Real BBQ and More

I was encouraged to visit this place from my fellow Unilocalers! I ordered a little bit of everything! The owners are so kinda! I felt like family! The food is outstanding! The BBQ is finger licking GOOD! (Literally) I will return very soon! :)

Stopped here on a Saturday around noon. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Now on to the grub!
It was delicious!!! The chopped beef sandwich on jalapeño bread did not disappoint. Bread was soft and warm which complimented the smoky flavor of the chopped beef. Sausage was very flavorful and had the right touch of crispness and smoke. Ribs were good but not as good as they looked on Unilocal.Don’t get me wrong they were smoked well and had good flavor but they didn’t resonate what I feel are their best work. I will be back cuz it was really good. The sides were completely on point and tasted just as good as they look. Beans were sooooooo delicious and the potato salad was on point. I couldn’t finish it all because I had to drive back to Houston immediately after I finished eating. I didn’t want to fall asleep on the highway from having dined sufficiently. Loved it!

Really wanted to give this place at least 4 stars and would have given it 3 ½ stars if there was a half stars in Unilocal.The family who owns this place is nothing but nice. They constantly were checking to see if we needed anything. It is a small little quaint establishment. We ordered by the pound brisket (fatty and lean). We also ordered the 5 rib plate with beans and Mac n cheese. I had read ahead of time that the sauce would already be on the ribs and I was ok with that. The ribs get 5 stars. The were big and meaty. They were tender and the sauce was good. The beans get 5 stars. They had a very good taste. They obviously spent the time putting in the right seasonings. Now the reason I could not give 4 stars or higher. The brisket was ok. As a Texas girl I am used to eating at some of the best beef BBQ places as Franklins, La Barbeque, Snows and other top BBQ places in Texas and this just did not quite match up. First of all the best brisket does not need to be served with sauce already on top. It should be delicious on its own that remembering that sauce is a side note. You want to be able to taste that black smoky peppery bark on the outside or whatever rub you use. The meat seemed tender (lean was slightly over cooked) but seem to lack something.

Stopped in with the family for an afternoon lunch. Awesome tasting barbecue, best in town! Highly recommend finishing it off with the bread pudding!

The brisket is amazing. Ribs on point. Customer service with a smile. Will be returning until I’ve had everything on the menu.

Brisket has a great smokey flavor and very tender. 1lb included perfect Texas Toast. Potato salad was very good. Great customer service, «Papa Harvey» is extremely cordial, good food & folks! We’re from Texas, was our first visit, will be back soon!

First off, Papa is super nice. I felt welcomed and at home. The restaurant is small, quaint and very clean. I ordered the rib tips and sausage with BBQ beans and potato salad on my first visit. It was hard to narrow it down since they have such a tempting, extensive menu. Simply put, I loved this place! Smoky rib tips with the best BBQ sauce around. The sausage was smoky and dense, made from brisket. Tried the brisket on my next trip, most tender, flavorful brisket ever! Loved the beans and potato salad. Beans were an interesting color first visit… maybe some mustard in there… but yummy. Next visit they looked darker, so just a sign that they are handmade. Def try them out!

I ordered the Saint baked potato. I cannot tell you why or what it was, but I will continue to keep coming back. This is the best BBQ in the city if not anywhere.

My friend and I had lunch here last week. I had the chopped BBQ beef brisket on jalapeño cheese bun and cole slaw. Both were incredible. The chopped beef sandwich was, by far, the best I have ever had anywhere. The slaw was excellent as well. In the past I have eaten the ribs, brisket, sausage and turkey breast and have enjoyed all .In my opinion, the ribs and chopped beef brisket are the best. The BBQ sauce is awesome and I always ask for extra since they seem to ration it. I can’t think of better BBQ in this area and highly urge you to try it here. I almost forgot, you get a frozen mug with your soft drink!

I was suspicious of the 10 5-​star ratings… But we dropped in and tried the BBQ. Now I know why Real BBQ gets the high ratings! My favorite were the tasty tender ribs.
On top of the fantastic food, the employees were friendly and helpful.
We were traveling from Dallas to Baton Rouge, loved the food and will be back!

What can I say that the other reviewers haven’t? Tried the brisket and turkey with mac «n chz and potato salad, it was all delicious! Super moist, smokey, very cheesy mac, potato salad was great and not too much mayo. I’m writing this on the way out to go try more of the menu. There is a reason for all the 5 star reviews, Just GO!

I don’t always eat BBQ, but when I do I prefer Real BBQ and More! Tried this place based on Unilocal reviews. When I first drove up I was very doubtful and prepared myself to be disappointed. It doesn’t look like much from the outside… and even looks as expected on the inside. However, when you taste this BBQ, it will take you wherever you want to be.
I placed an order, sat down, and didn’t have to wait too long for it to come out. I had the Cowboy sandwich and after putting this tasty goodness into my mouth, decided to leave with a pound of brisket to take home with me. I would encourage anyone to give it a try. This place redefines the question ‘Would you recommend a friend’ as you will recommend friend and foe alike. They will soon have a line out the door.

Feeling overwhelmed by all the menu options? No worries, you will be just fine and dandy ordering the BBQ ribs (sauce on side or slathered on), jalapeño bun with brisket, and a side of beans. Once you partake in the fall-​off-​the-​bone, tender, juicy ribs, you’ll be induced into a meaty-​carnivorous euphoria and have no choice but to eat every single bite. Then, you will reach for the jalapeño bun with brisket and have a little flavor party in your mouth– the sweet and spicy bun complements the flavorful brisket so well. I have always been a fan of the sweet and savory combination. One bite will inevitably lead to another, and another, and pretty soon, you’ll be surprised how quickly you inhaled the entire sandwich! In between bites, you’ll be scarfing down the side of beans, which have been cooked oh so tenderly, with bits of brisket and green bell peppers to enhance the flavor profile. These aren’t your typical bbq beans– Mr. Harvey has brought them to a whole other foodie-​tastic level. They’re just missing a couch for people to pass out on after their bbq feasting. (And here I am drooling and already planning my next trip to Real BBQ.)
This is a great family-​oriented joint and they welcome everyone. Service was very friendly and personable. Mrs. Shirley took care of us from beginning to end. Their daughter also stopped by to chat with us as we finished our meal and we shared stories on our love affair with great Texas BBQ. If you’re in the SBC, you MUST stop by at least once to try Mr. Harvey’s stellar bbq and I promise that you will want to keep coming back for more– it’s just THAT GOOD! And then you can tell all your friends and family about it too! Go, go, go… I mean RUN RUN RUN! REAL BBQ = REALLY INCREDI-​MAZINGLY AWESOME!

What can I say, this place is the REAL DEAL. Probably the best BBQ in the city and for a far more reasonable price than «fancier joints». The owner and his family are very friendly. Just a small, no frills, gem of a place with outstanding BBQ. I recommend the brisket sandwich on jalapeño bread or the brisket tacos. Anything really!

I first became aware of Real BBQ after reading the lovely Picha’s recent five star review. I’ve come to respect her reviews because she knows what’s good for the tummy… such as ice cream, holy basil, ice cream, Thai chili peppers, and more ice cream. Then I read all the other Unilocalers’ glowing reviews and realized I had to get over there as soon as possible.
My family and I shared the ribs, chicken breast, brisket, brisket sausage, an toothless brisket sandwich on a jalapeño cheese bun, beans, potato salad, and mac & cheese. Harvey and Shirley Clay were super nice. Harvey stopped by our table and greeted us and even some of his grand kids came over and made our kids feel welcome. The place has a very laid back ‘friends and family type’ atmosphere. Also, the place is clean which is a good sign for me.
My kids primarily woofed down the sausage and chicken and my wife and I both agreed that the ribs and the toothless brisket on the jalapeño cheese bun were our favs but the sandwich was what really had our jaws dropping. The meat inside was so tender and juicy with the best flavor possible and the bun, oh the bun. That bun made it a religious experience. It was so soft and so very fresh with a delicate sweetness and well, there just aren’t adequate words to describe it. Just go try that sandwich. My wife started letting me know that I can surprise her anytime I want by bringing one by on her lunch hour at work. Everything was good. None of the meat was dry and it all had a delicious flavor. Special mention: I tend to steer away from the smoked sausage as it often makes my tummy feel queezy later from the high grease content or something but I wanted to try his special brisket sausage and I’m glad I did. It’s not loaded with grease and it has a really tasty flavor with a tiny bit of spiciness that was addictive.
Harvey, if you read this, I hope you will seriously consider adding chicken leg quarters to your menu. We enjoyed the chicken breast but everyone in this family prefers dark meat. I’m anxious to try one of your turkey legs next… along with another toothless brisket sandwich on a jalapeño cheese bun of course.
So Harvey now has another friend, me. 5 stars! This truely is THE BEST BBQ in the Shreveport/​Bossier area and the nice family that owns it is just a feel good bonus.
Now if I can just convince Picha to open up a Thai restaurant nearby featuring her special pad kra pao gai, green curry chicken with basil, spicy Thai salads, rad nah, and her breakfast omelettes that make you feel like you can take on the world, well, then I would truly be in heaven.

This IS the local place for BBQ!!! This is absolutely BBQ paradise!!! The owner and his daughter were very friendly, striking up conversation and making you feel like family. Will be going back for sure; highly recommend.

My lil tummy is literally gonna explode! (If it does, I’ll die happy anyway!) lol This is the BEST BBQ Ribs in Shreveport-​Bossier City! You don’t need to believe me, just grab some dollars and go try for yourself! ^_​~
Before I went, I read some reviews on Unilocal and Facebook, there were about 7 reviews on Unilocal and 21 on FB. All of them gave 5 Stars for this place! Then I thought it’s impossible… impossible… they must be friends of the owners!!! Then I decided to go and try for myself. And NOW… I think… I am the owner’s friend too (lol) because I am giving this place a-​5 star as well! lol :“D Incredibly delicious BBQ ribs and the owners are super friendly!
Forget about going back, I just want to move in! :“9

If you’re looking for a «hole in the wall», you’ve found it.
I’ve visited Shreveport frequently and have tried many different restaurants. This is one wins for BBQ and maybe my favorite restaurant in Shreveport.
Their ribs are the best I have ever had. I can not wait to go back and order the now and later potato.

Just passing through town and found this place. So glad we did! The owners made us feel like family as soon as we walked though the door and even sent us on our way with some great desserts for the road :)
Oh yeah, and the bbq was amazing!!!

Incredible BBQ and even better people. Like the other reviewer said, this is probably the most underrated BBQ in northern LA. Give it a try — you won’t be disappointed.
