The Toy Shop

Well. So I took my 1995 Camry with 180,000 miles on it in to the Toy Shop yesterday to diagnose why she was not accelerating properly. Paul took me for a test ride where of course, the problem would not reveal itself for him. After explaining what happens in detail to him though, he felt he knew the likely culprit. Well I got the car back today and it runs like a champ! Problem solved. Runs like a rocket. Smooth as glass. I am very impressed! The work was done quickly, and for a very reasonable and fair price compared to the prices going around that I had heard of for this problem. Everyone in the office was pleasant and attentive and the dog greeting was a bonus. I will be happy to bring my vehicle back here again for any and all needs in the future!

After being told by Big O tire that my Honda CRV needed new shocks and struts costing over $ 1000 and they even wanted to replace the axle… I called around and got the Toy Shop. I was informed that it is highly unusual that my car needed new shocks and struts and that I might have been told that just because of the high mileage. The Toy shop made a minor repair saving me almost a thousand dollars. Thank you Toy Shop for your honesty and integrity!

I love this place. Have used them several times for a few different vehicles over the years. Always great work, great customer service and very fair pricing. Super friendly and the MOST HONEST auto repair place I have ever dealt with.

We’ve been taking our Toyota and Lexus vehicles to the Toy Shop for over 4 years. They have always been honest, fair and friendly.
Today I took my car in for a brake inspection and waited. It was around 4 PM and many people were picking up their cars. Time and time again I heard the office staff explain why a customer DID NOT need a part or service rather than try to sell them on another part or service. It’s refreshing to see a business be truthful and actually build a relationship with their customers. My car did not need brakes but it did need a turn signal light. Cost me $ 6.
This is one awesome local business who is doing it right!

Had a used engine installed for $ 3,800. After 6 months it was using a quart of oil a week. After a long arduous process, they installed a second engine. After 1 month the water pump was leaking. They wanted to charge us $ 350 to replace it, I fought with them and out of the goodness of their hearts they replaced it. Then the exhaust gasket and the head gasket went bad after 3 months. They wanted over $ 2,000 to replace these. So if you want bad service, poor workmanship, bad attitudes, and inferior parts the Toy Shop is the place to go because that is what you will get. I will never go back and anyone reading this should never do business there. They used to be a good shop, not any more.

I have never dealt with a more honest business. My most recent visit has been a fine example of my experience here. I called at opening and they took me as soon as they could. Bill looked at my car himself and suggested the best plan for fixing the problems, giving me the possible causes and advice for the best way to continue. I really value the fact that they help you make informed decisions about your car.

Have taken two Toyotas (Prius and Civic) and one Lexus (RX300) here for many years now and always found them to be reputable, honest and less expensive than other places. I really trust this family run business, and they do great work.

Businesses can live or die as a result of their customer facing personnel. But, in some cases, a business can survive and actually thrive in spite of their personnel. For the Toy Shop, the latter is the case.
Bottom line, this shop does excellent and honest work. They have a solid reputation and have been in business for many years at the same location. I never worry about the quality of their work. But, as the previous reviewer has stated, the attitude of their personnel needs an adjustment.
The owner of this business is well equipped to handle the concerns of customers. I’ve dealt with him on numerous occasions and have always been pleased. However, the same cannot be said for his daughter who is now the primary figure at the counter. In a word, she is brusque. At times her manner can border on rude. Although I’ve tried to give her the benefit of a doubt e.g., bad day, over-​loaded with work etc., I’ve experience this ‘dressing down’ attitude each time I bring my car in for service and, frankly, it’s wearing on me.
Recently, I brought my car in for maintenance (the reason for this review) and was scolded for asking a question about their service with a curt, «We know what we’re doing!» response. Ouch.
So, my ‘unacceptable’ rating of the Toy Shop is not due to their sloppy or unprofessional mechanical work. They do very good work. It is due, solely, on the fact that I’m made to feel like I’m doing them a favor by spending my money at their business.
Believe it or not, I will continue to take my car to the Toy Shop. Why? Because I can always rise above the rudeness of others to get what I need.
