stayed for a night, but the staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was nice, definitely as pictured. The bathroom was up to date, small, but gave the effect of elegance. The bed was high, but it made me feel like a queen when I climbed upon it. Now the view, the view was amazing. The sliding glass door allowed for us to sleep to the sound of the ocean. Relaxation to say the least. It is definitely pricey, so if you don’t mind the splurge, go for it!

I recently stayed here for a Christian Women’s Retreat. I stayed 3 days and 2 nights. I was super excited to stay here because I used to live in the area and didn’t need a hotel because I had my home. Now that I don’t live in the area, it was a special treat to try out a hotel. I didn’t have a choice on where I was staying because it was an organized event, but I was definitely excited The Cliffs was where I was staying for the weekend.
I’m so torn about this review. Although the staff was very friendly and I was greeted so warmly, I’m disappointed. First off, the valet guys, AMAZING! Kind, quick, friendly, trustworthy. The warm welcome with apple, caramel thumbprint cookies, apple cider, and wine… FABULOUS! The cozy sitting area with a fireplace in the lobby… warm and relaxing! The wait staff during our retreat… very accommodating and amazing!
Let me start off by saying, the hotel was packed with women for our retreat, 4 women per room. I really felt bad for other guests. It was extremely loud. The hustle and bustle of all our church services, the car valet, people walking through hallways, slamming of doors. I literally didn’t sleep all weekend! I thought a retreat meant I’d be relaxing and resting. Boy was I wrong! It didn’t help that my room was right by the lobby and elevator. So, we got the noise of that, but we were also closest to the front of the hotel where in all hours of the night and wee hours of the morning, people were coming in and out of their cars. They were slamming doors and trunks. It was just not a great experience. I truly wish I had a different experience to share!

Stayed at The Cliffs Hotel overnight for a pre-​Christmas getaway before spending a few days at my bro’s house in nearby SLO — it was excellent.
Room 235 was perfect — roomy, tastefully decorated, quiet and comfortable (not sure why others complained about «paper-​thin» walls — I didn’t hear a soul.)
I loved having a sliding door to the balcony — nice to get air at night (even in winter) and loved the in-​room seating area for a pre-​dinner champagne happy hour.
After dinner, we returned to the hotel and headed to the hot tub & pool — fun, but a bit crowded (expected during holiday travel period.)
Next morning strolled the grounds — beautiful!
Of note, the in-​room coffee tastes terrible with tap water (strange water taste). The adjacent restaurant has coffee set up for hotel guests — a small effort to go get it, but worth it.
Friendly staff, quality hotel.
In all, The Cliffs is quite nice — can’t wait to return for another overnight stay.
