Been coming here for 8 years, mostly for breakfast. Have tried all the diners within a 10 mile radius and Sassafras stands alone at the top. The bacon is crisp, homefries great and the eggs are always cooked to perfection. More than I can say for most of the other local places. I almost wish that the Huntington Burger wasn’t so damned good because I end up ordering it every time I go there for lunch/dinner, and therefore don’t know what else I’m missing. Nothing fancy or gourmet — just food done right. I know what to expect every time I go there and I get it.

We only had take-out that was brought to a family barbecue. They brought the homemade potato salad, coleslaw and bread pudding. It was absolutely stupendous. You could taste everything was homemade and with lots of love. I’m so surprised to read some of these other reviews, maybe not as good when you go there? All I know is that we are going to be stopping by the next time it we’re in Connecticut.

Before the fire The«sas» was a great little place, filled with locals and cheap eats. My first visit today since they’ve reopened. Prices are high, food was salty, coffee was gross and service was just ok. They are trying to be something they are not. I will give it one more try for breakfast but never again for lunch. The center deli next door has much better sandwiches, sorry sas.

Not overly busy @ lunch on Monday. Maybe a good time to make a stop? Service: I’d stopped in for lunch to take to go, on a whim, I was very hungry, & couldn’t wait until I got home… so I ordered a wrap to go. I placed my order, waited a little bit, longer than I’d expected, considering they weren’t busy, and what I ordered was a cold sandwich. Anyway. I watched the woman put my order in a to go bag, she dropped my coleslaw on the floor, completely accidental,(that was packaged in those small flimsy plastic container), but her reaction took me back… when she’d seen that I’d been watching her, she took the coleslaw(which didn’t open when it hit the floor… I’ll give her that) and placed it in the bag, but then took it out when she’d noticed I’d been watching her every move. I said, that’s ok, you can skip the coleslaw. Food & Cost: I know they’re getting back on their feet… massive $$$ loss from previous fire damage… but really… I had a turkey wrap sandwich w/potato chip…$ 10??? I don’t want to pay for their re-set up costs… just eat lunch! And the portions were tiny, considering the size. I don’t see myself coming back here again. The food was something a kid could throw together after coming off a school bus… nothing great nor special…& definitely NOT special nor great for the price I paid! I feel bad for their prior fire issue… but not bad enough to go back anytime soon! Overall, if you want lunch maybe go Mondays… since it’s not busy. But eat before you go, since the portions are small especially in comparison to the prices you’ll pay! ;)

Great breakfast at this place… couldn’t wait till they reopened. The same crew has been there since I’ve been going there for over 9 years. The rolls are fresher than fresh, love the bacon(they are not salt sticks) and especially the home fries(nicely browned and not overly spiced… I actually like tasting potato). The food is consistently good. Mandy K mentioned the home fries were not so good and recommended the Plaza Diner. If you like mashed slop(home fries), stale rolls and dirty seats, you will be very happy with the Plaza.

So disappointed. Coffee was gross, bacon was overcooked, Mickey Mouse pancakes looked nothing like Mickey Mouse(although kids still enjoyed them). I had the spinach and feta omelet with tomato, which was delicious. Unfortunately, the home fries were not so good. Oh, and the OJ is cheap and clearly from concentrate. I don’t know– at $ 40 for 2 adults and 2 kids, I won’t be going back anytime soon. If you’re looking for a diner in town, try Plaza Diner down on Bridgeport Ave.

Really yummy. Only ever been for breakfast. Delicious omelets. Try the spinach & feta. This is a great, laid-back diner. Nothing fancy, but always good.
