I was in the area when I saw their Twitter and decide to try it out. First off I got into the lunch truck because of Mogo but in comparing to the two they have their differences. Here Bulgogi BBQ uses the meat you would get if you order bulgogi or dae gi bulgogi at any Korean joint and puts the meat with simple garnishes and rice which to me seemed a bit like eating everything at a Korean place in a wrap. This seems pretty good concept since Korean food isn’t something you can normally eat on the go with all the ban chan(side dishes) you want to enjoy. I would definitely come out to eat here if they’re in my area of a 5mi radius.

At 1:15p I used to avoid my classmates by rushing out of my class at San Jose State to try and make it to the Bulgogi Taco truck by 1:30p(since they switched locations at 1:30p). I would always make sure I had cash on me just so I can buy their food. Everything I tried was awesome! Burrito, Quesadilla, Tacos… all freakin’ delicious. I haven’t seen them around SJSU at all this semester, but it looks like their twitter updates are back up so catch them if you can!(It’ll be worth the efforts)

Round and round the bulgogi goes. Where it stops… nobody knows! I would randomly see this bulgogi truck on the rare days that I am on campus. Every time I would say, I’ll try it next week… and then it would disappear! I finally tracked it down and got a taco & hot dog. I hate mustard, so I’m glad I saw someone else’s hot dog and ordered mine sans mustard. I didn’t like the hot dog that much. I scraped off the bulgogi topping and just ate that. Oh yeah, it is spicy! Caught me off guard the first time I ate it. It would’ve done well with some rice. The chicken & beef tacos are a better choice… so I’m gonna stick to my usual rule: only get tacos from a truck. It’s no Palace, but the meat is pretty decent and it is a different, cheap alternative for lunch.

Really fairly priced food! Got 3 tacos for $ 5(spicy pork, chicken and beef). The spicy pork was by far the best followed by the beef. I’m usually not a fan of corn tortillas but Bulgogi BBQ’s are really soft and not coarse like other restaurants so I was downing my tacos fast. I liked the tacos since there was a lightly dressed cole slaw on top(love love LOVE) otherwise it’s like a normal taco. My friend got the bulgogi beef burrito for only $ 5. We both agreed it could be $ 6– it is really filling. The burrito had korean fried rice, beans, tomatoes, lettuce and the bulgogi bbq. I really liked the fried rice in it because it wasn’t overpowering; it actually made this non-traditional burrito better. Sodas are only a dollar each, way better than the prices on campus(SJSU). Yes, the food comes from a truck but hey, it’s good!!! Just look at Bourdain and how he eats– off the side of the streets in Vietnam. That is the way to go. Good food doesn’t always have to be on a plate and dressed beautifully. Simple things are sometimes better and Bulgogi BBQ was better than I expected :).

When I first looked, I thought Kogi had came over to Northern California, but Bulgogi BBQ is their own independent company. The logo has the same theme almost with the flames, and they are serving similar things, Korean /Mexican Fusion food. Though I really wish we have Kogi here, I think Bulgogi probably is just as good. Bulgogi is a food truck based business, like the very famous Spencer on the Go(my places still to try ; ). The company heavily base their business on some social networks like Twitter. People who follow @BulgogiBBQ on twitter can get updates on location on where their food truck and headed. I find it quite smart for Bulgogi BBQ to open shop near the University campus since that’s where a lot of the people who likes to eat out and uses social networking. First time, I ordered is the three-taco deal. It wasn’t anything too fancy. The deal came with a beef, pork, and chicken tacos. I was about to take the tacos to go elsewhere to eat it, but it looked too good and server recommended me to eat it immediately while it’s still fresh. The taco came with a side of lime and extra sauce. All the taco meats are season/marinated differently and were all good, actually, the chicken might be a tiny bit dry. The sauce that came with the taco was awesome. Second time around, I gotten the Korean Bulgogi Burrito. The burrito is quite big and definitely will fill you up. However, I’m actually like the tacos a bit better. I love spicy food and the tacos were spicy, but to my liking. It’s probably subjective for some others. However it’s very much expected Korean and Mexican food alike to have a little kick in their food. Oh man, I’m a huge fan now. I’m going to be there at a lot more often. 5 effin’ spicy stars!

Wow, what one misses out on when taking the semester off! I stopped by SJSU to drop off some papers, today, and I saw the Bulgogi BBQ truck sitting outside of Student Services. A taco truck? WooHoo! I’m not sure if they were parked there illegally, but I am glad they were there when I was! :) They have chicken, beef, pork, and tofu tacos. They also have some version of the hot-dog, and their bottled drinks are $ 1, each. I bought 3 tacos(chicken, pork, beef) for $ 5. The tacos were dressed like standard tacos, with standard hot sauce and lime. Of all three, I liked the taste of the beef best, but I liked the texture of the chicken most. The chicken and pork was a little too sweet for my taste, and countered with all the other flavors, it kind of made me sick after a while. I like the convenience of this truck and how it parks around downtown catering to mainly SJSU students. However, although I like the food, I’m not a fan of it. Still, it’s better than what the student union offers. That’s for sure.

Korean BBQ meat… good! Taco truck… good! Putting those two together… GOOOOOOD!!! I wouldn’t have dubbed this my new lunch time spot until I got a text from a friend who follows Bulgogi BBQ on Twitter stating they were in the SJSU area. I figure they would have a lot college students lining up, but there wasn’t, which was good because it was less wait time for me. Simple menu: $ 2 Tacos and $ 5 Burritos, a tough decision for hungry stomach. The first time I went I got 3 tacos(Bulgogi, Chicken, and Spicy Pork). I got the $ 5 «3 Taco Special!» The taste was orgasmic. The marinade was right on. The added spice from their salsa definitely kicked it up a notch. All three meats were good, I prefer the Bulgogi(marinated beef) though. I was jonesing for that spice merely two days later, so decided to bring some co-workers to the truck for yet another street food lunch outing. We each tried the $ 5 «Bul-Dog and Taco Special.» The Bul-Dog was basically a grilled hot dog with Bulgogi and onions on top. They could’ve used a bigger bun though, it ripped after the first bite. Service was nice! They stated that they would be at Robert’s Bookstore(10th and San Carlos) during the weekday lunch hours for the rest of November.

so my sister and i wanted to try these tacos since we’re not anywhere close to a kogi. the night we went, they were situated very close to our parents’ office downtown so we parked there and walked around the corner for them. when we go there, the only people who were there were security guards from the neighboring clubs and maybe a cop or two. we ordered three of the 3 taco combo thing and they only accounted for one. when they said our order was ready, they only handed us one bag… uhhh we wanted 3. so we had to wait longer for the other 2 orders. i decided to change up what i wanted and asked for one to be tofu. guess what? they didn’t have any. uhh. ok just give me the other stuff then. the people working there were confused and didn’t really listen very well. when i got home to eat, i didn’t really feel like the tacos tasted different from each other other than the type of meat used. the sauce on them tasted too sweet for me and i felt like it was just a savory sweet taste. it wasn’t something i normally like and i didn’t really. let’s just say i’m not in any need to go back and try it again any time soon.

When my fellow Unilocal Elitist Stephen D. posted his review, I thought, «Did he just put bulgogi and taco in the same sentence?» I got the link and started following them on Twitter, and was soon on a mission to get my hands on them. I checked my account this morning and low and behold, they were going to be out and about in SJ. Although still a bit numb from my dentist appointment early this morning, I wanted those tacos. Finding the truck was far from a wild goose chase. They were parked right in front of SJSU. Score! As I approached the truck, 3 cops on horses also headed towards it. They asked the owner to step out and talk to them. Apparently they received complaints about them being there. Oh wha?! I felt bad for her, but she showed them her permits and all was well after that. I don’t really see why anyone would complain about them, unless the hot dog vendors that are usually around campus are being threatened by them as competition. Well whoever it is, I think they should sample their fare first before thinking about saying anything negative. The guy before me ordered a burrito and noshed on it as soon as it was in his possession. Okay, now I was excited. Two bulgogi tacos and a bottled water were only $ 5. The tacos had a good balance of flavors and a good kick from the sauce. The meat to veggie ratio could’ve been a little more even though. Maybe my chances with a bulgogi burrito will be better. The next time I crave bulgogi AND tacos, I’ll be sure to check my Twitter and track them down.

Good stuff! My friend showed me Bulgogi BBQ’s Twitter page and they were going to be next to SJSU. I was hungry throughout my class and went to the Bulgogi BBQ truck after class with a couple of my friends. When we arrived at the truck, there was already a line but it didn’t take long before we got to order. I ordered the Korean Bulgogi burrito for $ 5. Their menu on the truck was very simple. All tacos were $ 2, all burritos were $ 5, drinks were $ 1 and coffee was $ 1. They also had deals like 3 tacos for $ 5 and a couple others — too bad I didn’t take a picture of all of them. The burrito was tasty and good, too. There weren’t anything in particular in the burrito that stood out. It tasted good all mixed with the sauce and lime they gave me. It would’ve been nice if they gave me more sauce though. I’m going to go hunting for this truck to try out their tacos and other burritos…

I have been dying to try this place out for weeks. Their website is terrible and doesn’t tell you where they will be unless they are already there and about to pack up and leave! Their site has no info on Menu, where their restaurant they are based out of is, or where they are or will be. Only where they have been in the past month, and random things that have nothing to do with food. I thought today I caught a break, they actually posted where they were going to be before I had left the office and gotten back home. 6−9pm in Redwood city near the Target. I get there and they are no where to be found! I circle around a 3 block radius, still no where. I drove every nook and cranny, back alley and path there, and it was not there! I drove around between 8:00 and 8:45 all over the neighborhood. No taco truck. I’m pretty furious at this. Until they get their act together and actually be where they say they will be at, I’m going to have to taint their score.

When we saw the truck across the street, one friend started shrieking. Startled, we barely recovered as she then proceeded to dash into traffic toward the truck. Now that’s dedication. The staff was very friendly. Even though my friend was rambling on and on about how she went down to LA, tweet’d them and was unsuccessful, everyone just smiled and nodded politely in response. My first Korean taco experience was okay. Not a fan of onions and cilantro. And although the bulgogi was flavorful, there wasn’t much of it, so all the garnish and whatnot overpowered the flavors. Later, I tweet’d them since I remember the LA trucks offer a larger menu. As it turned out, this one in SJ is a different company from the LA one(Kogi BBQ). Next time, I’m going for a burrito.

We finally have Korean tacos in the Bay Area! Unfortunately, these don’t come close to Kogi tacos. I tried the spicy pork and bulgogi tacos, which were $ 2 a piece. Both meats were robustly flavored, with some nice caramelization. The spicy pork came in hearty strips and the bulgogi was chopped into smaller cubes. Both came on warmed tortillas and were topped with a tomatillo-like sauce, romaine lettuce shreds, cilantro, and sesame seeds. But this ain’t no fusion, at least not in a fine-I’ll-use-Twitter-just-as-long-as-it-lets-me-find-you-my-lovely-Korean-tacos sort of way. At Kogi, the two cuisines blend seamlessly. Here, you’re basically getting a Mexican taco but with Korean meat. With Kogi, the food is visually beautiful as well as delicious. With Bulgogi BBQ, you get something that looks like it was just tossed together without a thought for presentation, except for a wedge of lime. This Korean taco truck seems to be trying to ride on Kogi’s coattails.(Logo look familiar, anyone?) But they have a long way to go to achieve Kogi-ness. If they refine their flavors and their tweeting frequency, they just might catch on. But I won’t be following them all over San Jose to find out if they make progress.

The honey and I were catching an outdoor screening of «Shaun of the Dead» at the Starlight Cinemas last night. Crammed into the little parking lot between William and South First Street, we joined hundreds of others to view this cult classic. All of the sudden during the movie, a taco truck drove by and caught my eye. As it parked at the adjacent lot, I saw that the truck had«Follow Us On Twitter» painted on the side… COULDITBE!!! The moment the movie ended, the bf and I ran across the street to the truck(which incidentally had NO line) and found that our prayers had been answered — A KOREANTACOTRUCKINSANJOSE!!! Despite the fact that we had just eaten dinner two hours before, we placed an order for a Spicy Pork Taco, Bulgogi Taco, and Korean Chicken Taco. At 2 bucks each, you just can’t beat that!
Our goodies were handed over to us and I obediently whipped out my phone to document the goods like a good Unilocaler does :) The Bulgogi and Spicy Pork were delicious!!! Extremely well seasoned and offered the little crispy charred effect flavor from the grill. As for the Chicken, it was our least favorite but not bad. The corn tortillas were super fresh, soft, and just tasty! My only disappointment was that the tacos were not served with kimchee but the red pepper paste and sesame seeds were a great accompaniment. Overall, SUPERYUMMY and I hope they continue to cruise downtown San Jose more often! And yay for running into Mikey U. at the truck too!!!

I’m a big fan of the concept of delicious Korean meats delivered to my mouth through Mexican style vessels. I’m also a fan of chasing down my food. So, I was enamored by Kogi BBQ when I got to try it a few months ago. But that’s LA and I always wished there was such a thing in the Bay Area. Well, I’m not ashamed to admit that when I saw the Bulgogi BBQ truck across the street from my apartment, I went giddy like a schoolgirl. I guess I’m saying maybe I’m biased, so take my review for what it’s worth: nothing, it’s free! So how was it? Pretty good overall. Taste is pretty much like their LA counterpart. Like Kogi, tacos are a good few bites but are overpriced at $ 2 and they don’t hold together well. Maybe if they did hard shell tacos. I had the bulgogi burrito; it was delicious and fairly priced at $ 5. I only wish they were spicier. If only I could combine it with La Vic’s orange sauce. Or even better, give us some salt pepper and sesame oil on the side. I hope they do well and that they’ll start to stay open late so I can hunt them down after a night of drinking. I also hope they experiment with new dishes. Finally, I’m still trying to figure out if they’re officially affiliated with Kogi BBQ. I don’t know how I’d feel about eating at a knockoff Korean taco truck. I mean, I’d still eat it, but I’d feel a little bad about it.
