This restaurant is horrible and should be shut down. Their A/C didn’t even work — they had their ceiling fans going & floor fans going as well and it still didn’t help. Prices where high and crazy for the taste of the food — rice/gravy was cold and had no flavor to it. Their sweet tea was over the top sweet — yuck! There was another customer in there that sent her whole plate back because the whole thing came out cold. They remade her food and apparently it came out just as bad. They didn’t even comp her meal. I have had better food then this.

This restaurant is horrible and should be shut down. Too many health code concerns to list for fear of Unilocal’s review algorithm banning me for being to hardcore. From the over the phone ordering experience to the food itself, my entire experience with Brother’s Seafood was a song of mediocrity. Let’s start with the call ahead ordering experience which was completely frustrating and didn’t inspire confidence. The waitress, named Keisha, who fielded my call was a non-articulate malcontent with poor listening skills and a an overly developed habit of murmuring«…uhmmm…» every 5 words so that her brain could spool through the task of listening, typing in and order and recanting it back to me for confirmation. The outside grounds and appearance is subpar and not well maintained. The inside resembles an antiquated work in progress. Dirty floors, dirty windows accented by the dirty white shirts of waiter and waitresses alike. There was no sense of order at the cash register as an array of personnel processed orders and fueled phone calls while either shoving each other out of the way or leaning over each other in twister board game like fashion. I returned to my Mother’s home to the delight of learning our order was wrong. Rice and gravy were missing. My dish of choice was the stuffed shrimp. I am acutely aware than the stuffed shrimp from Brother’s is purchased as a frozen food from a third party company then baked in the oven and served to customers. This is the 2nd time I’ve visited home and ordered this dish to my disappointment. This time was worse than last year(2014) when I ordered it. The stuffed shrimp tasted as though they had been sitting out too long. The shrimp inside was mushy and unappealing. The fries were supersaturated with grease and tasted horrible due to the fact the grease was old. And the price of $ 50 was completely unacceptable for the quality level of food. This review really hurts my heart to post but I must do it. I’m a native to Shreveport and I grew up during the time Freeman-Harris Café was at its best. The quality of food was fantastic. Since then shreveport has had and pat Pete Harris Café. The latest Louisiana Seafood cuisine restaurant is Brother’s Café which was created by the late Chef Orlando Chapman– of whom I am sure is rolling over in his grave about the mediocrity of the restaurant the displaying his namesake.

This review is based on two different occasions and two different orders. I’ll start with my most memorable and best food experience at Brothers First: Came into town to visit the Shreve and ordered some Brothers. We had the jumbo fried shrimp, catfish filets(fried) black eyed peas and rice. That food was amazing. So much that I licked the sauce and crumbs off my fingers– its a rarity but I definitely do it when good food is the factor. That tarter sauce. Oh. emm…gee… that tarter sauce. Makes me wanna sneak into their kitchen and steal the recipe. It is light and doesn’t weigh you down like typical tarter sauce does. I can hardly believe it is made from mayo! Now. the second time was not so good. We ordered the following: 1. Small gumbo– YUCK! It smelled like old *bleep* grease/lard and flavorless. I couldn’t even finish it. 2. Pork chops with rice and gravy– Yeah. I really hated myself for ordering this. The gravy had absolutely no flavor whatsoever… there were onions in it but I ended up doctoring up my meal so that I could eat it– that’s a damn shame 3. Side of greens– salty as *bleep*. it had a teeny weeny spice factor to it but that’s eat. BLAH. less salt and more dry spices and flavors. 4. Stuffed shrimp– GROSS! Okay. in all fairness. I do not like anything stuffed/breaded and I may receive some HEAT from other Unilocaler about this, but I cut one open and there were only two measly shrimp other than the tail in it… how they hell do you stuff shrimp with no shrimp? Let me say Gross again, and it was expensive! 5. Side of macaroni and cheese– They can SO have that! I just can’t… At least the cheese was real but again. lacked flavor. I am convinced that the last time I had their food. I was hungry as HELL! Unless of course, one should stick to the seafood. My quest/search goes on for some soul food in this Cajun city… Two stars for the fried shrimp and that tarter sauce. –A girl from the big city…

This restaurant is very quaint with some delicious food. I had the chicken fried steak, rice with gravy, string beans, corn and toast. Everything was cooked to perfection. The ambiance feels like you are sitting in your grandmothers kitchen. And please don’t drink anything other than the half and half, it’s perfect!

Good food. I have no idea what it was. I could barely understand the server. I just crossed my fingers and went for it. This was my first exposure to the south and it was awesome. Really nice group of people. They knew a lot of the others by name.

I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of delicious choices on ther menu so I decided to go with one their mixed platters– the Fonda Special. The catfish and shrimp are to die for! I did not particularly care for the stuffed shrimp though because whatever it was stuffed with just didn’t taste very good. I also got a small bowl of gumbo on the side. It has a LOT is sausage and just a little chicken and shrimp. Not my favorite gumbo I’ve ever had but it would be worth ordering again.

Stopped here on a road trip based on the good reviews. The food took 40 minutes and all we ordered was poboy sandwiches and the side was wrong and was given major attitude when we asked for the side to be fixed. The after all that the food was no good :(. They didn’t even salt the fries. very disappointed!

I have only tried the stuffed shrimp and the seafood gumbo, but both were excellent. Very close to the airport and convenient when traveling inner out of town.

Was staying at a hotel nearby and my company didn’t let me rent a car. I ate at this restaurant four days in a row. Gumbo was different. Doesn’t gumbo have to have okra?! Gumbo here was just chicken, sausage, and rice. Chef Orlando Bloom’s gumbo was addicting. I had fried catfish, fried shrimp, stuffed shrimp, shrimp poboy, hot wings, grilled trout, gumbo, dirty rice, did I say gumbo? You name it, I had it(because, again, my company didn’t let me rent a car so I ate here four days in a row) I shall return if I’m ever in Shreveport. Hopefully I’ll have a means of transportation next time so I can try something different.

Passing through Shreveport — stayed overnight at the Marriott Residence Inn — literally next door to this wonderful place. I called and ordered take out… fried shrimp, mashed potatoes and gravy, greens. Twenty minutes later, I was back in my room enjoying everything(with an adult beverage). Fried shrimp: tarter sauce had just the right kick to it, batter was as it should be — light and crisp, and the shrimp were fresh and cooked perfectly. Greens: ohhhhhh yeah. De-lish. I wanted a little pepper sauce but forgot to get some when I picked up my take out order. Mashed and gravy: the gravy was heavy on the pepper but I happen to like it that way. Service: southern charm and very helpful. I recommend a visit. Unfortunately, I was so busy eating that I failed to take any pictures…

Wonderful Cajun food. We had the bowl of gumbo, and the flavors were full and deep and rich! We also loved the stuff shrimp with their side of rice with gravy. Every bite was perfect. Never needed salt. Oh! And the lemonade is the best we’ve ever had! Kendal was an excellent server with great suggestions. We live in Florida but will return whenever we are in shreveport Louisiana.

As close to the old Pete Harris’s can get… however the atmosphere and service have some room for improvement. The stuffed shrimp was soooo good and the tartar sauce is so yummy. My sister raved about her fried chicken but said her fries were cold and just blah. They were out of several sides(mac n cheese for one)…so that was a let down. The gravy has WAY too much garlic in it but at least it’s from scratch. They have the main staple dishes down pat, now if they can spruce up the place a bit(it’s looks dingy and a little run down), and get the servers up to a faster pace, this would be a 4−5* establishment.

I went here last night and took my family with me. I told them this place gets rave reviews and the food is excellent! But our experience was so different from everyone else’s. It took 45 min for our food to come out, and it came out in piecemeal. The shrimp in our gumbo was slimy. The red beans and rice was just a flat out disappointment. Our waiter was nice, but awfully sweaty. Maybe this was just a bad night for the staff, but needless to say, I don’t think I’m going back.

Location is great however the food is just okay. We ordered the following: small gumbo, hot wings, greens, grilled trout with rice and gravy. Gumbo: too many chicken bones, no bueno! Hardly any sausage, shrimp, or crab. Not real gumbo. Hot wings: just fried chicken drummies with some hot sauce on them Grilled trout: not seasoned well and grilled shouldn’t have any breading on it. However the taste of the fish was pretty fresh. Didn’t eat rice and gravy Greens: canned! What the f*ck? Who makes and eats canned greens? Not me, very disappointing. Overall: please clean your window panes, dead flies are not appealing. Invest in water filter for better tasting water. Server was really nice though and was pretty attentive.

Great place near the airport — mostly populated by locals(which is always a great sign!). Highly recommend the stuffed shrimp and the red beans, rice and sausage(best tasting sausage ever). The corn bread they gave us was also amazing, and I’m usually not a big fan of corn bread. Overall a great dining experience. Perfect place to end your trip to Louisiana.

I am a gumbo fanatic and theirs was absolutely amazing! I had two huge crab claws in mine along with lots of Shrimp. I had one of the stuffed shrimps as well. The tartar sauce that came with it was mind blowing!

Come here for lunch and ordered a small gumbo and some stuffed shrimp, based on all the positive reviews. The gumbo was 4 stars! The shrimp was overcooked, heavily breaded and impossible to determine exactly what it was stuffed with! The rice and gravy was very good, but no enough to compensate for the awful shrimp. The sweet tea also has a strange taste, not sure why, but I assume they use a sugar substitute of some kind. Service was nonexistent. Was not asked how my food tasted, cup of tea was empty for quite a while and the waitress never come by, until I called her over for a refill and a check. At some point it would have been nice to get an extra napkin, or at least an opportunity to ask for one. Finally there was a pesky fly flying around.

I bet I’d be more impressed with Brother’s if I hadn’t Just Left my mom’s home cooking when I visited. I had a Thursday special, country fried steak and mashed potatoes. They were pretty good. The specials all come with corn & green beans. I don’t like corn normally, but theirs is nice. Appropriately seasoned. The green beans on the other hand are a no go. And I generally like green beans. These were obviously from a can. They didn’t rinse the canned taste off well enough or something? It was just bad. Just bad. Other than that, though, I’d go back. The pricing is right, I’d just avoid the green beans.
