J&J is my favorite sushi restaurant in Shreveport. The service is exceptional. Ara, the head waitress, is über-friendly, and this family establishment takes care of you! You can beat the lunch special — two big rolls, salad and soup for $ 9.99?! The sushi always tastes fresh, and they don’t charge extra for sauce! We make this a weekly outing!

Terrible place to go for dinner. This«Japanese» restaurant is run entirely by Hispanics, and all of the patrons were Latinos. The appetizer we ordered, soft shell crab, tasted like fish guts. The service was so slow and the atmosphere so awkward that me and my wife decided to leave before the sushi was delivered to our table. Whatever you do don’t go there. Nasty place.

BESTSUSHI and FRIEDRICEEVER! I have had sushi from Washington DC to Las Vegas. This place beats any place I have ever frequented. Portion size is large and I mean unreal large for the price. Flavor of every dish was outstanding. Service was top notch. Sushi was outstanding. They converted a dish into a roll for me.

I’ve been wanting to try this place, so I went by for takeout and the first thing I noticed was that these people really like their eel. Practically every sushi roll on the menu had eel — I abhor eel. So that cut down on my choices greatly. Also, they didn’t have just a simple rainbow roll. I thought every sushi place did a basic rainbow roll. Got the Texas Roll and a Spicy Tuna roll. Price was about the same as other sushi places, but the portions were good and big. The Texas roll had a good flavor, though I had to scrap off the hot sauce that they’d dolloped on top, because it was very hot. Same thing with the spicy tuna, they are heavy handed on the spice! It was hard to finish it just because it was so darn hot. I might go back to try other things on their menu, but as far as the sushi rolls go, I didn’t think it was any better than the other sushi places around town.

I have been here two times now and have been very pleased with all of the food as well as the service. They do plenty of business at least during the main meal hours yet they do an excellent job of getting the food out to the tables in a timely manner. In fact, tonight they had a very large birthday party group in the back but service flowed well. At no time did we feel like we were being rushed to order or to leave after we finished our meals. Pros: –Excellent fresh fish and seafood. –Generous portions. –Excellent prices. –Good timely service. –Friendly, family run business. –Nice décor and clean. –More cozy and intimate feel than many sushi/hibachi restaurants. Cons: –I personally consider this a pro overall but if you have small kids that haven’t already seen the chef’s hibachi show a dozen or more times or if you want to see the erupting volcano etc, you will not see any of that here. You order it at your table and it is brought out. –Also regarding the hibachi, the meat and veggies are exceptionally good. But, as for the rice, you are offered steamed or fried rice and I believe that the fried rice is scooped from a pan of premade and while the rice is of excellent quality and not old it lacks that special rich and just off the grill hibachi taste and I find the rice a bit lacking in flavor. They do however offer sauces to add to it and I am satisfied with it. –I personally find the miso soup to be a bit watered down compared to most other places. It is still good but I personally prefer a bit richer flavor. Jabez & Jabes is currently my favorite sushi/hibachi type restaurant in this area. I certainly feel it has the best overall value.

For those who follow me and my «witty» restaurant reviews are already abreast of my lack of five star ratings. but this place. Jabez and Jabes. AWESOME! This was the second time I visited this facility. I will type about some of my not so «pro’s» first. The restaurant is in a very old facility… an old house maybe? I guess this is not odd for this city but to me. it is. old places give off old smells. I do want my first impression to be that of an attic when I walk inside of a restaurant. secondly. NOALCOHOL??? Personal preference again but still. bummer. Now the pro’s. because they ROCK! I love love love the service here! It has not once been spotty and everyone has a smile on their faces. I always see the owner serving customers which is an A+ in my book– it shows dedication to the restaurant. The quality of the fish. Oh. My. GAWD! This is the only place in Shreveport where the sashimi grade fish melts like butter in your mouth. I have sampled«sashimi» at other institutions here(read previous reviews) and it does not come close to Jabez and Jabes.(see Sushi appetizer pic posted). We also had the Longview(humongous) and Spicy Salmon roll– they were also good but I am not a roll fan. I prefer raw over rolled rice and sauce(personal preference). The hibachi is absolutely divine! I am not really a fan of hibachi because it is usually dry and the meat over cooked. This was perfect! I stuffed myself from the food and we still had enough for lunch the following day. I gave five stars for this family establishment due to the passion they have for providing great food. I actually love the idea of not having to sit next to people you do not know but still have the opportunity of being served awesome hibachi. Also. as far as the location. I am not from here but I hope that whatever curse other establishments were under that were in this same spot does not harm Jabez and Jabes! Go out and support them– the food is GREAT! –A girl from the big city

I cannot even begin to tell u what a great deal this was, you just have to see for yourself how much good quality food you get for less than 10 dollars at lunch. My coworker calls ahead so it’s ready for him to pick up on his lunch break, and it always smells so good! I finally had to try it myself today and everything was made fast, fresh and with wonderful service. I’m probably heading back there again tomorrow to try some of their specialty rolls. I’m so impressed with this place.

A very solid place for sushi and hibachi. I loved it so much I came back the next day for more! I would say that this place is somewhat of a hidden gem, as many people would miss it if they don’t look a little too closely at the sign. Wish they would have more conspicuous signage advertising sushi and what not in front of their restaurant so more people would know about it. Loved their food for the portions and prices! I’ve tried all the sushi places in town and I would say this one is probably on top of the list as far as quality, flavor, and prices goes. Nothing fancy about the restaurant’s décor, but there is a very warm and welcoming feeling when you first step through the door and are greeted by the staff. Everyone is so polite and genuine. You MUST pay this place a visit if you haven’t already! I’m already contemplating paying a 3rd visit for the 3rd day in a row as I’m thinking about the food, hah!

Omg, so so good and half the price of regular Japanese. I definitely recommend the shrimp. Portions are humongous. New to town and tried every single hibachi place in Shreveport and bossier city, this one beats them all in taste. Not to mention… beats everyone in PRICE and QUALITY as well!

Not bad, not bad at all. Stopped for lunch. Service was great, genuine, friendly and attentive. Décor is not as fancy as most sushi places but honestly this just makes the place more comfortable. Clean. Ordered the two roll lunch special, which came with soup and salad as well as a TT Roll. Salad w/ginger dressing was great, miso soup was fine. Eel avocado was delicious as was shrimp tempura. Rice is nice and fluffy, good flavor. Nice nicework on avocado and finally a piece of shrimp that has been cleaned properly! TT roll wasn’t bad, but I think it was baked a tad too long and the sauce began to dry up a tad, however still ended up being tasty. Solid spot for a fix in the area. Service and flavors do not disappoint!

Outstanding food and a relaxed atmosphere. Service is great, especially if you are tired of the same old tired«show» at the other places in town. Best of luck!
