The fries
Very small and easy to overlook. However, the food is on point. Fresh, house made food keeps me coming back regularly. My go-​to is either the burger or the turkey burger.
If you can get a seat it’s a fun time. The board games are a great addition.
Decent beer selection.
Nice outdoor patio too.

Great little spot in Shelton for happy hour drinks. Anything on the menu that is less than $ 6 is BOGO. Also, each person can get a basket of fries with a choice of sauce (I had the peppercorn sauce which was delicious).
The service was amazing — We sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive, making sure that our drinks were filled at all times and that we were getting the best bang for our buck at the happy hour (which ends at 6 pm).
Cool thing about this place is that they even have happy hour on the weekends! Huge plus since most bars only serve happy hour specials during the week.
The ambiance is great — The bar is small, funky and chic. Although we didn’t eat a full dinner here, we saw couple next to us splitting a burger and it looked amazing. We will have to come with a bigger appetite next time.

We were in the mood for burgers. Came across this joint and it sounded really good based on other Unilocalers reviews.
I wouldn’t call them the best but I wouldn’t call them the worst either. Just average. There was more Texas toast then burger which was okay but the burger was just ok.
The amount of fries that they offer. Small or large. Four or eight potatoes. A ton for French fries and a few different options for dipping sauces make it that much better. Fries get a four out of five. stars.
Beer selection is fairly decent for a small joint and impressive.
Would help if the bartender (female) acted as if she liked her job and put a smile on her face. The other bartender (male) greeted each and every customer and had great customer interaction.
Cool music as well.
I’ll probably be back.

Best bar around! Amazing food, great drink selection, perfect atmosphere. Highly recommend their burgers with local beef, also the tacos are delicious! Great little patio for outdoor drinks and dining as well.

This is arguably the best food I’ve had in Connecticut. Their frites put Rudy’s in New Haven to shame. Their soups are PHENOMENAL (I’ve had the tomato bisque with lump crab meat, and the baked potato chowder). The tacos are solid (I’m partial to the chicken), and their thanksgiving turkey burger special with cranberry mayo was also very good. The portions are generous, and the prices are modest (and they include tax). I wish I was in this area more often. I would eat here once a week.
I almost forgot, the beer selection (while not extremely expansive) has very good quality!

Love it here. It was a really relaxing atmosphere. The free fries were delicious and the sauces were tasty too! My turkey burger was the best turkey burger I’ve ever had.

The food is amazing, please do get the frites and the sliders. It goes well with the amazing beer on tap. The service is even better.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for awhile now but was always skeptical because it’s more bar than restaurant and really how good is bar food?! Well OMG this place has delicious food! It is not even close to your typical bar food, this place has fresh homemade food, nothing prepackaged and frozen. It’s the next morning and I can’t stop thinking about how good this place is. Not only do I give it 5 stars I have to say this may be the best food I have ever had in Shelton! They should forget the bar and turn this place into a full restaurant? The bartender was our waitress and even with a full bar crowd she was attentive and wonderful. Couldn’t ask for better service! Now the menu is small and a bit limited but remember this is more a bar than restaurant. Here’s what we had
French Fries with different dipping sauces– best damn FF I ever ate in my life!
Tacos, black bean, beef and a veggie– authentic like the ones at food trucks on long wharf
Sliders– freshest tasting beef ever– yes better than Plan B and the other big one
Hot box– whiskey with warm apple cider from local cider mill!
Really if you are a foodie and you’ve never tried this place you must go here and try it!
To the owner if you ever read this. My biggest complaint about living in Shelton is it’s hard to find good food! You have the best food I’ve ever eaten in this town. I see you do an awesome bar business but wish you would turn place into full restaurant expand your menu and open for lunch. I promise I would come every day!

I only have the highest praises for Bar 140. Food was incredible. All fresh ingredients… I highly recommend the fries with dipping sauces and tacos. The décor/​atmosphere was super trendy and chill. Music not too loud. Beautiful patio over looking a creek in the back. Service was great! Everyone was so friendly and informative. The food and drinks we ordered came out in a timely manner; no long wait. We meet the owners who obviously take a lot of pride in their place. Bathrooms were clean and smelled nice! I can’t wait to go back! Wish I had a place like this closer to home!

I love this bar, me and my boyfriend have made this place our regular go to. I had bad service from a bartender once, she was incredibly rude, but I haven’t seen her since. Everyone has been so friendly, they have great selection of beer, staff is on point :) I love that they have jenga and connect 4 type of games for customers to play. The environment is calm. An artsy/​hipster kinda crowd. Love it!

In the past I visited a number of bars and restaurants on Center Street, always vowing to stop in and check out Bar 140. WHAT TOOK ME SO LONG !! A nice beer selection on tap, great service behind the bar, and a comfy atmosphere. Menu is limited but everything I had was great. Fries and dipping sauces were excellent, and the taco’s were filled with fresh ingredients. Can’t wait to get back here.

Great neighborhood bar with a great selection od micro brews. They have a rotating list of local brews and a decent selection of popular and specialty liquors. Good bar for with awesome chicken tacos and a choice of sauces.

Best little bar in the area. Excellent rotating beers on tap. Just enough so the beer is always fresh. And, they know how to pour and what kind of glass to pour it into. Joe and Tiff are great hosts. Food menu is small, but all are winners. Specials weekly never miss. Potatoe and bacon soup is as good as it sounds. They need to bring back the escargots in gorgonzola suace. Best wayto eat snails! Definitely not a typical Valley vibe. No sports on TV, music not blasting loud. You might actually have to talk to your freinds and neighbors.

This bar is just wonderful all around. There’s a couple other places on Center Street, but they have all gone downhill over the last few months. Bar 140 however has gone from strength to strength in every aspect! Firstly, the staff is wonderful. Every single person we’ve met behind the bar has been so great. The beer list is constantly changing showcasing some of CT/VT/NY’s finest brews! Half the fun of going is the anticipation of what might be on tap!
The food menu is great too. There are a lot of great unique items on the menu that you can’t find anywhere else. There’s daily specials on food items and items that are only sold on certain days of the week! There’s also a great dessert cupcake menu with cupcakes delivered by a local bakery. They are great too!
The vibe is great. The drinks are great. The staff is great. The good is great.
Definitely check this place out!

We had a great time at Bar 140. They have a short menu of great bar bites. We were happily surprised tonight with their escargot special! They don’t have a huge selection of beers on tap, but their rotating selection of interesting microbrews has something you’ll love. To top it off they played some weezer off the blue album.
The star tonight were the fresh cut fries and homemade dipping sauces. The only thing that could make this better is poutine… wonder if that ever ends up as a special?

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Bar 140 yet based on the number of times I have been here!
We moved to Shelton a little over a year ago and needed to find a new place to enjoy our weekend nights. Bar 140 is perfectly located in downtown Shelton and, luckily for us, walkable from our place. I LOVE this bar — the vibe is perfect. Low-​key with excellent choices in craft beer and creative cocktails. The bartenders are top notch — always friendly and helpful.
We’ve eaten here two or three times — perfect bar food menu. Their fries are SO delicious and great while drinking a cold Gandhi-​Bot or Fuzzy Baby Ducks (YUM!). I usually opts for their fish tacos and my husband gets a burger of some sort. On top of the great drink selection and yummy food, they often have live music that makes for an even better atmosphere.
